  • The mattress in my Ironman 4x4 Nomad 1300 was so bad my wife said she won't overland with me unless I fix it! Problem solved.

    Just bought this mattress for my Nomad 1300 RTT! It was half off for only $88.39 today, so I am really stoked about that! I did two nights in a row with the factory Ironman mattress and even that was enough to put my 30-year-old body through the ringer, particularly when it came to trying to sleep on pressure points!

    Cool that you can pay thousands of dollars for a RTT and still have to spend more to be comfortable in it. 👍

    Maybe try one of those small portable air pumps for inner tubes or air matreesses to inflate/ deflate all the air. Might make the process go a little quicker.

    Great video, thanks! I ordered this tent knowing I’d need to improve the mattress, so good info.

    On behalf of Ironman 4x4. Thank you for the feedback, we are on the case with upgrading the mattress.

      Yes please put self inflating mattresses in them. I've had three rtt. I took out the matress and put a 300$ self inflating one in them all. The same one has been in all of them. It's amazing and wife is happy

    • @racingfortheson
      @racingfortheson Před 2 lety

      And add a 12v pump to inflate and deflate 😁

      How long of a process will this be. I'm in the market for a tent but I'm apprehensive to buy with this comment. I'd hate to buy one more and then a better mattress comes out in a month.

      @@trey99ek I bought one of those because of this video. It might be the best investment I’ve made for camping in awhile.

    I recommend the Flextail Max Pump 2 Pro. It's only $45 and will make your inflation and deflation quicker and easier. It's also a lantern and a power bank.
    If you want the (IMHO) ultimate comfort and ease of setup check out the Nemo Roamer double. It is twice the price of the Airelux, but when you see the ease of setup and comfort I think you'll agree it's worth it.

    I have a similar mattress. It gets faster the more you use it. I keep ait and my Teton sleeping bag in mine. Makes life easy. I just open it when I first get to camp. By the time we go to bed it's totally inflated

    Set up time and tear down is irrelevant to a degree. Comfort is worth its weight in gold imo. I will definitely look into this for my Alpha II. Love that you’re here in the valley and test and run trails local so I don’t have to be the test dummy :-)

    I have a similar double mattress with the same valve from a different company and was unhappy with the bag inflation so I got a flextailgear deluxe mini pump and couldn’t be happier.

    and got it set it up.
    Will be camping for 4 days this coming weekend. Looking forward to seeing how well this mattress works

    i bought a memory foam mattress pad off amazon and cut it to size, laid it on top of the pad it came with in my tent, feels amazing and girlfriend loves it. Also you can fold up the tent with memory foam still in the tent which is convenient!

    • @aaronsoto8174
      @aaronsoto8174 Před rokem

      What thickness did you buy and add to the existing 1” mattress that allowed the tent to still close? I’d like the thickness solution that can still fold and close.

    I’m still trying to find the best setup. I have a cvt mt hood..clam shell type tent. Currently I’m using the provided mattress with two cheap Walmart memory foam mattress toppers. It’s fairly comfortable but takes awhile to set up putting down both toppers. I’ve been considering this air mattress type arrangement as an alternative. Also hoping that without the factory mattress inside maybe the tent will be easier to close

    I just installed an ikamper 3.0 mini on my Rhino rack pioneer platform, and I’ve got a whistle at 35 mph +. Any suggestions to fix that. Thank you

    an update to my previous comment...
    as soon as the mattress arrived I opened it and followed the very minimal instructions explicitly it worked awesome
    However when we arrived and set up for a 4 day camp the next day it would no longer hold air... as soon as we got home i shipped it back to amazon. hopefully this is just a one off failure for the rest of you but we will be buying a different brand

    Great review. I just purchased one. I have a tuff stuff alpha 2 and it says my mattress is 78 inches long. Do you think it will fit? I see your tent is 79. Also connected with Zach from wild land coffee to help get him some distribution in the Midwest. Saw his product on your channel. Great coffee and super nice guy.

    How thick would you say that mattress is when deflated?

    • @AdventureBuilt
      @AdventureBuilt  Před rokem

      If you take the time to really work all the air out it is about 1/2”-3/4” thick. To fit it in the tent I had to fold mine in half. The worst part is getting the air out. It doesn’t want to move in the cold.

    Why remove the factory mattress? Why not add this on top?

    • @AdventureBuilt
      @AdventureBuilt  Před rokem

      You can definitely do that you will just have a hard time closing the tent. It’s a tight fit. I have to make sure I get as much air out of the mattess before closing or it gets held up. Also a tip I found out leave the valve open to deflate when you going up to elevation. If you leave it sealed the air inside will expand and put pressure on the tent.
