Just got my 2016 Chevy...always had driven a Ford and it was a pain in the rear to get the oil filter out. Watched your video just to see where everything was at. It definitely looks easier!! Headed outside now to change mine!! Thanks for the great video!!!
Great video brother! I’m experiencing my first 2018 Silverado oil change. Didn’t expect how simple it would be! Love how the filter virtually mounts right next to the drain. Great easy access!!! They could have made the dipstick a bit higher up because....well....I wasn’t blessed enough to be taller than 5’6” 😂
Yeah valvoline, mobile 1, and royal purple are good synthetic oils to use. That ac delco oil filter is good too and the wix filter are good too. Wait till the morning to recheck your oil (cold) when its all settle down in the oil pan
Great video. Thanks. Planning to do my first oil change this weekend on my Silverado. You have great taste in vehicles, btw. I too have a Silverado and a grabber blue mustang.
I have the same exact truck you have. I got it 7/31/18. It's now 5/2/19. I still haven't changed the oil in it. 2850 miles on it now. Ha. Going to see if I can make it a full year. Ha! The dealer calls me every week to have me bring it in for my 2 free changes. I bought a Fumoto valve for the pan and I don't want them to install it. Had one on my car for years. Worked great. Wanted to put one on my Ranger 4.0 but it might stick down too far. Will probably do it anyway. Makes oil changes much easier and you will never have to worry about your pan threads.
I used Fram oil filters for many years on my '82 Monte Carlo (Don't have it anymore) because I thought Fram was the best. I watched a video and found out that Fram was the worst of all the filters that were compared. Go with Wix.
I have always used an old antifreeze container for oil filter removal. Lay it on its side cut out to fit vehicle. Always leave cap end accessible if needed to drain. Less mess and easier cleaning up.
Davek why have two different dirty containers. The oil pan he was using is the same one I use. Not sure why you would want to use two. I use one you talk about for lawn equipment cause it doesn’t have much oil. I’m being rough I guess. If you happy with your gallon jug for filter oil. Do it. ✌️
I have the same truck thanks, This should be easy, I feel like wen I taken it in they don’t change shit, So I feel confident about doing it myself! Thanks to this video. :)
Just curious, is the washer for the drain plug an elastic o ring, or a metal crush washer? Rather to be prepared than be sorry, because some dealership parts department are closed.
My oil filter is on crazy tight too after a trip to the dealership . I couldn't get it off. The swivel wrench i used kept slipping and wouldnt grip. It's all dented now from the vice grip i used after. Probably will have to poke a hole through it
Quick question the three bolts too the left from your hand in the video when your losing the drain plug especially the new silver looking bolt can that section be replaced if so what is that section called
I use wix and napa gold filters. I also pre-oil them. I only took my truck in for the first free oil change at 600 miles. They left oil all over my new steering wheel, tighten the oil filter so tight that I needed water pump pliers to take it off and they over filled it! Never again.
I use an old antifreeze container. Lay it on its side and cut out the middle out of it. This way when you loosen the oil filter it collects all that mess. Then later you can dump that oil back into a container and dispose of it properly.
To be honest it probably is cheaper to get oil changed at dealership. I bought a case of 0-20 synthetic and two oil filters at Napa yesterday and it cost me 109 dollars. The price of an oil change lately, the price of everything lately is blowing my mind. Man I use to change my oil for 20 bucks. It’s insane the way prices of everything seems since the kung fu virus came about it’s like everybody said let’s just double or triple our price of everything. Wow.
Every Chevy makes a mess on the cross member when you take the oil filter out it sucks but at least the drain plug and oil filter are pretty accessible unlike some vehicles
You forgot that you filled the new oil filter with oil! You added 8 total. I always use seafoam in the engine a couple of months before the oil change with 8 ounces of seafoam per 1 ounce per quart, and add a full can into my fuel with about 5 to 8 gallons of fuel just as I am going to change the oil within an hour or so. I than head on the highway to clean my injectors for about a half hour with high rpm' s to remove as much deposits as possible from the engine. I head to the gas station and fill up my truck with fuel as I leave it running to delute the seafoam that is still in the fuel. Once at home I turn it off and drain the oil with all of the deposits from the engine coming out with the old oil! It is amazing to see how black the oil becomes after using seafoam! Repeat for every oil change. Peace
Life Hack: Break the oil filter loose before anything since everything is dry and not slippery. Won’t leak if only loose. Second: Always do your partial Jug first. So you can measure it and if somehow you mess up and go over, you can just put the rest in and have a second chance to do it right on the second jug. Otherwise if you overfill you have to drain it all out and start over.
Mitchdenes I don’t think he had a partial jug to deal with. I don’t understand what you mean anyway. It takes 8 quarts so you empty the first jug weather it’s a gallon or a 5 quart jug then add two more out of the other one. Check it then add what’s needed. Can it get any simpler? Why would you add a partial jug first. Just seems more complicated or confusing to add from an open jug first. When you start with a new container you know exactly what you have. Maybe it’s me over thinking it or I’m just stupid idk. Either way get it done ✌️
@@johnsellers9623 yes, you are over thinking it. Partial jug, not an already open jug. You add the final two quarts first you’re referencing because it’s easier to add the rest of the jug and get a second chance at adding the right “partial amount” if you over fill. If you’ve already put it the entire other jug and overfill by accident you gotta drain the oil out again vs just putting that entire jug in and getting another chance at the “partial jug” if that makes sense!
Oil changes are very simple but where I bought my truck they offer free oil changes, tire rotations, and batteries for the life of the vehicle, so I sit there for an hour and a half every couple months. Sucks waiting but free is for me, lol
RYPES 808 yea it punctures easily. I puncture the hole on the bottom of the oil filter with like a 2” nail. You don’t need to hammer the nail all the way in. As soon as the nail punctures the outside layer of the oil filter the oil starts draining out.
Life hack: if you can’t get the oil filter off and don’t have the clamp tool, hammer a screw driver all the way through both sides of the filter, let it drain, use it as your handle to twist off the filter, super easy to pierce the filter also!
I had to do that the last time I changed my oil. I was ripping the metal, so I did it again at a different angle and it worked the second time. Very useful, saved me from what was starting to feel like a bad situation haha
If you don’t have an oil filter tool then get one. And before you go driving a screwdriver through your oil filter just use a rag or rope and twist it with a stick or screwdriver until it is tight then turn it off. I did that driving through filters many years ago sits just awkward and messy. Not the way to do it. Unless it’s the only way with what you have tools wise. When you pick up your oil buy the filter wrench once and done. I probably I’ll bet have two tool box drawers with just oil filter wrenches. I have ones you use with ratchets. The worst vehicle I changed oil on was my 2001 expedition. Seemed like I struggled with that every oil change. Lol. Easiest is my 99 f350. But after watching this video my first oil change on my 2018 Silverado looks like it might be the new easiest. I had the oil changed at my buddies garage since I’ve owned it but I’m like 7000 miles since last change and he has two trucks on his lifts that can’t be moved so I’m gonna lay on the ground and do it myself. Not gonna be easy with my knees as bad as they are but I’m gonna do it in a few minutes. Nice looking truck and that front end looks really good. Thanks for posting the video
I just bought a 2019 silverado first brand new vehicle i have ever owned. 0W20 oil is insane to me the stuff is like water I dont see how it lubricates anything. But thats what it says so thats what I will use. Big step up from the 2000 silverado and just dumping whatever I had setting on the shelf in it lol.
Jeremey Taylor You CAN use freaking 0w20, but 1) Use good brand, like Pennzoil ULTRA PLATINUM or AMSOIL and you have to change it every 3…4 thousand miles for sure. 2) You can freely use full synthetic 0w30 or even 0w40 100% full synthetic polyester oil like AMSOIL, very important “zero” previous w in oil grade.
You have the same issue as me , I have 22x12 on 33’s on a leveled 2016 and I’m scared they’ll be dumb enough to turn the wheel all the way and mess up the things up
You should try upgrading to Royal Purple 5w30, Marble Mystery Oil and k&n filter , you will definitely feel the difference and gives you way better performance and power. 6l of Royal Purple , 2l of Marble Mystery Oil and K&N Filter 🤙👌💯
Gloves, man, gloves! lol And let the oil cool a bit... Based on the weather in this video, wouldn't 5w30 be better for you? Will be changing the oil in my 2018 Silverado next week probably and will be using 5w30 because warmer months are upon us here in Canada; will use 0w20 in the winter though to help with cold starts.

I put Mobil 1 extended performance with a Mobil 1 filter. I don't drive much yet, so it'll last me a year. I've had mine a year, and only have 5255 miles.
Had a 2017 gmc with 4 free 1st on they bent my rim did not open lift arms enough then 2 oil change tire rotation broke lug nut off lol no more oil change at the dealership for me ha I will do it myself
I naught 2016 Silverado and get 5 free oil change including the tires rotation I work on a tire shop and after 3 oil change based on my tires problem I believe they never do the tires rotation and that make me to ask my self if the change the oil So o start doing it my self just a comment
Old comment, but I asked the dealer when I bought my truck and their manager told me that you can do it yourself and not void the warranty, but you have to document it in case anything goes wrong. So they told me I had to do something like take a picture of some part of the process (like filling in the cap) and record the date and what I did. Never had an issue with this though, but I did have my oil pan gasket leak at 57k miles and they never even asked me about oil changes (and I have a catch can, intake and exhaust mods). They're mainly concerned about you using tuners or doing some jb weld shit somewhere you shouldn't be lol

I now know how to change my 16 Silverado oil , Thanks a lot man
Thank you! This video was so helpful. I'm going to change the oil on my 2016 Chevy Silverado this weekend for the first time. Wish me luck! 😊
Yeah valvoline, mobile 1, and royal purple are good synthetic oils to use. That ac delco oil filter is good too and the wix filter are good too. Wait till the morning to recheck your oil (cold) when its all settle down in the oil pan
My go-to video. Appreciate this. Heck of a truck!
My hub passed, and It's been a long time for me to do oil change. Thank You!
I hope your doing wonderful
Great video. Thanks. Planning to do my first oil change this weekend on my Silverado. You have great taste in vehicles, btw. I too have a Silverado and a grabber blue mustang.
Damn ML you're beautiful. Gotta love people who do their own maintenance.
Hi sexi

We have a 2012 G.M.C. As well I like to use gloves and make sure the oil goes in the catch basin.
Good to see you’re using a good oil and good filter. As long as you use an API approved oil you’ll be in good shape. Cool video man 👌
I used Fram oil filters for many years on my '82 Monte Carlo (Don't have it anymore) because I thought Fram was the best. I watched a video and found out that Fram was the worst of all the filters that were compared. Go with Wix.

I feel the same way.
Fantastic, thank you. Had no clue it was that easy to reset the computer.
Probably will have to poke a hole through it
I love the interiors of those trucks. I have an 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500 LT Z71 Redline All Star edition. It is almost a perfect interior.
In Canada I like that lol. Where I bought my 2019 Silverado from the give me free oil changes 5 years or 100k kilometres.
Quick question the three bolts too the left from your hand in the video when your losing the drain plug especially the new silver looking bolt can that section be replaced if so what is that section called
I don't know if you mentioned it, but where on the dip stick did it read after 7.5 quarts?
I would differently do the 14-17 c7 lt1 oil fill cap mod, it is a little longer helps with filling
I use wix and napa gold filters. I also pre-oil them. I only took my truck in for the first free oil change at 600 miles. They left oil all over my new steering wheel, tighten the oil filter so tight that I needed water pump pliers to take it off and they over filled it! Never again.
why is the the dipstick spiraled? 2018 Sierra oil change planned this weekend thanks.
How are you getting an estimated 413 miles on a full tank? I’m running a 2.5 RC leveling kit on 275/70r18 on a 2014 and get about 345 on full tank
Have you thought about a catch can for your GDI? Just curious.
Nice mr. Hendrick Chevrolet that’s awesome I’m a NASCAR fan lol
Did you replace the stock exhaust system on your truck? if so, which one did you install?
I use an old antifreeze container. Lay it on its side and cut out the middle out of it. This way when you loosen the oil filter it collects all that mess. Then later you can dump that oil back into a container and dispose of it properly.
Where did you get your blackouts for the headlights or are they aftermarket lenses
Yo what was the link for your V4 eliminator device?
Thanks for the vid! Was wondering today actually if I should go spend the cash on the dealership oil change or not. Love the Arale sticker too!
To be honest it probably is cheaper to get oil changed at dealership. I bought a case of 0-20 synthetic and two oil filters at Napa yesterday and it cost me 109 dollars. All the vids I’ve watched,,, time has brought me back to this one Time for a oil change lmao
Is this process the same for a 3500 Denali 6.6?

What kind of tire and rims you have on that truck and what they run you?
Where did you by your seat 💺 covers?
What exhaust system do you have on your truck. Thing sounds good

hey man keep up the good work! anything new on the obs?
Does your truck have a transmission dip stick?
What kind of Flowmaster do you put in?
Does it matter if iuse a short filter instead of longer filter..??
I take a nail and poke a hole in the middle of the oil filter and let it drain to avoid making a mess on that cross member. Nice truck!
good idea
Thats what I use when i cant get a filter off
Oside_LS3 does the nail pierce easily? Does this damage any of the threading of the filter housing?

do you have the link to download the service manual for silverado 2018? free?
*dont forget to grease your ball joins while u are done there. Also there is apps to keep track of your car maintencd now*

Do you have to put oil in the filter,is that a must or is that something you just do yourself
What exhaust system you running?
How’s the truck running?
What kind of exhaust do u have?
How often you changing your oil
Does your leaf springs make loud noises? I have a 2016 Chevy Silverado 1500 and the leaf springs have been making noises since around 10,000 miles.
I have a 2018 Silverado and the leaf springs do make noise. I oil in between them with Fluid Film.
Thanks for the help!!!!
What’s size are those rims and tires?????truck looks hot.
Where does the oil have to be in the oil dipstick passing the first circle being in the middle?
Anywhere in between the top and bottom one is good.
Nice Truck Bro💯💯

I got lifetime oil changes on my 2017 Sierra all terrain
Great job 👏luv ur chevy homie
Seconds. Love the part when it drained and went on the cement a bit. I was like, “Damm!”
Same! lol
Yeah... I always try to do a no drip change there is always something that I do to get a drop on the cement or garage floor.
I could perfectly position the catch pan; but then the wind say,
"Ground looks too clean."
Asphalt driveway are terrible during summer, but oil leaks hide so much better.
For the price you pay and the problems you get with them, oil changes should be free for the life of the vehicle.
How does she rides with the valvoline oil I’m still haven’t decided what oil should I run on my 17 Sierra
Runs great, better than ever!
I'm debating between Mobil 1 and valvoline
I put Mobil 1 extended performance with a Mobil 1 filter. I don't drive much yet, so it'll last me a year. I've had mine a year, and only have 5255 miles.
Does it run smooth
Had a 2017 gmc with 4 free 1st on they bent my rim did not open lift arms enough then 2 oil change tire rotation broke lug nut off lol no more oil change at the dealership for me ha I will do it myself
I will change my oil... But after I use my 2 free oil changes from the dealer.
I just used my 2nd free one. They will do the next ones for $65. It’s worth it to me.
Donald P Trust you freaking “Stealership”? Are you sure they put synthetic oil? I have another information!!!
Nice chevy 💯
I have 2 years of free oil changes on my 18 Silverado
Jesse Arista that’s awesome. How did you pull that off?
Nice truck maihn
Man I was doing so well till I poured to much at once and it made a huge mess I’m mad now.
I naught 2016 Silverado and get 5 free oil change including the tires rotation
I work on a tire shop and after 3 oil change based on my tires problem
I believe they never do the tires rotation and that make me to ask my self if the change the oil
So o start doing it my self just a comment
You don’t replace the drain plug gasket?
Jb weld works 😂
Use a solo cup to take off the oil filter. It catches all the oil. Try it…😊
Do u need to change ur filter every time?
Absolutely
How do you like your truck. Reliability wise?
I love it, have not had any real issues with it.
How do you rest oil life??
Go to oil life. Hold the check mark on your steering wheel
A easy trick is to losen the oil filter before you take out the main drain plug
Drain plug 18 ft pds
7 or 8 quarts?
it depends on what motor you have 5.3 vortec is 6 quarts and a 5.3 ecotec is 8 quarts
Why did a guy tell me me to pump the gas 3 times, when it's cut off, after the new oil is in?
Video starts 1:20
Doesn't it void warranty if you do it yourself?
No. Had a 2011 Terrain. Did it myself every 5k. Had every 5qt jug to prove to dealership. Every factory warranty was applicable
Here in Oklahoma I get free oil changes until my truck is paid off
Wow!!
Do you change the oil every 3k miles or 6k miles?
About 3 or 4k
I don't care about the oil changes because I know how to do it I just want my pickup truck sound like yours man hahah.
7 quarts taught it took 8 ?
it does
It depends on what motor you have a 5.3 vortec is 6 quarts a 5.3 ecotec is 8 quarts
8 quarts for the ecotec 5.3 is correct 0W-20
I watched this video then went straight out & changed the oil in my 2018 Silverado 5.3. Its white like urs also. Lol
This is why I use the 1 quart bottles. I just buy 8 of them so I don't spill
