- This abandoned Chateau is cheaper than a second hand car and @ThePethericks wants me to buy it & save it; a good idea or a terrible one?

You and Phil can buy it together and start a CZcams channel and name it , Are we Nuts
😂😂😂😂😂😂
I keep thinking that if a cooperative group of about 10 people pooled their resources and invested in something like this, oh, what fun that would be! Decide what it could be used for and go for it.
Well said.
Love this 💡 idea!!
😂 good idea! 🥜
The chateau looks straight out of the children’s book “Madeleine “. “In an old house in Paris all covered in vines, lived 12 little girls in two straight lines…”
Gorgeous!
What I was thinking too
Agreed 😊
Oh my gosh yessss!
My thoughts exactly ❤
Billy wants this place so badly.
He usually gets what he wants.
@@jjano2320 he is like a spoiled brat!
Phil, I admire what you, Billy, and other chateau owners are doing to save these beautiful old buildings, but you must use your money wisely so that you can complete the tasks you have started. Maybe someone else will save this beautiful old place.
Love it! See the vision of what it can be...if Dan can buy a building that doesn't have a roof, this should be a piece of cake...😅❤
It's in a right sorry state, but somehow it's giving off a vibe of " please show mercy and give me a little tender love and care"... I'd buy it in a heart beat if I lived in France ❤
I was looking over the situation here (Canada) and figuring what I could scrape together... I figure if I need to scrape together money then I probably couldn't afford it. Any interest or desire to own a chateau would have to be scuttled as I am about to retire on old age pension in July. I might be able to travel and visit some day but probably never be able to buy.
What price is it? ❤
Hayley, well said! I agree totally on the vibe it’s giving off!
Hopefully someone with money and passion can save this chateau!
Love how Billy looks at these old buildings. He sees them in their best past glory days! Not as abandoned ruins.❤
I think this would be an incredible project for all of the chateau owners on CZcams to go in on together. A supergroup, if you will. Set up a fund we could all donate to, and set aside 1 weekend a month/1 week every few months where the work gets done. Anyone who wants to show up to volunteer can do so. There are a lot of people who could help with clearing brush, cleaning out the trash, etc.
Count me in if it is not too far to the South. 😊
Chateau Superheros yes it would take a monumental effort
It would be a beautiful boutique hotel or bed and breakfast. It could be divided into beautiful high-end apartments. It could be a school again. It's really quite beautiful even in it's current sad state.
Maybe time shares by wealthy patrons.
You absolutely need to have a business plan going into this, as Phil mentioned.
A boutique hotel with high end restaurant would suit the building. The few acres that come with it would provide an organic kitchen garden and still leave room for a guests pleasure garden. Good wedding/celebration potential
Location is key. How easily accessed is it by major roads and railways? How long to access local places/activities of interest?
Does the outbuilding have adequate accommodation for an equestrian centre, even if limited to riding around the countryside?
No longterm plan, no survival.
There's a very good reason even chateau that can be lived in are so cheap - they cost a fortune to run and maintain. Without their old estates, new business ventures are required.
How does this compare to the other place Phil is looking at?
the problem is that's probably somewhere in the middle of nowhere. You won't get many patrons that would come and stay there. What saddens me is that you need to be Elon Musk, Bill Gates or some other wealthy billionare to afford renovating and living in that. It's even too much for someone like doctor, lawyer or businessman.
Billy do what you were thinking on your channel, buy it, roof it, and put a caretaker on it
Billy should convince the owner to allow a look at the formal rooms in the chateau. That would generate more interest in the building. Out buildings? How many acres?
and the price would be interesting
and the name of the Chateau
It would be wonderful if you and Billie started a not for profit that people could donate to them save the buildings you chose. Get a roof and windows or window coverings to keep further damage from happening, then renovate when you can or sell to someone else to renovate but they wouldn’t have to worry with the roof.
the brickwork and architecture is absolutely 🤯 🔥
CZcams maybe you could get someone to restore this place.
Why don't you buying this mr YT?
bring back the dislike button 🤯🔥
If you can find a chateau with this price, with a good structure, I would 100% try to convince my partner to go for it. Been wanting to do this for so long and actually have money saved to buy. Just haven't got anything (yet) to restore it. Would turn it into a family home, get my mom and inlaws to live with us.
I think Billy is talking himself into buying it.
I'm beginning to think so, as well.
First, Ryan. Now, Phil.
Gwen may have an inheritance, but realistically, how much could possibly be left after the chateau AND the convent? (Rhetorical question!)
NOW this chateau???😳
At least with the Basmagnee, that is what might be considered a "mixed use" business. Billy also has a clear vision of the convent as some sort of boutique hotel.
However, Billy hasn't mentioned what HE would do with this chateau, which makes me wonder if he's already set things in motion to acquire it. I just pray he hasn't spread himself (financially and physically) too thin!
@@amysbees6686 I wasn't going that deep. He and his family can certainly do as they please and I am more than sure Billy is earning very good money with his videos. Acquiring property is a sound investment in the big scheme of things. That's how the rich get richer.
@@lisaakinlabi
Quite so!
We need to see inside pictures!!! Please!!! Even tho it's so run down, She's BEAUTIFUL!!!
Michael did a video inside around a year ago.
The birdsong was amazing in this video. It’s sad that a rescue of the château isn’t happening.
So, so sad these places are going to ruin. Once we loose them, they will be gone forever...sad
Wish I had the money, I'd turn it into apartments. I love old buildings like this. Can you and Billy ask the owners to see the inside? Or if you can fly a drone through it?
It is pretty rough in one part, floors staring to collapse. 😮 And that was a year or so ago.....
It would be a real shame to turn it into apartments.
Unless you can do it yourself it would cost a fortune. I wish I had that kind of money but I would have a exorcist checking it first.
I am terrified of ghosts and spirits.
Mary P. Right same as I was thinking. And again YES apartments same as I was thinking
Wish they would fly a drone over!!!
Is there a way we could see the inside of it it would be a nice bed-and-breakfast
I hope to see someone buys it and Phil shares the restoration with all of us on CZcams. The place is so huge it would be fun to know some history of the earlier owners and the changes through time.
I don’t think it’s scary at all. It’s absolutely beautiful! Desperately wish I had the money and the means! Love you guys. Hugs from America, Utah!
It would be a hell of a lot of work but what a house!
Best walk away from that one! The grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence. 🙏❤️
Keep sharing this. Someone is bound to see it's potential and have the means to make a fabulous family home.
Billy I see huge potential in this house, it is totally worth saving, buy at the low price, clean out the vines and trees, board up and save it for two years, be because that give you time to do more work on the Convent, hire out to help with the other, room by room, if I had the money I would totally buy this, I see big potential in it,
It would need a new roof just to start with to stop the rot inside, and that would cost far too much just to let it hang around deteriorating for another couple of years. Not really much potential in future use for these big chateau's in rural area's, the upkeep is way to much.
Michael Petherick explored and filmed inside on his channel ‘ doing it ourselves’ a year ago. It bad inside but still has some beautiful features. Video called ‘the abandoned chateau’
This place is like Dr. WHO’s TARDIS! It goes on forever. You could not remotely tell how large it is by looking at the front aspect.
Lovely building. You need to go inside to check it out. I hope it gets some love.
Wonderful old chateau. Thanks for taking us along 😊
Phil if you bought this you could cycle to the convent every day, it wouldn't take you no longer than 10 minutes to see Billy and you could even borrow his tool's. 🤣
Yes it is the world we live in. I admire the two of you and the other chateau owners doing your part in saving these chateaus. It does stab you in the heart to see them crumbling into decay. All of the beautiful paneling, plasterwork, staircases, windows, on and on, that make these so special are disappearing. Each one is unique and when it’s gone it’s very, very sad. I hope someone watches this and figures out a way to save it. xx
This is heartbreaking...it needs a saviour.
Once renovated, to wake up there in a lovely suite listening to the birdsong, gauzy curtains rippling in the breeze....
Its always fascinating looking at properties like this. Unfortunately, the herculean effort required to save this property makes it completely unfeasible.
Nothing is completely unfeasible.
@@LaughingInTiny👍
I agree I'll go halves with You!
The walls look strong to me, the roof looks straight also.
The leaks can be addressed by checking all the directional channels and any damaged areas removed an wood lats reapaired and original tiles replaced.
I grew up in a 16/17 century farmhouse the roof tiles fitted where they touched we had leaks an so on the upper floor we had buckets an tin baths for the most common leaks they never ventured further, an when it snowed it would occasionally drift in through the gaps an we just swept it out so we effectively avoided reroofing for about half an hours work once or twice a week when the weather was exstreme.
But this roof looks pretty good from here.
Well done for being positive Andreabell go get that Chateau.
Unless you can view inside check for rot woodworm find the probable cause of leaks one can't say for certain but from an outside glance it looks in good order.
Cheers
@@alfaubrom I'm going to reach out to Billy. I'd like to find out more.
@Andreabell.
Yes go for it, use your intuition of course.
It looks straight an that's very important if the internal floors are intact each level an the water damage is not too detrimental it's got a particularly good look to the walls the construction is very strong.
It was mentioned one outer wall was bulging but it looks like a lot of building for what ever the low cash is?
My main point is this so often a reroofing job is very expensive it seldom looks as good as the original structure an if it's a straight as this, why can it not be repaired locally sort out any bad roof woods beams an retile useing the original ones.
As it's got dormers that helps a lot you can work from them put cross supports so you can work without scaffolding an you can rope yourself to something solid through the open windows.
I've even seen folks pin internal waterproof membrane to the underside of the last to stop the majority of water an then just remove the lower tiles an direct the leaks outside.
I've no idea where this is but raw land is on the up an up an ultimately you could run it as a stop over place for folks wanting to exsperience what it may be like to take on a place like this, a kinda bed an breakfast totally authentic beat up decrepid chateau style, you'd be fully booked.
Best of luck to you!
This chateau looks like a lovely project, multiple levels plus basement(s), but a rather expensive one (actually, a fortune), plus additional outbuildings. The purchase price would be nothing compared with renewal expenses.
This is a beautiful chateau! I wonder if you Phil, Billy and Ryan can buy it together. I see how passionate is Billy about saving these beautiful places. I admire him very much! I wish I was able to buy a chateau and live and work ( probably the rest of my life) restoring it. I can only dream.
It's a massive renovation job... But you'd have a head-start on Dan. At least it has most of the roof and some floors. Looks like it would be brilliant property when brought back to life again.
Exactly. It made me think about Dan. Dan seeing the positive potential and beauty in a burned out chateau is what draws so many of us to his channel.
Its so Beautiful.
Someone will buy it. You've given it more exposure.
Great video
Phil I love your inquisitive spirit!!! Just put the recording device in all the windows!!
I hope that lovely dog is doing better!!
Literally just finished Billy's video when this popped up xD
The 2 of you are great together.
Beautiful Chateau. Wished I lived closer. It would be especially cool being your neighbor
I paid $8000.00 for my used vehicle If I had that amount squirreled away in my night table, plus the money for taxes and building materials, plus enough to hire work men and artisans to restore it. I'd buy it and restore it and modernize heating, plumbing and electricity, I'd snaffle it up and whip it into shape and it would be rented either as a holiday home for people wanting to live in a chateau for their holiday or honeymoon. The grounds would need to be cleared and made safe, no mole holes etc. As I am living in Canada and about to retire to old age pension, I'd have a chatelain live in the chateau and tend the place. and I'd probably come over to France now and then to enjoy and assess how it's doing. It really would be a mind shock to own and live in but as I said I live in Canada and have almost finished paying for the house I live in. Of course if I sold my house and paid off the bit left oweing and got myself to France bought this beast of a house, I'd probably never want to leave.
Love these discussions, they are just as interesting as the building.
I watched twice and still didn't hear the price.... A much nicer and more beautiful building than the one you currently have, Phil
Yep what’s the price and what’s the yearly land tax ?
In the uk owning something like this keeps you poor with tax and maintenance, they have tv shows with people trying not to drown in the dept and looking for solutions
Phil's home and property is beautiful.
Thank you for sharing this beautiful building but the cost to restore is out of reach for anyone at this point but to have shared allowed us to appreciate the beauty of it and admire the prior owners that created it
Why don’t you get as many of the followers to get together and buy and restore the chateaux somehow as a group project also as investment there’s a way to get everyone together and restore it
Ohhh I love it! Can’t wait ‘till you start sharing your thoughts on how you will make this chateaux another masterpiece.
Wow, that place is huge! I really hope someone rescues it; it’s such a shame to see it in so much disrepair.
Billy saving France’s heritage, one château at a time.
So wonderful that Billy is so passionate about saving these historic gems. Thank you, Billy.
This is a fascinating looking building and it would admirable of anyone who has deep enough pockets to make it happen!
Every afternoon I wait patiently for everyone’s videos to come out. If I only lived in France….I am very curious on how much the owner is asking. If you could make it weather tight and vandal proof - it would make for a great “future” project.
Same wait, same question, same thoughts. Great minds and all that.
Yes, Great minds think alike 😊 Billy petherick and Philip couldn't you both buy it and Billy finish the convent while phill starts on it or, put new roof and windows in , secure the grounds then go back to it😊 it's lovely, maybe Philip could start the project in the grounds, pull ivy off, trees out ect. Xx hope we get to see it brought back to life. Xx
@@dawnrudd2496 Noooooooo Billy has apparently much deeper pockets than Phil and I know who would end up bankrupt! Billy needs to finish one project before he starts another.
If you could put a tin roof on instead of slate it might be a doable idea
That may be undoable unless the local municipality allows it as a temporary measure. Usually with these historic homes they have to replace with original material.
What a beautiful home. The huge tree just on the right corner would be amazing all lit up at Christmastime. 🧡
It's stunning and needs to be loved back to life.
Phil, you and Billy NEED this Chateau!!@
Ok, I really need to see the inside now!! Enough teasing lol!😆
You guys are so much fun to explore with, two kids at heart going on forty with creative instinct and the enthusiasm to engage. Great stuff!👋 😍
Some how i see 3-4 CZcams channels working on this project! With a clear vision of what how the results is going to be! Michael should be in it too if he would be interested!
You should definitely buy it, and restore it.
You are so good with saving these old homes. Go for it and save this one too.
Beautiful and terribly sad 😢 I hope there is someone out there whe sees this video and saves this beautiful place!!
Hmmm.... Buy the Chateau? Hell NO! Run away while you still have a bank account
Phil, thank you for showing this forgotten treasure. If only someone could save it. It's so sad to see the grand historical Chateau's in their current state.
I think Billy is thinking of buying this. If he did, he would never run out of projects. These buildings need saving and Billy does have a vision!! 💕💞💕
It needs loving again Billy, I'm sure you have plenty of time in the future to do for this chateau what you're doing now for the Convent!Sadly I don't even have a credit card!❤
Would love to know the exact name of the chateau to look it up with the possibility of seeing it in it`s good days. It`s heart breaking seeing something that once was so majestic gone to wreak and ruin.
Michael did a video of it inside too
I wish the owners would close that beautiful lady up to try and protect her as much as possible.
It is a big building and a bigger task to accomplish to restore this castle, buy my head spins of thinking how beautiful can this jewel of the past van look with a lot of TLC. ❤
maybe a bunch of people could buy in as in silent partners, people would do that to feel part of it. that they are saving it, whether they ever step in it or not.
So sad that this beautiful place will die. Thank you for sharing it with us though.
This is a project that you could throw a million Euro into and barely be making the building sound, let alone anywhere near livable or useable. It breaks my heart to see such lovely buildings fall into such a sad state.
I would love to see the inside of this beautiful place!
It’s beautiful, and needs to be restored before it’s too far gone. It needs a stone fountain in the middle of the circular drive…(hint, hint)! Hi, from the USA! Love your channel, and keeps an older lady entertained with every adventure😂 Thank you so much for sharing a part of your life with us.
That chateau is cool but it looks like a wing was taken down or not built on the side with the big tree. It is pretty!
A tower may have been taken down. Defensive towers often were.
This was probably not built in a single Stage, so as the owners became wealthier they added new wings. Would explain its odd shape. Often when they build all in a single go it is symmetrical, or looks near enough symmetrical.
I don’t understand Phil. This chateau is better off than the one he wants, costs less, better location. I mean I don’t get it at all.
He wants to live in the Chateau and rent outbuilding’s out as gites he doesn’t want anyone in his home unlike people like Terry and Ash.
@@cathyblackhall5237 He might have to be realistic if he’s taking on a bigger property. Those places need to be able to support themselves.
Phil please buy it and ask for volunteers to help build or demo LoL the house. They can stay an indeterminate amount of time and there's guidelines such as how much work is expected each day. Stephanie's channel seems to do this successfully. Just an idea. Martijan channel is also a roughing build. He only feeds the volunteers. The volunteers camp.
It’s a shame they all can’t be saved
Love the videos you did lately, please get a stabilizer for your camera, it will improve your videos even more!
Too bad Dan didn’t see this one as it is at least in a bit better shape than the one that he is working on which is completely open to the elements!
It's quite far from his family, though.
Stonehenge is in better shape than Monsieur Preston's ruin.
Kitsa! I didn’t think of that …! And … Secret Chateau. I laughed with all of my being at that! Too funny. I worry about Dan and the enormity of the task he has taken on. My back is aching at the end of his videos.
The cost of everything has skyrocketed here in the SF Bay Area. I got home last night from a week road trip in the Mojave Desert and thought we'd just get a couple of pizzas to make things easy. SIXTY DOLLARS, I repeat, SIXTY DOLLARS for TWO pizzas! That won't happen again. Geez...
We NEED to see inside!!! 😮
🤩 Wow! Phillip, it’s freakin HUGE! it’s lovely 🥰 has great potential as a passion project. Just sayin. Love your content!
Phil said it, "All the land has been sold off". Imagine a restored chateau in the middle of suburbia, total waste. They need land to be viable.
Billy I love this place and have done 5 home restorations in the U.S. I seriously am interested in moving to France and would like a chateau on acerage. I'm a true historian. How does one get a hold of you to talk to you or the owner to make a purchase. Any info you can provide would be most appreciated. .Thank you, Robert
You guys should definitely talk!!

@@lindasymons8361 Thank you so much. I so much appreciate you. The chateau is fantastic
It is indeed sad yo see the place falling down.
I love this place !
Billy is undaunted!!! It would be so interesting to see you tackle this place.
It's so sad to see such beautiful old buildings in such a state of disrepair. Unfortunately, like you say, it'd cost too much to save. So sad.
Buy it, get it watertight, then once people are paying to stay at the Convent, they can come work here for a working holiday!! lol
Château de Sive ,bc you'll be hemorrhaging money 💰 restoring it ! Seriously buy it , still worth it . Will be expensive but a great investment. You have to check if the area it's in will let you turn it to B&B or host events all the licenses needed. Not all areas of France let you do that.
I would have loved an aerial shot of the chateau and grounds. What would have really helped.
What a beautiful place! So, sad there is no buyer.. 😢
Would it be possible to buy it all, and only restore the other, smaller building? You could perhaps use some of the material from the chateau. After all, there isa limit to the number of chateaux which can be supported by wedding -receptions , conferences etc. Would it be possible to resurrect the smaller at the cost of the larger?
Billy feels so badly for this poor old lady of a building. Can't save them all. Shame.
Edit: BTW, blame Billy and Michael for another subscriber on the channel.
this is such a beautiful Chateau
It is absolutely stunning
Just buy it Billy...you know you want to.
The last words heard
“ Well maybe? ”
This is the second time Billy's viewed this old Chateau. His interest is more than piqued I think. I totally understand his hesitation taking on another project at the moment considering all the work involved with the Convent right now. BUT....... I think his heart is telling him to step in and save this as well. So, his mind is saying no, I've got enough going on.
But deep down.......his heart is contradicting his mind. So which will prevail? His heart, or his mind?
I'm hoping his heart wins, and his mind works a compromise. :)
