- I was tagged To show my Cook kit. I have more than one cook kit so this will be a long video! Often times I just grab what ever I need for each trip and that's my cook kit. Not trying to be negative , not trying to get into any arguments but some folks just aint understanding me here. Throughout the years I have created, invented and modified a lot of gear. Having all this extra cookware is the very basis for those inventions you have seen throughout the years on my channel. One has to be surrounded by raw materials for projects and for inspirations to make new gear. Im not plugging store bought gear like other channels do, I create things, and being surrounded by junk helps me do that.

Hi Dave can totally see where you are coming from just like your workshop if gear is laying around you suddenly get an idea of how alter or modify but if put away out of sight you tend to forget about and then miss a golden opportunity to create something fresh, please don't let others out there put off they don't see the potential of what can be achieved

I totally get it Dave, I understand that messing around with all these different cooking sets is part of the innovation and fun that you bring back Home with you after you have been outdoors and have been inspired by ideas that just randomly pop into your Head. Same thing happens to me. I come home and start going to Good Will picking up new treasures to alter and reform into the ideas I've thought of. Some work out, some don't. You get me! We do think a like. You have to be surrounded by items like this for inspiration and raw materials for inventing other cookware or kits. Before this video even hit 1,000 views I was insulted, called pack rat and hoarder. Some don't understand an inventor needs these things to build upon and experiment with. I try my best to help out new and younger CZcamsrs. I remember when I was a small starting out channel how all the big channels ignored me and never helped with the exception of three. Bushcraft Bartons, Sepp at Waldhandwerks and OregonMike. Those three were the only ones that talked to me and helped me back then.
Mr. Dave thanks for sharing. It would take an outdoors enthusiast many years to accumulate a collection such as yours. We call that items tried and trued here in West Virginia. Thanks for another great video sir.

Hi my friend! Yesterday I was busy reorganizing my cooksets and stoves. Today what do I see? Your cooksets! Lol. I love that you have all different types of pots and ways of cooking. Seeing the different ways you use the things around you to make new sets always inspires me to try different things. I love the way you reuse and and give new purpose to things that others would throw away. Keep creating my friend. And keep all those pots and pans ... never know what new and exciting thing you will make with them. Loved this video Dave! Love all the videos from day one!
Hello Cheri! That is wild you was just going through your cook kits. My old mentors always told me when you're in thrift stores, flea markets or yard sales view nothing as junk. View it all as raw materials for future projects! Take care and thanks for watching

39:30 The square skillet you've got there would be great for grilled cheese and french toast too! :) one at a time of course...
Oh it is a lot of stuff! I made that grate to use as a steamer but yes, it would make a fantastic pizza or baking sheet. Ive made a lot of egg n cheese sandwiches in that little square pan!
The old Mirro pot with vented lid was actually a bun warmer. Mom would line with a heavy hand towel with part of towel to cover biscuits. Cover and keep in the oven til dinner is ready. Then it moves to the table and kept covered to keep buns warm. 1960's... Fun video!!!
That's fantastic to know! I knew it was from the 60s but wasn't sure of its intended use.
Might even be older than that since I am 70 now and that was when I was still at home. Sad when stuff you grew up with are called antiques! Love your inventiveness, your straight foreword presentations, humor and passion for even the littlest of stainless steel pots!

When I first saw the screen grab with you & all the pots on the table, my first thought was, is he really going to use CZcams to address his hoarding issues! Then I saw where you went with your presentation. I am amazed with all your creative brilliance in mashing up some great solutions for taking mundane cookware & using it outside to smooth out the rough outdoors. The time flew by while watching & I just experienced an internet 1st with your grand finale - all I can say is your pot bag/balaclava/pillow gizmo just might also work as a pet Chinchilla sleeping bag & camp hammock nest thingy. Just sayin! Great video!

Honestly, if I know a bit in advance and it's during low season I would seriously consider flying out from Sweden. Man's got some seriously quality stuff!!
Dave you inspired me to make my own stove! I took an empty steel gallon container, like the square kind paint thinner comes in, and cut it into a movable firebox and stove. There's a flap cut out of the back to bottom feed wood, and the handle is a hollow piece of steel tubing I can use to blow in the fire, with tent stakes bent as hooks. Then the hooks swing down and act as legs to stabilize it.
Thank you for showing me that homemade camping supplies can be as good or better than what you can buy. It was a lot of fun to make and I can't wait to take it camping!

What a fantastic video, I love going to garage sales and thrift stores with an open mind looking at stuff thinking what can I do with that, and getting it for 50 cents. and then modifying to your needs. I love things like old thermos bottles 18 Gage food grade the bigger the better cutting them open taking 3 sizes 1 l, 750 ml, 500 ml making 2 nesting pots and a cup and using a wide mouth Bass spreader to hang them over the fire. some times if your lucky they have their lids with them and you can take it apart separating it into 2 cups or 2 bowels you are only limited by your imagination.

A superb vid Dave. As you say, over the years you have gathered about you an innumerable amount of kit! Pots, pans ovens and cook kits of all descriptions. Many hours of CZcams video is contained in them. It never ceases to amaze me when you come up with a grill or pot to use in situations that I can’t ever imagine. Another great video. You have the Crown Jewels of camp cookware! In awe really. I actually have the same small square pan. I love it. I Use it all the time. Your fish mouth spreader bail trick was my fav. I just use a piece of bent wire hanger for a water bottle bail. Your idea is much better. Great informative video!

That Rival bake pot, mine actually came with a small grill like thing that you put in the bottom of a crock pot to set it off the bottom to bake bread etc. Thrift shops are the best shopping place to find treasure. Ya.

Always love to see a new video from you David!! I think a lot of us are dedicated 'collectors' of gear or would-be-gear.. I've brought home so many weird pieces of stuff from the kitchen section of the thrift shops 😜😜 it's ridiculous! I started bringing back sturdy loose pot lids to match with the stainless bowls I had kicking around.. lol .. my cook sets are a mix of store bought pieces and home-cobbled parts.. they all work well for what I'm trying to get done.. that's all that matters! I threatened to send you some of my extra weird bits before.. now I'm not too sure you'd have ROOM for them 😂😂

Hi Dave, Enjoyed your presentation. I like junk! I have collected many items of intrinsic value that I consider to be raw material. I have used this material to fix,repair and build items around the home and property. The latest project was a machinery shed roof repair. I had collected barn beams that I saved from a friend that was about to use them as fire wood. I traded fire wood for them. They were stored in my 1850’s vintage barn for potential future use. Some folks might consider that I qualify as a “mild” hoarder, including my wife! Fact is that I have saved many dollars and helped many of my buddies by providing them with the junk they need to complete their projects with material that would have ended up in a landfill. I appreciate what you have done with your collection. Keep up the good work.

I have that Rival pot!! I took it camping in the fall and cooked in it, worked great!! I have one of those collapsible veggie steamers, have not tested it in camp cooking though. just started uploading my tag video

One of the things I enjoy about your videos is the diy stuff. You inspire me to build gear, and that’s fun. We build 200’ aluminum boats, so the scrap is endless. Built me a version of the hanging table from your tree grill. 2 piece that’s connected and doubles in size when opened. And it can be configured in different ways with holes that I drilled. Maybe one day I’ll get a video on the line. lol. Thanks for the inspiration D.

At about 20:00 I think those handles are made of Bakelite but it must have been one of the very last production runs because modern plastics were dominating before than.
That's the name I was trying to remember!

I tried cooking in a hide-out location, All my friends knew where I was from the food cooking. Now I raise it up a tree to cook in a self contained cooker I saw you make. Just need to figure out how much fuel to cook the meal, I drop in lit coals and pull the rope so it hides up a tall tree. Now it does not hang in the middle of the tree ready to catch it on fire. but now the smell of cooking food is so scattered in the wind. Invaders may never find it. Like I say, figure out the fuel so it cook but does not burn. You may need to let it hide till the cost is clear. Thanks Dave

OMG David!! Lol... You are amazing to me. You have showed me that you can take a piece of junk, which I love old junk & I have to much of it like you do, & create a usable piece of equipment. I yell at my husband when he takes a load of medal to the junk yard. Then down the road we need something from that junk he hauled off. I rub it in his face everytime Lol..
I try to get him to watch CZcams videos & tell him all I have learned from it & he just don't get it that I'm trying to make his life easier for him. Example like rain barrel catchment for chicken water. One day he'll learn the hard way.
I've seen your videos on those homemade bowl system & have enjoyed all the videos you've done. My welding is not good at all. I've caught things on fire before. I'm self taught to. But sometimes I've surprised myself also. It's like my whole life I've watched it done 10 thousand times & when I finally got to try it I mastered it the 1st time. It was cleaning a fish. I did 10 perfectly. I was 50 yrs old & my Dad or husband wouldn't let me try, bc they didn't want me to f it up. I showed them up. Proud moment I'd say as it patted my back. Lol... But my Dad never got to see it before he died.
There's something we have in common David & that's we like little cute things. Lol... Everytime I see something little, like a medal box, I just have to buy it. I have so many little trinkets in the China hutch & my houses rooms it's getting out of hand.. hehehe... Oh well I guess there's other bad things people collect in the world.
There's 1 thing I'm going to add to my cook kit & if I can find one like you have is that cool baking vessel at the end of your video. The one that looked like copper & the lid was hard to get on & locked in place & you said it was old. I would love to owe one of those for bread. But I do make a mean fry bread already. But I hate the grease. So if I'm at the thrift store & I see one I'm going to grab it & not let it out of my sight... lol...
Well I'm going to quite but I could go on & on about this video. I've learned a lot of things from all of your videos & it's been a blast watching this one. You never let me down on any of your videos. You keep me entertained from start to finish.

Chris we think so much a like its scary! Yes, most of this stuff is for modifying or butchering for future projects. You never know what you can make out of stuff. That Rival cake n bake pot you mentioned can be found on Ebay or on thrift stores. Use wood or plastic spatulas and that coating will last forever if you don't scratch it. How ever you ues it over a fire always make sure the bottom and sides never touch the flame. Stick it into another vessel or container and surround it by hot air, not flames. Took me a couple days to watch this, but I did get through it all... As usual, very logical and useful gear. I always pick up any stainless I see at the thrift stores, some of my best gear. David, you're a hoarder. Sorry, my friend, it's true. How many of any one thing do you need? Break the addiction, sell or make give aways to your many fans. If you cant do that, then sell it. I'm certain people would pay you for items, even though they are used. Better yet, open an online store and make a market for your gear! You're tired of being surrounded by concrete and steel and given a paycheck every week then don't waste this opportunity to put your talent, knowledge, and love of the outdoors to use. Market what you know and love. People will thank you for it and appreciate you for what you give, with advice, even though you make a living from it.
I say keep it all. Collecting cookware is fantastic.
There's a difference between a hoarder and an inventor that is surrounded by raw materials for inspiration. All this "junk" you see helps me bring unique one of a kind items to life.
I agree 100% with MrOldclunker! It ain't about money. It ain't about "marketing". It ain't about investing. It definitely ain't "hoarding". I didn't see stacks of trash and items that are truly junk with no useful purpose for retaining. Saw a collection of gear to be appreciated. (There's nothing wrong with being a minimalist, if that's one's passion.) Saw a man enjoying his hobby. Different from golf in that he can keep the results of his efforts. Can't say the same for for folks who can't avoid hitting golf balls into the water hazards. :-)
FWIW: I have a plastic tote filled, as he filled his big SS pot. Yes, it even has a coffee measure, or 2 in it. lol Also, have one of those Comet coffee pots. Purchased mine, new, sometime in the 70's. I ain't a hoarder for keeping that coffee pot and other coffee makers in my collection! Love coffee. Nuff said.
