Speaking of fluids, the dealer talks about changing the brake fluid, is this necessary or just a money making scheme?

Scotty is giving people good advice. I'm a mechanic and I've seen people giving bad advice on CZcams. Scotty is one of the few who actually gives good advice on car care.
Jake Hall oh come on there are many good mechanics out there.
He's a Toyota fanboy.
If you think he's giving good advice, you're no mechanic.
Man I wish I had an apprenticeship with Scotty kilmer. One of a kind mechanic.
At least u cud learn his gestures fr where u r
Scotty, for the simple reason that you share all of your years of collective knowledge to us CZcams viewers, puts you on the level of all the greats that have shaped our modern world! Truly, a humble thank you for all that you do!
The more videos I see on modern cars... the more I love my 90's vehicles
AMEN. 275k on my '99 Avalon and it still drives like a champ. Original engine, trans, AC, etc, etc...
Even your 90 vehicle is computer operated
Yeah man about 1978- 1999 of all factory locations was the golden age.
1995 Nissan Pathfinder 171,000 miles. 1997 Path 168,000. Takes me where I want to go. Old school rides. I still enjoy them and the reasonable insurance rates.
Most of the cars from those days still had dipsticks. Now transmission fluid is almost a job for only someone with a lift.
Professor Scotty does it again! NOBODY on CZcams can match your quality content! Keep it up!
You read my mind
Scotty's a walking automotive archive. Love this guy.
Bullshit claim that your opinion. Another wannabe car enthusiasts or technician.
I love that he breaks things down for people who are novices and doesn't have the pretension that most car CZcams channels have.
Aside from his dislike for German cars I like to see what he has to say about other things.
I got into the automotive industry some years back, briefly, and I can always tell when people approach things from practical experience. There are those who hear or read something and parrot that information...and then there are those who know from first-hand experience. I can tell you bring that to the table and I just wanna say I appreciate that. It seems like trustworthy and reliable information from somebody who's just passionate and loves to teach.
Scotty, today is the 10th year since I first discovered You =YourChannel. And I been watching most of your videos. I have lost two CZcams accounts previously and I am still watching and I have learned a lot over the years about your car repairs and car advises. THANK YOU.
Scotty I was watching a transmission rebuild video and as soon as he started putting it back together he said "you always want to oil it parts as you assemble it piece by piece" and right above my phone your video pops up with the title I couldn't believe the perfect timing. Also stay safe with the tornadic weather threat
I can’t take you serious being FBI.

I want to down load Scotty's brain into AI FOR the greater in of humanity. Lol. All jokes aside I'm kidding but would like to.
@@ezekiel3934 yeah bro Scotty could at least create old Toya maintenance academy.

I use Valvoline Synethic ATF and it is a FANTASTIC fluid. They sell it at Walmart Canada for $31 for 5 Litres. I change my fluid every 50,000 km. I have driven over 400,000 km with no transmission problems, so I feel confident I am doing the right thing. I love Valvoline for ATF.
Tgats what I'm using in my car valvoline full synthetic
$31for 5 litres???Holy cow! Oils expensive up their. Even in Pa. U.S.A it's $10 cheaper.
I can get 5 quarts of oil an oil filter for $18.
jalsr.speak237 that not bad. That’s about right for Walmart. I Pay $4 for a quart of Walmart brand. Try Auto Zone. The oil I need is like $8-$10USD quart there. They tax on the oil. Even the cheap conventional stuff is pricey.
the lectures my dad never gave me... thank you scotty
#1. Best, Competent, Intelligent Video on CZcams. The tire insight is eye opening and jaw-dropping. Thanks Scotty!
I filled my tires with concrete so they're always nice and firm and round.
Hey that's a good idea. Better traction and they don't go flat!
Dont have to worry about a blow out either
Didn't Garage54 do this once?
I had a blowout with concrete tires. Some doushbag threw a hammer towards my tires

His knowledge of vehicles is amazing. Ive learned more from him in a few weeks then from actually owning cars
9:50 - "We're all in this together." You said it a year before it was popular. Thanks for the vid. You give so many practical bits of information.
Nissan tech here, he hit the nail on the head here. OEM fluid is crucial and functional cooling system is imperative to a properly operating driveline.
"When i was a young mechanic" always funny!
😁 I laughed too
Scotty reminds me of my step grandfather. Same garage setup, completely disorganized but a highly trusted neighborhood mechanic. He started out just fixing his cars and truck until neighbors started asking him questions about their car problems. It was a great way to supplement his income and ended up earning more repairing cars out of his garage than his steel Forman job.
That was before I was even born or my parents met each other and I am 42.
@@JeepTJWheelin only problem now you do that and local authorities will shut you down ( death of real capitalism ) . The big companies including all car manufacturers and dealerships and chain repair shops make sure laws were created not to allow any small local guys to be self sufficient and operate in modest locations to protect there own interests. Basically what I describe is fascism were state and big business work together happened in all industry since late 1970ies they also conditioned the public to inform them of the activities also they are condition to think they are doing their civic duty .
Scotty..Thanx for making us AWARE about what maybe needs to be done under the hood as we drive down the road. Knowledge is KEY!
The amount of information in these videos is astounding. Thank you Scotty!
Scotty you are the only reason why I work on my car if it wasn't for your videos I would be spending a lot of money at a dealership or at a mechanic shop and most likely getting ripped off so again I appreciate all the videos you make and everything you do

Scotty, I AM IN CANADA and I started watching your videos and subscribed not long ago. And I gotta say that listening to you I learned more than my brother going to the mechanic school. Thank you for the fun way you teach that make learning something new very entertaining. I HAVENT BEEN TO THE US IN 20 YEARS BUT YOU MAKE ME WANNA DRIVE THERE JUST TO TAKE MY CCAR TO YOU. When I go to US ( WHEN ALL THIS FINISHES ) I WILL LET YOU KNOW!! THANKS !!!
Hahah! Love those pictures in the corner as you're explaining...Priceless...Keep up the good work, Scotty!
Scotty is a wonderful mechanic but even more importantly he has common sense. thank you Scotty
Good way to fix funny noises in the transmission I've learned is just turn up the volume on your radio.

@Ace Degenerate lol ain't that the truth
Don't forget to put black electrical tape over that pesky "Check Engine" light!
Omfg thanks for the advice now my car sounds new again 👍🏻🤣

You are an honest auto school. Thank you for all your advices that help people not like most mechanics they hide even simple info so you come back again to their shop to pay again and again. Thank you from Kentucky.

LMFAO!!!!
What's the difference between a BMW and a porcupine? A porcupine has a prick on the outside..!
Thanks for the battery / alternator load test idea! Never knew it could affect the transmission.
I love all of Scotty's videos. I agree with him 100 percent.
Scotty, that is the most in depth video for cars. I am in the midst of rebuilding my transmission. So it is an adventure.
Scotty wants us all to save money and don't get ripped off thats why we watch his vids, thanks Scotty your a Good man 🙂
Nice to hear real world advice to go with the book learning.

Great video Scotty! Good explanation on how things are interrelated. Most people don't have a real good idea of how those things work-even before everything went electronic.
Wow this man is wonderful. He had saved me and my family of 8 thousands in repairs just from his simple knowledgeable videos. Thanks God bless.
I was thinking about low tire pressure being a problem, but I never thought about the transmission cooler fan! Great advice.
You're the best Scotty, thanks so much for helping us!
Best tip video yet from Scotty, thanks.! 🚗
THANK YOU so much for your videos and explaining things to those of us who have no idea of the mechanics of a car !!!!!
Added to my SAVED list ! so much good info packed in here Scotty !! thank you !
I love your advise Scotty! Keep them coming and Thank You!
Scotty you're a decent person with a heart with down to earth advise to actually cares about people who own automotive vehicles you provide excellent honest advice you'd rarely get from your local auto shop as their too busy looking to sell you mechanical services your vehicle doesn't really need, while completely ignoring the issues that need immediate attention, you remind me of a simular person who I just watched a CZcams documentary on Johnny Cash however this is Scotty here providing countless friendly honest advise to everyone worldwide that own autos. Cheers
I agree 👍
God bless you Mr.Kilmer. Thank you for all of your great advice and the time you put into making these videos.
Scotty, I'm one of those chick's who works on her own truck but no one else does it any good lol. I trust nearly no one. Scotty, I trust you. And it's crazy how often you confirm my slightly educated thoughts and suspicions about exactly what is up with my truck. Thank you for being golden.
Bought a used focus and dropped the pan at 100k and I was glad I did. The pan was never off and that lifetime oil was done. There was so much fine debris on the magnet it was 3 times it’s real size.
Jean Brannen ya sum or majority of ppl never change the tyranny fluid. Dumb
@@soalfisk4862 God-damned tyranny fluid. Always keeping us oppressed and shiieeet.
I had to change mine on my Pontiac and it wasnt that bad. Cleaned up nice no sludge
Hell2Pay 😂 got em
Bought a Suburban once that probably never had it changed and the SUV had been used to tow horses at one point. Worst transmission I had; fluid was pitch black as soot and yet it was so thick that you couldn't move the gear shift easily so maybe the seller pulled a used car lot trick. The trans rear gear went under a month after purchase. I still have it since I had someone work on it for relatively cheap; $1,100 in 2015. He did it as a side job out of his garage.
Love how Scotty’s keeps up with the technology. He’s not like these other old schoolers🤣 “don’t change your transmission fluid” yeah ight!
Awesome, thank you for that wee nugget Scotty. Much appreciated.
Scotty your videos have saved me thousands! I am in Cape Town, South Africa and I do not trust “Specialists” anymore. I was quoted R40000 to rebuild my Volvo transmission which just stopped changing gear without any odd behaviour. Turned out to be a voltage and ground issue. I did a fluid and filter change and the car drives perfect. No money spent on labour! Keeps these tips coming! You are a God send!
Scotty, that had to be the best video I've ever seen you do, and I've watched a lot of yours. Very informative. I'd like to see a series like this on almost every vehicle ie. my 1500 Silverado...their problems, how to try to keep them from breaking down. What to do for them for preventive maintenance beyond the usual.
Just remember we’re all in this together and I’m rooting for you, keep your stick on the ice.
Red green
Wow you really gave me some very valuable information. I didn’t know any of the stuff about The electricity and the transmission thank you very much Scotty. Keep up these great videos I love them. And happy Easter
Love your videos! You always look just a little bit on the Tipsy side!! 😁
Great info, and love the way you present them!
That was a very helpful video!!
Thanks Scotty.
Great video, you really demystify what can go wrong with an automatic transmission on a "modern car"! Unfortunately, I bought Ford's line about not changing the transmission fluid on my 2011 F-150 until I saw one of your videos. I did it at around 134K, but I drive very gently and don't pull a trailer, so hoping that it will go over 200K miles now. During the fluid change, the mechanic said the fluid looked pretty clean, and the magnet had normal break-in shavings. I will change it close to 60K miles from now on and follow your other tips. Thanks, brother!
This is awesome and simple! Unreal! Thanks Scotty
I really like your tips on caring for our cars, thank you 🙂
Best video in quite some time, thanks Scotty.
"If you hit something" and a picture of Justin Bieber pops up....I almost fell over..
Lol I was going to mention something like that but I figured someone would've commented about it. Lol
Scotty I haven't changed my transmission fluid for over 16 years, it's a Ford ranger 1999 it was built in 1989. Still running great 👍👍
Scotty Kilmer you are the man definitely one of the best most informative Channel on CZcams
Excellent, top shelf advice Scotty, thank you for sharing your tips. You've helped thousands. We really appreciate you !
Thanks Scotty, I'm going to check mine!
You really deserve a Gold award Scotty!
I mix AT - 205 Re-Seal, Lucas Stop Slip Fix and regular transmission fluid and my 94 Celica ST with over 335,000 runs like a dream! Transmission swifts Smooth as Silk.
Thanks for the info, Scotty.
Good one. Most cars have trans temps via ODBII which is great. Separating transmission cooling from that of the engine is something to consider by installing a third party cooler.
Hey Scotty! Thanks for the information on transmission fluids.
WOW, I HAD NO IDEA? THANK YOU SCOTTY , YOU THINK OF EVERYTHING!
Love the rrrr doggy! Hilarious. It really pays to watch Scotty in every way!
Good morning Mr.kilmer, was waiting for ur first video of the day, u never dissapoint, good advise, truthful. I drive automatics, but we have no GOOD machanics here! - England.
-Watched video on YT and the Morgan is still made out of wood.. Must have some good carpenters in England :)
Scotty is such a brilliant guy I didn't think about the alternator battery thing!
Thank you Scott. I am having problems with my 2008 Yukon Denali. Transmission gave out at 168k driving on 40E, going into Nashville. Thought it is the transmission, but had had some battery issues the week before. Looks like this may have saved $3600. I’ll check in the morning.
Thanks
Thank You Scotty! 👍👍
Wow this is a mind blowing video. Thank you
I did my own Flush and filter change on my 2011 Hyundai Elentra. Everything is running fine. It's shifting even smoother now.
Thanks so much, Scotty! I love ya man!
OMW I never knew this! Nearly 300,000km on my Jeep GC LE. They need to teach people how to take care of their cars!
I mean they are, tons of maintenance tips online
hey Scotty, Great video and all good information. Preventative maintenance is always the best to save money and keep your car running at its best. Love the Videos.
I love your tik Tok's they are so helpful!! I really don't know anything about cars and you've helped me so much to understand cars and how to take better care of my car!!
As always Scotty in the auto world: You are the voice of reason.
Another reason to keep your cooling system in good shape is that some transmission coolers are built into the radiator, if the radiator gets too hot it can crack, and if this happens to the passage with the transmission cooler the coolant will get blown into the transmission creating a strawberry milk shake that will dissolve the clutches in your transmission.
😳 After seeing this video I’ve decided to sell my car and buy a bus pass and a bicycle.
Dollar Menu joker
Though I own a vehicle for long-distance drives, I'm always on my bicycle for any distance shorter than 7 miles, which is within 90% of points of interest. Your health, bank account, and the environment would improve significantly. Driving is a lot more costly than most of us think. One retirement guru estimated that the cost of driving is $15 per gollan of gas used, of course, he's adding up the depreciation of the vehicle and other negative externalities associated with driving.
Welcome to Netherlands.
@Los Fromla I'd have thought, California to be ahead of the pack in terms of cycling lanes and walkability. I guess not.

What kind of dip stick designed an automatic transmission without a dip stick.

A young mechanic
Cadillac hid mine underneath the air filter/air tube assembly... have to take it all out to check trans fluid level...
Ive seen them on a fwd, had a red plug in it. Some Hondas?
Also worthy of mention is if you change the tire/wheel size (think wagon wheels), you MUST have the transmission reprogrammed to accommodate the different size. Otherwise, the transmission will slip, creating heat and damaging the torque converter.
Good info I didn't know that
We are all to bless you, Scotty.
The Video Lesson from Scotty Kilmer the Mechanic Knowledges of Basic levels, MUST be included in the High School Program Nationwide in the USA.
I was born and graduated from High School in Ukraine. In High School, I took The Construction Machine and Tractor Operator and Machine Mechanic classes.
I had a license and a profession at 18 years old already.
When I moved to the USA I got a CDL because I know how to do it and have the knowledge of how to do it correctly.
In the USA a millions of children are growing up in families of single moms or
even in a full family where children can not gain general knowledge about how and what to do with their vehicles.
As a result of poor knowledge or its absence, we see breakdown cars on the shoulders of the roadways and they create interference and are a threat to the car owner and all road users.
Thanks Scotty, you're awsome!!!
