One of the best fight scenes I've ever seen. My wife told me about this film, said it was good, and when I watched it I agreed. This fight was badass, from the locking of the door, to Ladd getting flipped in the air, to the tablecloth...these dudes looked like they were really fighting. Classic men. Classic Hollywood.
The book was the biggest book Harold Robbins ever wrote as far as sales go. Like Godfather producer Robert Evans said, "if it's not on the page, it's not gonna be on the screen."
Amazing how the old guy was able to eat those consecutive blows and continue on, yet there should be a few more bruises and blood as a result of those hits.
I love those old western movie sound effects. They used those sound effects in several movies back then. I've always wondered how they created that sound.
Believe it or not, that punching sound was created using a wooden mallet and hitting it against a large cooked ham. Hitting on the rind produced a duller sound, whereas hitting it on the cut produced a sharper sound. Sometimes they combined the two to make them sound different. This particular sound effect was also used in many television series, such as The Wild Wild West, Batman, Mannix, and Starsky and Hutch. Hope this answers your question.
@Kaempfer M so hitting a bloke with a poker is good clean fighting?! Loved this movie but thought Peppard damaging his arm spoilt it. Would have preferred a straight two fisted, no poker fight. Great movie.
@@peternakhoul7250 I’m so sorry it took me 3 years to respond. Didn’t realize you had answered me. Thank you very much for exposing it to me. I never would’ve thought smacking a cooked ham with a wooden mallet is how they created the punching sound. Thank you for letting me know.
Kudo's to the stunt men especially Ladd's. Mr Ladd looks like a tortured soul. and it has nothing to do with the character he is playing but he was one of the best.
Fake punching sounds, if you want to hear what real punches sounds like, go to the fight scene of the movie "The big country". I have seen and heard real fist fight in bars and in that scene of The Bog Country is the most realistic punching sounds.
Seen a lot of fights in movies and Tv. This one was pretty good and fairly realistic but the best fight scene of all time was in Rich Man Poor Man between Nick Nolte and George Maharis in the motel room. Maharis had beaten Nolte up previously in the ring. In the locked motel room, Nolte blasted Maharis with a quick knee to the groin Then whopped him with 2 hits to the abdomen and then a combination to Maharis's face that broke his jaw and nose. This all took about 10 seconds and was over. Maharis was in the hospital for 6 months. Now THAT was a fight. Fights in real life are real quick and over in no time. After being whopped in the face with a quick combination you are usually through
Great fight scene. Peppard was really the winner, he beat Ladd in the first few punches and then dragged him up to his feet to finish him off. Had he not punched the mantelpiece he would have killed Ladd. Fair play to Alan Ladd he took his opportunity and fought back, I like the way he wrapped Peppard up in the tablecloth to stop him fighting back and doing any damage.
Alan Ladd had those hands even at that age!

@Kaempfer M Ok.
Let's all pretend George Peppard didn't pick up the poker then shall we?
It is not perfectly choreographed like the modern martial art films, but it feels very real. I actually much prefer this kind of fight scenes.
LMFAO are you serious ? ffs should've gone to Specsavers.
@@letsgobrandon. Be quiet, krautkia, you have no opinion. Honestly, some people's children? 🙄
Hey!This movie has what's missing from movies today...intelligent,creative dialogue. Those were the days.
The book was the biggest book Harold Robbins ever wrote as far as sales go. Like Godfather producer Robert Evans said, "if it's not on the page, it's not gonna be on the screen."
One of my favourite fight scenes.
R.I.P Alan Ladd and George Peppard.
Get up you jailbird, you killer you,get up and show me how to be normal!Priceless!
I love it when a plan comes undone.
I don't hate Jonas Cord. But I pity the fool.
Love the right left right combo at 1:25! God damn!

Alan Ladd went out with a bang!!! RIP.
It's sad because this was his comeback film!!
yeah, pissed up and drugged up.
Alan Ladd, at 5'6, is giving up 6 inches to 6'0 George Peppard.
2 legends
lol bell ends.
Shane! Come back Shane!

Epic fight. And to think that it clocked in under 3 minutes not counting the dialogue.
Experience. The older guy goes to the body, with both hands, and throws uppercuts. 🥊☝🏿
Some bloodstains on those white sheets and shirts would have made this scene immortal.
Oh those punch Sounds ❤❤
Careful, you'll hurt yer arm.

You still got it alan
Sadly... not for long
Allan Ladd had another pretty good fist fight scene years earlier in Shane.
'I love it when a plan comes together'
Shane and Hannible sounds like a plan
Greet finght 😅😅❤
Peppard giving it the old one-two-candlestick-ouch.
Look at those hooks and crosses!
Hilarious! XD
Lol Ladd had a chin! Love these 60s fights! He KOd Hannibal Smith lol!
blessings
This is Shane vs. Hannibal Smith
Funny fight 😃
Nevada, what can I do?
I haven't the slightest idea kid.
Pretty rough fight. Alan Ladd died (from a heart attack) shortly afterwards. Let's hope that fight scene didn't contribute.

2 grandes legendes
Very much like giant with James Dean.
just watched it... hilarious! nice clothes Edith Head.
But any referee worth his salt would have stopped it at 1:29
Doesn't top the fight scene from The Miracle Worker (1962)
You mean the one between Patty Duke and Anne Bancroft?

George Peppard never was convincing to me as a villain.
Convincing as a cold-hearted bastard here!
Think this was one of his best performances. Not a villain, just an obsessed bastard.
no more of a hero in films
Grande Alan il suo ultimo film
Love the phoniness. All that's missing is the cartoon ZOCKS! from the old Batman teebee show.
God dammit
George was winning....then he missed a punch
Ladd looked old here
Ladd had some serious heart issues and died not long after this movie.
Ladd was a good actor especially when he first started.
Sad he died young .
The fighting so false. It's a farce
