I love how Rome is so intensely unstable that it collapses within a decade of virtually any run starting, I've had multiple runs where they couldn't even enact the division of Rome because they were at war so constantly that by the time there was peace, they no longer controlled Constantinople. The game is weird early on. Rome has so much unrest…and their own modifier called “huge empire” that adds an extra -2 unrest.
You only get one missionary, it’s not automatic, and you actually have to spend your monarchs stats to get a lot of things. If you take a missionary, that’s -1 admin from your monarch, and you have to renew it every time you get a new ruler.
Really, it’s like the European version of Mingsplosion.
I played 200 years of it, formed Bavaria and took Rome in that time, but there are so many restrictions in what you can do…it wasn’t my cup of tea.
