"The relationship of nutrient intakes to life expectancies in Japan since the Second World War has demonstrated that sufficient intakes of animal protein and fat are crucial for attaining longevity. In the community dwelling elderly, the higher the serum albumin was, the longer the further life expectancy in the elderly. Serum total cholesterol showed a U-shape relationship to further life expectancies in the elderly. Low serum cholesterol was deleterious for higher levels of functional capacity." 2001 study title: Nutritional factors on longevity and quality of life in Japan. H. Shibata.

I haven't had anyone come back and say they eat like this yet 😂. From chiropractors, to brick layers, from neighbors to family members. This is such important information. I wish this were taught at school - it would go a long way to help people make wiser choices when it comes to losing excess weight caused by the crappy Western diet.
PS This much info might be hard to digest, but it would be great if this would be made available in an easy to digest summary format. This info actually warrants a book - especially to warn about the dangers of diet drugs. Been there, done that, and I'm glad I had the sense to stop using the stuff as soon as I started feeling sick.
Of all the diet doctors on CZcams, I find Dr McDougall the most sensible and ethical. I have followed his diet guidelines for over a year, and have lost 50 kg - without feeling hungry (except when I fell off the wagon briefly). Still going strong - eating whole plant foods and not having to suffer hunger.
Thank you to Dr McDougall and his supporters for their dedication to in helping people get the right information about food.

He was able to turn things around and prolonged his life a lot due to healthy foods. It’s not how many years you live, it’s the life quality and health during the years that you get that is the only thing that counts. Here John is a winner. Thanks for the video which has the usual, great information. It is motivating and I stay on the Starch Solution program. Long ago I ate the Olestra chips and luckily did not have any issues.
I did not know that the gastric bypasses do not control the hunger. I can say that with a large amount of whole plant foods and not a single bite of any banned foods that my hunger is very well controlled. It is part of what I consider the freedom provided by the satiating food. The frequent hunger on the standard diet I ate in the past was all consuming, at least when I was counting calories then.

This is one of the most hysterical and unscientific videos I've ever watched. Equating ketosis to chemotherarpy is as histrionic as it gets. Also, the thing that boosts blood triglycerides the most is carbohydrate, not fat. And fructose, which is present in sugar and sweet fruits, is proven to cause metabolic syndrome and decrease insulin sensitivity.
Stating that carbohydrates are more satieting than fat is ridiculous. By defintion, only sugar can cause sugar crashes. I fel much more fulfilled after eating a salad with plice oil and parmeggiano than i feel after eating cooked potatoes. My paternal grandmother ate olive oil every day, and she died at age 97...from a fall. My grand-uncle is still alive and he just turned turned 105, and he ate olive oil every day since age 5 or so. So 100 years eating olive oil every day and he's still alive and well with only mild arthritis
And speaking of extremely long-lived people, a fun fact for you McDougall: in his study of Centenarians, Dr.Barzilai noticed that out of 200 male centenarias, only 3 were vegetarians and not a single one was a vegan. Not one! Since in the U.S vegans and vegetarians represent roughly 5% of the population, you'd expect there to be around 10 vegetarian/vegan centenarians out of a sample of 200 centenarians. But there were only 3.
While vegan/vegetarian diets do decrease the risk of arteriosclerosis and cancer in middle-age(provided that the vegetarian doesn't eat junk food like ice cream and pizza), when you are middle-aged, around the ages of 70 or 80 there is a "switch". Starting at those ages, cancer and heart disease no longer are the biggest risk factor for death, but rather diseases caused by sarcopenia and immunosenescence. And high protein diets *decrease in all-cause mortality* in the extremely old(age 85+).I've been drinking whey protein shakes for 20 years and at age 44 I am 180 lbs with only 9% bodyfat, and I am incredibly healthy by all health metrics. Blood pressure 100/60, LDL-c 36 mg/Dl, HDL 84 mg/Dl, ApoB 68 mg/Dl to 205 mg APOA1. No detectable C-reactive prtein, LP(a) below 7 mg/Dl, my blood glucose is 90 mg and stays there.
