BTW. This was done in 1975. No digital, all analog over dubs. No auto tune, no filters, no corrections.

Sir Dr. Brian May, the astrophysicist, on guitar. A guitar he built with his father. The incomparable Freddie and the steady John and incredible Roger. They were the perfect combination.

Freddie was working on writing three different songs when he had the genius inspiration to combine them into this epic masterpiece.

@@anthonyspurgatis5820 if you're referring to Live Aid, it was to send aid to Eithiopia where people were dying in large numbers due to famine. The Live Aid concert was in 1985, Freddie wasn't diagnosed until 1987.

Freddie was born in Stone Town, Zanzibar. I think in this song -- I killed a man, Put a gun against his head, Pulled my trigger now he is dead" -- he is referring to himself admitting that he is gay and he is leaving the old self behind.

If you like meaningful songs try Queen's You take my breath away or Love of my life. Only live versions with all 60's and 70's bands/singers. It will show you how talented they were and how almost no one today can be as good if not better live like they were back then. they all had fierce competition and tried to always be the ones with the number 1 hits and there were 100's of good bands back then. Not the mostly untalented ones they have today that get chosen for their looks and sex appeal and then get auto tuned because they can't sing. It didn't matter what you looked like back then. Look at the Bee Gees. Not that great looking but pumped out more hits than you can imagine not only for themselves but for a lot of other bands too.

Everyone should listen to this song just for the pleasure the first time. Then for more depth, listen again with this in mind. Think of it as a three-part rock opera. The first sets the scene; I'm just a simple boy, easy come, easy go. Then doing something heinous - murder. Then recognizing the effect on himself and others around him. His world changes to one which is foreign and rhapsodic. The second is the trial with all its pleadings, arguments, counterarguments, circus, and chaos. Third, acceptance of the verdict. Note that the last note is s single strike on a cymbal, allowed to die completely. Death.
This masterpiece is just as relevant today, as it was when created. It will be relevant for as long as man is on this earth. Queen and Freddy Mercury will live forever based on this song alone.
Needless to say, I fall in the societal issue camp, as opposed to the metaphor camp, on this masterpiece. Being gay really mattered to Freddie. There would be no "Nothing matters". He would not want to be "let go".
