Porsche GT3 vs Turbo S. Are 911 Turbos for old men?

- One of our favorite topics and one of our favorite discussions. Porsche 911 Turbo vs GT3!
This one is sure to stir up some strong opinions. Definitely two different cars with 2 different audiences.
turbo S is not just quicker in a straight line but also on track
Yup.
While a turbo s (991 and 992) are quicker in top speed and launch, GT3 on the track is quicker (in more capable hands).
For reference see (czcams.com/video/psYWtQvMznA/video.html) comparison between a car reviewer and a racing driver @ the famous Spa-Francorchamps. Here a heavier but a more powerful Turbo can still shine because of a long uphill as well as the high speed nature of the circuit. GT3 ends up being quicker in more capable hands on the circuit, but a more relaxing long distance GT cruiser.
@@stanmarks3950 i agree gt3 is a serious track weapon but just not have the torque of the turbo engine. once simple stage 1 remap and the gt3 is history even on track. Funny thing is, i own a turbo s but want to change it to the gt3/gt3 rs
@@stanmarks3950no it wasn’t. Turbo S was quicker for both drivers
@@omarlondonYou don't own a Turbo S
Old guys like to go fast.
Younger guys like to look like they go fast...
hahahah
Well put~
😂😂😂
I am lucky to own both. 991.2 Turbo S and GT3 Touring.
I can not decide which one is more fun: 9000rpm of Gt3 or unbelievable torque of Turbo S. Thats why I keep both.
TurboS feels a bit more like a supercar due to low rpm torque which is always available, while Gt3 needs revs above 6k.
And there's a place for both - for sure! There really is no right or wrong answer, of course. Different cars with different personalities for different people looking for specific things! :). Thanks for commenting. Cheers!
The GT3 is a very beautiful car and a wonderful track car. However, it’s uncomfortable as hell on the road. The seats suck as do the amenities in it. Yes I know it’s not designed for those things. It’s designed to be on the track. The turbo S hands-down is the winner if you want something overall for a daily, and you only could get one. Going to a track is fun when it’s just not something I would do all the time. Actually, it would be very rare for me. I have a new turbo S that will be here in a couple months. It’s my second one.
I daily all of my GT3s and don't find them uncomfortable on the road at all..Perfect for road rallys, etc. Different strokes for different folks! :)
Call me old because I am going Turbo for daily. For emotions on track I can opt out for stick shifted stripped shitbox of any brand.
Turbos are awesome dailies for sure.
Same here 😂
I have both in my garage. 991.1 GT3 RS and 992 Turbo S. By a large margin, the RS is the one I want to drive, most of the time. Except when I need to take a call while commuting.
Lucky to have both. The 992 is a rocket ship! Fabulous cars for sure... but I'm taking the GT car 95% of the time too! Cheers!
hire me
As an old guy its funny to see a bunch of old guys say old men drive turbos but they all like GT's :) the right answer is we all love Porsches!
hahahaha. Great comment. Mikey was the one that said they were for old men... and he's the youngest in the group! Not sure we're a bunch of old men quite yet...but I suppose we're getting there!
Being 38 (34 at 3RS purchase) and a GT car owner is still on the younger side of any high level Porsche owner. It was all in jest anyway. You got the right answer! :-)
IM NOT OLD> YOUNG AT HEART FOREVER LOL
Spot on! Owned and driven both cars. A 2015 Turbo S with the PDK and a 2019 GT3 manual (current car). Driven them both hard as one should but the visceral experience in the GT3 with the sounds that it makes and the weight distribution through corners and shifting my own cannot be beaten in my book. To each his own but for me the GT3 is the ONE!!!
Welcome the the GT3 fanboy club!! 😁😁
Totally agree… manual GT3 all the way.
Turbo S is faster and more comfortable, but misses that rough edge.
I’m with you - owned a modified turbo- crazy fast. But sold it and got a 991.2 gt3. Nowhere near as fast - until you hit the track or some twisties. It’s the sound and the utter competence of the gt3 that had me at hello!
i love hearing these opinions. im a turbo S old man. GT3 is a better "track car" however id guess most novice drivers will run a faster time on their local track in the turbo. id actually bet money on this. and as we all know most people are novice drivers.
All good points. I can’t argue with any of that. Thanks for the feedback. We are just a bunch of idiots that like to share our Sunday morning coffee talk. 😁
From a price perspective, all GT and Turbo Porsche 911s are for old men. Unless you are a Silicon Valley mogul, drug dealer, rap star or slip-and-fall lawyer.
Don’t forget fiscally irresponsible!! 😂😂
Or doctor 😊
The real answer
@@obadhasairafe2856doctors aint 20
Trick question: 997 manual turbo is the answer. best of both worlds... you get maybe the best looking (and definitely best sized) porsche, arguably more analog and raw than modern 992 gt3 and definitely faster with a quick ecu tune. unless you're tracking the car a lot but at that point I might just get a pure track car.
Nothing wrong with that! 997 turbo is a great car. :) The 992 GT3 is also a dream. :). Not sure about the analog comparison but I'd consider the GT3 to be a more pure driving experience...lighter, RWD, chassis, etc... But all great choices here and I admit that I'm a GT car fanboy!!!
997.2 GT3 RS keeps me thoroughly enthralled.
I made this choice for a daily driver - went Turbo - its just a much better choice for UK roads. If I tracked it every weekend, I would have totally gone GT3.
sounds like the right choice. cheers!
does it ever feel like it's too wide for the country road?
They both have their perks . but you cant be Unhappy in either car
@@fififairuzfuyooo No not at all.
This is why GTS is always the sweet spot.
Manual GTS 👍
Great reference! The peppiness, the screaming nature and the response to the rider inputs... There's a huge difference b/w a 2 stroke bike and a 4 stroke
Great video!
I went from a GT3 to a Turbo S. The GT car beat the living hell out of me. The ride was brutal. I thought my fillings would come out! LOL. The Turbo S is firm, but livable, much more livable on a daily basis. Guess I’m an old man! LOL.
Doesn't matter. There is no right or wrong answer just different preferences for different personalities. I almost never feel like my GT3s are too harsh...and find them just fine on road trips, etc. They're down right cushy compared to Mikey's RWB... so I guess it just depends what your look for...and maybe to some extent what your local roads are like. Thanks for watching' cheers!
so good you are able to be content with 1 sports car, even if that means switching them out every 6-12 months. Even with taxes, insurance, depreciation, registration, storage, upkeep, service etc. I think the costs of that is still much much lower than me owning 6 cars (ferrari lambo porsche), with half of them being with me 4 years or older (longest is 8 years). I just like to know the cars inside out, every blemish corrected, fully ppfed, all matching screws....every new acquisition gives me anxiety just thinking about hidden issues or problems that will take me years to fix LOL
hahahaha. For one car, the GT3 ticks a lot of boxes...it's a pure driver of course...and it's reliable, cheap to service, Having more (sports)cars is always a temptation and what most of my buddies are doing... I downsized the house and have gone a bit more minimalistic and that also has its perks! I got tired of constant house and yard issues! Sounds like you have an awesome collection. I hope you enjoy them in good health and are out there putting some miles on those beauties!
Hey man love the Porsche content!!!
Thanks for the comment! Looking forward to sharing some more stuff soon! Cheers!
Im going with luxury for this kind of money. GT's are wicked and Im not denying it but loud untilitarian stripped down interior all that makes a racecar better but the Turbo and the Turbo S are road cars dive it to Utah Its just what you want. You want to go to the track get a GT if you want to listen to music and drive somewhere with some woman you like...Turbo
Can't argue with that logic. Different cars and different experiences for different people!
Gt3 rs all day. The turbo is faster the gt3 looks better and sounds epic
Absolutely!
💯! GT cars only all the way! I concur with your 6-9, or somewhere in the first 2 year remark. When this occurs for me, I go out and rent a Lambo, Ferrari, or McLaren, then hop back into my Porsche. This makes me immediately appreciate and fall in love with my car all over again! Wishing you many happy miles in your GT3!
Thanks Pedro! (Wes here) I am definitely a GT3 fanboy. Everybody has their perfect car and it's definitely mine! The 992 is sublime. I can't imagine downgrading to a Turbo!! lolz... :)
I'm taking the GT3, I like the Turbo and Turbo S. I just like the GT3 because it's visceral on the emotions.
Welcome to the club! :)
Oh no😱 my car must mean I’m an old guy 😂
Turbos are amazing. :)
Clearly, precisely described. GT cars have wires to your senses like no other (or very few..). For me is GT3
Couldn't agree more
Love Porsche. This discussion over Turbo Vs. GT will always be present in the community. I daily a Turbo S, Drive a CSX Shelby Cobra on the weekend, and beat on a Rover in the winter. If I didn’t have a Shelby, id dump the turbo and buy a Speedster.
I'm an old man and I have a turbo. I enjoy it. So what? Buy what you want.
I have owned both at the same time and sold both and got the RS , GT3 a drivers car and has more emotion the Turbo dose not have this but it's still a sick car.
Rs is my Favorite, I couldn't do anything else and be happier
Lots of good options. Thanks for chiming in!
I’d not old, but personally I’d probably go, turbo, or carrera T
All good answers! Cheers!
Easy to answer. If I'm single, or I like driving without the S.O. (alone time), then GT3 easily. If I have an S.O. who I enjoy sharing my trips with? Turbo S easily.
Makes sense to me!
Turbo all day for daily driving. I’m not a professional driver and will not be taking my 911 on a track or circuit anytime soon. GT 911’s have great styling but in my opinion they lack the essence of original 911’s. To me GT 911 looks like the boy racer who used to own an Evo or STI in their broke days but now makes six figures. They do sound better though!
All opinions are welcome! Different cars for different people - that's for sure!
I'd like to have both. If only one, probably the GT for the twisted roads.
I'm right there with ya! Thanks for chiming in
Its not about whats faster, its about the experience... the way the car responds and sounds and how the materials of the interior and looks of exterior make you feel.... ultimately both cars are equally amazing but worlds apart
You nead more cars. Nothing beats the Turbo s as a touring weapon and on the road the suspension is awesome when the road is rough.
I chose the Lotus Exige 420 as my gt car.
Also I have Arial atom 310.
Just a chance for us to migrate our Sunday morning breakfast chat in front of a camera. :). Thanks for watching. Cheers!
But sometimes the condition of the roads where you live dictates which version you should get.
Absolutely!
I have owned 992 turbo s and 992 gt3. Turbo faster more comfortable and easier to live with. But the driving experiance in the gt3 is a different level. Each to their own i suppose. Now driving the gt4rs and that is even better than the other 2.
Congrats! Sounds like you've had similar experiences as some of us. Jeff just bought that GT4RS. We need to get him on camera to compare that to his GT3...He's got some other interesting cars coming too!
There nothing like manual GT3 , I 99,9% positive I would get bored with PDK turbo with in few hours, 2 years and 9k mi on my 992 GT3 and I get goosebumps every time I get in it. Absolutely on target!
Amen brother!!! Got my 992 a few weeks ago. TOO DAMN GOOD!!! The front end is SUBLIME!!! Cheers!!
Oh man I think because I’m more of a roadtrip and adventure kind of guy, the GT3 Touring but with a. Dakar suspension setup would be the perfect 992 911 for me. But my goal is a GT3 Touring 992 in the future for sure. Turbos are awesome but a bit too subtle for my taste.
Turbo people will not be swayed! Nothing wrong with that! Different cars for different people and different uses... But for me, it's not even close! The turbo weighs a lot more, it's not RWD, the chassis and the sounds aren't as good. The GT3 is much more pure driving experience. I don't think that's really debatable. :). To each their own of course!!
@@howellwes i would not go for the touring as it is relatively easy to remove the back wing on the regular GT3.
Be sure to test drive one as the suspension is much stiffer compared to the 991.2 GT3, not comfortable for a roadtrip.
if i had the budget for it i would much rather a gt3 but a turbo is more doable if your ballin on a budget. if anyone on here knows where to find gt3s for a good price online please commment!! p.s speedepic your channel is way over due, love your content brother
Thank you for the kind words. It's been a crapload of work to get the content to where it is... We didn't want to just blab about random stuff for 90 mins! We'll see where it goes. Thanks for chiming in!!
To me I go for Turbo S because I want to use it for every day
five 991's - wow!
For me (regular 911 4S) turbo is for the road & GT3 for track
I’m a nut. Life is short!! Cheers!!
@@howellwes long live the nuts!😆
I own both and use them for two different reasons……Turbo S daily driver……..more power than you need but lots of fun…..
GT3 for sport & track and road racing…..GT3 louder tighter and very tight feeling every bump….made to race not look at!
Best of both worlds would be 997.1/2 turbo 6spd. Power and comfort of a turbo with Rawness ans analog feel of a GT3. Metzger engine sounds with a exhaust
Don't forget about the 997 RS! I so wish I would have bought that car and kept it!
@@speedepic me too. But thats out the realm for me now. Easier for me to get a 991.2 GT3
Turbo plumbing diminishes other desirable engine sounds. Now if you no longer possess ability to hear those, or don’t care, then hyperspace launch of Turbo is amusing. In my case, far prefer NA motors and linear responses at lower speeds vs incredible passing power of turbo engines. Now if I were buying new would I avoid a 992 Carrera T manual? Of course not.
Absolutely!!! :) Cheers!
I just picked up my first Porsche!!! 2014 Turbo S!
Congrats!! Sweet ride! You will love it. Go put some miles on that thing!!!!
Porsche doesn't make dragsters. They're all about performance and that means cornering on rails.
Anyone know what wheels were on his previous Black 991 turbo S.
looked great!
Brixton Forged. I can’t remember the specialty finished but I’m sure you can find out from Brixton. They really were epic wheels
I've owned both .... both are great cars....it all depends on what you are looking for!? and how you want to drive.....1 car is not better than another
The real question is 6 speed or PDK? Wes was all about the PDK but your newest toy is manual! What changed?
No wrong answer here. I actually slightly prefer PDK in the GT3 but was happy to switch things up and go with a manual in my 992. It is absolutely SUBLIME.
GT3 if you like emotion, turbo s if you want a rocket. Gt3 is plenty quick, holds value better, sounds better, NA engine. Gt3 is best car ever made imo and i hope i will buy it soon
Turbo is portly compared to the GT3. Weight is such a difference maker in terms of fun to drive.
It is heavier and on the track it is noticeable. However, on the road a bit of weight helps stabilise the car against the real world crap roads. Too light and the potholes, bumps and ridges will knock the car off course. Just my 2 cents worth
At 170 plus… I’d much rather be in the turbo!! But the GT3 is much more exhilarating!!
I had a 997 turbo and 991 gt3 now love the gt3 but miss the manual
Roads in America are so bad that you’re going to be beat up in any GT3
I’ve put 8k on mine in the last year. Zero issues with roads.
What wheels are on the black Turbo S?
What steps can I take to afford a GT2/3? I currently make 6 figs as an engineer in an expensive area and trade stocks (mainly options) but still feel like I can't afford this lifestyle yet.
Try Cryoto
Not sure which 6 figures you’re making but you need at least 6 figs starting with a 3 not a 1 or even 2.
I have a 600hp r32 gtr, then decided i needed something with a pdk. I test drove my friends 991.1 GT3 and yes it was nice but it felt slow... so i ended up buying a turbo s. no regrets. but after a week I felt numb to the power... its now booked in for a 750whp bolt on kit. it should be fun and make all the right noises.
Nice! Sounds like you’re having a lot of fun with your cars. That’s the name of the game! 😊
@@howellwes thanks! I find it hard to keep a car stock 😅
Who makes the wheels you put on the turbo S please
@brixtonforged Give those guys a call - they are perfectionists and continually improve their designs and fit.
911 turbo s
No wrong answers! Thanks for watchin'!
Thanks, you helped me make up my mind, between the GT3 and a 911 Turbo S. Just need crypto to come back from the dead.
The only other car I'd buy again is a GT350R.
There is nothing like driving or even riding in a GT car!
Amen brother!
Why cant I have both? In fact Ive 3GT’s and a TurboS.
Gt all the way
Aint no doubt about it!! Thanks for watching!
The GT3 only makes sense if you want to use it primarily(=90% of the time) for track days and canyon runs & twisty roads. For daily usage, and freeway driving, the Turbo S is far superior.
I've put 8k miles on mine in the past year... and they've all been wonderful. If I want something for daily and freeway driving...I'll drive the Audi. :)
@@howellwes Exactly. If you have a car for daily, than the GT3 is a no brainer.
What age is considered old?
I find this mildly insulting. I’m 77 years old and taken multiple track racing programs. I drive with a group of talented guys all with GT3 or GTS cars. My car is a 997.1 with manual transmission, the oldest car with the oldest driver. That being said, when we figure out the order regarding who should be leading,, I am usually in the top three or four. Just because you’re old doesn’t mean you can’t drive well and fast.
There was no part of it that was a dig against older people. Glad you’re out having fun and kicking ass on the track!
Guys, while I'd love to share my thoughts on gt3 v turbo s, I need to know which wheels are on the black 991.2 turbo s pictured in this video! Please can someone tell me exactly what they are? I'm sick of putting up with porsche turbo wheels. By the way turbo all the way....had both, agin and again, for every day needs and thrills, turbo! My tack days are done though so I don't need the versatility for that. Wheels please someone! 🙏
Brixton Forged. Cheers!!
True cognoscenti buy just the turbo, not the S, in understated colors
GT3 2024 looks ridiculous IMO, not a practical car for daily use, it's more for going to the track the weekends, it's like having a MV Augusta F4 or a BMW S1000 RR for street use. By other hand the Turbo S is like a MV Augusta Brutale RR or a Ducati Monster plus, they have the power and don't look ridiculous on the Costco parking lot.
My GT3 looks fantastic at Costco!!!
Gt3 is actually not uncomfortable with standard seats. Actually smoother and more fun to drive than the 911T 992. The T makes crappy sounds and is very uncomfortable on the road. The Pdk gt3 is an emotional ride at high rpm’s.
I’ll take a turbo s any day a simple tune intake exhaust turbo can be at 800hp
GT all the way!!!
Hell yeah brother!!!! 😁💯🤙
Why are these guys so serious looking? Felt like an interrogation instead of a discussion. And wearing all black like their cool teenagers or something. These middle aged men need to grow up.
An old guy saying old guys drive Turbo S cars! Comical
Any GT car over turbo.
Does it really freakin' matter? To each their own preference (@3:23) They are all awesome.
I guess it might matter if you were in the market to buy one.
Gt3MR?
I’ve got the gt3 touring manual & it’s far superior to the turbo as in you can’t use all the power in the turbo
Nice job editing the title! Grammar
It's actually called a typo. But thanks for the heads up douchebag.
And like the guy with the beard is not an old man???
He's not even 40! What are you 14? :)
Turbo all the way!!!
Turbo s all day every day
The answer is to have one of each😊the best of both worlds
This is absolutely the truth! I'm with you on that.
I am an old GT3 series racer. I will guarantee I can take a Porsche Turbo S and embarrass these guys in their GT's. Only a superior racer can take advantage of the track characteristics of the Porsche GT cars. In 99% of other instances the lower end power and greater top end will give the advantage to the Porsche Turbo S.
The answer is to buy a GT2
For some, sure.. Jeff had both and preferred the GT3 on the track. More linear, better sound....more enjoyable to get the most out of it on the track..
Turbo S camp for me
Haha no GTs for old men.
Hope we aren't offending anyone! Just having some fun and sharing our opinions!
anyone driving an automatic is not of interest to me.
PDK is pretty epic... And it makes it easier to push the car on a track for sure. But I hear ya. The manual in the 992 is sublime!
When does this guy find time to actually drive his cars? He's far too busy buying and selling.
It’s a rough life
GT3 wins over turbo even when PDK vs. PDK but GT3 with manual is 1000x better than PDK
Neither, get a GT2
Awesome cars for sure. You better know what you’re doing. :)
GT2 would scare the fuck out of, and I wouldnt enjoy it ......or would I 🤔SOMEONE let me drive their GT2RS
Old men Drive turbos, as you guys are old men you should drive turbos
Sweet. Thanks!
they got a point, like me bilions
democracy....alowing fools to their opinion
That probably means something to somebody. Nice work!
