This video goes over how to replace a throttle position sensor on a 2008 GMC Yukon with a 5.3 motor. This should be the same process for any (3rd Generation) 2007-2014 GMC Yukon with a 5.3. When you get a PO122 code like we had, it means that the throttle position sensor has a low circuit input and the voltage is below the sensor's anticipated range. A throttle positioning sensor is activated when the vehicle's accelerator is pushed. The throttle position sensor is then used to measure how to open the throttle valve, and therefore controlling the correct amount of air flow going into the engine intake manifold. Signs of a bad throttle positioning sensor would be a check engine light, idle surges, stalling for no reason, hesitation while accelerating etc.

Mines throwing a P0121 code but my buddy was telling me that after you change out the throttlebody that you have to get it programmed or else it idles at 2000 RPM it has to relearn is that correct or no???

Do you have to reprogram the throttle body after doing this?

I had a high idle call myself trying to cleaning it , it was normal then the needle would drop down (at idle) then shut down … had a cold front in Louisiana so I have to jump it tomorrow or Saturday and try to look at ya videos and figure it out

Cleaning the throttle body properly will help improve the idle, acceleration, fuel efficiency, and any potential issues with stalling. Use a throttle body cleaner that is specifically made for this application and use a toothbrush and a rag. Depending on mileage and condition it might be necessary to actually remove the throttle body.

I'm sure it works, but using a throttle body cleaner that was specifically made for this application would do a better job.
