I think people don't realise is that he isn't comparing Arthur to rdr2 John, he comparing Arthur to john in 1911 during rdr1. And yeah John can't swim but Arthur was never an amazing swimmer anyway soooooo.

John in RD1 is marginally better than Arthur in RD2, seeing as John in RD1 is put into more situations than Arthur was in RD2 and fights a more government presence in the West, he also goes on a killing spree towards the Van der linde gang after he departures from them and killed most of them with the others still in exile or were just innocent. and since the group got far smaller and the government in the west got far larger, more assets could be spread to deal with each member, like Dutch and John who were the most prominent living members of the group in RD1, I also believe John had more time to experience combat due to many Mexicans underestimating him and their arrogance got them killed and began more fights.
I recently replayed rdr1 and John is smart as hell, no one out wits him, he’s always speaking facts, and he’s always pointing things out. Arthur is more of just go with the flow common sense type of smart while John is more deep and in critical thinking

So this may mean that John is better with stealth kills + even in 1899 he seems more cold blooded and calm than Arthur. Yeah i agree. But i think john is better with guns. His feats in rdr1 are just incomparable. Not only that but he hunts his old allies which were also some of the best. I think arthur is better at more things, drawing, reading, swimming, hand to hand combat etc. But john is better with guns. That's just my opinion though.
Thanks for the prompt op, this fight is one of the few where it can legit go either way. Arthur is definitely physically stronger, in one of his choking animation he lifts the person off of the ground. However when it comes to feats john has 1/4 of rdr2 and all of rdr 1 to himself, which is a lot. Personally I have no problem giving them a tie, besides having to choose a side is like having to choose between two of your brothers.

You dont know anything about guns. While aiming soldiers keep their other eye open so they can see their enviroment better and only one eye is used for aiming so accuracy goes to john

I think accuracy goes to arthur When John aims with guns in he has one eye closed but when arthur aims he holds both eyes open which is a more suphystocated way of aiming
So John practically has a better aim, because with a closed eye you have more precision as you focus on just one target, this allows you to hit specific points more easily
Many skilled gunsmen close one of their eyes for better aim. Doesn't make them any worse it just means they have a style for aim. Also John only closes his left eye when using rifles in rdr2 and epilogue, but in rdr1 he doesn't close his eyes at all when firing. Rdr1 was a beast and became just as good if not better than Arthur. John took down the whole of the Mexican army just for bill and Javier. That makes John a legend in my books

I disagree. Basically a half dead Arthur went to rob a train with the gang. Then He went to rescue Abigale and then he confronts Micah. The pinkerton arrives and he rushes up a mountain basically without lungs lol. He gets ambushed by micah and wins (if dutch wasn't there he'd ave turned and shot him). That seems a big feat to me.

RDR2 John < Arthur RDR1 John > Arthur I would say John became the better shootist during the few extra years he had after Arthur’s death. Not to mention that he was literally taught by Landon Ricketts later on in the game. And the man pretty much took down a damn army.

Listen, I love Arthur as much as the next guy. Hell, I would say I like him more than I like John- but come on.. John in his prime took down whole gangs and even took down the Mexican army just to get to Bill and Javier. John had been briefly trained by Landon Ricketts HIMSELF, which made his dead eye even better afterwards. I feel like everyone forgets just how insane John was in RDR1 simply because Arthur became their favorite after playing the second game. Arthur is still an amazing character, but in terms of feats? John definitely has him beat. RDR1 John>Arthur>RDR2 John.
In the mission “Paying a Social Call” if you send John to kill O’Driscoll, he strikes enemy with knife really fast and hard, and Arthur says like “Jesus Christ, John!”. So this may mean that John is better with stealth kills + even in 1899 he seems more cold blooded and calm than Arthur. So, in the end:

Thanks for the prompt op, this fight is one of the few where it can legit go either way. Arthur is definitely physically stronger, in one of his choking animation he lifts the person off of the ground. However when it comes to feats john has 1/4 of rdr2 and all of rdr 1 to himself, which is a lot. Personally I have no problem giving them a tie, besides having to choose a side is like having to choose between two of your brothers.

When John aims with guns in he has one eye closed but when arthur aims he holds both eyes open which is a more suphystocated way of aiming
So John practically has a better aim, because with a closed eye you have more precision as you focus on just one target, this allows you to hit specific points more easily
Many skilled gunsmen close one of their eyes for better aim. Doesn't make them any worse it just means they have a style for aim. Also John only closes his left eye when using rifles in rdr2 and epilogue, but in rdr1 he doesn't close his eyes at all when firing. Rdr1 was a beast and became just as good if not better than Arthur. John took down the whole of the Mexican army just for bill and Javier. That makes John a legend in my books
