    Well done as always Paul. I rate “Let it Be” higher than most everybody else. I think the live feel works better than the more grandiose “Abbey Road.” I even like “Teddy Boy” !!!

    Regarding this new version of the Get Back album, I have read that for the song "For You Blue"
    they made a composite version by combining the Glyn Johns mix from 1969 (first 14 seconds)
    with the mix from 1970.
    Why they did that ?

    • @MsSteve70
      @MsSteve70 Před 2 lety

      They decided to use Glyn Johns later second mix attempt from early 1970 but still included the false start from the previous mix. I assume his second attempt at For You Blue was an improvement. Do note that Glyn made two compilation attempts at the Get Back album. Across the Universe and I Me Mine had to be included by early 1970 as they were featured in the print of the film, so this necessitated Glyn to make changes to several mixes and the track selection.

    As usual Paul, a good and well informed review of the Vinyl Super Deluxe version of the newly remixed Let It Be plus extras. I've always liked the original album; the version of "Across The Universe" that appears here is excellent - in my opinion Spector was right to slow the song down compared to the WWF version. I was hoping that they might have added "Two Of Us" (electric take) and "Get Back" (punk/rock take) from the Twickenham sessions as genuine alternate versions to the ones recorded later at the Apple Studio (I'm aware they were not properly recording tracks at Twickenham, nevertheless there were several takes of these 2 songs recorded on the Nagra tapes and these could have been issued on the so called Disc 5 EP). Still, a minor gripe.

  • @MarcusMaximus909
    @MarcusMaximus909 Před 2 lety +5

    After listening to the Glynn johns mix last night, no way could the beatles release that. Missed chords, breakdowns in music, out of tune in places , false starts, it was more like demo stuff or run through of songs in places. I get that it was supposed to have a live feel. But spector got the balance absolutely right. Glyn johns stuff is interesting no doubt. But just to rough and ready, likely the wrong takes chosen. The stand out were don't let me down, let it be and across the universe.

      Lennon said, "Phil wanted to work with us forever and we gave him the biggest piece of rubbish and he made something out of it." Rolling Stone said, that when people hear
      the Glyn Johns mix they will have a different opinion on the Spector version. Let's not forget that Spector did 'Instant Karma," "Happy Xmas, " the Plastic Ono Band album, and the "Imagine" album, too.

      @@MarcusMaximus909 I didn't miss it because all Harrison did his whole life was bitch about it. Spector gave him the biggest album of his career and he threw him under the bus. It was Harrison's album. If he didn't like it, which he says he didn't after the first take, then he should have gotten a different producer. Lennon didn't give Spector free
      rein. Geez, Phil's trademark was the "Wall of Sound," it wasn't as if Harrison didn't know that. McCartney bitches about Let It Be and Spector but gladly walks up and has John Wayne
      give him the Grammy for it. You can't have it both ways.

    I've a reasonably sized CD collection. And I'm interested in vastly expanding my somewhat pitiful LP collection, too. And eventually buying a decent record player, again, to play them all on. I also used to have "Rubber Soul", "Revolver", "Sgt. Pepper, "Abbey Road" & "Let It Be", on LP. (All bought in late, 1980. But all have sadly disappeared from my LP collection, over the years). I'm interested in rebuying them all again on LP. Where do I start? Are all these recent reissues, as good or better than the ones I purchased all those years ago, I wonder? Or is it worth me trying to buy online & replace the ones I had orginally, if that's possible?

    It's a pity they didn't put the CD box set in an LP size box/slipcase, then we could have got the LP size book as in the vinyl set,they went to all the expense of printing the book in 2 sizes, and releaseing the Abbey Road vinyl set without the book was a big mistake I think.
