    Final Fantasy Tactics holds a special place in the heart of many gamers due to how different it was from everything that had come before.
    Originally conceived by Hironobu Sakaguchi while he was working on Final Fantasy VI, his vision of Final Fantasy Tactics was transformed by Yasumi Matsuno, who had just joined from Quest having completed Tactics Ogre.
    Together with Hiroyuki Itou, Matsuno would go on to craft a fantastical new world called Ivalice and they would profoundly challenge what it meant to be a "Final Fantasy" game..

    I've always defended FFVI and FFVII because they were the first ones I took on but FFT being the underrated gem it is... I believe this is the greatest story ever told. (At least in FF Lore, close call with FFVI). Not only does the main antagonist is never really revealed as the antagonist, the writers came as close as possible to achieving a 'real' outcome of the things that transpired. (Ramza being the heretic, Delita being the hero of the story).
    I'm glad to see that it's 2019 and people are still talking about it.

      Final Fantasy 7 is the best and im the biggest fan of tactics there is. I have replayed it 4 times now its a masterpiece. But dont let that get in the way of final fantasy 7s diamond storyline it just can't be beaten no point in trying.

    • @rodrigovalenzuela5772
      @rodrigovalenzuela5772 Před 4 lety +3

      @@michialphelps2339 That's to be decided, what I believe Tactics excels far more than FF7 is the complexity yet digestible storyline that does not require prequels nor follow ups. Everyone(or at least almost everyone) from the main characters gets development and a proper closure. Dont get me wrong, I LOVE FF7 with all my heart and will be forever my favorite game of all time but a similar point can be made for FFIV. I'm just hoping they don't screw the remake up, I'm still wondering how developers are going to render the Don Corneo part of the story hahahaha

    • @SeventhheavenDK
      @SeventhheavenDK Před 4 lety

      @@rodrigovalenzuela5772 . FFT is my favorite FF, FF7 a close second. But I do not agree in something you posted. FF7 doesnt need prequels nor follow ups, Square just wanted to milk the franchise, but FF7 by itself pretty much stands on its own without the need of a spin off.
      How can you say that FFT excels in character development more than FF7 when the only characters who get development at all are Ramza and Delita, no one else.

    • @rodrigovalenzuela5772
      @rodrigovalenzuela5772 Před 4 lety +1

      @@SeventhheavenDK
      My point was that it's not as easily digestible as FFT, a lot of the turks story and cloud's/zack's past along with the cetras/ancients background required prequels for an appropriate closure, albeit I'll concede that to you, you might not need prequels or sequels to 'close' the book but as far as Character development... Ovelia? Mustadio? Agrias? Zalbag?Wiegraf?Rapha? Heck even Reis and Beowulf who're not main characters get a quick side development. They all evolved throughout the story in one way or another. And now that you mention, the story may revolve around Ramza but it's not focused towards him but rather the story of Ivalice and the war within classes.
      In the end FFT portrays a rather more realistic story than FFVII that had some ex machina moments(cough gas chamber cough)....

    • @rodrigovalenzuela5772
      @rodrigovalenzuela5772 Před 4 lety

      @@SeventhheavenDK I'm glad to know there's other people as passionate about FF in general. What are you most excited about in the remake?
      One thing i'd like to add is that FFVII will always take the point of morale and the lessons learned.
      throughout the entire gameplay you learn to rely on your friends and not only that, mother earth. To take care of it, while...lets face it..FFT ends quite grim.

Instead, the main focus is on what actually makes this game such a masterpiece: the developers behind it. I played FFT when it was new and rather than replay the game (although it’s tempting), I just like to revisit with videos like this. It’s fascinating to hear how this game was developed and just to think if any of the team somehow doesn’t end up at Square, it’s not the same game and perhaps it never even gets made. Thank you Game Gods.

    Thank you for this. This game was one that deviated from the tradition and for me at first I hated that. My cousin had the game and I remember watching one day and being immediately captivated by the strategy and replay ability. Each fight could be a sort of boss fight, enemies leveled up with you, you could level up and grind and learn skills and change classes and be whatever you wanted. Match all the skills you wanted to be all powerful for the upcoming boss fights. There was so much you could do! The story was so engrossing, as was the music. I remember getting chills during some of the boss fights and turning the volume up on the TV to engross myself into the fight even more. I even had the soundtrack. This game left a huge impression upon me. It's too bad they didn't make sequels with the same characters and story line. Thank you for the video!

    I bought this game on a whim back in 98 at a Service Merchandise for $19.99. I saw a Final Fantasy name with SquareSoft on the cover so I thought it might be ok. Looked really cool on the case. Never looked back. This is in my top 5 games of all time. Definitely one I can pick up at anytime and play for a few hours. I have the original PS1 version as well as the PSP version. I am hoping with all the remake/refreshes happening in games right now that this one might get a PS4 re-release. Fantastic game!

    One of the best stories ever told in a videogame. I can remember when I was a kid and FF7 and Tactics released, I bought both games at Costco that year. I BEGGED my parents if I could have two games that year instead of one cuz I just couldn't limit myself to just picking one of them. And as much as I LOVED (and love) FF7, I always found myself coming back to FFT. Even though the narrative was really mature for a kid my age at that time, and I couldn't understand everything that was happening, it still drew me in. (and the great character portraits and chibi animations didn't hurt either) I had to know how one relationship would go, how that would change a character's WHY, and in turn how that effected the direction of the war, and how things ended for that character

    I absolutely love FFT. I remember when it came out and a friend wanted it. So I found a guy online and he sold me his copy and I gave it to my friend. For those from the early years of the internet you might remember two guys named Adam Page and Adam Corn of 'Soundtrack Central' who were devoting much of their time on their respective sites, also knew each other, getting fans acquainted with video game music. I used to talk Page and Corn through the early years of e-mail. Then I was talking with Corn a lot about VGs, and he sold his copy of FFT to me for $30. He did later go on to create a storefront to sell soundtracks. This was a golden era for fans starting with FF to really get into buying VG soundtracks. Now things are so much easier. How things have changed.
    I would sit in and watch my friend and his brother play and I felt a little intimidated mainly because I had never put my hand to a tactical sim type RPG. When I finally sat in again and actually watched the game in action I was really entralled by the amount of depth put into this game. I would say that FFT is definitely one of Square's biggest successes outside of FF. Considering that it was coming in on the tail success of FF7 and Square was pretty borrowing many ideas to slap FF on it. Bringing in Yasumi Matsuno from Ogre Batte, Tactics Ogre to create a tactical sim with that will not only use the FF brand but utilize the FF job system into the gameplay... it was a match made in happen. People had their doubts, because sure it wasn't typical FF, but the degree of story development was amazing. Everything flowed together like a beautiful pot of soup. Add in Akihiko Yoshida's art and Hitoshi Sakimoto's score... and your taste buds were satisfied. Many consider this Sakimoto's best compositions during the early years of Square. And still is. I'm a big fan of Sakimoto and have collected a good deal of his music, but I still consider FFT his best work. This video helped me refresh my memory with the story. I finally broke down and played the game and realized it wasn't as scary as I thought.
    The story was really a mature story. And that's what kind of sets Matsuno apart from Sakaguchi, or Kitase, or anybody else. I never really how involved he could get on creating a world, characters. FFT set the foundation for a whole separate universe for Square. But it really wasn't the FF they knew because FF didn't have a name. Now Square is willing to adopt having different branches. Seiken the Mana series WAS a different take using FF's name before it got spun off into it's franchise. It was FF Adventure, that was what was included in the subheading, it's full title Seiken: FF Adventure. By the time the 2nd installment came around and called it Seiken Densetsu 2, they just moved it into a different part of the franchise and added different monsters to separate it from the FF brand.
    Would I want to see this redone? I don't know how this would work today being upgraded in a realistic fashion. It could work, but the sprites working with the tactical element for that time worked together perfectly. How would this translate if redone in a more upgraded realistic manner. If anything needs a proper remake it's Vagrant Story.

    I've been wanting to hear anything about FF Tactics being put out on ANY other platform than what it's on now. I want War of the Lions for switch (with no slowdown issues like the PSP had), and/or PC. I've been trying to force myself through Tactics Advance, since I grew to really dislike it when I first played it, but so far it isn't quite as awful as I remember it.
    But PLEASE square, just don't forget about Tactics for as long as you did about FF8.

      Honestly with Square sucking the collective dicks of FFVII fanboys on this remake they are doing for it I fear that Tactics will be forgotten for a long time. I mean FFVIII, while flawed, was a great game and we just now are getting a shitty remaster of it. However, that feels like a slap in the face when you consider the treatment that VII is getting. If they really cared about VIII they could make it into an amazing remake while doing away with the junction system that virtually everyone hates. In my opinion, VIII lends itself to an action/rpg more than VII, but that's just me.

    I remember reading about Final Fantasy Tactics in magazines in the late '90s. This was shortly after Final Fantasy VII introduced me to JRPG's and while riding that high, I wanted to absorb everything Final Fantasy. Sadly FFT never saw a release in Europe so I never did get the opportunity to play it back then. I'm not sure if I would have properly understood or appreciated it if I had gotten the chance though. A few years ago I managed to pick up a copy of FFT while on holiday in Canada and it's very satisfying to finally make good on that desire from so many years ago.
