YES. It’s sad that EA doesn’t want people to play the Sims 2 and erase one of the greatest games ever made. Maybe instead of feeling so threatened by their old game they should make their new games better.

I wish they would put it in the store for those who don't have it and can't/won't pirate it. I have my original games from years ago (as well as the patches, and I haven't had any issues), so I just use those. I doubt EA will ever release Sims 2. They just don't care enough. They want people to buy Sims 4 and 5, when that comes out. EA couldn't care less if fans want a game... they barely listen to the players about Sims 4; people expect too much when it comes to EA acting right.

The only reason I'd personally want them to sell it is because it'd be nice if they made it actually playable and less broken. I know there's fanmade patches for some issues but they're not perfect because the base game just wasn't made well. But the chances of anything actually getting fixed to that degree is near impossible, not only due to EA's laziness but also because those issues are embedded in the game structurally. So yeah, pirate away. You'll be getting the same product regardless

One thing that makes clear for me why sims 4 players will not like The Sims 2 that much is that sims 4 community keeps asking "themes" instead of fixes, look at all the fuzz about farms and bunk beds, Sims 2 has neither of those. The Sims 4 is so shallow that it needs "variety of gameplay" (become a famous vampire off the grid interior designer type of thing) when The Sims 2 doesn't have that much variety because you are meant* to play in longer with a more deep and complex gameplay, that's why I think they don't compete. True, I also believe that this may be one of the reasons they don't make The Sims 2 available. I read it once in the commentary of a youtuber here in Brazil (Malena010102), about 3 years ago when she was replaying the sims 2 on the channel , and someone complaining about the graphics, and saying that the sims 2 was bad, and that she should come back with The Sims 4. I remember it was a profile that looked like a kid. Which reminds me, when a big celebrity here in Brazil(Maísa), who had nothing to do with The Sims, was named ambassador for The Sims 4. Her audience is children and teenagers. What for sure was marketing for the new generation, after all, the old generation of The Sims, grew up and now works, studies, and doesn't have time to play as before. They now need to focus on the new audience that has time to play. I believe this is both the reason and what Pixu says from 7:40 onwards.

I think EA know that they won't get nearly as much profit from Sims 2 as from Sims 4, so they don't bother to fix it to work on Windows 10. But removing it from Origin and punishing people for pirating it or sharing the links is a shitty move.
When I was a kid living in a small town, we didn't have any place to buy a legal copy of the game. So my parents bought me a pirate disk (tbh, it was nicely done, so I thought it was legit). After that, when I was a teenager, I torrented the Ultimate Collection and didn't even bother to switch to the Origin version when I heard that it causes problems even in Windows 7. EA is a lazy, money hungry corp, and they know that while Sims 2 is loved, they're not gonna get as much money as they would releasing new Sims 4 packs every month for a bunch of dollars. And then there's the whole monster that is Sims 5 that's probably gonna come after like 8 years of more and more lackluster packs. It's all a shame and no one should feel bad for getting a game that isn't available for players legally. Buying it on ebay isn't magically more appropriate, the Sims team isn't getting money from it. With that in mind, I really dont think that it would be that hard for EA to update the ultimate collection if they actually wanted to do so. But in my opinion, they dont want to.
If EA never going to put in the work to update the game for windows users, maybe they could get into a partnership with Aspyr and make them build a sims 2 super collection that is compatiable with windows computers. That way somebody else can do the work for them, and the team can continue working on their precious sims 4(which i have personally not played in well over a year)

Now 7 year later i know that you just have to change a 2048 into a 4196 in some config file, a Fix that would have taken litterally 2 seconds to implement, but oh no, we can't milk ts2 after so many years so down the drain it goes

  • @krisd2518

It just frustrates me because I would be perfectly willing to pay for TS2 if they were to put it for sale up on Origin, but since there is literally no way for me to play it otherwise on my modern Windows 10 laptop without a disk drive, I had to go and pirate it like so many other people. I personally don't see anything morally wrong with pirating a game that you cannot otherwise legally acquire or play, it's not stealing from EA because there's no money there to steal.
And this is coming from a Simmer whose first experience with the main games *was* TS4. It wasn't until I bought TS3 that I realized how much 4 was missing, and I started to get disillusioned with 4. And then I kept hearing about just how good 2 is in comparison, and I just had to play it for myself... And they're right! TS2's graphics may be outdated, but they're certainly not bad, and the whole game just has this kind of charm and soul that 4 lacks. I still play 4 every now and then, but really just for CAS and BB. For deep gameplay and storytelling and an actually fun experience, I now only play 2 and 3.
It really is sad to see, from a newer player's perspective, just how far The Sims series has fallen as a whole. The older games were a labor of love, they started to get cash grabby with the S3Store, but 4 seems to be where they did a complete nosedive into full-blown corporate greed when it comes to The Sims. EA knows, and we all know, that TS4 could have easily been the best game in the franchise if they'd taken the time and care to make it so. But instead they rushed out a half-baked basegame that still is borderline unplayable 7 years later and really only serves as a vessel for the mountains of DLC they keep dumping on us month after month. And then their whole justification for cutting out things like Create-A-Style and the open world, making the game run better on lower-end machines, got thrown out the window with their whole "Legacy Mode" split, which made the whole game, Legacy Mode included, unplayable on my old laptop until I upgraded the RAM, when the game worked, albeit pretty slowly, before that.
The long and short of it is money, really. Where they think it's at and who they can squeeze the most of it from with the least amount of effort possible.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who is aware of EA saying “TS4 was released the way it was because of needing to run on lower end PCs and we don’t wanna repeat what we did with TS3” when TS3’s issue was just that the game was not optimized and they released towns with severe routing issues - not to mention, people forget TS3 came out in ‘09 when we had worse computer technology than we did in ‘14 lmao
I remember thinking that when they released the legacy version and stopped supporting 32-bit computers and kept adding content to the game where even 64-bit/mid end computers were having issues along the ever increasing simulation lag, “Wow… they really lied lol”. And this was around the same time I discovered that TS4 was gonna be released in 2012-13 as a multiplayer game (with an old trailer too). My theory is it was scratched after the failure of Sim City Online and they only had a short amount of time to release something decent.
I just don’t get why EA lies and then puts that responsibility on the Devs lol It kind of pisses me off that the company and it’s higher ups take no blame OR AT LEAST have the devs communicate some truthful transparency… like I will go to my grave fully believing Journey to Batuu, a non-integrated pack, was NOT completely Guru Lindsay’s idea… what Star Wars-Sims Hybrid fan creates a game where the aliens aren’t even occult aliens in the game?? and how hard is it to say, “Sorry we released the base game how it was because our plan was to go multiplayer but then we reneged on the decision and had to release what we could, but will be updating the base game over the years to have a better experience”??? I swear their management team is the worst.

I never got to play sims 2 because I was too young and my parents were strict with video games (barbie was their limit for example).
so now I get to experience it for the first time. I just downloaded it recently.
I’ve been playing for 5 days now and haven’t even had to add mods to enjoy it. I’m in shock how much is in this game. SO MUCH MORE.
sims 4 was my FIRST sims game so I had no expectation until I started watching youtube videos about reviews and reactions to things. I had already spent hundreds on expansions and kept feeling like something was missing. every time I saw comparisons to sims 2&3 I was just like wow I really need to play those.
    I’m now addicted to ts2.
ts4 seems like a dollhouse now compared to this one that actually has life and stories.

I grew up playing the Gamecube version of Sims 1, and the Sims 2 was my introduction to PC Sims. I tried Sims 3 and didn't care for it, and I don't like The Sims 4 either, so I went back to Sims 2 last year. As someone that plays on a laptop that doesn't have a CD/DVD drive, I would love to be able to download digital copies of the Sims 2 games/packs I purchased so I don't have to attach an external CD drive to my laptop every time I play.
From a business perspective it makes no sense why they won't allow people to buy TS2 on Origin. They need to come to terms that some of us tried their newer games and it wasn't their cup of tea, so whether they release TS2 on Origin has nothing to do with whether we continue buying packs for TS4. I uninstalled the Sims 4 months ago because I don't have time to be waiting for 10-15 minute loading screens for some lame gameplay and a very incomplete catalog of items. The game is already what it is and it's not like they would have to continue to fix bugs for TS2, so they could literally just be making free money without having to do more work. They also could use the data from Origin purchases to figure out what their market values most. (For example, now that we have 4 generations of Sims, see if people are enjoying TS2 Pets or TS3 Pets more than TS4 Pets, and bring some of those features back for TS5.)

I suppose it might have been that your video might have been one of the more popular ones?
If they really wanted to, I think they could make money off of it - seriously, it is a great, *finished* game where they’d only need to fix it and not even add any new content. As for customer support… it’s EA, it’s not like they need to provide *good* customer support… they could probably get away with one person in part-time who also deals with the other Sims games.
Not only would a lot of people who are interested in getting the game buy it, but they could also get probably quite a bit of those who downloaded it via semi-legal-ish-y means to buy it. They could even attempt their limited time edition/only literally bought edition thingy again and add some really minor features like a sims 2-style bunkbed reskin or a couple of 4t2 converted cas pieces alongside their fixes if they really wanted to. tbf, fixing broken face templates and hair, adding unreleased hairs from the game code or w/ever would probably be enough. Add the patches and voilà - almost free money.
A lot of people do not have Mac devices - and a lot of important (subjectively speaking) packs are not available for it. I held off from getting TS2 from the internet for a long time because I felt uncomfortable with the idea of piracy and its dangers - I bet a lot of people are or were like that. Isn’t withholding a popular title from the market in a way pushing consumers into piracy? And when someone crosses that border once, might it not be easier to do so again? Even with other games? Okay, thinking EA’s actions are bad for the videogame industry in that regard might be leaving a but out of the window tbh
I don’t think EA owes us an explanation from a standpoint of them being obliged to, but them being transparent would be nice. It is hard to empathize with them if they don’t tell us what and why.
I am sad that your video got take down - but I am glad that I found your channel through it :-)

I got my copy of the Sims 2 Ultimate Collection way back in 2014 (release date), and at that time, I finally got the chance to play with all expansion packs and stuff packs at once! Woohoo! Before, I just owned The Sims 2 base game and The Sims 2 Best of Business collection pack. The Sims 2 was my favorite go-to game for a long time, but when I upgraded the Sims 3 by buying the expansion packs and stuff packs and even Store content, I gradually switched to the Sims 3.
The main problem that I have personally with the Sims 4 is the lack of customization and inflexibility, and I think that has to do with the highly limiting core game engine.

I absolutely agree with people in the comments (and in other videos I've watched on this topic) that EA knows that a good chunk of people still love the Sims 2, and are worried that if they continued support for the game as well as put it back on Origin patched for Windows 10+ (and either let Aspyr port the remaining packs for the Sims 2 Super Collection for Macs on the App Store, or did it themselves through Origin) that those people would be less likely to spend money on the Sims 4.
Surprise surprise EA, I'm ALREADY not planning on spending any more money on the Sims 4! I regret what money I have spent for the most part actually (once I did the math I realized that even buying things on sale I've collectively spent over 500 U.S. dollars) but once Sims 3 started getting buggy on Windows and when they removed Sims 2 off Origin (and Sims 2 didn't run on Windows 10) it was my only Sims option until I bought the Sims 2 Super Collection for Mac last year.

It's not like going through a few files to update them to work on Windows 10, it's an overhaul of an outdated system and the possibility of having to write new programs. So on that end, it would be work for them to get it to function on Windows 10 and I don't want to downplay the fact that it could be quite difficult. I know I have personally said "just leave it, people won't care if it's not perfect" to small things that looked minor but would take me a couple hours of programming to polish. So yes, there's work involved and EA seems stretched with the Sims 4 packs. They also might be burned out from Sims 3, which required a lot of updates and bug fixes (and still has issues).
Now, Sims 3 is my favorite game in the series because I like story progression, so I'm not too fussed about Sims 2 (sorry, I know I'm on the wrong channel) but I actually did decide to grab it and I got it working well enough to play for about an hour before it crashes on me. It was exhausting to do on my own and when I got into it, I... was a bit disappointed. Yeah, I know, personal opinion, but the needs decayed really fast, the skills were limited to categories instead of skills relating to activities, there was no mood system, and I got opportunities every day for school/work which screwed with my Sims' lives. There literally weren't enough hours in a day to do everything they needed. Looking at the attention spans of people who are probably playing Sims 4, this would be incredibly frustrating. Heck, I have ADHD and found it frustrating because I was so used to Sims 3 controls. The Sims 2 community is very passionate but they're not exactly a huge chunk of EA's fanbase and a lot of the people who love Sims 2 also love Sims 3. Sims 2 has a lot of clunky game design that was smoothed out in Sims 3, so I can kinda get why they feel like Sims 3 is an adequate replacement for the people who want a similar experience. Speaking from a purely objective viewpoint, Sims 3 makes a ton of improvements to Sims 2's controls while retaining a lot of what makes Sims 2 so charming. I'm not justifying it, I'm just trying to see this from every angle.
Lastly, let's consider what going to the effort of releasing Sims 2 would entail: a lot of programming, training people to deal with Sims 2 bugs, and possibly dealing with copyright issues. This is all for what would very likely be an incredibly lucrative weekend and then sales tapering off when all of Sims 2's biggest fans have bought the game. Sims 4 fans probably won't buy it. You'll get a few people who want to buy it for the novelty or because they diehard Sims fans who want to play every game, but I don't know how Sims 3 is faring on Origin right now. It could very well be selling terribly now most people are moving to 4. Putting that possibility into account, I can understand why they wouldn't release Sims 2.
That all being said, I think they should. Yes, it's hard work, but the sales they'll make in those first few weeks almost certainly would be enough for a profit after paying people to work on it and I don't think people trained to assist with Sims 2 would be hired specifically for that game; more than likely they would just be people who know fixes for Sims 3 and 4 who are trained on Sims 2. Even though I see why they wouldn't do it, but I still think they should.

I have played sims since sims 1 and have sims 2 on disc, have had it for several years since I was child and still do, but discs are a bit outdated on newer hardware/PC.
Not only that but I only could ever get 1 expansion pack (Pets) for the game because I was a kid with no money. But I could play Sims 2 and that one expansion pack for days and nights in a row for years and I loved it so much. Played it all the way up until a few years after Sims 3 realsed. After I got fed up with Sims 4 I wanted to go back to 3 and 2 but it turned out I missed the only free giveaway of the complete collection and it was comepletely GONE literally no way of getting the game digitally or the expansion packs, without surfing through Ebay or "not buying it".
I've never "not bought" a game before in my life because I was scared of getting viruses. But for Sims 2 I did a bit of research and eventually aquired the full collection. When I got it to boot up, I straight up cried from the nostalgia of the music. Seriously though wtf is up with EA and Origin

This is still my favourite Sims game ever. I started with The Sims 1 when someone gave me a copy of their game. I loved it so much I bought all the discs, and later all the Sims 2 and 3 discs. Got the base Sims 4 on a discount. Not sure I'll be buying any packs for that.

Totally agree, with everything. Sims 2 is a great game and it still holds up on Windows 10, even if it can be a bit rough some times (glowing purple texture issue, random crashes, likely from not using full system memory, to name a couple). EA could make easy money if they made the game work well with Windows 10, and sell it for 20 bucks (all expansions and "stuff"). Easy.

i cant pirate the game with a good conscience, i’m scared but i’ve wanted to play the sims 2 for so long. i played it so much when i was younger, i’ve ended up going back to the sims 3 and haven’t touched 4 in maybe 3 months, ts3 is already a threat to the sims 4, i can’t see why they don’t want to rerelease the sims 2?

Eh, illegal doesn't necessarily mean immoral so I don't have a guilty conscience in downloading a game they won't let me purchase when I'd be more than happy to purchase it at full price. If I were to buy the discs secondhand, which is the only legal way to play it, they wouldn't get my money that way either. Pirating the Sims 2 is stealing from absolutely no one. They didn't miss out on a purchase from me either way.

I don’t like illegal stuff but I do not feel bad for having the sims game via the way she shows in a previous video of her because I had TONS of sims 2 games on my origin/EA account. Couple years ago I went to download the games again but on my new gaming PC. They were all removed from my account. EA said they can’t do anything about it unless I could be proof of purchase or any of the key codes which I lost over time. Wtf smh

I actually think that releasing the Sims 2 on origin - or what is now the new EA app would be the best thing EA could do. They are a multi million dollar corporation and all some of us are asking is for the Sims 2 to be made available. I would pay for it, I truly would, cos I love the Sims 2 so much. I think they are nervous, cos the Sims 2 is heaps better than Sims 4. They don’t want fans to defect over to the Sims 2 camp - a real possibility cos the game is superior to its later and poorer cousin…

for the people that do have old game CDs for the sims 2 with the CD keys inside, if you ask EA for the full copy of the sims 2, they will ask for you to provide atleast 1 CD key and they will give you the entire library of sims 2. Try it out, i did it years ago and i know people now that are still getting it this way. Mind you this is only if you have previously bought the games and have CD keys and your CDs no longer work or whatever other reason you may have.

  • @Kkffoo

Didn't seem ranty at all, very reasonable in fact. Why they don't want sims 2 on origin? It's really puzzling to me, none of the arguments seem to stack up, and I'm pretty sure that the parts of EA which interact with the public don't really know either.
I have noticed a very active group of younger sims 2 players appearing, maybe brought to the game during lockdown. Keep making your content, I am embarrassed to say that I forgot how much fun sims 2 is, and somehow convinced myself that I'd 'gone off sims' (thanks sims 4!)
New content shows potential players that the community is active, and that it is possible to get this game running on recent systems.

I agree 100%. Sims 2 is the Best!! I have tried repeatedly to enjoy Sims 3 and 4 but for me 3-4 are SUPER BORING! And not even close to as fun as the Sims 2. I am looking to get my old computer fixed so that I can play my favorite game again with all of its expansions. Currently I managed to get the Sims 2 Base game to work on my laptop but expansions won’t load.
EA BRING BACK THE SIMS 2. !!

I'm not a game developer as well, but if some players from the Internet could create programs to make the game work, why EA couldn't? That wouldn't take much time and effort. But people would buy this game. If we are talking from an "EA-is-a-money-grabbing-corporation" perspective, EA could earn so much $$ opening Sims 2 sales again. A good question is: would the situation be the same if the sims 4 was a successful game? There are suggestions that EA is starting to work on the next game. So maybe they are worried already that the sims 5 will be as "successful" as the sims 4?)) I hope you can understand my thoughts, I can't English today as well :DD

I have the original Sims 2 disks, but it still would he convenient to have Sims 2 on Origin in case the disc breaks or doesn’t work anymore. Plus I don’t have the expansions so it would be great to have something I can get digitally on Origin instead of searching around for expansions that are either hard to come by or too expensive.

something i have personally encountered with the physical disc version of the sims 2, that i have not with the pirated version, is that loading literally anything in the game takes forever. even loading a single page of wallpapers took 3 - 5 minutes (on a windows 10 laptop from 2016. at the time i played it via the disc version, my laptop was only about a year old). on the same laptop in 2020, i played the pirated version and although it didnt load very quickly, it loads about 10x quicker than the disc version. so for me, even if i wanted to buy the game legally, it would not work. i really hope origin eventually starts selling the game again.

I followed your tutorial on it about 2 weeks ago lol I'm happy I got to it in time. But you mentioned something about the link being the patched version, does that mean that the game won't corrupt itself? Or should I still take precaution.

    • @Pixuou
      @Pixuou  Před 3 lety +3

it means all the stuff that was originally risky but was fixed in a patch released later (like the Ottomas family's babies having broken character files), is fixed in the ultimate collection (so, this version). (and that's not so much of an obvious thing when you install the EPs separately sadly). but that doesn't mean the game is entirely safe from corruption - you'll still need to take those regular precautions (not delete sims etc). so, a properly patched game helps start with less potential future corruption, but doesn't automatically prevent all sorts of corruption
