The ISU-152 is a 152mm SPG that was designed to go head-to-head with fortifications. In War Thunder, it mostly just destroys Tiger and Panther tanks.

Attempt number 11 at getting Spookston to play any tank with a dozer blade. The catch is he has to dig in before engaging enemies. Movement around the map is allowed, but he has to dig in again before reengaging.

As a self proclaimed ISU expert: 1:36, you should never aim at Panther's mantlet with this gun (122 also). Always go for the UFP unless the Panther has the high ground.
Also I guess that's the closest I get to see Spookston play ISU-122S so I guess I'm content :)

That’s a good majority of Russian APHE shells. It has excellent angle pen and I thought spookston was going to shoot the UFP too but he just had to gamble with the panthers mantlet. Several games later he killed a panther by penning the side cheek of the turret at a very obtuse angle. Russian APHE shells are crazy. Lol
As a German main I can vouch for this, mantlet pens are rare, but any tank above 5.0 will go straight through your front
2:07 Makes me so happy to hear someone call out Panthers for once. People complain about the T-34's driver's hatch, meanwhile the Panther is MADE OF DRIVER'S HATCHES. The turret is absolute volumetric hell, and the UFP is impenetrable for most guns, and resistant to rounds that are supposed to go right through it (looking at you, 122mm APHEBC).
Massive skill issue, 122 goes right trough ufp IF its not angled, and mantlet is easily penetrated if you shoot in the middle where its flat. I never had problem with panthers, its a cake for american 76 and russian 85, only problem here are whiny noobs that are crying just because they cant lolpen anywhere.
Meanwhile nobody is saying a word how KV1 ate 152mm ap to the mantlet.

The panthers only place where you cannot shoot it is the mantlet
It used to be different though, a lot of shells bounced of the mantlet into the hull before volumetric shells, which is why one of the higher BR Panthers is literally just a Panther without shot trap
That said
Yeah its just silly. I have had too many of my own 88 mm long barrel be soaked up by machine guns. Like shooting the American Jumbo in its one frontal weakspot tends to get nullified by the machine gun
This whole debacle is therefore merely a product of bad volumetric shells
@@Daddyofdelights Nah the Panther mantlet is tricky w a 76. Yeah under 600 m no problem, but past that its really up to luck because it’s essentially a pixel shot. And this is coming from someone who has nukes with the m4a3 76 and i just got one earlier in jumbo 76 at 7.0, so im pretty damn good with the 76

Hey spookston, thr T-34-85 (D-5T) armor is a little busted rn. You can HE overpressure the crew if you shoot its 85mm HE towards the top of the front plate. Also works on the breech cover spanning the mantlet and turret roof.
Continuing you can Overpressure all crew with as little as german long 50mm HE. Also you can overpressure the driver and machine gunner with as little as German 37mm HEI-T from the 37mm AA (Half-track, Ostwinds, Coelian)
That explains why I was struggling

Gaijin should add the ISU 152-2, pretty much an overkill version of the regular ISU but with a much longer gun. If put into service, it would have been the most powerful tank gun ever fielded, around 18 million joules of energy compared to the M103s 14.5 million. Its penetration could come close to 330mm of penetration, and around 145mm of penetration at 60 degrees.

Judging by the way, your voice sounded this whole video, it sounded like you actually had genuine fun this time around. I’m always glad to see you having fun considering how much pain you put yourself through when making videos for us sometimes. War Thunder is a hard place to have fun sometimes.
Funny thing about the ISU-152, the driver and the gunner are on the left side of the tank, which means if you peak around a corner only showing your gun and an enemy shoots at you, they can't stop you from firing or moving
A lot of tanks have APHE which can still kill your gunner in this scenario even if it doesnt hit him directly

the isu-152 is a different beast as long as you pen you will always kill and the mg on top to get rid of mosquitos
You should check out some of the early Hungarian tanks from the Italian tree. The Zrínyi II and the Turan III in particular are pretty fun and interesting. The Turan has a crazy reverse gear, it can go nearly as fast backwards as it can forwards.
Why Italian tree? Is the German tree too cluttered? I've never heard of Hungary trying to license tank production from Italy. I guess I shouldn't complain. The L33 is hilarious to pilot. One of these days I'll even get a kill with it.

The Cromwell I is a pretty fun one. OK armour for its BR but a tremendous top speed and the 6pdr gun makes for a medium tank that plays like a light (minus the scouting)

You can easily go through the UFP of a Panther at almost any angle when using any of the big Russian B for bias rounds

I think I too have the CAS curse, every match I play there's AD-1 and Wyvern spammers. It's absolutely chocking the amount of planes 1 guy with a Wyvern spawns and theresythe Wyvern backup ☠️
152 can go through Panther's mantlet, it always could.
That critical hit in first match, after killing the su-85 - was a died engine on a plane, you shot at before.
Can you play the JaPzK A2, its really good at 8.7, 4 sec autoloader, gen 2 thermals, laser rangefinder, and APFSDS, with decent mobility, theres even a french version if you dont want to play with german teammates.

You can see pictures of what this thing did to german tanks. There's one where a panther got hit from the side with an HE shell that shattered the hull so badly that it looked like it was made of glass. I also read somewhere that in testing against a captured panther an ap round went clean through the upper front plate and blew the engine completely out of the back of the tank

Hearing dracula flow at the beginning of this video sent me into cardiac arrest
This is one of my favorite tanks that I’ve ever played. The armor is decent when angled correctly, the gun punches through most things at its br and above, it even has pretty good mobility for what it is!
My favorite moment in it was on a city map. I noticed a Japanese Chaffee on my rear following me, planning to blast me to oblivion. So I went ‘round a corner, turned around, and rushed him. The Chaffee panicked and bounced a round off my angled front, where I then preceded to blast him with 152mm of HE goodness.

Been thinking about the ISU-152, been having my fun with the SU-152. Used that in conjunction with the KV-1E to grind the TOG II, and I must say, very fun tank, took the grind out of the grind...

Fun fact about this things HEAT. It CAN go thru a a King Tigers upper front plate. Ive uptiered it to 6.7 before to try and managed to do it once.

I had endless amounts of fun in the SU-152, and so I ended up really liking the ISU-152 a lot as well. I play France and Russia primarily for tank destroyers, and I'm currently at the SU-100. I can tell you this-- getting all of the modifications for the ISU was one of the best feelings ever.

the Avenger is technically an open-top turret, its turret is similar to the M36B2. that ring around the top is just fabric like on the ASU-57

The Avenger died to the T-34 MG because the top of part its turret that looks like a little set of window blinds is actually made of canvas, so the crew can see and not overheat in North Africa.
