  • I think we can all admit that we have some rough days on the water. Whether it's not landing fish or just having mishaps with gear, it happens. We learn from the lessons and move on. I contemplated not cutting a video of the day, because it was such a mess. But hey, maybe you can learn from our mistakes... It was my cousin's first day trying his new to him Ascend 133x with trolling motor and 2.5hp Suzuki 4 stroke. I think he finally got the hang of it after a bit. We did manage to land a Jack Crevalle which I mishandled while bleeding out. The fish slipped through my drive port. On the way back in we added a snook to the catch list.

Pond kayak. My buddy "saved money" and now he can't go with us on the salt. My old town handles 6' swells in the Pacific in Oregon.

I was thinking of buying an Ascend 133 but this gives me second thoughts. I would fish it in the bay but my bay is often choppy.

Just plug up the scuppers and you should be good.

I have a 133x. Plug the scuppers you’ll be fine. Also bring a pump for safety regardless so you can pump it out if needed.

Also sit in the seat or stand up in front of seat vs very front and you will be fine.

Has anyone tried filling one of these kayaks with closed cell foam?

If you haven’t already replaced the access hatch covers I highly recommend you do that. The ones that come with it are just cheap circular pieces of plastic and the water that comes up through the scupper hole in the bow goes straight into the access hatch. Gets the ones that screw in and you can unscrew the access hatch cuvée. Marine goop it all.

Did you resolve the water issue? I installed glued valve scuppers on mine. Haven't tested yet

What kind of razor does old boy in the grey kayak use on his legs? Thats a close cut!

That’s why Ascends are not made for salt and all those engine mods.

Lmfao no. I have the same yak, tohatsu 2.5 and have taken it offshore. That motor location isn't good, the weight distribution isn't good, the scuppers weren't plugged. 133x is a beast of a boat for what it's worth. But ol boybhas to do the supporting mods.

Do you have a video of all mods? I'm looking at getting the same yak.
