- We took an out-of date, almond colored bathtub and shower surround and painted it with the Dwil Tub and Tile paint kit to make it bright white and modern. This video is sponsored by Dwil and I was really impressed with the result I got using the Tub and Tile Paint kit compared to other products that I've used! MODERN BUILDS
Hi, My name is Mike Montgomery and I'm a MAKER; a designer, builder, and full-time content creator. Accessibility is my focus with Modern Builds, not simply accessibility of designs, but accessibility in materials, information, and projects themselves. I've focused on creating furniture and DIY projects that are simple enough that any beginner maker can accomplish, yet interesting enough that any expert might be inspired. Building and making is becoming less and less of an exclusive hobby and profession. My goal is to reduce that separation even further. - Jak na to + styl
Thanks for this great instructional video! We purchased x3. That’s a great discount.
When I checked out my friend's just reno'd bathroom, the tub was half full of water. When I asked her about it, she said the contractor did it to weigh down the tub, that way the caulk would be less likely to crack in the future (from the separation between the surround and the tub when it's full in the future). I noticed my landlord didn't do this when they recaulked my tub and it split/cracked almost immediately.
We just bought a small house, but with three (disgustingly tiled) bathrooms. This comes in so handy! Thanks a lot! This will make a world of difference.
Hi Mike, this is exactly what i was looking for. we just did a complete gut of our bathroom except for the jetted tub, and now it looks disgusting with its off white color. and thanks for the discount code. Hopefully for $42 we'll have a brand-new looking tub in a couple of weeks.
So happy I came across your video! We also live in Oklahoma and have a well that produces the same nasty discolored water that leaves everything it touches stained. We obviously don't drink it, but are forced to bathe in it. Our bath tub and shower are a witch to keep clean. Now I know I can, at least, use paint to get rid of the stains caused from the well water.
Looks so much better. Thank god for these products!
I'd be interested to see the long-term durability of this stuff.
We had our tub refinished (at great expense) by a contractor who specialized in tub refinishing and it only lasted about a year before it started scratching through and chipping.
It doesn't last. You can find long-term reviews of multiple brands of "tub and tile" paint on YT, everything starts chipping very quickly. It's just what happens with the constant exposure to water and humidity, especially when you're trying to coat materials like enamel or porcelain. You also can't touch up this type of paint once it starts chipping, so either the whole thing needs to be stripped and re-done, or the tub/surround needs to be replaced. This stuff is the absolute height of penny wise, pound foolish.
I’m trying to do this on my fifth wheel camper. I only use it during the summer when I have time off work and go camping. So the shower only gets used a couple times a year. Since most places offer showers. I’m cheap and would rather use thiers than mine since I’m already paying. Sorry not sorry. But yall think it would last more than a couple years for me?
I've heard that boat paint and primer works and lasts way better than this stuff does. I've seen updates and they still look great
Looks way better! We used some regular tile paint without a hardener once, didn't stand up to time well. Will you give us an update in about a year or so if the paint held up?
Scrolled though the comments: wow, a lot of negativity. To all those grumpy keyboard warriors: you don't have to watch Mike's videos!
You can put a filter at the inlet of water to the house to minimize “contaminated” water and prevent the staining on the tub.
Tub looking good.
Thanks for try that product. My bathtub and all the other stuff of my bathroom are brown!! They are almost 25 years old and are old fashioned (sorry about my English, I’m learning it). I’m thinking about trying to paint them white.
Iv been debating on what to get to paint mine. Thanks for the video I’ll give it a shot.
Always a good day when you post
Wow, that was such a drastic change I got a cramp in my hammy.
Big improvement
I wish I would have seen this before I spent a fortune getting my shower (and floor) cleaned, re-grouted, and caulked!
Turned out phenomenal!! Hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving!
EDIT: You gotta clean off that camera lens though. 😋😋
Nice. Good job
I would caulk first then paint over the caulk while painting the surround. Fill the tub with water before caulking.
aaww man, i was looking forward to "MIKE FIRST FLIIIIP" good job on painting the bath tho looks brand new
Yayy the music is back!
How was the Smell?? Great video!!
Nice informative video. QUESTION: do you you know if this paint can be used on decorative wall boards? My travel trailer’s tub and shower didn’t come with a tub surround. So I have to wipe it dry after every use. Do you know if I can use this to waterproof the walls around my tub? If not, is there something else you might recommend?
wow what a difference.
To bring your chrome back to shine. Use about a 1/4 cup vodka and 1/4 vinegar in a bowl and put enough baking soda to make a paste and use it to rub on your chrome.
Would vinegar and baking soda alone do the trick? Save $$ and/or drink the vodka
Great👌
How was to smell? Was it a strong product? I have used other kits that recommend a respirator
Hi there. 👋 I need your help finding the right type of paint for my bathroom. It's to paint over wooden surfaces which had old yellowed gloss I've already sanded down. Is there a water-based paint, for bathroom wooden surfaces which can withstand moisture exposure 💦 most recommended bathroom paints are designed for ceilings & walls 🤨
so i have bath tub plus sing counter how much paint should i need it
super pro
can you do an update after a year of use? i'll be intrested
I'm wondering if it could be sprayed on.
Now you have to paint the window too😁
Much better
Terrific work Mike! I am wondering it that Dwil Tub & Tile paint will work on a fiberglass bathroom tub/stall? 🤔🤔 P.S. Checked their website and it can be used on ceramic, porcelain, acrylic, fiberglass, hardwood and enamel. 👍👍
How long before you can use the shower? Also, what did you do to the tub so you wouldn’t slip?
Whats the best thing to clean the grout from hard water and scum without harming the finish?
Awesome build!!
If the previous paint is chipped do you use a regular sander or a paint stripper?
Depends on the state of the old paint and how well it was done. You could go with a full strip+sand which will get you longer lasting and more even results but takes way longer. You can also remove the loose paint and sand it followed by paint. This will be much quicker but can wear off faster if the previous coat is in bad shape or the original surface was not sanded prior to painting. You also really wanna degrease the old paint prior to sanding if you are painting over the old coat.
Can you pick other colors?
I'd love to see a video of this 2 years later :) Does it last?
My landlord wants to paint the shower surround instead of buying one. No tile just big piece of fiberglass this looks like it might work so I'm going to send him this video.
What about the grout? Did you just paint on top (newb question)
There is no grout. It is a sheet of plastic, stamped to look like tile.
Pro tip: clean off the lens before during the “after” shots
Pro tip, no

How many kits did you use?
In the video it says he use one kit.
Did anyone catch exactly how long between coats
No respirator or ventilation? Two part epoxies have nasty noxious fumes!
I love this video. It breaks down the steps and easily to understand.
you gotta clean your lens/sensor!!
Pro tip 2: Go easy on the filter! It's normal to darken the “before” photos, so the “after” looks even better, but to yellow the image... It loses all credibility.
Another 1-800-SUPERPRO tip: Clean your freakin' camera lens
Nice catch. Wonder if he'll be embarrassed and take down this advertisement pretendong to be a video

First video to not be sponsered by square space. Not that it is bad or anything but all of them are from square space.
That's a temp fix, won't last forever, you would ha e been better ripping it out, retiling Nd putting in an actual bath not leaving a dog tray!
cauLK
speak for yourself
How much did Dwill pay for this video?
I was like wait he mispronounced drill? Then I realized
The L is silent in caulk.
Bro please clean your camera lens
It's pronounced cock not calk.
I've noticed SO many Americans say CAULK instead of the proper Cauk pronunciation
@@amusementparkcarnivalvarie9268 Americans aren't very smart
Pro tip : Don't ever use it
Caulk the L is silent.
~ “REVIEW” how can u do that without comparing it to Other Products on the Market, ~ Or showing us how long it lasts... anything can look good for 8 Months....
