Thanks to our growing Patreon community, we are able to cover the cost of equipment rentals and Cypress Trees for our chateau garden renovation!
Patreon funding goes directly toward renovating the historical Chateau de Lesigny!
Special thanks to our dear Patrons: Jesse, Bernadette, Theo, and Morgan for your outstanding support of this Beau Chateau!
You can help support our renovation projects by joining our Patreon Community and gain access to exclusive videos, updates and more!
Join us, Daphne and Ian, as we embark on our new chateau renovation projects! This week, we made a different kind of video to answer a few questions we have received from viewers about chateau renovations. By using the combined understanding and experience of our chateau renovation, and that of several other chateau owners we know, we believe this video can give some insight for anyone who is interested in chateau renovating. If you have more questions, then please let us know in the comment section. Be sure to tune in next weekend for a special weekly upload with Francis, our family, and a little Christmas festivities in Paris!
Our "beau chateau" (The 500-year-old, Chateau De Lesigny), is located near Paris, France. Most of the structures around the chateau domain need a full restoration, so we are investing everything we have into making the property thrive! We are learning more about french culture and developing new skills along the way!
As a French/American UC Berkeley graduate in Agriculture (Daphne), and a U.S. Air Force Tactical Response Force Veteran/ Kinesiologist (Ian), we share a love for challenges and adventure. We have a long road ahead of us and we are excited to share the experience with you!
You can support our renovation projects by joining our Patreon Community, where you can also gain access to exclusive videos and behind the scene access with Daphne and Ian! All patron funding is used to renovate this historical French Chateau. Every patron is paramount to our chateau renovations and we thank you all tremendously!

Ian is the Keanu of the chateau channels, love watching y’all!
Yes, the matrix is real 😎
That’s very true😂 When I see the two of them I always think they both look like a real life princess and prince showing us their castle.
Hahah, I’ve thought the same so many times 😂❤️ Love these two!
And Daphne is Sandra Bullock!
OMG it’s TRUE 😂😂😂
The chateau was lucky to have had your grandfather and now the two of you as it’s custodians. A life long passion full of work. Thank you for sharing with all of us. ❤
Thank you! We feel as though our presence is welcome here at the chateau 🥰
Thank you for your honest and genuine assessment of the realities of buying a French Chateau. This will hopefully save anyone who is lost in just the romanticism of owning a French Chateau and instead will approach it with, yes a passionate heart, but also a clear head. Be proud of the work you are doing at this amazingly beautiful Chateau! A bientot!🎄
Thank you, Ella! We have met a few local chateau owners who have shared similar struggles and lessons learned. We sure hope this gives someone a better understanding of the chateau life 😊 Thank you for your support and have a merry Christmas! 🎄
You inherited your grandfather's eyes as well as his chateau.
I’m not a big commenter on CZcams, but I just need to say… your music and cinematography are stellar! I feel like I’m watching a professionally produced movie short every week. It’s amazing! Thank you for sharing with us all.
Hello, Maggie! Thank you very much for the wonderful comment 🥰 Ian really enjoys filming and editing our videos and is always trying to learn ways to improve. We appreciate your encouragement!
Honestly, you guys are far and away the best Château channel there is… You’re both so humble and authentic and even though I’ve just only watched two minutes and 26 seconds of this one, I know I’m going to learn a lot. Thank you thank you, thank you, and a very, very merry Christmas to you both!❤
You are too kind, Lisa! We hope this video is helpful or at least entertaining 😊 We are very excited for next weekends video since we have Francis coming to work on the chateau and our family is visiting from California!
Well done video. ❤
Agree!
You have an incredible chateau and I'm proud to be a part of its renovation. Judi
Thank you Judi! We are so thankful to share the experience with you! 🥰
We appreciate the amount of dedication and commitment you guys have on this channel. God bless you all.
Thank you, Sophia! That really means a lot to us 🥰 we wish you Merry Christmas!!
The amount of work and money to maintain these huge estates is incredible. I wish more people could afford to do this!
It is daunting for sure… if we didn’t have an established venue rental, then we couldn’t afford to maintain it for more than a year or so. We hope more abandoned chateaus get some business startups or wealthy investors to save them from rotting away!
I widh people would invest in the castles rather than shooting into space
It's a joy to watch you both investing your youthful energy in restoring your lovely chateau and garden. It will truly be your life's work and you will constantly be working on one project or another, but you will have the satisfaction of knowing that you are helping to preserve history and the beauty of the gracious past. Thank you for sharing your journey with us.
(From Cleveland, Ohio, USA)
Thank you very much! We are so glad to have people like you here to join us for the experience 😊
@@TheBeauChateau Thank you for this wonderfully informative video. It is very inspiring to see your intelligent and caring dedication to preserving and improving your beautiful home. May your Christmas be merry and your new year be filled with amazing support from all directions.
Very sage advice. People get all starry-eyed about owning a chateau and have no idea what they are taking on. You guys are doing such a great job there. I wish you continued success.
Gospel of Jesus Christ John 3:16 For God So loved the world that he gave his only Begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him should not Perish but have Everlasting Life. Jesus Christ Died for the sin of the World, If you believe in ur heart God risen Jesus from the dead and confess him with ur mouth to people you shall be saved. Jesus said I Am The only way to heaven there is no other way! Repent of urs sins (Repent means Change ur Mind turning away from sinful things and being truly sorry for it.) trust Jesus and give ur life to him He Loves you cares about you more than anyone ever will! we are saved By Grace Trough Faith!,this is sin: Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death but the gift of eternal life in our Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 3:23 For all have sined and felt short of the Glory of God. For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. Romans 1:18-21, 23 KJV Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Your videos always leave me feeling like im at the very beginning of an incredible adventure, I don't know how to explain it.
Its a joy to watch your videos and cant wait to be years into this time period for the Chateau.
That is so lively to hear! Sometimes we feel like we’ve been working on the chateau forever, but then we realize how we have barely put a dent in it 😳
We have so many new plans and as of now, we have renovations scheduled throughout next year. We can only imagine how it will look in a few years 🥰
@@TheBeauChateau I cant even imagine the courage and spirit it takes to accept this challenge, just know that even trying is inspiring. But I can see it in my mind, its like time travel, having resident artists sharing their talents, the groups of people coming to learn about the garden, using the water areas, and all you are doing right now an amazing feat of infusing this place with life, its like generations working together, its the best of humanity when we come together for something bigger :)
Excellent video and glad you did it. A big undertaking and not suitable for everyone. For those who do - WOW. Hope France and other countries introduce exemptions and support restoration works. Chateaus need to be protected.
Thank you! Isn’t it crazy how chateaus can be left to rot?! We saw an absolutely stunning chateau just abandoned because the foundation that received it won’t bother to maintain it and won’t sell it for a reasonable price. It’s actually a problem here
Yes, I've seen some breathtaking srchitectural gems, abandoned because the owners moved away, died without heirs or the heirs can't decide wether to sell or not, the gouvernment can't maintain them all.
At least the labour costs of the rennovation is fairly reasonable in France. It's ridiculously high in the uk, and in italy it's cheaper but the workers don't know what they are doing.
I think the most wonderful thing about you owning the chateau is the legacy your grandfather created that lives on in you. He choose well to leave it to an amazing couple that would continue to breathe life into his vision ❤
How much did they pay for it?
The work the two of you have done so far is very incredible and full of wonder. This is by far the most down to earth chateau channel on CZcams and the most interesting chateau of the many on CZcams.
Thank you so much! We really appreciate that, Ollie 😊
@@TheBeauChateau Your very welcome. Merry Christmas to you both and your loved ones from here in NY.
It is so easy to purchase a Chateau but the never ending upkeeping is enormous that no one can fathom.
Thanks for your candor. I recently purchased an 18th century maison de maitre in the south of France. I agree with everything you discussed. I have just obtained approval from the mairie, the local historic commission, and the monument historique for the restoration of several features on the exterior that were removed or destroyed. I'm very excited about relocating from the US and beginning a new chapter. Keep up the beautiful work you guys are doing. Cheers-
Thank you Glen! That is very exciting to hear you have taken the next step in France! We are still trying to piece together our chateau history, while simultaneously writing new chapters in its restoration. We wish you all the best in your project 😊
Congrats!
It will be an amazing experience, congratulations.
I’ve asked my Habibi to buy us a Château in France. He said it was very expensive to maintain, and they needed a lot of work, not to mention the taxes are extremely high because of the acres of land that come with a Château. He said he'd rather we travel the world, which we have already started. We are on a mission, looking for a beautiful villa in Italy with old-world charm on the Amalfi Coast, in Positano, and in the Cinque Terre. It's time for a change.
Thank you for all the information. Your channel is very inspiring.✨
Thank you for watching! We are so glad you enjoyed this one 🥰
If you are interested in a French chateau then plan a good trip throughout France in the springtime or late summer. Those are the best times for most of France. We LOVE Cinque Terre! Ian’s Italian family originated in Luca, Italy 😊
Best of luck with your chateau hunting!
The Amalfi coast is hugely expensive, very poor car parking, and nearly all homes are a cliffside hike to get to.
@@MidnightVisions money is not a problem for us. Our villa will have a garage and plenty of parking. It’s a beautiful town.
Hard work, vision and perseverance make dreams come true. Thank you for sharing your dreams with us.
Thank you! We are trying our best and always trying to do better. We appreciate your support 😊
wow
the sheer guts to take on this project by both your grandfather and you & ian is amazing daphne
i wish you well in your plans going into the future [and lots of good fortune]
i can't wait to see your family visit and going to paris for christmas next week
Tomorrow I will talk about your beautiful story with this palace on Snapi. I am from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and I am fond of what you and your comrades do in the old palaces. Every Wednesday, I will post a translated episode about the palace and its heroes.🇸🇦
That is so sweet of you! Thank you for your support 🥰
Sounds like it's vital to research what the local mayor expects and how reasonable they would be to work with. Historic preservation committees too. Best wishes to you guys in 2023.
Your efforts in renovating this magical château are very apparent in its appearance.
I absolutely adore you both and your Beau Chateau! I could listen to you for hours and still want more. You are just lovely!
Your so lucky that your Grandfather bought that place. Where would you be now if he didn’t own it ? Back here with me , in California. Lol.
I'm getting the impression that chateaus are better left for young people unless you have a lot of disposable income so you don't have to do the work yourself. Love watching what you guys do next.
You done a great job for what you have done with the Chatteau
Thank you, Phil! We have a long way to go, but we are enjoying the journey. Even if it’s stressful and tiring most of the time 😄
Thank you for this very informative video.....I really enjoy watching all that you do and can't get over just how much you have got done in such a short time. Thank you for letting us come along on your journey! Cheers!!
Thank you, Jane! It means a lot to us that you share an interest in this journey, and we are very happy to have you along for the adventure 🥰
It’s amazing what you guys have done. Keep up the good work.
Thank you 🥰 we really appreciate your support!
My high school French students and I love catching up with you two every week. Today's episode with a bit of history of the château was fabulous! We wish you the best!
Don't forget to take time for yourselves! We all love these videos, but your health & well being is most important. (I'm referring to possible stress from keeping up with social media!) Bon courage de Wisconsin!
Thank you so much!
We will be going back and forth to Paris this week for Christmas markets, so we will keep you and your students in mind to show more French culture in the next video 😊 joyeux Noel 🎄
You two are great. People with a plan and you roll with the necessary changes. I hope your Christmas and New Years are warm and memorable. Love from Ohio.
Thank you so much! We will be back with a regular type of upload just in time for Christmas! Have a wonderful holiday season 🥰
My boyfriend and I talk about buying and renovating a small chateau, and even though we know fully the aches and pains (he’s a builder I’m a designer) we still think it would be a wonderful journey. You do have to be a bit mental, don’t you? 😂❤
* * * Love you guys! Discovered your channel as I was watching chateaux in France.
You both are so cute, warm and both have such a calm and straightforward voice.
You talk from the heart and share your own experience, not what you hear from others! I wish you all THE BEST!
Buying and renovating a chateau in France is a BIG thing...definitely not for everybody! * * *
I just realize the Musée Nissim-de-Camondo have the same staircase as your chateau, hopefully i gives you some inspiration for the interior design😁❤️❤️ and btw really love what you guys are doing, keep on the great work!!!!!
Here I was, getting comfortable with a glass of wine when you uploaded.
Currrently looking at flights to France.
Votre château est le plus beau, le plus touchant et celui que j'espère le plus visiter dans un avenir prochain.
I've only subbled upon your channel last month, but my god, am I rooting for your success.
Your Chateau and grounds are beautiful.
Thank you, Catherine!
Just found you on CZcams, I watch a lot of chateau videos, got to say you are one of the best, the photography and content are brilliant, binge watching now 😂😀
Thank you! We really appreciate that 🥰
You two seem like the real deal and have given terrific advice for future chateau buyers!
No one has addressed such issues! I think becoming a realtor might be a good idea!
A change, but charming, as aways. So nice to see your subscriber numbers continue to grow.
Thank you! Don’t worry, we will have a regular type of upload next weekend. We did this because we have had a lot of questions and have yet to see some of them answered like this on CZcams. We hope you found it interesting 😊
@@TheBeauChateau Not a worry! It's impressive that you can maintain quality and interest with a different type of presentation. Congrats to you both on that.
Thank you for talking numbers for renovation costs🙏🏻😊
Thank you for an honest look into reality. I guess my dreams will remain dreams.
Wait a minute, that’s Keanu Reeves😮from Speed and Constantine OMG I had no idea he bought a chateau❤love you Keanu and I’m so excited for Constantine 2😊btw you look incredible❤
I really hope your you tube channel continues to grow so you will have the funding for all your renovations like the windows. Thank you for the question & answer segment so we can have more information about living in a Chateau. God Bless Kathy 🇺🇸
Great reporting..and information. You both are so down to earth and sensible. Love your videos.
Thank you very much! We always get shy when having to speak directly to camera, so it was a tough one to make 😆 Next week will surely be like our normal uploads 😉
@@TheBeauChateau …well I’d never know. You both just seem very happy in love and sensible.
I live in Dordogne and there are over a thousand chateaux in my region alone. I am told that only about 40 are still lived in by the original families. I chatted with a couple in Australia who are going to sell up and come buy a chateaux in France.
Yes, we have seen a few beautiful chateaus that are currently left to degrade. It is very unfortunate ☹️
Honestly, whatever content is put out by you guys I'm gonna be watching. The presentation of your videos are sooo calming for me, I totally understand what you're saying. Just simply enjoying it. AND, my dad was also in the USAF, so I'm an AF brat born and raised in Spain😊. Anyway, HAPPY Christmas to you and your family!
i'm buying a historical villa in Spain and this video was a nice reminder of what to expect. Though it's not a chateau it is still a very old property with lots of history and things for me to consider. Thank you both
Is it weird that I’m not looking for a chateau but I still watched and listened to the video intently. I wish you both a Merry Christmas!🎄Cheers, Doc
Excellent vlog! So well done and informative. In my next life, I will buy a château! Bien sûr👍🏻
Thank you, Amy! We hope you can find a chateau for yourself if it’s what you truly want. They come in many sizes and price tags, but whether your fixing a chateau, or mending a piece of furniture, having projects to restore no matter where you live, is still rewarding. We are happy to share our chateau experience with you 🥰
Very nice job guys. Thanks
Your vlog is soooo well done. I watched it twice today. Than you so much! I wish I had the resources and/support to jump into such a project. I’ve lived in a number of old homes and have enjoyed reviving them very much. ❤
All I see is a very beautiful m, humble couple that treats each other with love and respect and takes care of their responsibilities
What more you could ask
May you guys earn many blessings from this beautiful inheritance ♥️
A very informative video - thanks. (You forgot to mention working 72-hour work-weeks restoring the chateau !)
I totally adore you both. Your videos are totally awesome. Thanks so very much. I would buy a Chateau except I have waited too late in life. At 62, my age has brought crippling arthritis so I am unable to endure the physical stress. of something like remodeling and recreating a beautiful showplace in France. So I will live will y’all and others online as if I live there. Peace and joy. Wade in Alabama. USA
Soon very interesting. Merry Christmas to such a hard working couple.
Thank you, Nancy! Merry Christmas 🎄
I will never consider to buy a french chateau but i really like the architecture and to learn more about the building techniques used.
Wonderful presentation. Ah! The voices!Wish all marketers could be this calm.
Wishing you continued success for 2023...Merry Christmas dear Daphné and Ian..HUGS.
This is my dream, even though I know it will be stressful and that I'll probably always be in debt xD
I'm french and I appreciate the videos you are sharing us with a lot of pertinent comments.
Thank you for your commitment to preserve a such beautiful château. You must already know that you may get some public subventions for renovation / isolation or the help of the "Monuments historiques" (this may be a little complicated).
No one on CZcams tells the intricate details of remodeling costs of these vintage citadels like you guys. I wouldn't even begin to try it unless I had a team of 10 people.
You talked about borrowing for renovations, but it's worth also mentioning that it is very difficult to get a mortgage to buy a chateaux. Lenders simply won't take the risk because of the cost of upkeep. It's one of the reasons why the price of a chateaux is often so low, they are seen as a liability rather than an asset.
Yes, thank you for mentioning that. We mention it in this video as well during the “what does it cost?” Section 😉
Great video with good information! Thank you!🤩
We are so happy that you like it! See you next week 🥰
Merry Christmas lovely people!🎄🦌⛄🎅🧑🎄🤶🎄
Merry Christmas! 💕🎄
I love your chateau. Its absolutely gorgeous. And really enjoy watching y'all.
Wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas. I enjoy all your videos
So kind to share the experiences!
Wow I see this as a very successful home and luxury getaway place with the finest of wines cheeses arts and crafts and art designs from the area be blessed and a very blessed merry Christmas to you from our home and Vancouver British Columbia Canada
Wonderful food for thought for others, me I am here for the videos and to cheer others on. Special holiday times for you and your families ❤
I see many newbies not speak the language and it is really important to have a trustworthy go-between as French admin can be complicated to navigate, lots of paperwork.
Yes, the French business jargon is not simple for foreigners to understand. We had a tutor come to help teach that aspect, but it is still difficult at times
I was just telling my brother on Saturday about all the chateau renovations going in France and some of the issues that go with it. This was helpful.
A very Merry Christmas to you from Mary in Southern California 💗🎄🤗
I love watching you both. Your Château is beautiful and so are you two. Thank you for sharing your lives with us.
A Chateau is not just a villa, it's a home, a business, a venue and so much more...yes, that fungus will wreck you, slowly but surely, all things in good time. Wonderful information and an excellent resourceful video.
You guys are doing fabulous work. I'm so enjoying the ride.
Have you thought of a wood heating system like the pethericks have, they have a chateau, and the wood usage is from there own woodland, only initial outlay.
And your manpower cutting your sustainable forst down. You will need to also replant quick growing trees that you can use in 15 years..
Good luck. 👍
Absolutely lovely….❤
Great vlog! It so true. The costs are what you think and at least treble them. So rewarding but lots of work and anxiety. I wanted to buy in the late 90’s but decided to try a big Move to Australia. It’s been great, but still have to this day a love of doing why you and many I follow have done.
Saying that! It’s been great watching all those I follow over the last 4-5 years to get an understanding of the reality is. I still want one. ❤️
Wonderful episode, again! Can't wait for the next one......
We would love to hear more about your grandfather? He sounds like such an interesting person... can you tell us more about his story and his life? ❤️🙏
I love your relaxed and genuine vibe and love watching your videos. Although I may never own a Chateau at my age (I've owned 2 beautiful homes in France in my 30s/40s) I still found this extremely interesting! I'm renovating a small "casetta" in Tuscany instead ...it's suits my age and budget better! Bisous et bonne chance! 🥰🤗💐
I just realized that i WILL need a château regarding the number of rooms I want at home, thanks for the vid🙏
I love your videos so much!!
Xoxo from Bend , Oregon USA
Thank you for the relaxing time exploring with you! It’s amazing
Thank you! We are happy to have you join us for the ride 😊

Thanks you so much 🥰
So we’ll done, thank you. Pls enjoy the holidays! Happy Christmas
Owning & maintaining a chateau seems very magical yet scary & expensive. Wishing you two the best with your family chateau for the rest of your lives.
A great video! Love the balance between down to earth warning of what the reality is and the encourangement not to give up a dream! Don't forget tp enjoy even the small beautifulthings that happen n your lives!
You're the best. Keep it going!
Thank you both for sharing with us this intricate process of chateau ownership.
Im inspired by how consistent you all are in the building of your chateau and property.
Much success to what you all are doing and to your future endeavors.

Thank you for sharing the ups, and downs, of your chateau life! This was a really good look into what it takes to own and love a chateau, and while it is something out of reach for most of us, we are happy to live vicariously through you both! Love your channel! ...oh, and pets for your pup!
