Actually it's really rare when any player has the guts to pull this off, they are usually all smiles and bowing their heads talking smooth bullshit. I respected this in Bale, and regardless of all this, when he had the chance he always delivered.
@@MiklosHajma real madrid is the best club in history because every player is expected to give his best at all times no matter the circumstances, or at least try to. Bale didn't care or deliver the goods in the last 2 or 3 seasons simply because he didnt want to, as you said. His contribution to the last CL win was negative. Having the potential, not caring and slacking is far worse (other than unprofessional) than not having potential and giving 100%. Ill put 2 players as example: Alvaro arbeloa was a trash player but his effort and commitment was unquestionable, that doesnt make him a legend but is worth indulging over bale's prima donna attitude. Fernando Redondo was and is a legend. Less impactful visually but he led the team with commitment despite real madrid having some of their worst seasons in history. Any true real madrid fan that has lived through such phases will always pick a limping Redondo over bale.
I will always remember his solo goal against Barcelona in the Copa Del Rey Final, i was 14 years old, i will remember it even on my death bed.

Bale was absolutely a success. Extremely underrated. The greatest British player ever in my opinion. He was electric at Spurs, scoring ridiculous long shots and pulling off crazy dribbles every week. He dominated the prem and got a deserved transfer to Madrid. Sure, he was injured frequently. But the fact is Bale was World-class there, scoring loads of goals and for long periods he might have been the best player there who’s name isn’t Cristiano. And don’t get me started on the iconic performances. In terms of clutch performances, he does not have an equal. Won the copa deal Rey against THAT Barcelona team with THAT goal. Scored the game deciding goal in the 13-14 final. Assisted and sunk a pen on the 16 final. And produced one of the greatest performances of all time on the biggest stage imaginable in the 17 final. A bicycle kick and long shot in the champions league final is ridiculous. Anyone who seriously wants to say Bale wasn’t a success at Madrid surely must be kidding themselves. From the outside, the relationship did look toxic. But I firmly believe Bale was mistreated particularly by Zidane definitely by the Spanish media. He always gave his all for the club and put in a litany of world class performances. Simply put, I don’t think Bale did that much wrong and was instead unfairly attacked due to his injury problems. Bale came back to spurs for one season, playing infrequently. But when he did, he was superb and showed exactly why he’s one of the best in the business. Then he played for LAFC where had about 7 touches. His last one was in the 128th minute to tie the league cup final decider, which they won on pens. Once more only Bale is that clutch. And all this is not to mention what he achieved for Wales, with only 3 million. He dragged them to their first Euros where he took them to the semi finals (THE SEMI FINALS OF THE EUROS!!!). They beat #1 ranked Belgium, went further than England and were just incredible. That achievement is unbelievable and wouldn’t have happened without him. He then did the same for Wales for Euro 2020, where they once more made it out of the group stage. And finally, at the end of his career, an aging Bale scored all three goals in our World Cup 22 qualifiers. Two screamers against Austria and a long distance free kick against Ukraine. And then he scored Wales only goal against the USA. No man has EVER done what he did in the red of wales and is what makes him the best British player ever imo. Wales had qualified to one major tournament before him in 1964. He qualified for 3 and took Wales to heights they never should’ve been able to reach. Of course as a proud welsh man, I totally admit to nostalgia goggles. But Bale is a hero to the whole of Wales and I don’t think there’s ever been a Welshman more loved or revered. On his day, he was unplayable. Many people say that after Messi and CR7, Neymar is the best player of that generation. I politely disagree. For me it’s Gareth Bale ❤🏴

Moving to Real Madrid is nightmare to many players. You not only need to be the best, but also the most marketeable and because your fee is likely overflown you need to able to fit on the system of the 3 - 4 coches you will see in your career. If you are not able to fit complete different systems, since your tranfer fee was astronomical they cant quite sell you so they keep you in the bench and your career will wither away. Also, the team often buys world class players to prevent champions league competitions from getting them rather than actually wanting to use said player.

Bale was the closest as far as ability to Cristiano, but he wasn't obsessed, strong minded, dedicated as CR7. I know Bale work hard to certain degree (I remember the 2nd season he was with Madrid, he was jacked), but it was never to the level of CR7. CR7 was essentially an freak, a person obsessed with winning which makes him more appealing to Real madrid fanbase.

I kind of hoped he would go to Milan after leaving Real where he would get in good shape for World Cup 2022. Unfortunately that didn't happen. Still it's not sad that he retired. His career was great and he doesn't need to do anything anymore. It's better to retire at the age of 33 than being one of those footballers who force themselves to play until they're 40.

I am a Real Madrid fan and have watched many matches throughout Bale´s years in Real Madrid. Too many injuries, but he was almost unstoppable until he was 28 years of age. From there onwards his physical condition decayed. He wasnt as fasta and powerful as he once had been. He still scored important goals (his habilities were not inly speed and power), but his level was not the same.
I've never seen a left-footed strike as precise or as powerful as Bale when he was fit. This guy was one of the most gifted athletes the world has ever seen. Unfortunately, he was riddled with injuries, but bro, watch his highlight reels, and you will see a monster amongst mortals. This guy was above and beyond any player in his prime. I miss him so much. I'm only a year older than him, and seeing Ronaldo, who's 4 years older than me still playing, makes me sad to say he's only a glimpse in my football memory. FOREVER A LEGEND.

I feel myself getting older and older. I remember playing football manager games where Bale was 16 years old and easily the best youngster in the game. There was no cristiano or messi in the simulations but there was Bale. He played with my teams till he was in his late 30's

Bale was one of my favorite players. Such a great talent. He had plenty of great games and awesome goals to look back on his career.

I loved watching bale as a left back those first few seasons. Giving him all that room to build up speed as he made his dangerous runs forward, it was just a thing of beauty. He played with so much bravado then… he may have left his defense exposed, but that was just part of the allure of seeing his mad sprints forward.

Nothing happened "to" him. More like Real Madrid just happened to itself. When you sign for this club you should know that your options are limited. It's the adaptability to a status quo, your relationship with Spanish media, and especially with the coach. IMO he did what he wanted to do, he wasnt the kind of player to aim for 5 ballon d'ors or whatever, guy just did his thing and let life fall into place. I respect this approach instead of the footballers that devote their entire life to football for their entire lives in order to be the greatest. He's a genuine cool guy and a natural athlete.

He never really held down a starting place at Madrid and never managed to score a 100 La Liga goals, only managing 80 in total. After Ronaldo left he dropped off a cliff, too, only managing 14 goals and 7 assists in all competitions (8 goals and 4 assists in the league) as Madrid failed to win the league, got battered at home by *that* young Ajax team, and got destroyed by Barca in the copa de rey
They never reached another UCL final until he basically stopped playing, only playing 7 minutes in Madrid's 20/21 UCL win over Liverpool.
So, yeah. Legend would be stretching things. Cult hero would be closer, but he threw that away with his poor behaviour

At least Benzema stepped up in otherwise a very poor Madrid season. I would say the same thing about Isco failing post Ronaldo but that's another story for another day.
