Kayak Hunting DIVERS...Alabama Public Land

- Day 2 of the 2023 Alabama Duck season was the first trip layout hunting from the Ascend H12 Kayak and the Northern Flight Blind. Was able to get 5 ducks on the day. Unfortunately, mostly hens, but got 3 ringneck (2 drakes, 1 hen) and 2 redhead hens.
I loved the whack with the paddle at the end!!
Didn’t want to shoot it again and didn’t want it to keep diving. Got to do whatever it takes sometimes.

Still waiting for the Reds and BB in the FL panhandle. Nice hunt. Cheers

Hey man I'm up in north Alabama too mind sharing some thoughts on Kayak duck hunting?
This is the first year of me trying it. The ducks don’t like getting close to the bank so I’m trying to go to them. I think it will allow for more decoying ducks but I’ve got plenty more to learn about it.
@@northalabamafishwaterfowl I'm trying to learn everything I can as a first year as well. How are you moving your decoys in/out?
Setting them with the kayak. It’s not easy. Next time I’m going to set them with my big boat then paddle the kayak in to the spot. I was hunting about 5-6 feet of water. I anchored the kayak to some fence post to keep me steady
@@northalabamafishwaterfowl This was my exact plan on my next hunt. That wind will turn you pretty easy. I'm running an H12 and I think the best bet is to run a jet sled with decoys in it behind me and toss them from that. The paddles with the notch for fishing lures I have heard is great to get decoys from the water.
I thought about using a jet sled as well but didn’t know what I would do with it while I hunted

I’ve lost too many that start diving like that to take a chance.
