  • In this video I will be working on a Dodge Ram 1500 that has an Automatic transmission that won't shift past 1st gear, it has a check engine light and the code is P1756 (Governor Pressure Not Equal to Target at 15-20 PSI). I will show you how you can replace this solenoid and also how you can service your automatic transmission as well.

i just finished doing this procedure on my dodge durango. i was hesitant to do it because my my scanner didn't give me any codes telling me anything was wrong, but all the symptoms you described were there, thank you for you detailed video. I'm happy that I did the job myself because had a mechanic quote me a price for $500 parts and labor. and so far I'm $104 in parts. I say so far because i broke one of the bolts, but that least of my worries now that I know that my trans is going to be okay.

Thanks for this video. I bought a '97 Dodge Ram 1500 8 cylinder three years ago. (love it, a real workhorse). Just recently, at 100,000 miles the transmission began to slip, but mostly won't go into overdrive. Sometimes it does - sometimes it doesn't. The gas mileage is still the same, though.
So, I'm going to get brave and replace the pressure solenoid myself. Listing the tools you used is a big help - I like tools.
Thanks again - great job on this video.

    @StephenJohnson-jb7xe Před 2 lety +8

A neat trick I recently learned from another channel is to use a few cable ties through some of the bolt holes to hold the gasket in place on the pan. Once you have all the other bolts in place cut the cable ties pull them out and put in the final bolts. I guess RTV holds it in place too but it's not always necessary to use RTV.

How can so many people dislike this video? It's an informational video about a specific vehicle. It's to expand your knowledge. If it doesn't pertain to you, why watch it at all? I don't even own a dodge. I'm here to learn and expand my knowledge about the general mechanics of an automatic transmission. Don't dislike a video like this. It makes no sense

That code just refers that you have a transmission problem, it doesn't specify what it is. Look at the description for that code in the scanner, if it doesn't tell you a specific problem like "pressure too low" or something like that, take it to an auto parts place and have the check engine light checked, they'll give you a full diagnose of the problems

I loved your video. Quick advise needed. I have a 2007 Honda Accord 4 cylinder with 5 speed Automatic. Car has 42,000 miles on it. When car is driven on cold day without warming up engine, transmission shifts rough from 1 to 2 and 2 to 3 for the first few shifts. If engine is first warmed up for 3 minutes before driving, then transmission shifts much better. I had transmission fluid flushed and changed at Honda dealer. It didn't help. What would cause this rough shifting when transmission fluid is cold?

Cool Video. I have the 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 with 5.9 Eng and Eng light came on after jumping over a few road bumps, as a result, I got Eng light with 2 code P 1756 and P 0740. So, In search, i saw your video and from start follow what you recommend....... Start the truck with Eng light still on, checked the trans Oil 3 times, it was at the level where it should be, Than i went and shift the gear from P to N then to D after 5 seconds to 1 after 5 seconds to 2,...move the truck little bit each time on that gear and guess what?
    My Eng light went away!
    So, Happy.
From now on i would go slow on the road bumps.
This true, I am not kidding. Eng light went away.

Last night I had this issue, twice, but after pulling over and restarting it, it worked again. Today I've had no problems, but the check engine light is on what could 5he issue possibly be?

Do you have a link to a video on how to remove the reverse solenoid?

    Hello! Nice informative video.
I own a 2010 Ford Endeavour, 5 speed automatic gear box. 88,000 kms on the odometer now. Today I faced an issue when I wanted to park the truck. I shifted to "R" from "D " & I just reversed for a sec & all of a sudden the engine revved. The instrument panel showed that the gear is on "R" but, the knob can be moved forward & reverse, as if the knob is not connected to the transmission itself. Also, after this I switched off the ignition & couldnt start the car again. The instrument panel still shows that the gerabox is still in "R" but, I can pull it back to "P" to get the car started but, I was not able to do that. Seems the computer is not letting to do that as it assumes that the gear box is on "R" position. What do you think ?
    Kindly advice on this.
    Best regards,
    Arvind.

I know this is far past the 32h question time (1 mo), but what would you think to check first for an engine click on an 03 Toyota Avalon, alongside possible power loss and occasional shuddering that vibrates the whole dash? I'm thinking it's a combination of oil gelling and something with the VVT-i, but I'm not sure at all and I don't have the tools to check. Also, when my battery dies the alternator clicks rapidly instead of attempting to turn. Is that a sign of a good, high grip belt or a bad alternator, which might also explain the battery parasite issue I'm having with it? I need external input before I decide to dig deeper on my own.

Hello! Super video! I’m watching this because I just replaced my water pump in my 2002 dodge ram van 3500. It went smoothly and the van started and ran smoother than it ever has. However my transmission is not shifting into 3rd or 4th. Could I have knocked something loose taking the fan or belt off? Any help would be appreciated.
