Mazzy, what I love about your review, that makes it stand out from a bunch of others that I’ve watched, is that you dig a little deeper into the history, your personal original collection and how it compares to the boxset. You were there when the original UK box came out and the US gatefold. I love this type of deep dive as it all ties in. Your bootlegs are outstanding! Very informative as always! Thank you for this post!

I've spent several thousands on Get Back boots over the years. I picked the best recordings and burned the best tracks in chronological order over 10 cds. It's quite a listen.
There is still a lot of great stuff that remains unreleased. Instead o anniversary remixes of the albums, I wish they would take a page from Dylan's Bootleg series and put out box's covering a specific periods of time and throw all the outtakes on them. They could offer pared down versions for those who aren't as obsessive.

Good to see the idea behind and how the end product, a film and record set departed talked about without the finger pointing some do. Like so many projects in all walks of life there comes a point where not only has what was intend had been realized but the individuals themselves had changed so inevitably they come to an end.
I do have that 1979 Capitol edition put out after Capitol aquired United Artists and being officially out of print cut by Wally Traugott which sounds pretyy good in isolation but comparing to a contempary British edition that one has greater transparency perhaps for using the original tapes.

Clearly, they were composing a lot in those sessions, they were through a very innovative inspiring period. There's a 4th unofficial option: Albums That Never Were has a version of Get Back that is largely Naked with chatter added back in, but side 1 is from the rooftop concert (except for "I Me Mine"). This allows the single versions of "Get Back" and "Don't Let Me Down" to be quite different. I think "Across the Universe" is a different version from Naked as well. This is the default way I listen to it. Better takes than Glyn Johns used, none of Spector's overbearing production, and Let It Be can be treated as a separate album, since it's presented so differently.

Thanks - another great video. Love the way you add your own personal experience and history into the discussion of the releases.
I too was surprised that the Giles Martin version is so close to the original production - but I like the clearer sound (maybe my original is not that good/early). And even if I'm NOT a great fan of all the violins etc. that Spector added, I understand why The Beatles turned down the Glyn John mix - it's not tha great either.
But I actually love the Naked-version of Let It Be.
I think McCartney did a lot of things right with this when you think of the original idea behind L.I.B./G.B.:
    - Omitting all the violins etc. which are totally on the moon when the idea is about getting back to being a rock-band making live performances
    - Including Don't Let Me Down (great Lennon tune - thanks), omitting Dig It (useless) and keeping Across The Universe (even if it was recorded much earlier - it's at great tune).
    - Starting with Get Back (because that was what the idea was all about) and ending with Let It Be.
Keep up the good "work" :)

Mazzy, Hi. Enjoyed your take on this new release.. very helpful and appreciated the last bit about the benefit of watching the documentary vs. buying the 5 LP set. I wish to provide the following feedback, one that I gave to Michael (45 RPM Audiophile) about this pressing and feeling we may all have about "not using the analogue tapes".. Based on an interview I heard with Giles Martin, he stated that for this Let It Be he was listening to the 8 track tapes, which means he started with the analogue tapes and did an A2D. What he chose to do afterwards clearly is a choice everyone at Abbey Road seems to make which is to create something in the digital realm they believe is better than "analogue". Also getting to a 5.1 channel version which Giles seems to like(again based on the interview) requires a digital conversion which may add to their justification to go digital. I think by placing our collective voice around what is really here , which is a choice of mastering vs. the tapes being in a secret vault, may be better heard by folks at Abbey Road or for that matter labels who choose to use their services.

I love finally having an officially released "Get Back" LP. Some of the boots are pretty good sounding, but none come close to this one. The remix is good, maybe not as much of a game-changer as some of the others, but the 5.1 mix will knock your socks off! The surround mix is the perfect way to hear the Spector touches; they add diension to the tracks without obscuring the band. Listen at a friend's house with a good surround system if you don't have one. You won't regret it!

One of the true missing pieces of "Beatles-lore" is I don't believe the complete portfolio of photographs taken by Angus McBean of The Beatles in 1963 and 1969 have ever been made available to the public. There are obviously the photographs that they used for "Please Please Me", "Get Back" and the "Red/Blue" albums but aside from a few alternate shots that have show up here and there those particular photo sessions remain elusive. I believe there was one session done in 1963 that resulted in the "Please Please Me" album cover and then two separate sessions in 1969 for "Get Back". The first featured all four Beatles wearing dark suits and the second done around a week later featured John Lennon and George Harrison in their light suits (which I believe were their stage suits from 1966). Anyway I was hoping that these photographs would turn up as part of the "Get Back" book that recently came out, but no dice. I'm wondering if it's an issue with Angus McBean's estate or just the fact that he is no longer here and his negatives for the shoot have gone walkabout.

Great review as usual Mazi! I own many original copies of „Let It Be“, including the original UK box and the other UK LP that came immediately after the box, and as you have mentioned, the first UK pressings sound best to my ears, followed by the German first pressing, which is a very close second. This Giles Martin mix is good, and it didn‘t change the original mix too much, save for the added base and dialed back Spectre effects. It sounds ok, but lacks the vitality, crispness and immediacy of the original UK pressing, and being sourced from digital, the sound is a bit sterile and uninspired. I love all the additional stuff in the box though! As for the original US pressing (which I also own).... Let‘s say, I only have it for historical reasons 😉. Interestingly, I am having a „Let ItBe“ listening session tomorrow with a friend who happens to own a second generation production master tape of „Let It Be“! We will be comparing it to different vinyl pressings to see which one comes closer to the 2 track 15ips tape 🤓

I have not. I've been thinking of eventually making one on all of the Beatles box sets I own. I think that is how I would include the Japanese set. But I will wait awhile. Since I'm not just a Beatles channel, I like to space them out...

Mazzy, I liked your Get Back art work. I would do something similar back then. When an LP didn't have all the info about the songs on the cover I would write it all down on the inner sleeve. Writing credit, time etc.

Greetings Mazzy,✌Great video 👍 Loved the way you gave us a breakdown on the history of Get Back/Let it Be album(s) a couple of weeks ago I got my Deluxe box set and I Love the design and the presentation of this set but compared to the past Beatle box sets I find this collection underwhelming.-My only issue with this New release of the Deluxe box set (besides not having the roof top concert) is having a bit more of unreleased gems on the sessions and rehearsals CD's (And yes I know its because it was made in consideration of the running time of the LP box set, but WTF!?!? They could have added another album) -Missing is- Paul's Piano Tune (the intro to the Let it Be film), Two of Us (the fast version as performed in the movie), Across the Universe (also in the movie with Paul singing along with John), Besame Mucho, Suzy Parker, Woke Up This Morning (Wake up in the morning) Take this hammer/Black Dog medley, Lost My Little Girl, Watching Rainbows, Palace of the Birds, All Things Must Pass (the Beatles Version, Not the sub par version on this box set) Im hoping that maybe there will be a Soundtrack to the Peter Jackson film with MORE unreleased tracks from the Let it Be sessions.

14:27 "it's a little different style-wise...." I can't seem to get a definitive judgment either way from anyone about whether that 'Get Back' 2021 cover, from the same photo session that decorated the 1973 'blue!' dbl album compilation and the 'Get Back' bootleg, has been photoshopped or not. Some speculation is that GH and RS weren't smiling enough like the other 2 were, and alternate shots from the same session did show them smiling more but then the other 2 weren't smiley enough - - so a photoshop blended the smiliest of 2 smiley photos to make the smiliest possible smileable composite to show everyone The Beatles were as palsy as Uncle Albert and Admiral Halsey. Then someone else says they just chose a different shot in its entirety from the same session, just as authentic as the former take. And some think it's the exact same shot. I don't know, and I haven't heard a single thing all day that can nail the question. Some couldn;t give a shit either way of course. But with mucho talk of historical revisionism in the mixes and books of 3 Apple deluxe album sets now and other books and some dodgy Apple soundbites, including pitching a Glyn Johns mix that isn't a Glyn Johns mix, talk of jiggery-pokery with archival photographs gives me the heebie-jeebies and would give any historian the screaming meemies, and is not the least bit huny-dory in my end of town.

The new remix sounds ok , but one thing in particular bothers me about it On the track One After 909 , they’ve boosted Paul ’s vocals so much that it sounds like he’s the lead vocalist on the song , and John ’s voice is the backing vocal . I like Paul’s vocals a lot , but I want to hear John’s voice as lead vocal on this song . Otherwise, it’s ok .

The entire problem behind the idea of recording the Beatles stripped down is that, by 1969, the Beatles' recordings had utilized every studio trick in the book up to that point, even inventing many studio gimmicks and tricks that others would follow. I would argue that all the overdubs, tape-loops, feedback, sound effects, backwards playback, un-Rock instruments such as sitar, echo and reverb, blowing bubbles on Yellow Sub, ...these were AWESOME! More so, such studio wizardry was part & parcel who the Beatles were. It was stupid for the Beatles to ever even think that shedding all those bells & whistles would produce good fruit. And it didn't. The songs that ended up on the "Let it Be" album are dull, spiritless, empty, soulless songs that fall like a thud. This is the same band that, just two years prior, had recorded the brilliant Sgt. Pepper album??? Even the Beatles themselves realized this when, in the summer of '69, they regrouped and recorded the brilliant Abbey Road album using every studio trick and technique available them (including synthesizers), and produced a masterpiece. The concept of a stripped down "raw" Beatles, especially without George Martin as Producer, was always a stupid idea that even the Beatles themselves realized is completely uninspiring and uninteresting. The Beatles aren't the Band and Music from Big Pink is a thoroughly overrated record. The Beatles were always a billion times bigger and better than the Band could ever be in their wildest dreams. This 90's obsession with rootsy "authentic" music really needs to die already. Bring back the Psych era!

I totally agree with Norman that the omission of John's "Don't Let Me Down" [from the official 'Let It Be' album] is a tragic misstep. In my opinion, "Don't Let Me Down" is the easily best Beatles song from the Get Back early '69 sessions. It's just one more, out of dozens, of reasons why I rank the "Let It Be" album the lowest of all Beatles' albums.

I was pretty much done with the Beatles and crossed to the Stones. I still held up some hope , but " Let it be" exposed so much misery in them . I'm really not sure why they decided to walk us all into their type of Hospis . Nothing was that progressive and so over worked by Martin and Spector . In my opinion both ruined the Beatles . It was like the Beatles were their employees. The Stones should've shown up and pissed on the wall of the building.while they were playing 😜❗
