    In the area next to the steps where the multilevel planter is. Why don’t you make it into a sunken seating area. L shaped sofa and a water feature😊 would be somewhere lovely for Nadia to relax😊😊

    What a beautiful space! The garden has so much potential, but my worry is that you'll have to spend so much time taking care of it all that you won't have enough time to enjoy it. If it were me I'd create a few more spaces in the garden for people to sit and relax, read a book, meditate, or chat with a friend, using either slabs, decking, gravel or woodchip. And I'd get the big guys in to clear those spaces for you and get the bulk of the work done, so you an Nanny Di can concentrate on the planting /design of the wilder parts of the garden, and the more formal beds and pots.

    I'm so glad you're both back doing GFH!..I've missed it...The first thing that needs doing before even considering buying more plants or pots is tidying up all the dead leaves...That way you can see what needs doing better..Then remove all unwanted/ dead plants...Throughly remove all weeds & get Steve to dig up that tree stump with the thorns on!..😉 Put some weed & feed on the lawn but make sure to keep the dogs out of the garden for at least a few days in case it could be harmful for them!..I'll check with my gardener to make sure🤔 When all beds are cleared up..Don't just dump compost on top of the soil..Make sure to dig it in & mix it well, also get some manure as that will really help your existing plants flourish as well as the new additions...Also make a proper list of plants you want & draw up a plan of the garden so you can figure out where to put them..Saves the hassle & stress of moving stuff about!...Hope that helps...Sending you all much love & extra big brummie hugs😉🤘🖤🕊🇬🇧xxxxx🌾🌷🌹🌼🌸🌻🌱

    Welcome back to the garden, love seeing ye together, take good care of Nanny Di 💞💞🌝
    As ye weed, put down 2 to 3 layers of black weed block sheets, it cuts off sunlight so they die. You leave small slits for flowers/plants to pop through. You can cover the black sheets in lovely colour stone or use the tree chippings you're going to make, happy gardening 🐿 💞💞

    Love GFH!! :D If you need a buying fix Mark, order those rectangle planters and lots of compost. Def agree with others that you need to weed n cut back first. As our summers seem to be getting hotter I'm going to try and concentrate on plants that will cope with less water etc - just researching atm. Nanny Di looked glowing!! x

    I always clear my garden in the Fall... Since my roses were still blooming in late October, I began clearing a week or two before Thanksgiving. Climate change has altered how I garden quite dramatically. The unseasonably warmer temperatures have allowed for enjoying the beauty od my garden much longer than 10... even 20 years ago. It is wonderful but terribly frightening all at the same time.

    @Miss1Trisha Před 4 lety +15

    Definitely start with clearing, cutting back and weeding - otherwise as the weeks go by and the temperatures rise you will have so many more weeds to contend with! 😯 The areas that Stephen cleared could be done in a few days constant work, and then you will feel encouraged and revitalised by how clear the garden looks - which will encourage you to get stuck into the other areas. Good luck 👍🏻😁🌺🌸🌼🌻🌹

    Save all of your cardboard boxes,dig all your weeds up, plant what flowers,shrubs you want, then put cardboard along your borders,around your plants,making sure its not actually touching any plants, then put a layer of soil,compost or mulch on top of that. That will help stopping any weeds coming through & the cardboard over the next few yrs will turn into compost.

    • @brum64
      @brum64 Před 4 lety

      Forgot to say, water the cardboard while its down, then cover with compost or soil or both.

    You're not alone guys, we also have to face the aftermath of Winter. Where do all the weeds come from!!!! Roses are a real winner in our garden in the left hand border, in the right hand border we have a lovely array of shrubs, all varying shades of green, some flowering, some just foliage. You can intersperse with annuals for added colour which is what we do. Love Chi Chi in the background with Donald Trump, i think Toffee must be a Democrat that's why she's keeping her distance. xxx

    Yay it’s back!!! 🙌🏻😃💚
    You guys have so much space and potential for this year but get on top of those weeds as soon as poss, as the longer you leave them, the harder it’ll be and then mulch...Mark is right on that. I think once you have taken back control, got the new containers for the patio, this year is going to be a fun one in terms of creating beautiful beds and borders. If I still lived in a London I’d love to be a gardener for you. Myself and my 13 year old son will be tackling the garden where he lives with his dad this year which has got out of hand since we split up...he adores roses and we have loads of bare root ones to plant. Spring bulbs can be planted from September but if you’ve not done it yet, get them in before the end of this month. Tbh I still have some to plant myself. Hoping for some colder but drier weather to kill some things off and give us gardeners to a chance to clear deadwood and prune, weed etc in the lead up to the exciting season of Spring 😊 Btw, myself and my partner Tim are starting up a Collection of Echinacea, there are some beautiful new varieties in a range of colours and they can do very well in containers and are great for mid-late summer/early autumn colour.

  • @nickgrumpymanc2235
    @nickgrumpymanc2235 Před 4 lety +4

    Not a criticism but a helpful rant... Mark you need to get a garden fork and a spade, if I have to watch you and Nanny Di weeding with a hand fork again I will seriously lose my ####.
    The beds you have already need to be completely turned over (that's what the garden fork is for) anything apart from that rose bush and well established shrubs should be either composted, burnt, shredded or destroyed in an entertaining way. turning the soil over by at least one spit deep will also help to bury any weed seeds and help keep the bed tidier. Get some manure and dig that into the beds once you have cleared them, using potting compost at this stage is rather wasteful and expensive. If you don't know where to get some decent manure I volunteer in a childrens zoo and I am sure I can arrange for you to come play on our manure pile (Reindeer, Llama, pigs, goats and sheep to name a few)
    Then plant up with the many plants you have sitting in pots dying scattered around the patio.
    If it looks like a twig with maybe a bud on it....get rid of it, I know you like to give it a chance but you keep buying new stuff and that languishes on the patio because your spending time on pointless twigs when you have viable plants that you should be concentrating on. Rule of thumb, if it looks dead chances are it is BIN IT.
    Spring flowering bulbs should be planted October to December so if you want to have some Mark needs to go shopping now, or leave it this year and make a plan of the garden showing what comes up where and then plan a planting in the gaps.
    Now I am a family guest I feel more comfortable commenting, I love GFH but its a garden don't overthink it it should be pleasure not hell eventually
    Lots of love
    Nick x

    Carry the decking around to the other side of the house too, sunken l shaped seating in the front of the patio with a fire pit. Get steven in to cut and chip all the cuttings. You & nanny di weed & clear pots, sweep leaves etc. Deffo lay down mulch or matting to go round the plants in the beds, so you dont have to weed as much.
    Also i planted Pestemons in my garden last summer, and they were easy, beautiful & long lasting. 🌸

    Glad to have GFH back!! I went out this weekend and had a look at my back yard (which took all of 2 minutes) but I see I have loads to do because the damn weeds grow like mad! I'm still holding out hope (just a teeny tiny bit) that my Brussels sprouts might actually turn into Brussels sprouts. I planted from seed back in April... and they're still going. The "sprouts" that are there are more like spread leaves... so something's not right. I just can't bear to pull them out yet! Looks like you might need to get Stephen back out to clear your "kitchen garden" so you can concentrate on those other beds! Toffee & Chichi need their own show on your channel! You could turn the square tiered planter into a herb garden.

    So glad that green fingered hell is back. I do have an idea Mark why don't you make the front garden members only that would motivate you and Nadia to do the front garden and you get more people joining members-only group. Xx

    Get yourself some chickens. Move them around your garden to clear up each area, ready for planting, and Bob’s your uncle...you’ve got yourself a beautiful garden. Also, some lovely fresh eggs 🐓😘

    Once you have cleared all the weeds and replanted perhaps put bark wood chips on top . It definitely helps with weed control & looks nice too. X x

    Is it all of your channel that we’ll need to pay for? I love following GFH, will be so sad if we can’t follow your adventures without membership 😢

    This is better than a weekly tv show. Very relaxing. Please put some timelapse cameras in. Or overhead camera? Perhaps you should have more low maintenance areas. NB. You can train dogs easily only to poop in one area. You can soil it and then trough more soil ontop.

    I think you should get a proper gardener to landscape it for you and then you guys care for it from there on in, as every year it overwhelms you and you are never able to get to the bottom of it. Would be magical to see it transformed by a landscaper. x
