    Arcade chain Dave and Buster’s plan to allow customer betting isn’t winning over everyone.
    Software company Lucra Sports announced on Tuesday that it was working with the entertainment chain to allow customers to place wagers on their arcade games through the Dave & Buster’s app.
    But some lawmakers are calling foul.
    Illinois State Rep. Daniel Didech, a Democrat from Buffalo Grove, filed a bill on Thursday that’s designed to prohibit family amusement establishments from facilitating wagering on amusement games. He is also looking to criminalize the activity by amending the Illinois Criminal Code. His bill has bipartisan support and is backed by more than two dozen other state lawmakers.
    “It is inappropriate for family-friendly arcades to facilitate unregulated gambling on their premises. These businesses simply do not have the ability to oversee gambling activity in a safe and responsible manner,” Didech said in a statement.

    From the outside looking in, it’s fascinating how aggressive the US allows companies to be when it comes to gambling so soon after legalizing it. It’s getting integrated into everything without a second thought, without any data on how it’s going to impact the population. Kinda looks like a crisis waiting to happen, because a vast majority of people will lose money doing this and the only people profiting are enormous corporations that only care about the bottom line.

      This was entirely predictable especially given the timing and the state of the economy both for the private and public sectors. There's also always a mad dash for corporations to acquire as much market share and push the legal/compliance limits while the door is open from the political sphere.
      The fact so many states are so l'aissez-faire in regards to gambling regulations now is also due to thos very states being very desperate for tax revenues and are willing and able to allow the gambling industry become a major tax revenue contributor. Not to mention at a party/representative level all those political "donations" pouring in courtesy of the gambling lobbyists.

    The most frustrating thing about the gambling in our culture right now is that it bleeds into other things. You can’t play fantasy football for bragging rights. There has to be money on the line. You can’t just unlock a skin in a video game. There has to be a loot box.
    I find myself growing addicted to things easily -it’s why I choose not to drink or gamble. It is already challenging to be an adult who doesn’t drink. It limits things you can enjoy. Now that gambling is taking over it has made things even more challenging.
    Just because I don’t enjoy it doesn’t mean other people can’t enjoy it responsibly but it makes me nervous about things moving forward. Casinos don’t cut you off like a bar. And a night of too much drinking usually just results in a hangover. Too much gambling and your life is potentially ruined.

    I always wanted to go to Dave & Buster's, but unfortunately, the closest one to me is about an hour's drive away. As for sports betting, I know it's a growing industry (and my state is among those that have legalized it), and while I don't think it should be illegal, I don't want to send the message to society that it's OK to gamble as much as you want. Gambling is addictive and can cause all kinds of financial problems if allowed to reach that level. Just because a behavior is legal doesn't mean that it should be encouraged. For that matter, I wish our culture treated alcohol and marijuana more like tobacco, but I digress.

    Well, this isn't the tale of a proverbial car going off a cliff. This is the tale of a broken taillight behind the burning trunk of a car that has already gone off of the cliff. Gambling is totally off its leash now, and it's ruining pro sports already. It's becoming rigged just like the stock markets. It's the reason I don't seriously follow sports anymore, and why I think the leagues (beginning with MLB) will eat their own tails with their newfound "partnerships" with Fanduel and all the other largely unregulated sports betting and fantasy sports...So let's think about why this cheesy move on Dave & Buster's part. What does D&B have that casinos and sportsbooks don't? If you said "KIDS!", you win the stuffed panda bear! The returns from such a carny game enterprise don't seem worthwhile to me, unless - wait for it - you have nefarious forces from the gaming industry installing this nonsense just to get "the action" closer to the hoardes of kids running around in there. Just like the cigarette companies did with candy cigarettes in the 50s, and just like they're doing now with "flavors", and making vaping the oh so cool thing to do. Hook 'em as kids, and you've got 'em for life...The US Government is exercising no more ethical control over industry now than the British Parliament did when it was dumping boatloads of opium into Chinese ports in the 1800s - a travesty that we are still suffering the effects of to this day...The way we're going they might as well put cocaine back in Coca-Cola and amphetamines back in Pepsi. As another commentary alluded to, the quickest and most effective way to enslave people is to create and feed their addictions. What's next? Porn movies at Chuck E. Cheese?... 😒 ...Oh, wait. Those were just vulgar robots...

      It’s not that I think it shouldn’t be allowed, for the reasons you said, but like Brodie said I do think it’s very unfortunate that it’s becoming commonplace for people to not be able to just enjoy watching sports or have a good time playing games with friends for what it is, now people need to have their face in a betting app to have a good time.
      These companies are egging people on to essentially waste their own money under the guise of “do this so you can have a good time with your buddies!” will just contribute to how damn near everything is monetized nowadays.
      So yes while I do believe that this shouldn’t be illegal because that’s what freedom is, that doesn’t make this kind of stuff immune from criticism.

      @@brodiebrazil Yes and it is not Dave and Busters responsibility to protect them from themselves. Those people should seek help, and I hope that they do. But that has nothing to do with Dave and Busters. I personally would not be interested in gambling on these games, but if some grown adults wish to do so, they should be allowed to. If it isnt an aspect of Dave and Busters that you are not interested in, then you can easily not participate in that aspect. Same goes for betting on sports. I think we should educate young people about the dangers of gambling, but I do not believe in getting into the business of telling adults how they should spend their money.

      @kingdom7777777 Před 13 dny

      @@douglasalbert2535 No doubt, Id be a hypocrite if I said iv never bet on sports. I rarely do, I prefer fantasy and playoff pools, although I rarely even do that. I think that for some people it brings a level of fun to sports and its very easy to get caught up in it. I just don't give too much attention to it. I think its a way for Dave and Busters to make extra money, but if people want to get involved with it then fine. I dont even see the point in the criticism. People are going to bet on all kinds of things. People are going to go broke from reckless gambling. Nothing you can do will stop it. No matter how good your intentions, or no matter how much you wish it to be true, you cant make people make good choices. I think people just seem to pile on the sports gambling issue too much. Sports gambling has been around since the dawn of time. We are just seeing it more without the shady illegal betting rings. It is just another revenue stream for Dave and Busters.
