Final Fantasy Tactics is a series of incredible tactical rpgs. I hear you - Tactics Ogre needs love too. One day. Until then we're looking at the game that really popularized tactics, a famous piece of software that morphed over decades into a bizarre new form. The Advance games are still FFT games, and while they're not the original, they hold up in surprising ways while dropping the ball in others.
Anyway I'm pretty sure someone's gonna lecture me on this or that, but you know, I went from FFTA enthusiast to FFT boomer in a few short years. Please don't watch my older video on it though, I'm begging you, PLEASE
The musician who remastered the FFTA OST is here - I used some tracks in that segment: • Final Fantasy Tactics ...
Patrons voted this one in - very grateful to do it!
If you'd like to help support the show, my page is here: www.patreon.com/kbash?fan_lan...
I also covered Gungnir, another game like FFT: • The Most UNDERRATED PS...
OH and I whined about the dearth of SRPG/TRPG stories here: • The War Story Genre
That's all for today - please play square games

The balance to the original FFT was actually designed that way because they wanted "every job to be viable" as part of the narrative of "It doesn't matter who you are or where you come from, everyone can be useful". So it resulted in easy OP builds and a cake endgame with minimal grinding necessary.

tbh by end game fights become much faster the problem with a2 that was never fixed trough all of fft is grinding is aways present though kbash describes the original with more love and care in reality grinding wise is still worse than a2 at least, i tried playing ffta and it felt even worse than the original bcz it was slow af
though i may be biased since the last time a played each was fft > ffta2 and finally much more recently ffta so it may be fresher in my memory and it's just my head playing tricks on me, but i'm pretty sure the grind in fft2a wasn't that bad bcz u could just nuke your enemies and farm all the ap needed while(coupled with easy fights) to grinding on the original it was by actions and even with the jp up you still needed an absurd amount of actions to farm a decent amoun of jp

It's a given. If you are to ask what is the best Final Fantasy you've played, the OG Final Fantasy Tactics/ War of The Lions is an answer that is not needed to be said *_because it is the best Final Fantasy_*
It's a Final Fantasy story that it is supposed to be. It's grounded first to the themes of human corruption, greed, and overzealous ambitions that cost blood and lives the crown plays in the game of thrones, but it then slowly shows a growing conspiracy of the church looking to take advantage of the crown using otherworldly and supernatural means to rule over Ivalice without being too obnoxious and on the nose about it. The motives of each side and faction are given time to grow, make the player follow the plot without being too lost, and basically having them advance the story with the crew you've build up to unravel the game of thrones and thwart the templar plot.
And yes. I too, made Ramza a Monk who can top Mount Everest with Ignore Elevation, and two-shot enemies with a good o'l 1-2 punch with the power and stats of an overpowered Monk.
FFTA was my childhood. It is one of the first games I Played when I first got my GBA, and FFTA2 is a game I explored in my early 20's after having been curious for it for too long. Each has its on story to tell. But the OG Tactics/WotL is forever etched in my heart as the game with the definitive 'Final Fantasy' story beat the franchise should have.

Final Fantasy Tactics is one of my favourite game's and im glad it's still being talked about. Two of my favourite quotes from it are both from Ramza, when at the start he says 'Honest work would see them die old in bed,yet they chose this early grave. Why persist in such folly?'. And my other favourite is 'I had lived my life the only way I knew how. But when the pillars of that life came crashing down,I did not stand and watch them fall. I turned, and walked away'.

So about FFTA2 story (which is my favorite FF game so…yay bias? But I’ll try to stay honest) :
I agree it’s not the amazing political battle through and through, but I really feel like your underrating it.
Adel for example, was not complaining about being at everything, but she felt different among the people she cared for, and although she didn’t care at first, being the only one saved while her family and friends all died from illness.
It’s also the whole point of her class, all blessed people that finished ostracized or isolated themselves because it felt wrong for them to be around other people not from pride or narcissism, but because of the basic human fear of not fitting into the group. Lennart pushes it by saying that being immortal fucking suck because all you do is outlive those you love.
This trait also puts a contrast between her and Illua (who’s also a blessed one) cause Illua developed a God complex unlike all the others. And - SPOILER - we know Adel’s personality is a facade and she’s actually pretty soft.
Speaking of Illua, she’s quite interesting too. Extremely narcissistic and sharing ties with each of the tree protas, yet she shows the opposite characteristics to every one of them.
Now you could say the main story isn’t all that great and I agree but want to add that the side stories are gems. From tales of corporate greed in a pharmaceutical setup with Mack Ocktor to the absolute randomness of the dude whose wife couldn’t cook anything but garbage. There’s also an introduction to the manipulation genuine charities could be victim of to achieve something malicious (There was a charity in Graszton that was unknowingly helping the black market of endangered species). There’s also the story of the guy who just worked as a delivery man, plagued by an inferiority complex towards his little sister and who wanted to be braver. So many little things that filled Ivalice with a charm I’ve rarely seen in other games beside Hollow Knight and Mystery Dungeon. It expands the main story, it completes it and just does a great job at it.
My favorite is the story of Florah, the activist WE KILLED because she didn’t find any other way to make people understand the importance of nature than to literally become an eco terrorist. To this day, I feel like this two part quest presents one of the most tragic tellings I’ve encountered.
In the end, everyone can appreciate a little bit of each one of those games. I here am just hoping FFTA2 gets a remake/remaster.

I grew up on FFTA, got FFTA2 as soon as it came out, and have still yet to play FFT itsself. I discovered your channel from your FFTA review, and I can't wait to hear someone talk about Luso; that said, I'm definitely fearful to hear my favorite games ripped to shreds, but they don't call you "KBash" for nothing.

"they don't call you "KBash" for nothing." lmfao wat. what does that even mean?? he calls _himself_ kbash. and it's not like he's super negative in his reviews; if anything, he rarely criticizes games very harshly. besides, it's FFT. it's one of the most beloved games ever, full stop.
this comment is old enough though that I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, people can change a lot in 2 years.

wow this is a pretty good video and I can’t argue with anything you said honestly. You did right by my favorite game of all time....I literally found FFT in a a discount bin in Walmart in maybe 2002ish?? I was 12 and saw the art and classes on the back and begged my mom to get it for me for $9.99 and I would pay her back when we got home from my secret savings. I found this strange game with so much replay value as I learned the classes and combinations and Items...we also didn’t have the internet so randomly unlocking new classes through chance leveling in other classes was very exciting and seeing what skills did in battle was amazing. I was a dumb 12 year old so I just wanted a party of Knights with black magic and it took me awhile to learn the other classes or like how good monks could be or or how good skills from certain classes are used in combination. this game was quirky and amazing and somehow so predictable but like you said felt very alive and rewarding to unlock something....this game can he broken or strange but in such great ways....absolutely my favorite game.... also to anyone reading this who will play the first time...use multiple saves....if the game automatically asks you to save then save in a new slot...
I’m talking the OG FFT not FFTA obviously.... FFTA is pretty meh

  • @Sylkis89
    @Sylkis89 Před měsícem +1

I remember LOVING FFT. And being so excited about a sequel. I launched FFTA. I saw a snow fight. WTF. I saw them talking about video games and Final Fantasy. WTF. I then saw the dog/lizard people. I threw the game out the window. (metaphorically of course, not literally)
I could never bring myself to actually give TA and TA2 a proper chance ever since, I know I should but still
But I remember the Polish elementary school age myself in the 90s with a local Playstation magazine with a translation of all the dialogues so I could know what they're saying. It's the only game I know that was so impactful that a magazine would publish not a walkthrough, but a TRANSLATION

Still currently watching through, but two things.
One, I'm glad someone took a second to talk about how *insanely* good the WotL script is. People must've worked on that for a while, because it's nothing like the original script.
Second thing, guess I'm gonna have to find me that mod. When I feel like playing, I actually run the mobile port of the game, which is unfortunately the best one. I'm hoping that one day Square-Enix will just port it to PC, but I'm not holding my breath...
But then again, they're doing Triangle Tactics and I think *all* of the mainline FF games are available on PC now, so it's not out of the question.

I remember getting Final Fantasy Tactics, I was still a newer gamer and a younger person - I didn't understand it well. Anyhow, I got stuck at the beginning in the first five areas, not knowing where to go. I thought, like many games I played before, it was just a level thing. I levelled my party to 45 before thinking "This game blows" and then started to going everywhere in an available space systematically to see if I'd forgotten something. Turns out I forgot to visit a location within a town for some critical story scene. I basically walked into the end game from there within two sittings. LOL This video makes me want to go back to the game (it still sits on my shelves). I didn't get the story back then, especially since I could walk through it after I screwed up.
