I've seen a straight up miracle when I worked in the hospital. A girl was in stage four lung cancer and she asked the x ray tech,a very on fire believer to pray for her. I didn't think anything would happen, but the next day she ran up to us crying with joy,she was healed,I saw three doctors baffled staring at her chart , scratching their heads and rather upset at it all,but she was 100% healed. I've seen others, but that was the most dramatic.

You are confusing who Christ is and what Christ does. That verse indeed says, "Christ IS the same" - however it does NOT say, "Christ always DOES the same thing". Hebrews 9 says, "Christ, having been offered ONCE to bear the sins of many, will appear a SECOND time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him." Using your logic, Christ would be crucified again at His second coming. If Christ "being the same" meant he always DOES the same things - then that's the logical conclusion - that he would be re-crucified. But he will not be. The whole point of that passage in Hebrews 9 is to say, "the first time Jesus came to earth he did one thing - suffer - the next time he comes he will do something very very different." You need to actually read what the verse says. Don't read into the verse what you want it to say.

I respect these men and their answers but. Woah be careful with this one sir. First off the people who questioned the blind man where the Pharisees the very people who antagonized Christ ministry the most. Also after they was given all the proof they still rejected Christ. The truth is as many people have said in the comments you cannot talk about miracles without talking about faith. Over and over in the Gospels we see that miracles did not happen when faith was lacking and they did happen when faith was abundant. So that skeptical mindset is actually the very thing causing you to not see miracles. There is no Biblical reason to be a cessationist it is an unfortunate doctrine built on a lack of faith by well meaning men and women but still unfortunate.. Believing still in God and his Savior but a systemic doctrinal lack of faith in miracle working power.

Sometimes Jesus responded to faith and other times faith was the result of Jesus’ healing (The healing at the pool, the man born blind, etc.) it’s a dangerous statement to say Jesus only acts on our behalf when we exhibit faith. Years ago, one of the pastors in a church I used to be a member of told us a family story about his late grandfather who, according to his words, "had" (as much as any "vessel" can actually have it's contents) the gift of healing, having ministered healing to a lot of people over the years. Late in his life, said pastor's grandfather became ill with a cancer that ultimately took his life, and many people came to ask him why, if he indeed had the gift of healing, had he not healed himself, of prayed to God to heal him, and the man calmly responded something to this effect "but, why, yes, I did prayed to God asking Him to heal me, on several oportunities, and He said he wouldn't". He did eventually die from that cancer, but his faith and example lead many to Christ.

This is a hard question because it depends on what we mean by "miracles".
Throughout the Bible history, miracles, signs and wonders happen to validate a ministry. God created the heaven and earth so people may believe. Moses, by the power of God performed miracles in front of Pharaoh to save his people so they may believe. Joshua and prophets showed miracles from God so people may believe. Lastly, Lord Jesus and His Apostles performed miracles through the Holy Spirit to validate that they were from God so people may believe that this ministry is true. That includes healing and tongues, etc.
"Cessation" means that miracles, signs and wonders already stopped after the Apostles because their ministry is the last one. Bible is already complete, no need for miracles. It's either you will believe or not.
With that being said, miracles by our standards still happen. God can still do miracles. But it does not mean that these miracles is still necessary for us to believe Him because those that are written in the Bible should be sufficient. Remember what Jesus said in John after healing on a Sabbath, Father is still working and so is He. They never stopped working so miracles can still happen.

I think the reason ppl don't have gifts today in america is because we have become very comfortable and well blessed with freedom and prosperity long ago, where we aren't really in need of them. I come from a house of soviet immigrant christians and when the church was persecuted heavily in the USSR, my family told me of the miracles and gifts that ppl had back then. They have prophesies in church from regular, trusted sources that would reveal things like kgb planted "brothers" in church, kgb raids on unauthorized services and so on. We immigrated to the states in the 80s believing a 50 year old prophesy that told of the iron cutain falling and the soviet union collapsing witbout war, and Christians leaving to america. This all came true in the 90s. So I think God knows when to give gifts to people that are in need and I believe his children in China and other places have gifts to survive the persecution they are experiencing.

Continually watering down the power and action of God in the world with and/or through believers. This is why our church sits in pews on Sundays like a book club, rather than changing the world. The gifts of the Spirit have only been denounced in order to appease human ears, rather than "earnestly desiring the higher gifts" and believing that the "power that rose Christ Jesus from the dead resides in you".
It just so happens that the only spiritual gifts that have "ceased to exist" are those that require a lot of trust, obvious signs, a risk of looking foolish, and with your reputation on the line. But ones that only require organization, or developing opinion pieces and other tasks that do not put us in such a position... of course the church says those still exist.
So go to church and listen to the pastor (teaching a weekly opinion piece), while your kids are in Sunday school in the building made for church that takes your money and determines how to allocate it among their pet projects (administration) and be sure to come back next week.
That's it, apparently those gifts haven't ceased: teaching and administration.

I've never met so many people to claim to have true Doctrine but yet the gift of the spirit is dead you need to repent and ask the Lord to show you truth because what you are saying is God has no power that's blasphemy against the spirit of God doubting his ability and this is why you'll never see miracles and even if you did you will be blinded like the Pharisees and scribes where in the days of Jesus it sounds like most of you have become too religious and yourself righteousness it's blinding you to truth. Repent because the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand and yes I do take the Bible literally as I hope you do too otherwise there would be no purpose of the Bible before history book

We almost take in for granted and really God does do miracles everyday, the breath in our lungs the fact that we know the creator of the universe they fact that everyday we have food to eat clothes to wear and if we ever have a hard situation to navigate through the LORD is always there. This series of questions briefly answered is very helpful and edifying.
Is Jesus still active by the Holy Spirit bringing his presence to the church = yes of course. Do continuationists or cessationists believe that God promises to do miracles in all circumstances = no.
Did God do unusual miracles through Paul and the 12 and in the beginning of the Church = yes. Does this mean he does not or can not today = no.
Is continuationism the demand that God do miracles and promises to do so in every circumstance - no.
Is cessationism the insistence that God no longer does miracles today = no.
It's not actually clear what the difference between the positions is here however.
It seems that the definition of cessationism is that big A = apostles not longer exist and that God no longer confers special miraculous gifts on individuals for the formation of the early church and for the validation of the apostolic authority and witness. You don't have to be a continuationist to believe that this is the case however do you?
Is it not possible to believe that God continues to give special leadership (small a - apostle) gifts to the church? We dont call them or identify them as Apostles in the founding of the church sense.
There are individuals with healing ministries and have seen unusually large numbers of miraculous phenomenon during and through their lives. Are they foundational miraculous gifts for the church ? I don't think anyone would argue this. Whether small a apostles or small m miracle workers the works must point to Christ if they are of the Holy Spirit. So does holding a position like this really make you a cessationist or a continuationist ?
Did the Holy Spirit get taken up to heaven or is He still here? Still here and still pointing to Jesus and still doing the miraculous work of salvation and signs pointing to Christ. That has to be so otherwise no one could see Jesus.

You did not employ any scripture to support your statements re your questions. So no substance to your post .Holy spirit is not a person, it is Gods power, or active force. The word for spirit is "pneuma" and context will determine which of 5 different actions/ ways it operates. Wind, an organisms lifeforce, inner dominant feelings, angels, holy spirit and God is a spirit. "Pneuma "comes from the greek "pneo" = to breathe. In the Bible it is defined as "an invisibe force". an extended meaning due to the differing actions it does. Think of a pneumatic tyre or nail gun.

The More awareness (of God grace), the better a tool of potential transmission of God's love. In a full measure of God's grace, the currency of the Ego has no purchase. This is something akin to Heaven on Earth. Only God can render me thus. My part is to orientate myself, consciously, through prayer and contemplation (of God) and acknowledge my humanness (sin) and admit that only He can ameliorate/remove those aspects of my character that are not aligned with His will. An important distinction is to be made between miracles in general and "signs and wonders." The latter is what some people think of when they ask this question. God is not going around today doing massive supernatural signs to prove Himself the same way He did in the Old Testament and in the life of Christ. He still does supernatural healings sometimes and miraculous acts of providence etc., but He is not likely to part any seas or to cast down any city walls any time soon. The stated purpose of signs and wonders (as opposed to more private miracles) was to prove something to the people at the time "So they may know that I AM!" However, we now have the Scriptures and live in an age of faith. We cannot be so presumptuous as to ask God to supernaturally prove His existence today when He has already told us all we need to know about Him. Besides, humans showed themselves perfectly capable of lacking faith in the past *even* when confronted by miraculous signs. There is really no reason for signs at this point.

NB, Acts 2:4, 2:43, 5:12, 8:18, 11:15, 19:5,6. Todays so called healings are at best superficial or imagined and always fail.. In the first century there were NO fAILURES as one would expect since then holy spirit was the power behind them. As the presenter noted there is no prophesying as in the days of the apostles. Todays speaking in tongues is demonic. As Paul explained at 1 Cor 13:8--12, tongues , and prophesying and healings, though it does not specifically say so, would be in time replaced by complete and accurate Bible understanding.

Appreciate and respect his honesty and personal view in this. Thank you!
However, the BIble clearly doesn't say what continues and what doesn't. It says, what gifts He gives us in the body of Christ but He doesn't say He is taking back those gifts - 1 Corinthians 12:1-11. I think the Apostles (big 'A' because only they had a direct encounter with Jesus when He was on earth and calling to lay down the foundation of the church with correct doctrine) had a specific calling. But that doesn't mean people don't receive the gift to plant church. I consider planting churches as apostolic (small 'a') as well, prophets do exist today as well as Paul encouraged us to earnestly desire prophecy (in fact the word literally means to' lust after'.) - 1 Corinthians 14:1, Ephesians 4:11-13. The Scripture also mentioned, the word 'some' in Ephesians 4:11-13; that means, not everyone functions in this specific ministry.
Just because not everyone function in this form of ministry, does not mean it has ended already. We are the Body of Christ with different roles, calling and functions, and i don't think it has been affected by timeline or a specific someone. This is because the gifts don't come from men but from the same Spirit - 1 Corinthians 12:12-31
Obviously, no one can produce another epistle that can be canon for Scripture/Words of God anymore. That is because that is the direction of the Holy Spirit to set the foundation of the church. The foundation of the church has been done already. We are now carrying forward what has been done so that His Kingdom will never end. We are not building foundation anymore as the foundation has been done already. Ephesians 2:20

Dr. Schreiner’s answer to the question feels more like obfuscation to avoid the the lack of evidence that would make an answer to this question possible. A person doesn’t obtain a doctorate without becoming skilled in the use of data, theories, and concepts. He posits an explanation in the beginning of his answer that he ultimately admits is irrelevant to the answer. In other words, he brings up a debate in theology concerning whether people still receive the gift of miracles from God today. A few minutes into the answer, he then explains that people don’t need to have the gift of miracles in order for God to work miracles today. Well, that makes his 3+ minute explanation of whether people still receive the gift of miracles irrelevant to his ultimate answer to the question about whether God still works miracles today. In answer to that question, he states that he personally believes that God does without citing a single example of what he has considered to be a miracle. The complicated path that he takes in order to arrive at the simple answer, in which he resorts to personal faith, makes his answer appear simply wishy-washy. One does not need a doctorate in order to have personal beliefs that are not based on evidence. The fact that a person who has such a high level of education was interviewed makes it clear that this is an attempt to to give the information that is being shared some credibility beyond the simple mechanisms of faith and believe. One would expect the well-thought out answer of a learned person in the field. The specific reference to an irrelevant debate within the field of theology is an attempt, although an unsuccessful one in my view, to give the illusion that the flimsy conclusion is supported by more than personal faith. The entire video could be shortened to a few seconds: Interviewer: “Does God do miracles today?” Schreiner: “Yes, I personally believe he does.”

@@lacedariel777 I prayed for you and saw a picture of an arch which is a gateway. "Few are they who see the way to eternal life, but for you, you are blessed in that you can see it clearly. The boundaries of your life will grow but in Christ Jesus, and you will see that He who dwells within you is greater than the world that is without. You will find His kingdom grace, His grace that will guide you, strengthen you and empower you to do His perfect will, which is acceptable."

I worked most of my life in the medical profession and we have seen things happen that there is no explanation for other than a miracle.

It is very hard to clearly understand this term in English. However, in Chinese, miracles means traces of God, and the traces of God are everywhere. Just observe the history.

If you watch “the last reformation” channel, it eventually gets hard for one to imagine that *all* of the healings could not be real.

It would be nice to have his explanation, not just his opinion. Maybe there is good reason to believing some gifts are ended. Just hoped to find such thoughts here. Opinion would be worth more from someone who is 99% right 100% of the time. Seeing how "unsure" he is about his opinion, what was the point in sharing it?

I think he is taking the biblical miracles literally for what they were then and we don’t see those same types today. I’ll agree with raising the dead from a prayer most likely doesn’t happen in that way. I think the miracle is what happens in someone’s heart in an instance when that said person gets a divine push to pay someones debt, mortgage, hardship or picking someone up financially or emotionally. That would be a miracle because it comes from the inner most place of our hearts and that to me is where the holy of holies exist, where God resides in us.

I have experienced a miracle of instant healing only one time many years ago. I was in continual pain then suddenly it was gone. I did not feel it go. But just realized it was gone.
