6:10 while the co-driver reads his pace note, his voice is altered by the movement and vibration of the car, just like what one would find in the wrc onboard vids. That kind of detail gathers up for a great game.
I've played through all 6 locations, and, despite the graphics looking better, the tracks themselves are much more boring. Dirt Rally was a theme park in comparison - the tracks there are very iconic. Nothing really distinguishes the tracks in Dirt Rally 2.0.
dirt 2 looks better than both TBH, dirt 2 had realistic water drops all over the Wshield and the body of the car and moved with the wind higher textures,
If I understand correctly, the tracks are now dynamic. Meaning, it will change depending on how much cars have passed on it. This would explain why the track details looks worst on 2.0 than in the first one.
@@Nick930 Never change, man. There's a big difference between sounding like a cultural icon and just sounding annoying. You're definitely not annoying, dude!
They lowered the texture quality of the roads, especially dirt and mud roads, because of the new track degradation system. If you are low in the rankings, you will be running low in the starting order and so more cars will have gone down the track ahead of you. This will leave the road degraded and even leave ruts full of mud and water that affect your handling where the previous cars have left tire tracks. I would take the slightly lower texture quality to have that kind of dynamic track.
It's most likely due to the fact of the better lighting, shadows, reflections, and particle effects. They sacrificed some detail in places where you'll never notice to keep the performance higher since you're driving at 50+ mph focusing purely on the track in front of you. People are seriously complaining about textures when during actual game-play you can't tell or notice the difference. smh
I remember upgrading from a 512KB to a 1MB video card back then.. I immediately said; "Why not have 32 MB of video RAM (or that much L2 on chip)?" My mentors looked at me like I was on acid. Ahh 1991
Just couple of days ago I thought it would be nice if Nick makes comparison between these two games. And here it is! I like comprehensive and unbiased approach of your videos.
I think Dirt rally 2.0 looks like they've added a lot to make it look more beautiful, but the result in my opinion is that it has become slightly less realistic, and feels more like a movie than real life, where all of the effects (especially lighting and shadows) are exaggerated. Both games look great in their own right. I think Dirt Rally 1 has a more neutral look which is trying to be as realistic as it could, and Dirt Rally 2.0 has more of a cinematic feel.
165 hours in dirt rally 1, loved every moment of it and in the first 26 or so hours of dirt rally 2, I've loved each hour twice as much as in dirt rally 1
In the beginning of the sound comparison you can clearly hear dirt rally 2.0s car exhaust sounds reflecting off the barrier to the left of the car and bouncing back creating a nice depth effect. You can hear how close or far you are from objects or barriers just by the exhaust sound bouncing off objects. I liked that a lot
The reduced texture details are acceptable but the body of the car not showing any droplets while in the rain really bugs me. EDIT: Fixed my comment for those Grammar B̶i̶t̶c̶h̶e̶s̶ Experts out there. English isn't my first language so sorry I guess. . придурки...
I looked ingame and my car did have droplets on it. Maybe its a bug with the car he used? Or it isnt shown in rallycross for gpu reasons? (Multiple cars)
Love how 2.0's sound design was re-vamped. Listen close and you'll hear the tires against the road re-acting to the slight lifts off the surface bouncing, skidding and such and you hear the vibration.
the sound is a LOT better in 2.0. Reverb off of barriers, chattering transmission sounds, and just generally more granular detailed sound. That's impressive. I loved the original so this is looking like a must buy for me - I'm hoping the realism of the handling is still there, it was a joy to play this coming from a true simulator background.
The lighting and weather effects are absolutely stunning in 2.0, I haven’t had the issue of it being to blinding as mentioned in the video. It really is quite something to behold when bombing through the stages. I’ve been playing on Xbox one X
Much more of a fan of the 2.0 callouts. Much more realistic in the way of you can hear their voices reacting to the bumps in the rally track. Cool stuff.
Dirt Rally on PC looked beautiful on 4K high settings....so I can only imagine how good 2.0 is going to look with the improved lighting and weather effects.
The lighting in Dirt Rally 2.0 seems nice at first, but I think it's too bright. A bit sun is fine, but Dirt Rally ( 1 ) seems more realistic, even if it's mostly cloudy.
I’m actually really impressed by the overall improvement. For me personally, I love these new lightning effects even they are a little bit to bright. It makes this game feel alive and really gives motivation to play this game
You should add to these segments a UI/UX section. The UI in DR2 is brilliant, although it may be taking a bit too much from the Forza series, I feel like it gives the game a refreshing look and depth that puts a smile on your face, since that's what you see when you first launch your 60$ purchase.
No but it is a big improvement over the handling (not perfect yet but slowly getting there). I think most people end up getting it for that. Who cares about graphics when everything is a blur in the cockpit anyways. Sure if you have the view from outside I'm sure it makes a difference, but from inside you don't have time to see much. The biggest improvement in 2.0 is that you have to control your throttle in the turns (especially in the wet), you can't you blame the accelerator or you will slide in the ditch. That is absolutely a game changer. I actually use Dirt rally to practice for real rally. The first one wasn't too realistic with its driving physics, although it did absolutely help me a lot to maintain control of my real rally car last month at my last rally on a couple occasions and actually on a close call on an icy highway a few months ago. It is really good at getting you to practice counter steering perfectly to maintain control.
I really think the improved physics are everything!!, the sounds are much more realistic too. Really like the new game, even if it didn't has that much of a texture and models improvement.
Thank you for the video Nick. This may be a bit much to ask, but is it possible to do a short video showing DR 2.0 on the PC, with the 'field of view (FOV)' set to its lowest level? I ask because as an Xbox player, DR2.0 has omitted the FOV slider which you get on the PC. The problem with 2.0 is that the FOV looks to be set at a higher level than the first game. Which means everything out the windshield looks smaller, and it has lost the 'you are there' feeling from the first one. And I have no idea how it might look if they included the FOV slider and it is lowered significantly.

Great comparison …. Also there is no FFB road feeling on Dirt rally 2.0 , I hope they fix it
I cant remember what it's called but the first setting in the force feed back menu(I think it mixes all the force feedback values), reduce it from 100 to 15 & you will find it's greatly improved, not perfect though. I run a thrustmaster RGT (ancient tech) & I now get a fair bit of forcefeedback. (hehe 3rd copyt and paste, anyways, hope it helps)
@@p00ky76 i have it on 50 . 100 is way to much . the problem is there is no road effects.
