very good sir. im also trying to stay in and make the military a career out of it, but its very hard for me right now. ive been in for over 3 years and im already tired and unmotivated, but i know theres other places that the military has to offer and i shouldnt hate it and get out. i hope your son makes it for 20 years and more if he wants too.
I did and I definitely would not join now. My sons are within a few years of being 18 and I will do everything in my power to not let them join ether.
We will stand and protect our property since we live in a border state and are being over run.

When I was in high school I wanted to join the military so bad. I tested in the top 99% on the ASVAB test. The air force really wanted me but I couldn't pass the physical. I tried 3 times with 3 different branches but nobody would take me. He is correct that it feels like something is missing when you get older.
Thats exactly why I enlisted at 21 in the navy. Did 5 years and 5 deployments. Had the best and worst days of my life during my time.

@Sparks00psn actually I miss spoke. I didn't score a 99. My asvab score was 92. The recruiter said that I scored higher then 99% of the test takers that wanted to go into my field in the military. I wanted to be a pilot which he said most do get high scores but the average pilot had a score of 78%. They wanted me to go to basic training between my junior and senior year in high school and then after graduation they wanted me to go to officer school. They had 20 years of my life planned out, or how they thought it would go.
Today's military values dei instead of actual value.
I wouldn't join now a days. There's no challenge because everyone gets a trophy anyway. It's also extra dangerous because your partner may have gotten in for DEI reasons. And lastly, you'd probably end up fighting for another country.
It's as if nobody's ever read The art of war.

Currently in DEP, shipping out this year. Exactly what carr says though, its about testing yourself. It is definitely a personal decision, for example a couple of reasons i want to join is because i want to serve while im still young in my 20s, and i feel i can still make a difference despite the leadership. I will always hold my own values no matter how it goes. As long as there are enough people in the military that share the values that built this country, i think it will be okay.
Hence the problem…enough true patriots who give a sh!t more about their country than their sexuality (or whatever else other than NOT themselves). A quick scan through this comment section is a small indicator that we’re f¥€Ked, noting the majority consensus on the current state of our forces, especially leadership (or lack of).
Interesting note on war dept vs DOD. Executive branch has made it a department it was never intended nor purposed for giving appointees dangerous authority

If my parents had a tv with a remote, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have been born. Also, I had to move the rabbit ears & adjust the foil on the tips of the antennas when the signal was weak. Sometimes I even had to get technical & give it a good smack on the side when the vertical hold slipped. I remember the 25 inch tv (it was color) we had as a kid any time I have any complaints about any of our over 50 inch (which is small these days) 4k or better flat tvs with surround sound streaming over 100 channels & access to apps with thousands of movies.

My Son is 15 yo Son is interested in military service. I’m worried about the leadership and their missions and motives. He does still need that challenge and there is something in him to serve a higher calling/purpose. We signed him up for leadership summer camp ROTC just so he can gather a feel for this and see if it’s something he really wants to do.
He does know that it's not like Call of Duty, right? You don't get respawns.

@@BongicusMaximus he does understand the reality of this type of service and he does not play that game. He hasn’t played video games much lately. With that said, joining for the right reasons is important. He may be chasing honor and esteem which feel important at his age. We talked realistically about ego.
@@shaunmcgough7227 my Husband (his Dad) is a Mason. We know how hard he works for little pay and the ups/downs of trades. I work a Corp job to pay the bills that need stable incoming pay. I would support this decision too if he wanted to do that and it’s honorable work that won’t be automated anytime soon. . It’s a tough world. Sending him to college feels like a propaganda win, sending him to the military in this setting makes us very uncomfortable and trades is an option but may not feel like much to support a family.

It isn't China exactly I worry about but China's alliance with Russia against the US.
The thing is, the older generation already saw this with Vietnam and didn't want to enlist their children. What happened? 9/11. They gave them a reason to fight. They lied again but made sure it was on their doorstep. They have to do something similar or worse to get them to go this time... I dread that day and I know it's coming.

STEVEN needs to ONE day speak to female Soldiers as well. I have 9 duty stations under my belt. 12 field exercises in the desert and Forests and 4 Deployments. He seems to favor men. Ironically I’ve served in Tank Brigades AND SPECIAL OPS. Man I wish he would interview me! Also my Spine tells Different story than the Stereotypes.
He doesn’t believe women should serve in general on the front lines , not sure his opinion about the thousands of other jobs . As a retired combat medic it makes me a bit angry but he has good points , women are different but I don’t think that means they can’t do jobs it’s just harder and they have to work harder . Also they are needed , men aren’t signing up that’s obvious since men who want to be women seem to be a thing more and more .. I blame food ..

I honestly blamed China for a lot of things. Now due to recent events I believe it’s something bigger. Both the eu and North America are facing the same problems at the same time. It seems China would need leverage over all of Europe and the west. Not likely.
