Shiao-Yin's speeches in parliament are always well written and have always struck a chord with the people. She bravely brings up points and suggestions that are reflective of what's on the ground. Thank you, Shiao-Yin for your constructive recommendations and reflections.
extremely well said!! if not beautifully said!! hats off this young nmp!! though delivery was a bit monotonous and a lil too rushed, the words are so powerful and delivered insightful truth one after another like a winning boxer with his jabs, leaving the listeners in awe not just for its common sense but also for the beautiful weaving of her points
I tear up seeing this because we hardly hear Parliamentary speeches that not only brings everyone's heads out of the clouds, but also unites Singaporeans towards a objective that's not antagonistic. Also, as a former student of SOT, this is nostalgic. Kudos.
Good speech. I think you thought is what we need in the younger generation singaporean. Fair and transparency are two things that kept coming up from NCMP who speak in this sitting.
Very refreshing to finally hear something genuine, critical and professional from Singapore's parliamentary session. Faith in our legislation restored a bit because of KSY.
Shiao-Yin,.....you are definitely NOT a "strawberry".....please consider to Enter the Political arena and the Party of your choice...AND stay the COURSE and be TRUE to yourself and the Country you and all Patriots so LOVE!!!
She speaks eloquently and truly, but can any of us reasonably expect there to be a 'neutral space' for deciding the fate of the Oxley road house, or an 'independent inquiry' into the powers of the PM and how they have been put to use (or misuse)? Such talk, while admirable, strikes me simply as too idealistic.
Too late as damage to the reputation of Singapore and the elected government of the day already done. It has also set a very bad example and a precedent. One can cause as much damage to the reputation and image of Singapore and the elected government of the day; and there is or that there will not be any consequence as the law will not take any form of action or prosecution. Either the law or the relevant Authority is weak or they are condoning it. It has already become a national issue and not just a private family feud.
My final comment is that do we respect the wish of the deceased or shall we give him a change to dispute any action against his wish. I am sure he should be given the right as the owner if that is possible. Let the deceased rest in peace, that is the last thing we can do for him with dignity.
I beg to differ on the point that PM must sue his siblings. It is not up to us but him to decide because the attacks were aimed at him. As for the 'mysterious' committee, it was just a misunderstanding. Now that they have understood the committee's role and expressed their wish at reconciliation, let's move on and focus solely on Mr LKY's second part of the Will as it carries more weight than the first part. In private and in public, Mr LKY had agreed to gazetting his house. He said that the house's foundation had to be strengthened due to the 'cracks on the wall' and then used as a private dwelling place for his children - which includes his daughter, eldest son and family (new owners) as well as future generations. Hence he bequeathed it to the son he trusted most to realise his wish. An executor must ensure that the deceased's wishes are properly executed. The merits of preservation are namely : a piece of concrete evidence where dreams were turned into reality; a unique architectural landmark to break the monotony of 'ivory towers' and Mr Lee KY's wish to let his children and descendants enjoy the house and maximise the land. Please respect both our founder's Will and the wishes and aspirations of our PM.
If I accused you as an NMP of bias or granting favours to your friends in your area of work, then do you think by such allegation, though without evidence, that the government should set up a committee of enquiry to investigate this allegation? If this is your way of solving allegations, then Singapore can just close shop now since there are millions of people who has some sort of distrust in the government. Good speech, but not well thought enough to merit my admiration. No need to discredit the contribution of the late LKY, instead, you should propose practical solutions and not trying to preach your moral values that may not be more superior than your audience.
Allan Er there was 0 discrediting of lky, instead, her whole speech was about proposing solutions to change the trajectory of politics. i don't know what you have just heard. And besides, accusing an NMP of bias is on a different scale as it does not affect society at large. these are different issues altogether.
Er ... Dear Allan. I think u should set up a committee of enquiry to investigate the exact point u r trying to make. If her speech is not well thought enough to merit your admiration, perhaps your wonderful comment is so well-thought that all of us as well as the committee of enquiry would admire it. We will also admire your practical solutions as well as your superior moral values.

Good speech. I think you thought is what we need in the younger generation singaporean. Fair and transparency are two things that kept coming up from NCMP who speak in this sitting.

YAS QUEEN
Lovely passion and turn of phrase. She should pin back her hair, it's really distracting.

👍
Michael Goh too long winded
Just like hearing a condensed version of a 10000-page essay of her inputs on multiple topics. She literally zoomed-in on too many things.
Good speak
Well done.
