Sohyang is actually about 5 foot 4 and 100 pounds soaking wet! Yes, she truly is a _petite_ woman! This is one of my favourite performances from her.
Sohyang's singing is shockingly beautiful. If a person has never heard her sing before it is truly a stop and listen moment, and she easily outperforms Whitney Houston. As Sohyang says, "You must be born with a good voice, but then work very, very hard to improve it." She apparently eats, sleeps and breathes music.
Here is what David Foster, who wrote the song and produced it for Whitney, had to say about Sohyang in an interview with South Korean media site Naver on December 10, 2018, only a week after doing eight concerts with her at Tokyo's Blue Note Club.
“I wanted to meet her very much, and I am delighted to have collaborated in putting together a concert. Here is how I got to know about Sohyang. Oprah Winfrey introduced me to 'a stunningly amazing singer whose video is a must watch.' I fell in love at once with Sohyang's first video I watched on CZcams, 'I Have Nothing.' It was _thrilling,_ and I searched to listen to most of her other songs as well. I have wanted to meet her for a long time. She is one of the top divas I've come across."
David Foster didn't hold back praise. "Her voice is very beautiful and overwhelming, and I found her every performance to be emotionally moving and amazing. Moving forward, I want to collaborate again!"
It was actually Whitney Houston's former manager who found this performance on CZcams and showed it to Oprah Winfrey.
Personally, (and I know many, many others feel the same way), I find that time basically stands still when Sohyang sings. It seems to stop and you enter a zone where your brain is processing her singing but it doesn't quite understand it. I've seen this happen many times with reactors too! They will say "What? Wait! Wow! What did I just hear?" And they will have to go back and hear it again, and again, and again. Finally our heads start to catch up with the mind blowing singing we just experienced. I'm 65 now and I have never experienced this with any other singer. It is like she casts a spell over the listener with her voice and stage persona. Only Sohyang can do this! 🤷♂👌💘
Right Todd! What more can you say! She is Phenomenal! How she ever gets enough air into her lungs is beyond me ! She just depends on her lungs and voice and it just happens , like she’s breathing in thru her skin ! A beautiful tone that does faulter and does hurt your ears 10:14 like other soprano’s !

I also point you to her back up singers who provide some just delicious harmonies and chordal tones the set of her vocals. So Hyang does have the camera crews show the singers behind her and I know she thinks highly of them.
It took me a couple listens to So Hyang before I knew what I was listening to. Frankly I was waiting for her voice to annoy me, as i prefer female vocals down in the lower ranges, like Daneliya Tuleshova, Angelina Jordan and Charlotte Summers. What happened is that I realized that So Hyang softens all the edges of her notes much like Morissette.
All in all So Hyang is an amazing singer and she keeps pushing her boundaries. Just when you think she has reached a limit with her voice her next performance blows that out of the water. So we are all on the journey together and enjoying every step.

During the pandemic, So Hyang, along with some popular K-Pop artists and musicians, traveled South Korea to perform mini acoustic concerts. The purpose was to bring comfort to and to console people struggling during the pandemic. The small audiences were selected through a lottery.

Every Sohyang song weirds me out the first time I hear it because it's not the style I grew up with. I did not listen to girl pop or gospel at all. But then it gets stuck in my head. Then it blows my mind and becomes my favorite song. I love watching her blow up online. Obviously her popularity is exploding and soon she will have the recognition she deserves.
This is truly one of the greatest live performances by any singer, ever! I loved your reaction. The thing is So Hyang can cross any genre and sing any style. Her version of 'Misty' from the Begin Again concerts has been described by voice teachers as if it is like she grew up singing jazz all of her life, and was one of the best at it! It is such a stripped down version which highlights her incredible voice and is worth a reaction. Though I am a huge So Hyang fan (there is no one on the planet any better), Ailee is another Korean-American singer that you would love. She moved to Korea and is now an icon there. Also, another amazing Korean-American who moved to South Korea is Lena Park. I'll leave the link to Ailee's incredible performance and one by Lena doing a street concert! Why is your video reversed when watching? Some reactors are reversed and others are not. I enjoy your reactions, but it's something I always notice.
We do it for a few reasons. We want to alter it in some way to give people a reason to go and watch the original, but we still want it to be enjoyable to watch. We also do it to avoid copyright now and in the future. We have videos that are months old that will randomly be struck due to the video. We have a few other friends that do reactions now and they all do something different.
