      @Sassypaws4927 Před rokem +8

      @@TheLastGarou Paul Gambaccini, who was part of the BBC broadcasting team at Live Aid, recalled the awe among other superstar musicians watching backstage. “Everybody realized that Queen was stealing the show,” said Gambaccini. In fact, the actual words that Elton John uttered when he rushed into Freddie’s trailer after the set was, “You bastards, you stole the show".
      “Queen smoked ’em. They just took everybody. They walked away being the greatest band you’d ever seen in your life, and it was unbelievable,” said David Grohl of Foo Fighters. “And that’s what made the band so great; that’s why they should be recognized as one of the greatest rock bands of all time because they could connect with an audience.”

    You have to just sit down and catch their entire 1985 live aid performance. You can watch him take a tired and grumpy crowd and have them eating out of his hand within the first song. I don't think there has been a display of pure showmanship to come close to this since.

    In their earlier days, Queen didn't like the crowd singing because they had worked hard and the crowd was singing over them. Then Brian May thought, "Well, they're going to do it anyway. So let's give them their own songs to sing." Brian came up with "We Will Rock You" (I know you've heard that one) and Freddie came up with "We Are the Champions." For those of us that have been around for a while, these two songs go together. And they were written for the audience to sing along. So if you're doing "We Are the Champions" you have to do "We Will Rock You."

  • @granfall00n

    For me, "We Are the Champions" is always connected to "We Will Rock You." When Queen introduced the songs to us on the News of the World album, one song led into the other with no pause. Amazingly, "We Will Rock You" is as recognizable as "We Are the Champions." They are designed to go together, so you might give them a listen. One more Queen recommendations to you (already have a "Bohemian Rhapsody" recommendation pending from a prior post), give "Fat Bottomed Girls" a try!

    You can't go wrong with Queen and should check out the whole 20min Live-Aid performance, aka. "20 minutes that changed the world!".
    And as you heard "We are the champions" now ... the song they always played before this one was "We will rock you" and I am pretty sure you can "stomp-stomp-clap" and sing along immidieatly!
    If you haven't heard the studio version of "Bohemian Rhapsody" yet, you sadly missed the song which reaches number 1 three different decades!
    Queen have made chart history by becoming the first ever act to surpass seven million album sales! Do yourself a favour and buy the record "Queen - Greatest Hits". You can't go wrong with it! It is the best selling album of all time in the UK and contains "Bohemian Rhapsody" as opener, of course. If I am not mistaken, "BohRap" the second most selled song after Bing Crosby's "Whtie Christmas" of all time ... Give it a try!
    I am happy for you, that there is so much Queen songs out there for you to discover! There are "only" 53 official chart hits they put out during their time, but - in my and most opinion - most of their other songs (and hits) are even better! Not radio-play-style-songs, but incredible, solid work worth listening to!

    So many Queen songs have been used in commercials, movie soundtracks and other places it would be hard to have never heard them. You just didn’t know it was Queen. Freddie composed music in so many genres including opera, and recorded a full opera album with the famous Spanish diva Montserrat Caballé. They have three great performances together on CZcams titled “Barcelona”, “How Can I Go On” and “The Golden Boy”. The first fusion of rock and opera and the song Barcelona was a theme song for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. Sadly Freddie passed away in 1991.

    This concert was a huge deal, a very huge deal. It was held In Philadelphia and London simultaneously by a number of different bands but I think Queen was the best performance by any band during that history event. Watch the whole concert when you get a chance Britt! I think you will enjoy it entirely ❤️

    The song played before this was 'We Will Rock You', but it was only a partial coverage of the song, you might want to watch the actual music video of it.
    Another song you might notice the beat of, seeing how the bass beat was stolen by another artist (no spoiler here), is Under Pressure, the live version at Wembley Stadium is awesome, especially with the crowd participation. It was written with David Bowie and the beat created by John Deacon transcends time . . . . watch it and you will see.

    We attended Live Aid in Philadelphia with so many unbelievable artists in a once in a lifetime event. Nothing before and nothing ever since like this in my lifetime. Happening at the same time with a whole different stable of first rate musicians in England which they played on Jumbotron TV's all over JFK stadium. In between the live acts we watched the simulcast from England at Wembley Stadium. When Queen came on they completely stole the audience. So happy to have had the experience - and something I will never forget.
