    About The Game:
    Final Fantasy Tactics is a tactical role-playing game developed and published by Squaresoft (later changed to Square and now Square Enix) for the Sony PlayStation video game console. It is the first game of the Final Fantasy Tactics series and was released in Japan in June 1997 and in the United States in January 1998. The game combines thematic elements of the Final Fantasy video game series with a game engine and battle system unlike those previously seen in the franchise. In contrast to other 32-bit era Final Fantasy titles, Final Fantasy Tactics uses a 3D, isometric, rotatable playing field, with bitmap sprite characters.

    DO NOT make fun of the Calculator job. It is simply the most overpowered class in the history of gaming. The ability to use math to calculate targets and spells seems odd at first, but when you truly master the class it is simply Godly.

      yeah this game reminds me of game of thrones since a lot of people get kill, assassinated, or murder in the royal families. either by people they trusted or family, all to get the throne even after the ending you read that your actions where cover up by the church and all those who said otherwise where executed or burn alive, real dark man.

    I really like how Ramza and Delita are foils. Ramza starts as a noble. Delita starts as a peasant. Ramza ends the game as a nobody, but he has friends who love him. Delita ends the game as the King, but everyone hates him.

    • @MrGarretto100
      @MrGarretto100 Před 5 lety +24

      I wouldn't necessarily say Delita was hated by everyone in the end. And overall, I wouldn't say he was doing everything for his own selfish gain. The whole premise of the game is a book or paper that was written by Orlandu's son called the Durai Paper's. The world viewed Delita as the hero who, as a commoner, tore down all the corrupt nobles and unified the land under his rule and that is at least partially true. The Durai Paper's was written to expose the real story behind what actually happened, that being the story line you play through.
      Delita isn't even completely at fault for losing everything he cared about the most. His sister dying was not something he could stop. They were 2 commoners that were in the wrong place at the wrong time and not by choice. They were raised alongside the Beoulve family. Treated like royalty compared to commoners but looked down on by royalty. Delita's sister gets captured because they thought she was royalty. She dies because she is viewed as expendable. The royals just want to finish off the Death Corps and now they know where their base is. This is what fuels Delita for the rest of the story. He is basically hell bent on getting back at royalty and to level the playing field between them and commoners.
      Once he discovers Ovelia is just a commoner that was adopted and is being used like a pawn, he knows now how to do that. He's being truthful throughout the game when he tells Ovelia he wants to make the world a better place and make her queen like she rightfully should be in his eyes. He never wavers in his wants and he has no reason to lie to her since he knows she is common blood. And nothing points to him ever lying about that. But he gets caught up in using people just like what he's trying to stop and Ovelia realizes this at some point which is why she tries to kill him at the end. His last line saying something like, "This is what I got in all of this. What did you get Ramza?" Which I interpret as him thinking he succeeded but lost anything and everything important to him on his path to trying to complete his dream of making the world a better place.
      It's sad really. He actually loved Ovelia in my opinion but was blind to the fact that his actions were corrupt, just like the people he was trying to tear down and replace.
      This is how I interpret everything anyway

    • @kaitoudark1
      @kaitoudark1 Před 5 lety +11

      I'd also remind folks that Delita is etched in history by the populace as not just a hero king, but THE hero king. It's more accurate to say that the church and select members of the nobility were less than fond of him, due to his pro equality policies.
      If anyone hated Delita in the end, it was himself; which is arguably worse than being openly disliked. It's knowing everyone praises you, loves you, appreciates and respects you; but knowing full well that you're not really being the person you had hoped to become. That you must suffer in silence and do unspeakable things for the greater good as a figurehead, catalyst of change, and symbol of hope; despite loathing yourself because you've become what you thought was a problem to begin with, but did so out of necessity.

  • @anaheim767
    @anaheim767 Před 7 lety +99

    They missed a lot actually, some of the biggest points being-
    Delita doesn't die
    Ramza doesn't a funeral at all because he was called a heretic by the church. His actions are buried by the church. Ramza follows the righteous path the entire game and never gets the credit for it.

    • @HateTaxesWASt
      @HateTaxesWASt Před 7 lety +18

      And Olan is killed because of the Durai papers which claim that the Church was behind it all, Delita is a massive manipulator and Ramza is the real hero.

    • @ElliotKeaton
      @ElliotKeaton Před 7 lety +35

      Delita manipulated horrible people/factions into killing eachother off, seized power and used it to usher in a golden age in memory of his sister who was killed because she was considered expendable livestock by the ruling class.
      There's a reason he's remembered as a great king.

    • @HateTaxesWASt
      @HateTaxesWASt Před 7 lety +6

      ElliotKeaton Ramza is a horrible person? Delita manipulated Ramza. Delita was not the hero of the War of the Lions, it was Ramza. But Delita didn't want to share any of the spotlight with Ramza.

    • @ElliotKeaton
      @ElliotKeaton Před 7 lety +25

      Zandandido Delita manipulated Ramza into doing the exact thing that Ramza wanted to do and then handed him Thunder God Cid.
      The entire point of the true history of The War of The Lions (the thing Alazlam talks about from the start) was that Delita and Ramza were the _two_ heroes, not that Delita wasn't one.
      Ramza didn't get credit because the church wrote him out of history to cover their asses and Delita wasn't stupid enough to start a new war after ending the old one just so his friend (who was either dead or in another country, didn't care about fame and didn't want war) could have some fame.
      Ramza stopped the Lucavi, a faction that appeared during the war and took advantage of it.
      Delita brought down the corrupt nobles and corrupt church members that started the damn war and caused tragedies like the Death Corps..

    • @HateTaxesWASt

    My favorite RPG of all time? Final Fantasy 4. I'm not going to claim it's the best, because I'm sure there's lots of objective measures you can use to point out it wasn't. But it came at just the right time, and really showed me what a JRPG could be.
    Every character in that game just spoke to me on a deep level. They all have those moments that are sered into my normally totally dysfunctional, useless mind. It was the first time I really ran into a story in general that kind of was "Adult" in how it treated its subject matter. And I don't mean Adult as in "the Ratings board that didn't exist at the time would have marked it Mature", but I mean in that it didn't dumb things down or talk down to the player. The themes in it were deep and compelling to me. Cecil starting off knowing he's done wrong in the world, but unwilling to betray his father figure in the King. Kain being split for wanting the love of those who overlook him in that same king and Rosa, and his own bond to Cecil. Rosa's kind, nurturing nature combined with her willingness to drop someone if need be. Rydia's journey from a traumatized, terrified little girl into this forlorn, sad woman who knows that she can never truly have what she desires, and putting her own desires aside so others might be happy instead. Edward's grappling with his own cowardice and his carefree, vice filled, spoony ways, and realizing his own nobility that he never thought he had. Edge's journey from brash, cocky, headstrong devil may care rogue to a calmer, more mature adult who recognizes the stakes and impact of his actions.
    And so many other little bits.
    To me, it was that game. You know how most people mention relatively recent games for their realization that a video game could be a work of art. Like Bioshock: Infinite and the like? For me, that was the game, Final Fantasy II (Well, it was marked II on my cartridge at the time). When it took something that even for RPGs hadn't been deeper than "There's a bad guy, kill it, loot it, buy stuff!" and told this deeper, engaging story. Where even with minimalistic sprites and simple little crushed down tunes could evoke some powerful emotions and deep characterization for me.
    It cemented the JRPG as one of my favorite genres, which continues to this day. And is a game that I've bought nearly every release version for (Never did get a copy of it on the DS), and will still go back and play them.
    To the point where I even quibble with myself a little over the impact that various translations across releases have. For example in the SNES the King gives Cecil a "GIFT" to bring to the Valley of Mist. Which makes the sudden death and burnination have not just a bigger surprise impact on you as a player, but also you can see how it is the last straw for Cecil. Where he was bringing something that could have conceivably been a peaceful token, and proved he was still loyal to the King despite his complaints about slaughtering villagers, to suddenly slaughtering villagers again, and the shock of it making him rescue Rydia. A War Orphan just like Cecil and Kain were in Baron.
    To the later translations where they point out that it is a Bomb Ring that you're taking to the Valley of Mist. Which is a wholly different connotation to the mission. There's no thinking that it might be peaceful. It is unquestionably going to be a slaughter of dropping this down in the middle of a village. You know it, Kain knows it, Cecil should definitely know it. And he's willing to do it. Playing up the Loyalty to the King, as well as his own cowardice as he mentions the night before to Rosa. Being unwilling to stand up against what he knows is wrong. And we can presume it's probably his own past as that War Orphan, probably having seen his own family burned down by mages, that makes him snap and decide to save Rydia much like the King had saved him as a child. Deciding what is right and that his loyalty was to the deeds and memories of the past instead of the current orders of the King.

    I remember when my brothers and I first tried playing this, we thought it was damn hard. Most games we had played beforehand don't really use the bumpers on the controller and when placing units in FFT it does not automatically switch to the next available unit... Long story short, we were stuck fighting the first battle with just Ramza and Delita over and over. Eventually all 3 of us eventually beat the first battle, only to be hard-stuck saving Algus... that idiot wouldn't just run away! When we finally figured out you could place more than 2 units... well... the game is now in my top 10 ever.

      Same sort of thing happened to me when my Mum bought me Resident Evil 2 a month after it launched in 1998. It was Friday in the 5th Grade, and I could have a friend stay the night. It must have taken us around 90 minutes to understand tank controls (hadn't played RE1 yet)... After we got the controls down, we made it to the sewers in like three hours. We probably died 100 times!

    As an avid fan of Final Fantasy Tactics (via the iOS port) there are a few things Jirard and Jared missed:
    - Luso and Balthier from Final Fantast Tactics A2 and XII respectively can join your party in the PSP remake, though much like Cloud they play a cameo role
    - The PSP remake also has six additional battles in the story, two of which allow you to play as Delita
    - There is co-op play in the PSP version, though it's absent in the original and iOS port
    - Although there's A LOT of guest characters you recruit, I'm suprised there wasn't any mention of who Agris
    SPOILER ALERT region
    - Delita doesn't die after being stabbed as the Durai Papers mentioned that he continued to rule Ivalice
    - Some of the guest characters like Argath never join your party and a majority of them are eventually killed (this game is truly the Final Fantasy version of Game of Thrones)
    - We never actually learn how AWFUL the second battle against Gaffgarion is in this video, it's REALLY AWFUL

    • @leoryff979

      I was about to say the same thing lol. Delita doesn't die! He tanks that knife stab like a boss and rules Ivalice to prosperity, like a good king should. Ovelia dies, though, but she stopped being relevant from pretty much the first quarter of the game onwards.

    • @saltyk9869
      @saltyk9869 Před 7 lety +4

      ~Luso and Balthier are not in the original game. They were added into the PSP (and iOS) version.
      ~Those additional battles and co-op play are in the PSP version, not the original. This is the original.
      ~They did mention Agrias. She's the Holy Knight they mentioned.
      ~The second battle with Gaffgarion isn't that bad. Not only can you break him by stealing (or breaking) his sword, but you can open up the gate to allow your party to meet up and work together. You should also steal his sword in the first battle. It's a blood sword and makes the second battle much easier if equipped to Ramza.

    Final Fantasy Tactics is one of my top three favorite games of all time. The other two being Megaman X (First game I ever played), and Majora's Mask, for telling side stories to me through dialog and environment details, but not necessarily telling me what's going on.
    Final Fantasy Tactics story taught me so much when I was young. Starting off as an seemingly innocent adventure with Ramza, Delita, talking about what every other game talked about, hope and doing the right thing. But after the end of chapter 1, it was the first time something like that happened, right in front of the character I was controlling. Everything from the line engraved in my mind "I dropped everything, and I ran away." to Delita seeking power made sense to me. This happy cartoony world just turned dark so quickly. So much of this game was just not black and white, no two sides of a coin is truly evil.
    Delita's power seeking rampage made sense, not only did it give him a sense of revenge, but it would put him in control, he would have the power to stop things like that from happening. Perfectly contrast Ramza, who decided to stick to his guns and fight for what he knew was right.
    "Ramza, what did you find?.... I......"
    He found peace.

      Tbh, Fire Emblem is easy mode in comparison, there's a lot more mechanics involved in Tactics and positionning is more important. If you like a game that will either make you think hard or grind hard, this is a really good one.

    • @mathieucouture6546
      @mathieucouture6546 Před 7 lety

      Craig Morrison Well, in Fire Emblem you have weapons and magic triangles plus bows>fliers. Add to that the critical hits that become OP as hell end game, you can breeze through a FE game if you know what you are doing. Of course, hard mode is always there for you if you need more challenge, but you have to expect that from a game where grinding isn't as abusable as in a FF game. Max level in FE is 20+20 (promotion) while max level in FFT is 99+whatever bonuses your job level gives you. Of course, if you grind that much in FFT, you'll be in cakewalk mode anyway :P. Also, perma-death on units in FE while you can rez units if you're fast enough in FFT, the game that dicks you the most will usually give you a freebie to compensate.
      Note that I'm talking about these 2 games from memory after not playing them for like 7+ years.

    Yo. Great vid, guys. It's great to see you complete my personal favorite game.
    I have to wonder, have you heard of the Straight Character Challenge, aka the single job run? The idea is that you take Ramza and four generic characters through the entire game, only one class, and only using abilities from that class. No messing with Move: Find Item, Poaching, or Brave/Faith shifting unless it's part of your class.
    I know it's not a proper completion thing, but I strongly recommend giving at least one run a try in your spare time. The replay value, the challenge, and the variety in styles are what transformed this from just a fun RPG into a beloved gem that I'll be playing for years and years to come.

    You know, the best way to level JP is to start a battle, kill all but one enemy, surround the enemy, heal up as best you can (including healing that enemy to full, then turn everyone into frogs.
    Why, you ask? Simple. Turn on AI at that point, then go get some sleep, make dinner, shower, watch a movie, play another game, whatever! frogs that auto attack will do only 1 damage. If everyone's HP starts at max, it will take forever for the battle to end, BUT, each hit will give full JP for an attack. Once the frogs have the max JP needed to spend on the job they are in, the 5th player (who you conveniently used the AI to turn chicken and run) can now come in, slaughter the last enemy, finish the battle, then you can swap jobs and do it all over again!

    I believe Cloud gives a hint about where the Materia Blade is, he says something about the top of a volcano so that's your clue

    Only one unlockable character worth getting?
    Reis stats were the highest if you leveled her in her base job (ps1 version, Onion Knight was best if all jobs were mastered.) With a natural dual wield built in to her base class her normally weak attack quickly became frighteningly powerful. Give her the monk skills and her attack power starts to become terrifying. With armor equipped her HP was maxed, not using the secret armors given...just shop things. In the event of fighting monsters her breath attacks gave an elemental, and to an extent ranged, advantage dealing out even more punishment behind that massive HP pool. Holy breath was mostly useless, but every once in a while you could use it near tiles that it would cancel itself out, limiting it to 1-3 trigger areas making it worth the usage, though admittedly it was usually better to take the CP boost and wait instead of using holy breath...Even still.
    Beowulf being of really high HP, able to inflict statuses at a higher success rate than Oracle, and having naturally high magic attack made him a force to be feared if you gave him math skill. You could not only faith people and increase the healing done/damage done/success rate of all his skills extremely easily, but also do the opposite if you wanted to use him offensively and nulify your party to magic with Doubt. Give this guy some robes you get from deep dungeon and either the Excalibur for autohaste or runeblade for more magic attack and you're looking at a guy putting out way too much damage in way too little time on every target that needs it, especially if you gave him the magic attack boost from Wizard.
    WHY DID YOU NOT USE THESE TWO? Compared to them Cloud was crap, his charge times were ridiculous meaning you NEEDED to use your support slot for Quick Cast from time mage.

      I'd use Reis over Cloud any day. My main 5 (not including Orlandu) were Reis, Worker 8, Ramza (as a Samurai with monk skills and 2 swords and counter), a Summoner with Priest secondary, and a Lancer with monk skills. I really did not like Malak or Rafa.

      Beowulf was the guy that made Oracles irrelevant.
      Friggin' Oracles.

      ElliotKeaton Oracles and Red Chocobos.

      I used Ramza with his standard Guts so I could increase attack power as I moved with Monk secondary, usually split damage but sometimes Auto-Potion. Reis with her base class for those insane stats and Samurai secondary for massive support abilities, Critical restore since her massive HP pool meant her critical range was pretty high. Beowulf with Math Skill, his petrify rate was pretty intense, essentially a 1 hit kill, and Split Damage so as to not make Shock useless but not make him suicidal, Orlandu with Jump for added range and auto-raise for a counter, and Worker 8 for immunity to magic meaning Beuwulf wouldn't hurt him with math skill. Everyone had teleport for movement, if you understood how it worked it was easy to exploit.

      My most successful party consisted of:
      1. Ramza - Time Mage with Calculator skill
      2. Random...same as Ramza
      3. ^
      4. ^
      5. ^
      All with complete mastery of all spells that can be utilized with Math Skill.
      3/4 of the battles in the game can be destroyed by a single casting of Math Skill - Holy as performed by a Black Mage with Magic Attack+

    I finally give this game a shoot and although I'm only 2 chapters in. This game is amazing. My favorite is when you miss an attack on a chocobo, it literally dab your attack. That caught me off guard and had me lmao. Also the guest character are so goddamn op. I especially like mustadio + 2 dragoons combo (My ramza is one of them) and literally stomp my enemy to death. Best class imo is dragoon. A bit of bias since I like Kain but man, dragoon are really powerful. Not to mention they also have an ability that cast reraise meaning if they get k.o, they just stand back up. Monks are also amazing. Man I love this game

    Both of you are hilarious on your own, but with your powers combined I lose my mind. More collab videos please.
