    Nice video Peter. I hadn't even thought of face priority having anything to do with exposure. Great tip! I have to say I wish I spoke a second language as well as you speak English. Your command of English is superb.
    Video idea: how has photography changed for you and other photographers in Finland since the Soviet Union fell? For example, were there places you could not photograph in? Places you couldn't go? Was the market for pro photographers different? I think the comparison would be interesting.

    • @ForsgardPeter
      @ForsgardPeter  Před 3 lety

      The photography did not change at all. Finland has been independent since. We survived two wars agains Soviet and Finland was never occupied by Soviet Union.

    ps spent last night also having a good look at LR cloud and was amazed how much you could do there as well, if only you could do the same with Classic on the iPad. I am on a AI trial with Topaz de-noise atm, but don’t seem to be noticing much difference - is this just me?

    Hi Peter - another great video, thank you :) what do you think of the Olympus Highlight & Shadow control ? I’ve had an Olympus camera for 5 years and never really understood it! As a JPEG user I think it could be really useful to fine tune my exposure rather than EV which affects the whole image. What do you think?

    • @ForsgardPeter
      @ForsgardPeter  Před 3 lety +1

      I did not really understand what you mean? You can adjust exposure with aperture and shutter speed, but with exposure compensation your either adjust aperture or shutter depends on your shooting mode.

  • @georgivt
    @georgivt Před 3 lety

    Hi Peter, thank you for the useful tips. What is the connection between the exposure and iso. If I change the exposure on Aperture mode, what role plays the iso correction?

    • @ForsgardPeter
      @ForsgardPeter  Před 3 lety

      The exposure is set with shutter speed, aperture and ISO. If you change any of these three you need to change the third if you want to keep the same exposure. Lets say you have exposure that is 1/125, f5.6 and ISO200. You are happy with the result, but you feel that there is too much depth of field. So you decide to use f4. If you keep the other two as it is you will over exposure by one stop. You need to change either the shutter speed or ISO. You can use 1/250s shutter speed or use ISO100 to get the same exposure as it was in the first combination.

    • @georgivt
      @georgivt Před 3 lety

      @@ForsgardPeter thank you. It seems it is much more complex for a jpeg shooter who is using mainly P or SCN modes as I was doing.

  • @dzengiztafa510
    @dzengiztafa510 Před 3 lety

    Hi thank you for the video. A question about exposure. I just upgraded my camera, by buying a D780. All my photo's have the smae problem, being that the foreground is dark & underexposed while the sky seems almost blown out. Is this a metering setting that can be changed which might help me in shooting landscapes or is there something else I can do to even out the exposure between fore & background without reverting to filters or bracketing? I usually shoot in AP, set at 8ish, Iso 100. Thx

    • @ForsgardPeter
      @ForsgardPeter  Před 3 lety

      It is not about the camera. It is about the too big of contrast in the scene. The camera just cannot record the shadows and highlights at the same time. The only way is to either use HDR or blend different exposures together in post. Here is one video about HDR: czcams.com/video/uEZoiI27TNc/video.html

  • @johndc7446
    @johndc7446 Před 2 lety

    Thanks. I was wondering if should I always have to avoid clipping my histogram inside the camera even to the slightest? Or is there an exemption? Im new to photography.

    • @ForsgardPeter
      @ForsgardPeter  Před 2 lety +2

      If you shoot raw then yes it is not a problem if you see some red flag color. It also matters where it is. If it is on a face then lower the exposure.

  • @DavidCrooksPhotos
    @DavidCrooksPhotos Před 3 lety

    Since moving from Canon, I have found the EM1M3 is more overexposed. Seems like I am always checking my Exposure Compensation. Especially when photographing white birds and then turn around to a darker bird.
    Not sure if I am sold on ETTL. Guess I will test it out myself.

    • @ForsgardPeter
      @ForsgardPeter  Před 3 lety

      ETTR works on every subject, just do not clip the highlights. If there is a white bird on a dark background there will be a histogram that looks that it is not ETTR. But if the whitest part of the bird is just on the edge of clipping, but it is not clipping then it is ETTR.

    • @DavidCrooksPhotos
      @DavidCrooksPhotos Před 3 lety

      @@ForsgardPeter Thanks for the response! Again, I need to test it out next time I am out...

  • @MoouuS
    @MoouuS Před 3 lety

    On the histogram, all the way to the left is black and to the right is white but what is the white and green? what are those colors for?

    • @ForsgardPeter
      @ForsgardPeter  Před 3 lety +1

      White is the whole range of light. The green is according to manual: "and those within the spot metering range in green." The green area shows the values spot metering meters. But to be honest I have not really figured the logic totally. That is something that I will look into more.
