As tends to be the case with Porsche's driver-focused 'GTS' variants, Porsche has successfully applied a combination of options, styling updates, and performance goodies to their Taycan EV in a way that is hard to argue against. It's got gobs of power, but unlike the nearly $200,000 "Turbo S" version, stops just short of making you feel sick. It's got plenty of handling performance, but not so much that you have to sacrifice daily comfort. And it's, as of now, the only way to get the stunning "Turismo" wagon-style body without the "Cross" portion of the equation. This means a lower ride height and no body cladding, but all the good looks and interior practicality of the longer roofed hatchback. The Taycan GTS Sport Turismo may be out of our personal price point, but it's hard to argue against this being the best sport EV on sale today.
Porsche Cars, North America provided the vehicle, insurance, and a charge for this review.

EV or not, one of the best looking and unique cars released in the past few years
LOL. The four door version looks OK, but this is just plain ugly.
yah, its not that bad looking but still think the e tron gt is the best looking car on the market right now. And for the same money as this porsche you can get over 600 hp and basically just as sporty with the RS version.
@@robmanueb. IRL it looks really good
@@js002003 starting to see some head to head better the Taycan and it's brother Audi, and the Audi hasn't faired well on the driving dynamics side. Suppose Audi calibrate their cars for different people tho
This will age as good as any Porsche design. Stunning in person. Gets me every time with momentary envy lol
Always gets me how ridiculous those brake capliers look in comparison to the size of the wheels. Taycan is my favourite EV by far and i never thought i would say that as a petrolhead, but that is a dream EV right there, Porsche knocked it out the park with this car.
I'm a complete car junkie, I've got lots of cars, I've been driving a Turbo S for almost 2 years as a daily, hands down its a great drive, Rj in Oz
One of the best looking cars made in recent times, EV or otherwise.
Let’s face it, it’s no Tesla/SpaceX tech. The genius behind SpaceX, Elon Musk, invented tech that old world car makers can’t match for another 15 years.
@@chamade166 you've got to be kidding? The only thing Tesla has over this Taycan is self-driving technology. Most of the people watching TST want to drive themselves anyway, so I'll take the VASTLY better quality and driving dynamics of the Taycan over any Tesla. Stop kidding yourself. Oh, and yes I'm speaking with my wallet, my deposit has been placed on the Sport Turismo for a few weeks now.
@@chamade166 Tesla years must be like dog years, because Ford, Porsche, Lucid, and Rivian have already caught up and are building better EVs than Tesla.
@@chamade166 Take a seat.
@@chamade166 You know what Tesla can't do? They can't make a fundamentally good car using that tech. You know who can? "Old world" car makers, and they are.
Possibly the best electric daily ever.
Yes. More than the Plaid.
Unless you need to carry adults in the backseat
forget the plaid because porsche isn't competing with cars like these.
@@stryfe2000turbo no problem. The Taycan suits 4 6" men easily. The wagon even more so. I’ve done close to 60000kms in my 2020 4S+ now. It’s a beast of a car to do it all. 6 track days attended this year. Just drove 1600kms for the holidays through mountains in blizzard conditions.
@@Nord_Mann I'm not sure four 6" men could drive it even if they worked together! ;)
@@stryfe2000turbo I'd agree if you were talking about the sedan, but the other two body shapes are 4 adult sized
I think this is the best looking car on sale today. It looks like a concept in real life
I do wonder when Audi will release the avant and allroad avant versions of the e-tron GT, seems a no brainer
I don't know if it's specifically because of the Taycans windshield shape or a new angle of the front Camera but really digging the front end view.
So, it’s technically called the Porsche Taycan Gran Turismo Sport Sport Turismo.
As a petrol head this is the EV that gets me, yes the S Plaid can do it’s one trick but this is a package and a superior product for the driver imo.
Just stop it.. this isn’t even close to Tesla in anything. Fool
@@Johnny2Feathers 👍
@@Johnny2Feathers You're joking right?
I can't comprehend how good it looks. Such a stunner
Porsche is simply king 🤷🏽♂️
I can already hear the Tesla fanboys: "The Model S Plaid will destroy it in a drag race and Elon is a dreamy genius that can do no wrong!"
yeah but this one comes with a whole steering wheel.
@@TheSmokingTire And with actual build quality.
Anti-Tesla fanboys seem to be more vocal. As usual, the backlash is more annoying than the cause.
@@liqslip I have yet to meet the thing that is more vocal than the Tesla cult.
But will it stop?
I mean this is just the classier decision. If you chose this over a plaid you’re doing something right
Happy Holidays guys! Thanks for the great content !
One of the best looking cars on sale today. I can’t afford it but I’m tempted to stretch into a base cross turismo. I can’t think of another sub 100k car (or even set of cars) that I’d rather have. Honestly the same goes for this car.
go balls deep richard
Just saw a white one in person and this is one absolutely gorgous automobile, even the rear that I had found questionable, in the Sport Turismo version is as sexy as they get
Perfect daddy mobile goals! all the functionality without that much performance sacrifice
This is absolutely gorgeous! Thanks for all the videos this year, Matt and Zack. Merry Christmas!
Matt - Great video on the TGTS...whatta sled.
Also - a Big BUMP for the Beardscape!! I purchased the Blackout Beardscape (based on your original recommendation) once Brio established stock in Canada - LOVED IT - and then proceeded to buy it as a gift for my brother and stepdad!! Fantastic trimmer. Thank you for highlighting it.
Happy Holidays and Happy New Year to TST in 2022.
Love the Sport Turismo look! Great review. Thanks.
Awesome video Matt
Hi Matt, a couple of comments about power/braking etc. I do track my Taycan 4S, yes it's fine for track sessions, but of course you need to watch your battery levels.. that's the biggest limiting factor at this point for me. I have a few videos on my channel with it.
About the power, yes, this is where we're at - for drag races, sure, max power is king. For everything else, not so much. Since most of us spend our time on the streets, that's where you notice the benefits of the chassis and interior etc... Look, the GT3 is still 'only' around 500hp, but it's an amazing performance car! :)
If I could afford it, this is the EV I would make my daily. Goldilocks for sure!
Great stuff matt!
This might be my dream electric car, very good looking.
Wonderful blades, amazing idea.
👏👏👏 Outstanding presentation Sir
It just looks like the next generation Panamera. And I'm definitely not saying that's a bad thing. This thing is absolutely jaw dropping.
Thanks for the education on the Taycan!!!
I absolutely love the shape of this car!
Hi Matt, how is the rear visibility? Does the hatchback create a significant "blind" spot similar to the latest Mazda 3 hatch where you really need your mirrors set just-right and can't rely on a rear glance? I super appreciate the space and thought given to cyclists in all your videos :)
seeing this and then thinking back to the C63 AMG 507 edition wagon 6.2L engine from 2014. Life is a trip
“Space Jetson noises” are actual recordings of the electric motors themselves. Close to pulling the trigger on one of these things as my first Porsche and first EV but the dealer has been less than helpful so far and the idea of giving them a bunch of money for a poor customer experience rubs me a bit wrong. Good tip on the side view mirror glass. Wish that the solid roof was an option as well.
Find another dealer and arrive with your preferred spec from the configurator and ask them to order it for you.
Sucks about the dealer experience. Saw it in person and I could totally get this as my first EV
Absolute dream car !!
Porsche out here tryna single-handedly change USA's perception of wagons and I AM HERE FOR IT
Pretty sure audi is offering wagons in the US too
Looks great! The B-pillar cutout comes from the Panamera that had it since it came out btw😬. Great trick
Legit wish I could have gotten my oneblade for my beardscape for free. Legitimately and excellent product.
The Turbo Cross Turismo was my favourite to drive during the Porsche driving Experience.
Looks as good as it drives.
Gorgeous.
I'd get one in that amazing dark blue they have at the moment
THANK YOU SMOKING TIRE CREW!!!
Magnificent in every aspect.
this car is my dream car. it does everything. a 4s cross turismo is a very close second.
could you recommend some good ballpowder??? what do you use 🤔
Good points in the video. Teslas, especially the S plaid are basically 1 trick ponies. Sure you can go super fast in a straight line but they are definitely a lot cheaper inside, under-braked, don't handle nearly as well as the taycan or etron gt, dont look that good, and are extremely common... For me I would spend the extra money on a taycan turbo, gts or e tron gt and go a little slower in a straght line (but still basically faster than anything else out there) and have better handling, better interior quality, the looks, and the cool factor of owning a taycan or etron gt.
Great points Matt, and most importantly, it's a wagon. 👍
I've been looking forward to you driving this ... it's lovely and I'd love one but not sure I can justify spending twice as much as my M3 LR on this and here in the UK the public charging network at 200+ kw/h is woeful. Of course if Tesla continue to open up their network and with Ionity's new money ... that's that excuse gone :)
Thinking of upgrading 2020 4S to this.
Saw this at the LA Autoshow...what a sexy beast as you said!
These roads are awesome...
Liking that ALOT!
All the screens are pretty crazy in that
One of the most beautiful cars I've ever seen
In everyone's favourite game, the money-no-object 3-car garage, this would be my daily without question
I am in the same boat as you Matt if my daily was 6 figures the Taycan GTS and ETRON GT are the 2 I would pick between.
Can I predict that his will be awesome.
Back in 20
Edit, I'll take one.
100 on the euro-spec mirror glass. It's completely necessary on the Model 3 IMO, as the mirrors are small, can't adjust far enough to the left, and the car has a huge blind spot. Took until late 2019 before they were available at auto wreckers online though. For older cars (my E70 X5) it can be eBay roulette trying to find one where the heating and dimming still work.
The standard flat US mirrors are a disaster. What's the value in a side mirror where all you see is 3/4 of the grille of the car in the lane over?
That thing looks amazing. I don't even know why they make a non-wagon version.
Any plans to do a video on the Ioniq 5? I'm curious about a comparison to the Mach-E.
bc Americans are still afraid of the wagon
Ioniq5 is the better car. Not dynamically, but as a whole.
@@Nord_Mann what part about it is better
@@papa_pt all parts, except it’s dynamics wich is strictly comfort oriented whereas the Mustang is more driver focused, if you can say that about a family EV CUV. Most importantly the Ioniq5 has the same 800-Volt architecture which allows for lightning fast charging on par with the Taycan. Even the new Merc EQS falls short of the Hyundai in that regard. Fast charging is more essential than range when it comes to road-tripping an EV.
@@Nord_Mann wtf man I asked what part is better (800v is the same) , not these vague generalities about the platform. You really think "all parts" of the Hyundai are higher quality than the Porsche 🤔
Potholes will love those wheels!
This gives me hope that the inevitable electric 911 won't be shit
oliver blume himself ruled out an electric 911, so rest assured.
Porsche has made it clear that an electric 911 will never happen.
No 911 after 2030. It’s getting killed off
@@Nord_Mannthat would never happen too, porsche is investing heavily on synthetic fuels.
Sounds like you give it a 10/10 brother.
Why is it that manufacturers offer no sunroof options in Europe so much more than here. I really don’t get that
I think this is the only EV that I truly find visually exciting. Too bad it costs so damn much.
Love the taycan prefer the sedan shape over the grand turismo. I think I prefer the turbo front facia over the GTS.
Of all the new supercar electrics the taycan is a personal favorite. My girls daily is a an audi etron cuv and its george jetson sound sound in acceleration. Audi etron lease was 2500 drive off 507 a month with audi care.
Not paying $4 a gallon isnt bad either. Recharge with a 50 amp 240 outlet is super quick in the garage.
I can't wait for "Just the Noise". Just joking. Cool car. Good video.
The German version is also with a glas roof available, but Porsche only registered the glas roof version in the USA. Every version needs a extreme costly certification and those versions wich by experinece will not sell good in the USA are not certifified. Porsche may be register other versions later, if the market asks for it in recent numbers.
*wow dayum what a gorgeously designed wagon sheesh*
Hey Matt, are those Suncoast mirrors called Blind-Spot Aspherical Mirror SKU SKU992ASP? Thanks
If I had the money, I'd love to have one of these
I want one!!
How much range did you used on that drive?
I've got a Turbo S which I've had for almost 2 years, I'd trade it in a second for the wagon, but I like a fast Euro wagon, Rj in Oz
How is the regen and single pedal driving?
Drop. Dead. Gorgeous.
After 10 months finally got an allocation for next year build.
First time wanting an ev. Very cool item. In 2026 when i buy a used one for like 45k i hope it holds up
Same. I bet denser batteries will exist by then and battery swaps will be the hot thing.
I wish they didn’t clear out the rear tail lights or at least give us the options to keep it red. They did the same for the 911 GTS
Dude this is sexy and fast with 5 seats (rear looks tight). If money were no object, I’d get one of these asap.
Hi i wanted to know if the spoiler go up and down
Looks. So. Good. ...if my in-my-dreams GTC4 Lusso was banned due to its power source I would turn to this GTS. Why not have one of each?! Thanks guys
By the way, that beardscape trimmer really is the best
Taycan RWD video is still my favorite, maybe because it's the only trim I can afford.
Anyone know what road ths is? Looks like an amazing driving road
Dream Daily, the Taycan makes me hopeful for amazing electrics. Porsche makes sure its got a soul
that's why it is called "soul. electrified.", add the gts ingredients and it gives you more of what you love.
Yep, this thing is epic. I don't think most of us enthusiasts will ever be able to give up a nice exhaust note and shiftable gears, but this would make an incredible daily.
What's the real world range with spirited driving, a bit more on the aggressive side, but not "race pace?" I just am not interested in having to recharge every day.
That is frikkin hawt!!!
Porsche has been doing that elbow cutaway on 4 door B pillars for years
So Matt and Team, how do you guys feel about the range? I'm warming up to EV's as an enthusiast, but I wouldn't wanna daily them unless they can go 400 miles on a charge, as my vacation drive is 330+ ish.
Yeah... still not quite there. I'd say in 3-4 years they will all be at 500-600 mile range... Once the charging stations situation gets up to speed, the gasoline cars will start seeing the dusk of time.
The only electric car I’d ever buy, but I would want chalk grey
"as youll see, fast as fuck" killed me 😂 beautiful car
God tier spec and God tier car.
That first launch you did on the exterior shot looked like a fighter jet accelerating down a runway for takeoff.
I almost got nauseous watching you driving around these curves from inside the car.
What is the range of these?
How many dream cars does Porsche make right now?
The fake downshift noises are pretty cool.
It’s got a 2-speed box. It actually downshifts around 80kph when in sport plus. In normal/Range Mode it stays in 2nd all the time unless kick down
It’s crazy this weighs more than my truck
Matt's racing driver alter ego: Matt Carbon. 😎
Wow, that rear seat room is tiny
I kinda want this with an actual twin turbo V8.
Oh man
Is the base Mach E really a better value than a Nissan Leaf for a worry free A-B daily?
No it’s not if you’re looking for a city run around,, but the Mach E is better for longer journeys
@@Nord_Mann Ok, that is one of the considerations too. Honestly with the new Silverado EV claiming 400 mile range at high $30s that's kinda looking like a good buy too even though I wasn't looking for a truck.
@@c0c0asauce hehe. Haven’t scrutinized the new Silverado, but it can hardly be considered alongside a Leaf and a Mach-E? One thing to hear in mind is energy usage per distance. My Taycan uses 18kWh/100km in summer temps, and 26kWh/100km in winter temperatures, a ka 44% more. The Silverado will drink e-juice like crazy and with the current electricity prices in Europe, a gas guzzling truck would be a lot cheaper to run.
@@Nord_Mann We have enough solar to not worry about total energy usage. Main thing is distance per charge and capacity. Needs to replace our wagon that goes +400 per tank. My Mom will need to drive it though and she doesn't really like trucks. The VW Buzz is more her style.
so sick. an EV i can totally get behind
