AAAAH ! YES ! I am so happy finally to hear the emphasis on Shadow instead of Light. I have always wondered why people described Light so much when to me Shadow was the actual pivotal ingredient was shadow. (I realize they go hand in hand but far more is mentioned about light than shadow.). Really great video here... and learned so much. Thank you.

The portrait of Matti had enough directionality and contrast to be effective, while still being soft enough to retain an appropriate casual atmosphere. I found it quite good as an example and flattering to the subject.

Peter, I have watched quite a few of your videos in the last 3 weeks. I obtained an Olympus 7-14mm Pro and I like it so much that I started looking for information about other Zuiko lenses, so that lead me to you. You do some interesting and informative videos, interesting perspectives. Anyway, I went with 2 more Zuiko's, the single-coated H.Zuiko 24mm and the 12 - 40mm Pro M.Zuiko. Keep up the great work you are doing...
Thanks Peter, a really good discussion of light and shadow and idea for an assignment. Something we all see every day but (speaking for myself) don’t fully appreciate. I’d also be really interested to look in a bit more details at how very flat images can also be effective - contradictions are always fascinating.

Hi Peter. Exceptionally informative video. Thank you very much. I learned a lot of new things - all very helpful. By the way, I actually liked your studio selfie better than the photo that Matti took of you. Good health to you!
I agree about the portraits. Matti's had very soft and almost flat lighting. There was some difference and directionality to it, but the much stronger lighting definition, together with the black background and hoodie pumping up the contrast, made the studio selfie pop with a lot more drama.
Nice try! This is certainly a very broad subject, but at least you gave some rules of thumb. One should remember though that photo journalists or wildlife photographers cannot wait for the golden hour... And some of the most interesting pictures have been taken with very harsh flash light. So there is of course much more to it, and perhaps you might want to go into this in later videos.
You are absolutely right about wildlife and photojournalism. They have to some times make image sin conditions that are not ideal. The images would still benefit rom great light.
Hi Peter. Perhaps you could give us more time to submit to your assignments? You give us 4 days to think about a shot, set it up,, take it, process it and send it off to you. A bit more time, maybe a full week, would be appreciated...
