  • It's hard for me to hate anything, let alone dislike, but I can safely say that I strongly dislike these 5 gray paints by Benjamin Moore! It's not really the colours' fault themselves, but whether it's their name, or their quirks, I just can't stand them sometimes!

    Oh my gosh, that is so true. I just bought Stonington gray as a sample and it’s purple in my dark bathroom. I thought it was an awesome gray and it’s just purple which doesn’t look good with my serious gray vanity. Wish I saw this sooner. I’m frustrated by how different all the colors look in this dark bathroom. It’s so hard to choose a color! I also sampled gray owl and it looks green. I tried lazy gray by SW and it’s blue. Ha! Off to find another sample.
    Loving the videos. Thanks!

    We’re so done with gray! I was looking to do my kitchen and replace all the flooring throughout my condo and it seems all I could find was gray flooring earlier this year. I couldn’t find the rustic look I wanted in a LVP flooring. Gray was everywhere. So I didn’t buy anything. I hope the market has caught up with the direction I’m going in. I’ll be looking for a paint to go with a light brown weathered rustic flooring and I’m leaning to some green cabinets. Thanks for the video.

      How rustic do you want to go? AquaLok has a LVP called Tobacco Road. They have another color called Coffee & Thicket that has some brown tones.

    Stonington grey looks beautiful on my oak kitchen cabinets which is kind of facing North. It’s bright no hint of purple but grey. At the same time I agree with you that it’s kind of tricky and you should be careful when using this colour.

    Grey is so depressing. I operated a manual lathe for a decade and all I seen was a dark grey chip protective barrier in front of me. Keep grey in the dismal machine shops.

    I'm not done with gray. Still like it.....a lot. I just painted my apartment and seriously thought about Stonington gray but after trying to live with the color in various rooms....you hit the nail on the head. A very different color based up room lighting etc.

    I always suspected that about Stonington Gray. On the strip it sat between Coventry and Wickham. Coventry leaned very blue and Stonington looked a little purple. Gave me a depressing cloudy day feel. But there was a time when it was very popular.

    Seattle Mist is beautiful and works in my small dark kitchen. I love revere pewter but it gets muddy in a small dark room. Seattle mist can add warmth to a dark room without making it feel muddy. And it's LRV is almost the same to revere pewter.

    I only paint Behr - Ben Moore has about half inch of cement-like stuff on bottom which can never get mixed in - hard to get money back. Also the can rusts top and bottom. Behr never rusts on me and I can use many years later and stays mixed,

    Now I am confused Stonington was at the top of my paint consideration. We are building a new house we only have the option of choosing one color, The home will be open and has lots of windows that will be primarily facing primarily east and west we will have a lot of natural light in each room including the bathrooms. Kitchen counter top Quartzite white with grey design. We want cool grays no beige. Most of our furnishings trend towards darker blues and grays. I was leaning towards Stonington Gray and considering BM Silver Chain, SW Passive or SW Light French Gray. Which of these do you like? Or do you have a different cool gray that you prefer? Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

    Hi! So glad I found your channel. Do you have a video or suggestions for navy blues? We like navy for the bedroom for best sleep quality. Unfortunately I don't recall what colour our current room is painted, but I'd be interested to see a range from you with LRVs under ten so I can have a guide when I look to paint the room in our new house back in the Canadalands. :) Hale navy is a bit too denim for me, so looking for just a touch more saturation. Like Naval, or ??? Thanks!

    • @thepaintpeople
      @thepaintpeople  Před 2 lety

      Hi Dani, if you like Naval, have you had a look at BM Old Navy, that's very dark, so it depends how much light you get but that's a saturated color. Or even a Farrow and Ball, Scotch Blue, which is very blue. If that's too blue and you want something that splits the difference between a hale navy and naval, look at Gentleman's Gray, which despite its name reads much more Navy than Gray.

    Yeah it does have a lot of blue the name doesn't give it justice I think it's more blue than Gray I wasn't looking for gray wall anyway I was looking for something blue but not too blue and not too dark blue it just was the right blue so gentleman's gray I think they give it that because in the 18th century that was used a lot in gentleman's clubs in the dining rooms I see it in some of the PBS movies old movies so I think that's where they get it from

I have this one all over my house and I tell you, is such boring color I can't stand it. I was able to make it not so...I don't know so "agreeable "😁 in my master with an accent color. But a friend of mine had her inside painted and a gray/dash of blue that was one of those no-name a custom mix colors. And I tried it and every room was beautiful the way the light hits it. But they're also after seven years being moved over to Evergreen fog. Let's hear it for Evergreen fog woo hoo Joy joy joy. And UBrnze on the entryway. And a couple of other spots. Joy joy joy
