14:26 Invincible Season Review
Ok so the Season 1 Finale Of Invincible is finally here and Episode 8 has a lot to unpack from it. The Ending also teases what's coming down the line and in this video we're gonna be breaking down the easter eggs, comic book comparisons and things that you might have missed.
Full spoilers ahead from this point onwards so if you haven't had a chance to check it out then you best make like Omni-Man and get the hell out of here. Well it was your fault for clicking a video from Heavy Spoilers if that ruined it for you.
With that out the way, thank you for clicking this now let's get into our Invincible Episode 8 Breakdown!
So the episode itself is based heavily on Issues 11, 12 and 13.
The first two deal with the revelation of Omni-Man's true backstory and the latter has the aftermath of it. There are other things dotted throughout from the run which we'll be talking about but we pick up immediately after Nolan saying that he and mark need to talk.
This was exactly the same way that issue 10 ended and it segue's beautifully into this entry.
We start off with Immortals corpse on the floor and I feel like reporting this guy to trading standards for calling himself that. Lad's died twice.
Mark refuses to believe that his dad is a bad guy at first and believes he is being mind controlled which is actually a change up from the comics as Nolan just dived straight into the story after killing the Immortal.
Now it's at this point that Nolan reveals the truth about Viltrum. Original we were told that it was a peaceful planet that had become a Utopia. Nolan stated that he was part of the world betterment committee which travelled throughout the universe helping planets that were on the verge of greatness. Members of the committee would descend to the planet and here they would help the locals out, acting as heroes for the entire planet.
However this was all a lie.
The truth is that Viltrum was a completely oppressive society. In the comics we learn that at one point during it's development that the council of Viltrum decided that the weak must be wiped out and they forced the occupants to fight until the death until only half the population survived. They believed themselves to be the best people to rule the galaxy and decided to conquer it. The Viltrums travelled from planet to planet either destroying or enslaving the population.

Hit like a Tyson punch!!! Taken directly from the comic.
that scene was beautiful,
And after the train scene so you were stripped of your mental armor already. I didn't think they'd be able to make that scene work as well but JK and Steven absolutely murdered it.
I was concerned that new people would find it a little bit of an anti-climax (Nolan just fucking off) but they smashed his learned humanity and it landed so well.
@@bernardallanso7397 beautiful? Mark was bleeding out after being used as a literal weapon against civilians, if anything that scene was harrowing.

Omni Man: " What will you have after five hundred years?"
Invincible: " I'd still have you."
Nolan is a viltrumite, ruthless aliens conquering planets, those words and the memories of his time on earth stopped him in his tracks it seems that humanity has rubbed off of him , even flew off to who knows where while tearing up.
That train scene alone out did what the comics had pulled off holy fucking shit. If this was good I can’t even imagine how insane the conquest battle will be
Yeah it was crazy watching that but, just shocked me so much
Yes. It really shocked me.
They elevated invincible from great to iconic. The show truly is in- credible
The train scene was the most incredible thing I think I’ve seen in animation in a HOT MINUTE
I was thinking of that Conquest fight throughout the entire episode! I just kept thinking that if this fight is this brutal imagine how insane that Conquest fight is going to be
Omni man wasn't trying to convince mark
He was trying to convince himself
which is probably why he stopped after mark said he would have him in 500 years maybe it made Nolan realize he was wrong and that he has made earth his home more then he thinks that he cares more about his family then he thought
@@Mellowedpanda7 for real though. Omni man went crazy though 😭
Mark represents the humanity nolan learned living on earth. All the good, heroic qualities in Mark came from his mother, and the ideal Nolan pretended to uphold, what Mark wanted to be. Therefore Mark represents the good piece that grew inside him living among humans. He tried to kill Mark as a way of cutting that connection, because having those feelings got in the way of his mission.
In the end he couldn't, which is why he ran away.
omni man makes homelander look like a disney hero..........
said that last night. Homelander is Seasame Street compared to Omni-Man
that's mainly because of backstories. nolan has had his fair share of fights with people just as strong as him on his planet. He knows combat and has a firm agenda to be working towards.
Homelander is just a oversized baby with super powers and mommy issues. you could say his raw strength is on par as any of the superman-based superheroes including omni man, but none of the tactical competence. He has it too easy in his universe.
@@fazzification Not even that. Homeland's actual power level is negligible compared to almost any other superman expy. At most, he could probably destroy a city over the course of a day, but still gets killed by a nuke. Omniman can do the same level of damage in seconds and took two direct blasts from a orbital laser with an energy output of at least nuclear blast and only got a nosebleed.
To put it another way, Omniman is as powerful as Vought makes Homelander out to be.
@@fazzification and totally agree. I’m not saying they’re the same. I’m saying the threat level they both carry. You can see which one is real dangerous one. Which is crazy cause Homelander is unchained too. Im scared for anyone that meets them in the alley.
@@parallax7789 That always sounds like happenstance to me in most comics. His power lever is low until the writer decides to put him in a situation in which it increases exponentially. Like batman having plot armor and actually fighting superman. It doesn't make sense from a logical stand point, but the writer thought it'd be fun to see so he made it happen.
But to each their own.
I think how they placed that flashback to show how Omni-man still had a human side after watching Mark grow up was a piece of brilliant writing and illustration, honestly actually almost made me cry.
Man I did
Then just switches back to mark nearly dead and omni man actually looking down at his hands thinking “what have I done”
"i still have you" line was really punch in the gut
The conversation between Nolan and Mark was deep.
Especially when he told Nolan he'll still have him when everyone else dies was heartbreaking.
The part when he said his mother was nothing more than a pet to him....was harsh yoooo

@@Maleik Although it doesn't mean it was 100% truth. In the end, he didn't killed Mark and flew away in tears, betraying his Fatherland on the way...
I think people judge Nolan quite harshly. We gotta keep in mind that he's fighting many years of Virtumite conditioning to let Mark live and just take off. To us Virtumite culture seems ruthless, but brutality is literally their way of life. Coming here and experiencing humanity has made Nolan conflicted, which is why despite being a Virtumite, overwhelmed by emotions, he just takes off in the end.
That flash back where Nolan remembers happiness at the simple joy of watching Mark play baseball was just priceless. It's the humanity (that he learns while on Earth) in him vs the Virtumite that makes the show version so interesting.
Omni man really decided that since his son hadn't gone through any trauma in his life, he would give him a lifetimes worth in 10 minutes
That’s it. That’s the fight lmao

Deborah's importance is mind boggling when you think about it. That flashback showed him with his family and the good times but he was still freshly viltrumite...she was literally teaching him the ways of humanity and her influence is hugeeeee
agreed without debbie earth would be a viltrum outpost by now.
That scene just showed me that there was Red flags from the beginning, he had an aggressive attitude at the game, and all I thought was ‘Deborah, you really didn’t see the signs? look at his temper’
The episode was a masterpiece! Really ingenious and creative writing. How his Omni Man just used Mark to murder thousands of people while beating him to near death and explaining how pathetic the human race are. The train scene blew me away how Mark wasn’t even hurt and hundreds were dead in that subway. Insane
that scene traumatized me LOL
Can you count? It was a few hundred tops, maybe.
For the sentient being from the culture which core can be described as "Cult of the Strongest" it would prove how people are really worthless and never could be considered equals. Sadly for the Omni-Man, Mark comes from the modern USA culture so he remains unconvinced that Viltrumites should own Earth...

Poor Mark. Someone get that boy counseling. ALSO, poor Debbie. I'm glad she isn't entirely alone, but she definitely doesn't have a circle like Mark does for support. I'm really glad this show is giving her some proper writing and attention.

JK Simmons really disappears in this voice role. He deserves all the praise and I hope he gets awarded for it.
I never get emotional, ever. This shit had me so messed up.
I forget sometimes that Mark is still young and his powers are still pretty fresh. So Mark has sooo much potential to be more powerful than his dad.
But Nolan is thousands of years old.....only way mark could b more powerful is lots of time and honestly prob learning from his dad would helo
The train scene was beyond brutal. I couldn't imagine the psychological trauma Mark would've experienced.

@@ImperativeGames yes because being forced to be the object used to kill hundreds of your own people isnt shit and if it messes you up your weak
Yup i agree.. And how about the family's of the people on the train Hell. Everyone else who got killed in that masterpiece of an EPICSIODE
@@zacharybrooks7234 Of course, it's horrible. And I was somewhat joking. But:
1) It's not fully his people. It's 80-85% now. Omni-Man had some point, you know.
2) He already saw deaths, blood, gore - he is a "realistic" superhero and people die around him
3) This world is cruel if compared to ours and people are different in general (in ours aliens don't come from portals and start massacring people of New York one time a week on average)
4) He is not human but Viltrumite, his brain/biochemistry had to be more stable and resilient
@@ImperativeGames he may be viltunite by blood but he is a human. In his eyes thats who he is and we are his people. Thats what hr was saying their whole fight. He may not have cared had it been the viltrumites getting massacred but being the weapon to kill who you consider your own people would be fucked up. Your arguing a point that would support nolans conversation with him, a point he wholly disagreed with. And in this situation. Its not about what u are. Its about who you choose to be. He chose his humanity. Yknow?
The scene where Omni man watched mark’s baseball game broke me. Watching him cheer his son on and then cutting back to him beating him to the brink of death only to scream at mark was heartbreaking. The response from mark only made it more real when he said that after 500 years he would still have his dad.

Omni man really held Mark in front of a train to make a point, I’ve never seen someone so ruthless since Zod
Homelander and zod look like babies in front of omniman.
zog

Darkseid would one shot the planet with his omega beams and laugh at these children playing games.
Zod is unnecessary evil. Homelander is more realistic, but he is so obviously broken because of fucked up childhood... Omni-Man is the most interesting character.
Omni Man is like the immigrant dad that gets angry at you randomly when you're 25 because you can't speak his Language or know anything about his culture.
Yeah you cant raise a child in a different culture and then expected children to share your values.
Spot on analogy!!
No, you can merge cultures. You just can't be an egotistical jerk about it. First-generation Italian American and I like to call my home a " slice of Italy " and a refuge. Then again my family has been pretty chill so maybe they're the outlier.
@@IWasaTeenageTeenWolf I think people just get way too self absorbed, they want everyone to be about respecting and appreciating their culture and they can never return the favor. Somewhere along the way we missed the part where other people aren't really obligated to care that you even exist, let alone where your mother shat you out and (maybe) raised you. Also, all of culture is just an amalgamation of what came before, there is no 'black culture" or "latino culture" or "asian culture", it's all human. There's just too much nuance and weird dynamics at play for these labels but we are creatures that love patterns and organizing things into little boxes so when something comes along that doesn't fit in the box we have for it, it challenges our understanding of the world and that's frustrating and scary to the majority of people.
@John Spartan117 Yes you can, we're excellent in adaptation as humans, it's the rooted down cultural or social barrier with appreciation and interaction.
If you were raised with ability to not have unquestionable superiority of own way of life like Viltrumites/Saiyans/some imigrants have, the process is way more easier.

@@Tracker947 what's the saying again.... the needs of the few outweigh the needs of the many? Nah that doesn't sound right, wanna help me out here?

Invincible is used to fighting monsters and knows his father.
Clark had no clue...
And that’s one major difference he tried to save a lot of people even if they killed so much people (even than that Zack from Wayne enterprise) tho.
It even comes to a point where Zod understands how their abilities on earth in the process which scares Clark even more, you see how unprepared he is and how helpless it makes him...
Even if he always questioned his connection with human race, since he lived among them and the experience was unpleasant where Mark lives like a normal person until his powers manifests.
Jesus, that train scene was unexpected and even if Omni man goes good again....you just can't let him get away with that. As far as I know there's no way to revive the dead in this universe
Yeah they kinda brushed over the mass killings he did in the comic. I don't know how we're supposed to forgive him now. The train was too much. I remember thinking that as it happened.
You pay attention because you saw it. People don't care about what they didn't see - they are too primitive... 9 million people die from hunger every year - most people don't really care. Nolan does have morals, but... Nolan think big, lesser evil principle, etc - just like Cecile. It's just that Cecile wants one culture & government and Nolan - another.
I mean that’s sort of exactly what happened in the comics, he really didn’t face any consequences for it
@@shaggy4382 i mean it's kinda about earth's survival. Cecil can't really afford to have morals in this case if the alternative is loosing his most powerful ally. There is a quote from him in the comics "You can be the good guy or the guy that saves the world, but bit always both "

Man I just came at the right time as I finished the finale you released the video man you are amazing!!
Been following this comics since I was a kid. I’ve had to get every issue of Kirkmans run when it came out. It was also nice to see Conquest before his wars. Can’t wait to see that fight.
Invincible is the Saturday morning cartoon made for those who watched Saturday morning cartoons, now. Can't wait for more.
I was concerned that there wasn’t much online chatter about Invincible, so I thought it might not get another season. Thank goodness I was wrong.
Looking forward to the final episode of the first season tomorrow.
Yeah it’s going crazy on Twitter
Imagine if Man of Steel had a fight scene like this...
@Ivwes Nwindy man of steel did a great job with destruction, but actually illustrating what these types of fights do to humans? They only implied, not actually showed people dying. Of course it was due to it being pg-13 but still
@Ivwes Nwindy blood, building debris falling over and crushing people, the sheer force of a punch sending mark miles, only to crash land like a meteor and decimate a whole street along with those one that same street, hell the subway scene alone takes the cake. But like you said, “blood” right?
@@jensenshackles exactly. I was more taken aback watching the impact of this fight on the people on the streets rather than raw destruction of buildings.
@Ivwes Nwindy bet
@@jensenshackles " building debris falling over and crushing people, the sheer force of a punch sending mark miles, only to crash land like a meteor and decimate a whole street" - di.... did you not watch Man Of Steel? Literally everything you described happens in Man of Steel in both the Smallville and Metropolis fights, just without the gore.
Bruh the train scene was the best thing I’ve ever seen on any animated superhero show
That flashback scene about Nolan true story, Did anyone else see conquest?
Yeah yeah yeah we seen him😎
I'm from Chicago.. They took out Downtown.. Dang what a great series
Nolan: “What will you have after 500 years?!”
Mark: “....You dad”
Me: “Holy shit...”
shit getting too real
I almost cried watching this
Naaaa that was acc so sad 😭
This whole show has left me speechless... havnt seen such a great show in a while and hype about its future .. it has the potential to last 5 season or more . I love invincible . Robert has done it again
I literally just finished it so glad I got this notification
Omni man makes homelander look like a disney princess
Ong. Now I wanna see a fight against omniman vs homelander. Ik omniman wins but still. I wanna see a fight.
The difference is, homelander actually cares what people think (the general public) omni man doesn't. (at least not any more)
@@Zaacdrums Homelander has the laser eyes but after seeing Omniman tank the super laser from the satellite... Omniman would destroy Homelander faster than the Immortal.
The Train scene honestly scared the shit outa me, thought it would've played out like it did in the comic, boy was I wrong.
Hopefully season 2 doesn't take too long!
Based
‘I still have you Dad.’ I was close to BAWLING
This show is SO GOOD! Thanks SO much for all your breakdowns, as always!
Me and my dad were blown away in this episode cant wait for more seasons
I find it interesting that Omni Man is an alien from the other side of the galaxy, but wears a wonderful Tom Selleck mustache.
spoiler alert, Tom Selleck was a Viltrumite.
This last episode, this last episode,oh my goodness this was fucking deep. A lot took place here and I give kudos to the shows writers and directors for conveying all that it did.
Thanks Paul. Great video!
I hate the fact that now i have to wait for new episodes. Too good, too good
I peeped that big ass Viltramite Conquest when Nolan was telling Mark about his home planet. We may see him next season lol.
I was screaming, crying and laughing like a maniac during this episode! And then it hit me: this is my favorite show of all time. I know it might sound like I'm being a prisoner of the moment, but I have seen hundreds upon hundreds of shows in my twenty six years on this planet, yet have never felt like I do while I'm watching... Invincible 🩸🩸🩸
What an unbelievably underrated show. I never read the comic but I'm so glad I gave the show a chance. Such a great story.
This episode was awesome!!! I can't wait for season two. Do someone know when they will start production of season two ?
Thanks for Your Break down, this has been one of the best shows of this decade so far, We lost good shows last decade but this is an Amazing show that I can't wait to see the future of,
Edit: Can we give this show credit for how realistic it is, that building scene was just crazy
As always your reviews are amazing!
