    Something to consider for your produce for next year -- plant a "salsa" garden aka only what you'd put into a salsa: onion, tomato, garlic, pepper. It's nice to have like a go-to "recipe" for the food you're growing.

    I always use the farmers almanac for my region when I plant my veggies. It's online, free, and is literally hundreds of years old and tested by farmers, so it's never steered me wrong.
    If this helps, everything will die, so don't be worried about the placement too much. It'll die at the end of the season and the flowers will wilt, so you planting them wrong isn't the biggest deal.

    everything looks amazing!! my favorite flower to put in those long hanging baskets is wave petunias and calibrachoas! they will both spread and fill in the space and continue to bloom as long as you keep deadheading the spent blooms!

    Plants respond to vibrations so if you speak loving words or play classical music near them they will flourish

    The fuzz on the tomatoes is normal, it'll grow into roots so plant tomatoes deep and then remove the lower leaves so they don't get splashed when you're watering. Gardening takes practice but if I can do it so can you and I'm happy to report that I have not yet killed a plant this year 😉

    • @morganevelyncook
      @morganevelyncook  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Ohh I never would’ve guessed that about the fuzz so thank you for that tip! And yeah, just gonna keep practicing and hope for the best haha 🤞

      @Mina-12128 Před 2 měsíci

      The fuzz itself is not the roots. But the stems, if planted deeper, can grow its own roots.

    I also kill all plants despite wishing I was better at it. So don't listen to me, but some things I've heard:
    1. Mint will take over so don't plant it near anything else
    2. You always need more soil than you think!
    3. Talking positively to plants is also good for your own mental health ☺️

    • @ThePunkHobbit

      I was raised by gardeners (Gardner is literally my last name lol) and I am a gardener myself and you are spot on with all of that! Mint is insatiable when it comes to its desire for conquest so always be aware of where you plant it. The soil thing is 1000% accurate and so is the positive speaking. Another thing I would add is that while plants can be pretty hardy, a lot die for frankly stupid reasons so don’t get discouraged if that happens. I truly believe there is a style of gardening for everyone.

    I am also a notorious house plant killer💀 so I have been having a lot of anxiety about planting produce the past couple years now that I have a great backyard. I completely relate to the fact that you want to do it ‘right’, but what I have found is that most plants are actually quite resilient😊 That’s why people can have such different opinions on growing mediums, spacing, fertilizer, etc - lots of methods work. Just test some things out until you find what works best for you in your environment. And like you said, worse case they don’t make it🤷‍♀️
    Last year I grew green beans, carrots, garlic, kale, arugula, strawberries, blueberries, and cucumber with great success. I also tried to grow corn, bell peppers, jalapeño, and Roma and cherry tomatoes but totally utterly failed. You win some, you lose some lol. I’d recommend finding a couple very resilient plants so you always have at least something succeed🙃 chives, carrots, and potatoes are a safe bet - I also find kale and arugula super easy to grow but they can bolt quickly if it’s too hot. I’m near Seattle so that hasn’t been too much of a problem🎉 but even when they bolt you can still eat the leaves, they just get smaller and a little more bitter. Happy planting🌱🪴

      Yes! I truly think there is a gardening style for everyone and it’s just a matter of finding it. Some people are amazing at houseplants but can’t grow produce to save their life while others can grow amazing vegetable gardens but every houseplant they touch dies.

    • @morganevelyncook
      @morganevelyncook  Před 2 měsíci +2

      This actually gives me a lot of hope haha. I like what you said about there being so many conflicting opinions because just so many different things work. Like just because one person said "x" worked for them doesn't mean "y" and "z" don't also work (did that make sense lol). Anyways, a few of my plants are already blooming and doing well so I'm feeling optimistic! Thanks for watching and sharing your experience as a fellow plant killer 💛

    Ahh I am so excited for you! Just a helpful hint I found useful, I think some of the pots you’re putting things into are too small. If the pot is the same size/smaller than the one it’s already in then it’s definitely more likely to die :(

    I think gardening (as a hobby) should just be intuitive. You plant this like that this year and if it works out you brag about it to everyone. If not, try something else or pick another plant to try. No stress allowed.
    The only rule of thumb I follow is that waxy leaved plants want sun and less water while the fuzzy ones like some shade and a lot of water. None of them like direct sunlight at lunch time.
    I hope you get to have more fun with this project

    Your garden looks great! What makes me feel better is knowing that the top gardeners who host their own gardening shows also kill plants so I don't feel too bad each time I kill one.

    Omigosh I NEVER GET REFERENCES
    I GOT YOUR REFERENCE 🤯
    Also, I kill plants too. When hubby and I were making MUCH more money during Covid, I bought 300 worth of plants/pots/rolling cart and it made the front of our house look gorgeous but only lasted Spring 😅

    I loved this so much! Also a plant slaughter myself. HOWEVER, over the last 1.5 years I've been able to keep a cactus alive, so maybe I can think of trying some gardening as soon as I have some space in my house.
