I wonder if you'd share your symptoms & diagnoses, how you incorporated changes, what they were, how quickly you saw or felt results, and how you're maintaining this lifestyle change. How is your quality of life now compared to what it was? Thanks for sharing, if you can.

      @@georgiannaneller1394 In 2013 I was on a Paleo type program. It was great for losing weight but it made me hurt because of gout from all the meat. I accepted the pain because I was losing weight. I found a video from McDougall that had paleo in the title. I thought he was a paleo MD. I got very very mad at John McDougall . But I kept watching. Starch based lifestyle ? Heresy?
      I told myself I will try it. Even with some cheating on his plan my Arthritis went away. My asthma went away 95% and I quit all my meds for gout. After 2 years I stopped the small cheating. Without the cheating it was even better. I can eat 4K calories of starch and vegetables a day and not gain weight .
      Thank you Dr McDougall from getting me off Paleo and giving me a diet that I can thrive on

    Generally, the information that Dr. McDougall presents is consistently clear and well articulated. But I’m confused about one thing: If plant/starched-based foods are beneficial to human nutrition and the biome, why then are grains (wheat, barley, rye) said to trigger autoimmune diseases (i.e., leading to ‘leaky gut’ and illnesses like rheumatoid arthritis, etc.) If, according to Dr. McDougall, autoimmune illnesses are chiefly caused by animal proteins getting into the bloodstream via a permeable gut lining, and if a primarily starch-based diet is healthy for humans, why is gluten toxicity also said to cause an autoimmune response? Is this not inconsistent with what the good doctor has been saying about the health benefits of grains and other starchy foods? If one consumes, say 1kg (2+lbs) of good quality, minimally processed, whole grain, stone-ground wheat, barley or rye bread a day, in addition to a substantial intake of leafy greens, cruciferous vegetables, other whole starches and tubers, pulses and legumes, fruits, and a few nuts and seeds (to the exclusion of all highly refined oils, and all animal derived proteins and fats) could the gluten from cereal grains still prove harmful for people without a predisposition to gluten sensitivity (e.g., celiac disease)? I’m perplexed...

    • @valeriefuchser780
      @valeriefuchser780 Před 4 měsíci

      Yea this one had perplexed me too. I have celiac disease and the best I have ever felt in my life was when I did a whole food, paleo ketogenic diet. I had a good amount of nose to tale animal products in conjunction with loads of healthy greens and probiotics and veggies - it was the only time consistently in my life that my energy was high and my bowels were completely normal - no brain fog, no pain, no bloating.
      I consistently felt that way for multiple years. With covid, I fell off the band wagon, gained a bunch of weight, started eating crap again and my health has taken a turn again - so this time I decided to try a different whole food approach - this time more plant based. I've still been gluten free, but over the last few months my main protein source has been organic legumes.. And my gut is NOT happy. Not at all.
      I know beans can be a gaseous issue for most people, so I've been trying to hold out and see if my microbiome will eventually stabalize, but after 4 months of this, I'm ready to go back to paleo keto.
      My gut can't handle the beans, pseudograins and starches. It feels very similar to eating wheat - super bloated all the time, super gassy, fatigue, and now I'm developing aches and pains in my joints and ankles.
      I've been reading about other people with celiac/leaky gut having similar issues trying to go plant based.
      I don't think the issue is animal products. I think its more an issue of conventionally raised animal products and not having the correct ratio of animal proteins and fats to high quality vegetables -
      Also, not everyone is built the same. I have friends that a plant based diet is working wonders for
      So, I hope this info is helpful

    The gluten in wheat is the same shape as the molecule in the thyroid hormone, thru molecular mimicry the antibodies start attacking the thyroid, thus autoimmune thyroiditis or hashimotos. This was explained by a medical doctor specializing in functional medicine. The key is to heal the intestinal walls and avoid gluten to keep antibodies low.

      Hypothyroidism is related to leaky gut. Addison's disease and Celiac, as I recall, are related to the gut, too. Little tears in the gut caused by proteins allow an entry point for those little particles of proteins & bacteria to get into the bloodstream, where they don't belong. Your immune system goes after these foreign invaders and is overwhelmed...at some point, confusing your proteins with those, thus, attacking your body and areas where these foreign proteins & particles colonize. I believe the way to heal these problems is to heal the gut. So, no proteins, no animal products or by-products, no casein from dairy and no gluten...and, preferably, no salt, no oil, no sugar...no chemical preservatives such as those in processed foods. Of course, anyone can eat however they like. I'd suggest that each person do their own research and decide for themselves what may be the healthiest way to live. Check out Dr Caldwell Esselstyn, Dr John McDougall, Dr Neal Barnard, the pioneering work of Dr Abram Hoffer, Dr Linus Pauling, Dr Frederick Klenner, Dr Hugh Riordan, etc. You can see their research & work chronicled on Dr Andrew Saul's site, doctoryourself.com and on the Orthomolecular Medicine site. Good luck...wishing you all the best.

    Hello, Loving your show. When is it on daily or weekly.
    I’m 62 and I think I have been diagnosed wrong. I’m getting ready to move over to OHSU. My body has been attacking me for the last 10 plus years I only have one kidney now and my gfr is 23. My Dr. said he doesn’t do anything till it’s at 15. I have been educating myself. Plus I have RA autoimmune and chronic anemia You name it I have had it all. Cerebral aneurysm. Lots of organ surgeries and the last one was my hematologist after all the cancer tests he finally said my body is eating my red blood cells. It just goes on and on. Thank you for your knowledge. Everything you have said I agree with or have had done.

    • @fairenough7984
      @fairenough7984 Před rokem

      I have scoliosis, as well.
      I keep my weight down so as not to put further strain on my spine and joints.
      You may wish to consider watching CZcams channels of physical therapists that show how to do stretches and exercises for scoliosis relief (Austin Goh, Brad and Bob, etc).
      Typically, only a surgery could possibly straighten the spine, but you need to research the pros and cons of surgery.
      I decided against surgery years ago, and I am glad I did.
      One person I follow on CZcams, and really get benefit from, is Austin Goh.
      He has short 3 - 5 minute videos for scoliosis relief (and many other easy to do excersizes).
      Hope that helps you and best wishes for your relief!

      @@sandyduncan6167 You can still eat unhealthy whilst being vegan as vegan only tells you what you don't consume (animal products). Eating plant based doesn't make one bulletproof either, but it's a lot more healthy than an omnivorous diet. Science supports this.

    I know that I have a high intolerance to cow, in all forms. Except, maybe, leather apparel and accessories. When I eat pizza, if I have not had any beef or milk for a long time, I can be relatively okayish, except that I develop more of a desire to have other related things, plus sugar, soda, think about drinking alcohol and smoking, etc. If I have accidentally ingested even a little cheese or milk (such as finding out a "vegan" product has milk solids in it) when I am already feeling poorly, I get severe cramps, bloating, etc. But, at any point, if I wanted to go completely insane, all I'd have to do is eat quite a bit of cheese for a few days in a row OR drink a small glass of milk, just the once. At that point, I would quite possibly start half-waking up and seeing weird things in the closet, I would hear voices yelling my name and waking me up, hear loud knocking noises or the ringing of a phone, etc.
    People have told me that means I am insane and need to be on meds. Yet, when they take LSD, peyote, meth or mushrooms and have odd, similar experiences, they know it is because they took a substance that caused their body to go into a state of health that caused the odd experiences.
    I tell them, "No. It means milk is bad for me and I should work hard at avoiding it." Or, in the case of people who think I am hearing demons and that makes me psychic I say, "Well, then, if milk makes me psychic, I should avoid it. I don't want to hear demons." I mean, either way, I don't want to have those experiences and my body obviously hates milk. It's a little sad, only because of cheese toast, but I can deal.
    Where I mess up is in using packaged things that have too much on their label or deciding "Well, the milk (or HFCS) is real far down on the list, so I should be okay ..ish" and that's what I have to stop doing.
