that is how you teach children how to read-

While Finnish language is one of the hardest languages to learn the benefit is if you learn to read you can read a book for kid without knowing what you are reading. In English there are many words you just need to know how they are pronounced.
Car and Cat is a good example how the letter A in Car is sounded as Ä in Cät. When you say them out loud you realise the A is different in them.

plot twist: they told him how to pronounce the words before they recorded
I taught children to read for 42 years. Phonics is king, but sight words are queen. You need both. You cannot sound out every word.
My English teacher always used "enough" as an example how the English language has so many words, where letters and sounds have nothing to do with each other.
Sounding words out comes first. Too many people are misdiagnosed with dyslexia because they never actually learned how to read the letters and instead they try to scan the shape of the words.

Another reason he can read the words is because someone is working with him, one on one. Many parents don’t and just make the teachers at school do all the teaching. We have to be there for our kids, make life fun but also a learning experience.
It’s normal. Sometimes parents are lazy, I learn to read English at the age of 6 and during that, I can learn English better. Also, I don’t need my parents to learn with me since they’re SO lazy..I can do it with myself.
Thats true... honestly parents can help a lot with stuff like that, and it can be easier then they realize. I was learning to read and wright (and surpringly good at) at the age of 2, as well as speaking with proper grammar (mainly because improper grammar annoyed/annoys my mom) at the age of 1. I was homeschooling before I was even old enough to go to school. When I finally did go to school I was supposed to skip a grade, but instead the teachers just had to give me harder work and more of it then everyone else. All of that came from the ADHD as well as dyslexic kid who would but empty boxes on her head and run into walls continously.
Not true. My parents never helped me out with reading. I give full credit to my teachers for my reading abilities.

@@Ameliax_Frier The problem is when parents don't do parenting and most of the time they just give their children a phone to keep them distracted. This is not healthy, you need to give your son more stimulation, socialize with other kids, give them the attention they need, it's frightening how a 2 or 3 year old kid can stay hours in front of a screen without doing nothing, all the days.
Of course technology is a wonderful tool to learn and study, as you say, but it shouldn't be a kid raiser.
The thing for site words is that it only really works as back-interpolation, it also limits reading speed a bit. I know from experience.
English is a confusing language, but there is a good reason we learn how to read by giving it our best guess at pronunciation. Not every word can be a "sight" word, and giving kids the tools to handle that is key.

Phonics won't get you passed grade school without looking like an idiot. Sound out the following words: epitome, ally, wounded, culinary, armoire, hyperbole, Yosemite, vision, blood, island, scheme, honest, iron. If you pronounced them correctly then you sight read more than you know. Readers who are taught phonics alone and no sight reading often suffer from poor comprehension and it can take years for them to catch up with peers who are taught both. Eventually we graduate to sight reading or we get left in the dust.
I had to read chapter books and write 20 sentences or 7-13 paragraphs bc of my school

Nig-s what u talking about? I talked from the age of 3 all by myself
My 6 year old son reads amazingly well because of both sight reading and sounding words out. They can work together, they don't have to be enemies. He sight reads words he knows, but when he gets to one he doesn't know he works on sounding out the letters
True... there are a lot of rules and exceptions related to how an alphabet sounds in different words.. like chemistry, character, chaos.. but children, cheetah, chivalry,.. where's the logical explanation to sound of ch here...
Sara you are right! Phonemic awareness plus sight words is the correct way to teach reading. The reason is due to the morphological make up of some words the pronunciation is irregular.
yeah , i agree with that.. in reading sounding words out and memorizing basing sight words works effectively in teaching reading.
That's how we teach it here too, start with letter-sound connections, and then start memorizing sight words. It's really important, especially for reading efficiency and for kids with reading difficulties like dyslexia.
Ok
Where I am from, our language has many stum endings. Which means that a word has a different sound then how its spelled. This is why Danish is extremely tough to master.
Like the word “heart” is in danish “hjerte” - but you cant hear the “h” so it sounds like “jerte” and depending on dialekt it can sound like “jærtæ”.
Yes, sounding it out makes a difference.
As a linguist I can say one thing:
Phonics helps decode language, meaning it helps with spelling, which helps with reading. But in order to learn to read, an able reader must read regularly to the person
Yeah someone can’t learn to read with tout reading on a regular basis
Agree..I read to my babies..constantly..took toddlers to library..bought lots books. My first born had difficulty with reading. It was frustrating for us because books were a huge part of our life.We wanted him to love it too.We were military and moved alot..he never grew to love reading..He worked harder than most to get through college..I'm sure there was a reading disability not found. He tested quite high in other skills.Hes a very successful man..but the struggle was real.Be patient with little ones..not all kids learn the same or on same schedule.
Yes, he is 100% just recognizing the shape of the words, because that is how reading works with the human brain. You see text, then draw it back to prior knowledge.
Sounding out words doesn’t automatically equal understanding. Eventually the sound and look of a word will be connected to understanding and definitions. It’s the effort that counts, and if they spent the same time using a different method I’m sure the results would be similar. Seems like he’s feeding a script to me. 🤷🏼♂️
i want the kid to read this out.
I'm not a native speaker. Phonic just helps a bit because tbh English spelling is strange. It's inconsistent. In my native language, A is always gonna sound 'aaaaa' no matter where you put it or what alphabet you pair it with. Same with other alphabet. It's consistent. That's probably the reason there's no such competition as spelling bee in my language because it will be too easy. I learned reading the Arabic & it's pretty much the same too.
Back when I was a kid I gotta listen a lot from TV shows and songs lyrics to get used to the English spelling. One thing I agree, u gotta start training young. Kids absorb like a sponge. Whenever I study another language right now I kinda struggle to master the reading system.
You can see how proud he was ..
@jamol 3
@jamol 1. finally someone spoke early
Except you HAVE to memorize sight words in english, SIGHT itself is a word that is not pronounced in its own letter pronunciation. This is why the whole sight words versus phonetics learning is always a constant generational cycle. People say, hey, you need to learn how to read phonics so that we can actually read our own language.
And then, of course, people would find that that's a challenging concept. And so they swing back to the idea of, well, let's just memorize words on sight, where the words function like pictograms rather than actual language.
It might seem good because you learn all these words really fast, but then if you can't sound out your own language, you can't learn new words.
I have adhd, and the reason my reading comprehension as a kid was better than everyone else’s in my class, is because I would look at hardy boys books, and they had the coolest covers to me, and I was obsessed with wanting to read them. I would pick one up, and just stare at the words for hours trying to understand one page in kindergarten. Probably one of my first true hyper focuses.
Adhd is a scheme by the pharmaceutical industry to make people like you believe that normal behavior is a disability and thus spend a fortune trying to fix a problem that doesn't exist.

You know there'll always be at least one or two class CLOWNS.
Sounding out doesn’t always work. It works on basic words, but English is a collection of different words from different languages with different rules.
True
It's a good base to start on though
Yeah, English is the most broken non structured language out there. For example
Your and you're sound exactly the same but don't mean the same at all.
@@zyourzgrandzmaz kinda the same for there and they’re. “Over *there*” is not related to “*they’re*”
My parents like to tell the story of when I tried to sound out “What”
Good job mate!
I could read when I was 2, and by 5 my kindergarten teachers left me in charge of reading to the whole class while they took their break. In my experience, I was one of maybe 15-20% kids my age, not a unicorn, and there were fewer kids who struggled with reading than those who could read out loud relatively confidently. Maybe it’s because my native language is less messed up in terms of spelling and pronunciation than English, and also my country inherited the Soviet education system.
my mom homeschooled me and my sisters instead of sending us to kindergarten, and we were all reading full sentences by like 3 or 4 lol. If you are a parent, teach your kids the sounds of letters separately, it really helps.
i went to kindergarten but they didnt teach anything except of how to play with others ,how to draw and all these basic things. I learned how to read and the alphabeth with my parents so basically in 1st grade i was all day bored because they were teaching us things i alr knew

Idk wanna sound like I'm bragging so I'm embarrassed to say this but I was reading full sentences by 2 and a half. I'm sorry

That's what you call good parenting ❤
No, that's what you call bragging
@@yourtoaster123 FR My guy
No, kids at that age should be able to read without those stupid cards
Nope. He’s showing off his kid to the internet for views. That’s called bad parenting
My daughter is 3 and she sounds out letters when we reads & when she says certain words. She’s always asking what is that? Why questions? On top of that she’s always singing, talking or reading all day. Maybe it’s typical for a 3 year old, but I’m pretty impressed & a proud mama.
I know a friends kid who started out at 2. Man that kid really went places with math and language by 5 already, played an instrument. Wonder how it goes nowadays.
That’s what my mom did with me. Knowing how to sound is most definitely the key to learning how to read, because it immediately trains your brain to think quicker
bro reads better than most middle schoolers
Fr💀
Dawg, what middle schools are you going to??? 😭
@@ding-dong_bing-bong local ones 🗿talking to my brother when he was jn middle school..... bro had like 4 strokes, and 2 voice cracks
then that means most middle schoolers are not getting an education worth their time
the fact that people are agreeing is concerning 💀
Sight words are generally words that can't be sounded out by the general rules of phonics.
I think it is very based on sounding words out but then a bit of sight reading when you start reading bigger books if that makes sense
He’s a smart kid he’s going places I didn’t talk until I was like 4 years old the fact he’s already reading sentences is amazing
I started talking at 6 months old no joke 😂

You started talking at 4? Of course he is impressive in your standards.
Bruh lmao I was reading abc mysteries and magic treehouse in kindergarten
Dude the smile that gave me. I’m glad parents out here really teaching correctly.
I thought he’s gonna troll him 😭
Yes! My son's 1st grade teacher was teaching "whole word" reading. He wasn't learning and very frustrated. I asked about teaching phonics and was told he was too young. So I said I would teach him and his teacher said not to because it would "confuse him." I did anyway and in no time he was reading. Teacher was not pleased.
Same. I taught my child to read right away. Every day since he was 6 months old I would sound out the alphabet while looking at the letters twice a day. He was sounding out words at 2 and now he's 4 and can read 12 letter words without a problem. Seriously everyone should do this. They should all know how to read before they even go to school.
That'd be memorizing, because those are only 12 words.
@@paulo0651 the person is saying that their child can read words that have even 12 letters, not 12 words in total!
@@girlinpurple_ Thanks
Lol no you didnt but its a cute story.
