Before everyone complains about the clutch in the S2000, it was replaced after this track day. That being said, it wouldn't have made this comparison much different.
Speed Academy did you guys remove the clutch delay valve?
@speedacademy. Evo vs Sti is done to death. Try Turbo Legacy vs Audi Rs4 , r32 golf etc
swap drivers around, replace clutch and do a follow up video please
De Kay I agree that's what I was thinking needed to be done, but then again I can't remember did they reuse the AP1 gearbox or install the ap2 gearbox?
I think the complaint would be you could get the s2000 supercharged for the price paid for the zo6. Along with grip mods. What would it look like then?
Now imagine the Z06 all modded as a track car. It’s really on a different level to be fair, it would be more comparable with GT3’s.
Ugh I cringe every time that s2000 shifts
So much slip
God lord! seriously! I'm not sure what is going on here!
They have a delay valve from factory to protect the drivetrain
@@4bangerboi209 Yikes, clearly not the clutch.
I own an AP1 New Formula Red S2000 on 18" O.Z. wheels with Skunk2 headers, TP, cat back, and an FX300 clutch. I also own a C7 Corvette Z06 with Z07 package. I absolutely love the S2000, but the two cars aren't even in the same league. I would say the same for the C6 Z06. The S2000 is a fun to drive convertible, and the Z06 is a true world class sports car.
The S2000 is working its guts out while the Z06 was going dududududu.....
Well yeah 260 hp vs 500 hp
So you automatically assume the only reason it won was because the horse power difference? Seem like you don't know much about the Z06. It's a track weapon and an amazing car all around. Even if you made the power to weight ratio identical in both cars the Z06 still has advantages over the S2000. Much wider tires, solid aluminum chassis, very effective LSD, massive powerful brakes and a wider track.
If you watch the video again he said he wasn't trying very hard and even had AC on while he was racing. If you pay attention you will notice how little his hands had to move compared to the S2000 driver which means a much more controlled chassis.
@@biggboysouth We are talking about a 240+ hp difference. There is nothing to assume.
Power to weight matters
@DoubleC - Than you are just a hater. You only look at the horse power difference and complain but you fail to look at every other aspects of the car. Yes we get it the Z06 has lots of power but it also has better brakes, better chassis, better tire options, wider track width and it's plainly a newer car that benefits from years of racing development research that went into it's design. If you want to continue and be a hater and cry about the horse power being the only reason it won than I guess continue on.
There is a reason the corvette team has so many wins in racing, it's just a good race car.
As a honda fan. and owner of a 01 integra type r.
i would buy the C6 Z06... because i already have a nice honda..
C6 Z06 is my dream car to this date.. i hope to get one near future.
Looked like the Z06 has enough cornering in the technical section, mixed with great acceleration to help keep the gap against the S2000, but once you get to the straights, that's where it really builds the gap. I would take the Z06 any day, it's the complete package and it's one of the best cars probably to romp on at the track without worrying about expensive costs of tracking such a capable car
I mean, the Corvette has always been the little car that could and with the arrival of the 2006 Corvette Z06, it certainly really cemented it into super sports car status. During the Top Gear lap times, it destroyed other exotic super sports cars due to its insane acceleration and lateral grip.
I remember that they were surprised that it was faster around the track than a Zonda
USMCRiptide So do I. Everyone in the studio was in shock and awe. With the C6 Z06, it really brought the Corvette to an even higher level of super sports car.
Eedo 123 you can pick up a Honda S2000 for £9000
dash captures of Vermont C7 Z06 no longer overheats with a manual transmission
As a honda/acura fan boy. i LOVE the C6 Z06.. my fav car of all times
Zo6 for sure. Funny thing is the s2000 has become so popular again that you can find them at the same price as some corvettes. As much as I like vtec that ls7 sounds glorious.
The only people who hate C6 Z06's are the people who have never driven one...
The truest of statements.
They do handle but you cant fix how they look
Shane Massa - there are people out there that think toyota priuses look nice. Looks are subjective and all personal opinion. I for one think the Z06 (not so much the base) looks good. In stock form they are eh ok but once they are a little lower and with some nice aggressive wheels and a few trim bits they look awesome.
its ugly imo
But have you driven a properly setup track s2000?! I really would like to experience a C6Z06 though.
Would love if y'all built a Z06 😏
Keep doing this series! Idk why these never came into my feed! I’ve watched like 4 of them and love them! Haha
Love these comparison videos, shows how lightweight and half the power compares to the Corvette. Great video!👍
Honestly I'd take the z06. Really all you need is some seats because they are trash for racing. The z06 limits are way over most drivers capabilities. So you can grow way more with that car being completely stock. Plus you won't need to make it unreliable with boost.
Spot on.
USMCRiptide
Preach !!!
You can buy an S2K with decent suspension setup a clutch and a supercharger for way less than 35k. ZO6 is a beast too can’t go wrong.
a z06 goes for around 35k lmfao
All that work and your comparing a stock z06 lol its obvious which is a better car
Chris Meneses think he was saying for the same price you could get a supercharged s2000. Don't know how safe I'll feel tho.
@@curtis7595 still makes less horsepower, just put the vette on a diet
@@curtis7595 and turbocharge instead of supercharger
Both are very solid cars and it was a wonderful display of both. Thanks for racing for us.
Awesome, been wanting to see these two square off. As a newer channel hope to some day shot videos like this. Great work!
Great video. We already own an AP1 S2000, and it's a brilliant car to drive. I've been thinking hard about adding a Z06 to the collection, so this was definitely a pleasant watch.
This chanel is so underrated. You guys make such good content! Keep it up
Come on people get this channel to 200k, they deserve more.
Yeah, this channel has been struggling to break 200k for a while.
Scott Quattro i liked the video but forget to like... but i did now thanks to you haha
Done
really love thoses comparaison !!!!! continue the good job !!!
I bought two S2000 before. But it is almost impassible to convince me to get another one. Maybe if is only 10K, I’ll take it. But at end of the day, It is just one trick pony. Unless you just absolutely hate horsepower or hate Chevy, you want the Z06. And you can go drag race too.
I enjoy my S2000 because it DEMANDS to be wringed out within an inch of its life to be fast, whereas the Z06 can be driven at 7 or 8 tenths (short shift all day!) and still be fast. Definitely personal preference and comes down to driving style.
Awesome video I would love to see a c5z video also, this is actually two cars I crossed shopped I ended up with a c5z just cant beat what a great all arounder it is!
iconic looks too I own a c6z06 but so easily can say c5z06 looks alot more iconic esp the trunk version (non-hatchback)
Z06 Project? More of this. That was awesome!
Loved this video. Very eye opening. Well done guys
Eye opening? What dod u expect? Lol
Great video, more like this please. :)
You should try and get a hold of a Cayman for a S2000 battle (987 or a gen-1 981), mid engine vs front
Scott I the S2000 is also mid-engined... it’s a front-mid engine car
FMR is a marketing tactic.
Comparison to a Cayman would interest lots of s2k owners, but would have to be a Cayman S, the non-s are slower I suspect (worse brakes too). I've given up wanting one due to reliability issues in the 987.1 and high price of 987.2. Just not worth it I think, I'd rather take an e92 M3. Yes another car with reliablility issues but to me the v8 is on a different level than the small flat sixes porsche puts in the Cayman. The car deserves more power but Porsche only grant it in the gt4
mrunabout yeah a market tactic like 50/50 weight distribution. It works
@@L3THALXFOX 50/50 weight distribution is one aspect of building a car but not a result that every sports car manufacturer works toward. FMR is just marketing to make FR owners feel special and try to claim their cars are MR. That marketing tactic definitely works on those people.
For AWD you guys should find an old Celica All-trac.
Yep thats one beast of a car....
this channel needs more love!
Man that clutch on the s2000 is working lol
great vid!!!!
Love both cars.
I have an S2k but I'd love a Corvette also.
Soo different yet so similar.
Good video!
That S2000 has a desperate need for an upgraded clutch.
Honda is great but man I love the Z06.... Its funny when I was in my 20's honda was choice , now in my upper 40 , Z06 is my choice
Hopefully ypu guys decide to build a corvette. Great replacement for the mullet mustang imo. Love this style of videos.
Props and thumbs up to the guy who owns that c6 z06 for keeping it simple and super clean.s2000 did well against the z06 around the corners clutch was slipping a bit on upshifts but still there is no match between the two in a straight line.as always great content speed acadmey.
Love it guys! I considered both of those beasts, a gen2 viper, and and earlier model nsx. I greatly appreciate both cars you reviewed. I would love to see a comparison of an NSX vs. An s2k. Or an nsx vs. Whatever.
WE've been searching for an NSX but they are hard to find, even more so for someone to let us rip on it.
Amazing video
hey guys, love this format of video, not comparable cars but you still kind of cross shop because same sort of budget... would love to see current camaro v6 1le vs your badass s2000. could be interesting...
Good stuff. I would definitely take the vette for looks, sound and speed.
Great comparison
Really did enjoy the comparison. Made me wonder how they would compare with a boosted s2k.
Short answer... Buy the Z06
When you start modding the LS7, it's totally game over! 600-640 rwhp with heads/cam/intake/exhaust. Lighter wheels and suspension goodies.....mmmmm.
yea but for some reason, at least on hiway rolls, they still aren't that quick compared to the newer stuff with similar mods, camaro, 5.0, etc..
Yeah but now your talking 60k+ for an old used car with mods just to beat up on the track lol
@@chrisvig123 They go for $30-35k USD here with lower mileage. Heads/cam and bolt ons are about $6500-7500
supercharge a S2000 and you can get to 600whp too lol
@@philspaghet yeah then you can only do 1 lap with it ... have seen how bad boosted s2000s are on trackdays .
“Does pretty well against it” gets pulled air planes lengths lmao
PT was racing his butt off out there, looked like so much fun that I had to really consider that S2000. But the power and overall potential of that Corvette is too much of a siren's song for me to ignore, so I pick the Kentucky Wonder for the win! Great job Speed Academy, interesting track battle!
Is this comparison a bit pointless or its just me?
Demios Truly pointless. I’m shocked, shocked that the Vette is faster and the s2000 is fun.
haha this is embarrassing... I feel ashamed one of my cars is being compared to this thing. I outpace Lamborghinis and Ferraris with it. Nuff said...
l love them both... would love to see a e30, e36, e46 vs s2000
Time to make the S2000 put down 500hp.
Pleeeeeaaaassseeee do it. Such a cool car
Not familiar with S2K or the channel but the clutch sounds like it's slipping bad on shifts. Cool video, new subscriber.
BTW I love those track battle comparisons
yeahhh track day video!
I would love to see a C6 corvette project car... would love to see what some suspension and weight savings mods would do.
now imagine the Z06 with similar mods as the S2000
The s2k was basically stock. They just that quick. Boosted whole different story
@@AndyMartin92Actually no the s2000 was not stock
Now imagine any GM "supercar" vs new NSX :)))
@@CorvetteLife on Panioniaring I lap 2 to 2.5 secs a lap slower than full Porsche GT3 Cup cars with my modded z06 (suspension, tires, wheels, brembo brakes, better heads intake cam, CF hood&tail and CF Wing/Splitter). S2000 is a good car but on track one would need to spend alot of $$ to come close to a modded z06, people dont realize how light C6 actually is.
Was the clutch still buggered on the S2k? She didn't sound too hot...
That clutch
Good run!
Not really a race but it just goes to show how good a Z06 really is
Another badass2000 video, yes!
vette. Vette handles amazing and its stock. Pulled a 7:22 at the Ring and look at the laguna and VIR track times. It pulls easy over a 1G on skidpad stock. The only thing is all the money into the s2000 where would it go from there. Vette stock , doesnt even have sticky tires , pads , brake oil , a tune and some exhaust. Then move toward coil over etc.. Great comparison and honest talk. Love the channel.
*I even have the A/C on; Priceless.*
So, a modded S2000 versus a stock Z06 and it was still a walkaway? I may have missed the years and mileage on both so I'd be curious. I've had almost 30 cars (a few Corvettes - last two Z06s) and the handling on the Chevy is what surprises people most. It's incredibly well balanced. I test drove S2000s for the first few years of production because I liked the looks and was looking for a convertible but the thing was just a slug. I had to keep the engine revving so high to be in the "powerband" that it became a chore. After a few test drives I just gave up. Great looking car, and lots of fun when modified, but not a real challenge on the track for a Corvette, let alone a Z06. Fun post. Cheers.
The s2k is and has always been a great 10/10ths car, I love driving them they are one of the most satisfying little back road rockets .
I miss my s2k so much. With zero mods, you've got a full blown track car. So much fun in the twists and turns out of the factory.
Also, if you added boost to that Honda, it would have the Vettes lunch.
C6 ZO6 is on a whole other level...only argument for the S2000 is that is will be more forgiving, a C6 ZO6 will make you pay for your mistakes on the track
a c6 Z is more than twice the track car a s2000 is. Even stock, especially if you consider any track day guy is going to immediately do tires and pads. A c5z is a better track car. This is why they are consistently on the podium in club racing. the potential, the aftermarket support.
"I'm trying people I'm trying people", it shows buddy, it shows :o
In my experience, on track days a Z06 just like that one in front of me would gain about a 1/4 of a second every lap (on 1min45s ish track). By lap 10 the gap was just too wide. And I'm on a '17 Mustang GT.
...and new Corvettes, forget it. They are rockets.
Great vid, I'm an avid S2000 fan as a kid since it first came out, revving so high and all.
Do a zo6 track build
I like both of the cars . But if you put the super charger set up that lht performance uses giving the s2k around 460 whp , it would be a awesome battle .
These chaps need some LHT TLC!
I agree supercharging it would make it faster. But the handling dynamics would go completely out the window.
Watching the video, they had problems putting down 260hp in the turns, with a slipping clutch AND with aero.
They were using 4 year old worn rs3's. A set of new extreme performance summer tires would change that. Z06 still faster though. That super charger wouldn't change much of the handling tbh. It'll be more nose heavy but that can be fixed with some suspension tweaks.
It’s just that the costs associated with FI on an NA motor add up fast; if you want a track monster. Doubling the hp on a 2.2l means adding a bunch of safeguards like air oil seperators, heat exchangers, transmission coolers, oil coolers, upgraded radiators and I would still be uncomfortable running even PS4 tires on a wet sump on a car designed to 2 decade old street tire technology.
Nice race boots DP!
I'd do base c6 to cut cost even more and use the price difference on suspension and tires, maybe even some bolt ons
A couple of weeks ago I got a chance to drive a S2000. The first thing I had a problem with was how cramped it is for bigger folks. I'm 6'4" and 260lbs. It's so small I couldn't enjoy the car. The Vette is much better suited to me.
Listen at 260lbs it isn't the car that is small it's you that is big....
No fucking shit. Who would of thought the bigger car is better suited for a bigger person.
I'm 6ft 4 and fit in the S2000 just fine. Got a bucket seat and made a custom rail to mount as low as possible and I was good to go! Agree that the stock seats are trash though
There ya go........needed mods for you to fit lol.
Not a option for me since it was a customer car.
It did feel like a good car otherwise.
You probably had microphone issues because you used the "Quick Capture" with the Gopro Hero 5 or 6 (Assuming you're using a Gopro). I recently tried to vlog on my motorcycle and used that "Quick Capture" feature and my external microphone did not work. It also did not capture any audio at all (Just like what happened in your video).
Apparently Gopro knows this issue, they even stated not to use the Quick Capture feature when you're running an external mic.
Nice!!
Only the most technical circuits would go in favor of the s2000 versus a c6 z06. As someone who has driven both with and without modifications, all of them have enormous potential on the track. You would need to tune the S2K featured in this video a bit more especially power/response-wise to have a solid chance on these types of multiple straight types of circuits. Cool video though. Thanks for posting.
Thank you for this comparison. I was dead set on buying a C6Z till I drove one. The steering felt like a truck. Hated it and was a complete deal breaker. And before you say I drove a lemon, it was a cherry '08 example with 10k on the clock. I'll stick to slower fwd Honda's because I value the experience moreso.
In what way did it feel like a truck? I'm seriously asking, not arguing. I've driven one lightly within the past year and that was not my impression but it's also been a fairly long time since I've driven any Honda.
The FWD Honda's are over boosted and light to make up for torque steer. Where as the z06 is heavier but gives way more feedback.
That's GM still going to the truck shelf for parts. I had a 1970 camaro the clutch on that felt exactly like the clutch on a 2012 solstice.
The LS motor is a piece of art.
Hot dam you wouldn't believe it but these are the cars im trying to decide between i was really surprised by how well the s2000 pulled at the beginning of the drag race I didn't think it would do as well as it did but im baseing my pick on wich one is funner to drive they make a 50 state legal supercharger for the s2000 it would be interesting to see a rematch
Nice match up
I already have an s2000 so I'd get a z06 one of my dream cars
The c6 z06 has become such a popular track weapon, a lot of guys were buying the c5 z06 but with the c6s becoming affordable it’s a no brainer. Been seeing the grand sports as well which is a badass car too, good all around car for that weekend warrior kind of guy.
As far as tracking recommendations. How bout something euro AWD. Would love to see some Audi love. Thanks for all the videos.
I'd like to see you guys put my Camaro up against the S2000 I used to have the S2000. Loved s2k but need a little bit more room and still similar set up. Camaro was the way to go for me. My Camaro is a naturally aspirated a 6.2 no internal mods just bolt ons and some suspension modifications with wider tires and rims lmk
Would you guys do a base C6 vs S2000??? I think that would be really good
S2000 VS BRZ would be a great race!
Also S2000 vs a C5 Z06 would be a little more competitive although the C5 will more than likely still take the win but not by as massive of a lead.
where can i see the z06 track attack video he mentions in the vid?
I bought a Lingenfelter C6Z06 acouple months ago. Paid $37,000 for it. The car at DYNO and at 535WHP. I’m spending about $12,000 on suspension, brakes, rollbars, tracks seats etc. For $50,000, I am going to end up with a car that’s going to be faster than almost anything at almost any track. I love how late this thing is!
nice!
I’d love to have both! But I love NA high reving cars.
you can change heads cam (better lighter valves and springs) and rev z06 safely to 7250 and still makes power after 6000 so you can shift 7000 allday.
There's no comparison in power between the 2. Let's be clear about that. I respect the z06 for what it is and what it can do. Heck, i had a major fascination with them growing up to the point where I said I wanted one (along with an S2000) in my dream garage. However, the S2000 has a slipping clutch, 4 year-old rs3 tires, and half the hp. Not a really good comparison of you ask me. But hey, you can't argue with results! I'd still have the S2000 over the Z06 though.
Would be interesting to see what s2k can do with a new clutch + the most hardcore street legal R comps vs this Vette
We did run the S2K with a new clutch and fresh R comps and it is still 2 sec a lap slower.
And the Vette isn't even on track day tyres... At the end of the day, the comparison was a "For the money" versus. Z06s (C5s included) are just insane value when you can afford to buy/build/maintain in that 20k to 40k range. No questions about it.
I'm actually shocked the S2k got that close. A stock S2000 CR was some ~17 seconds behind a Z06 Corvette of the same year around VIR (which is a big track, but still). By the time Z06 got the Z07 package it widened the gap to 21.5 seconds.
From my experience, fast cars are defined by how good of a driver you really are. s2k will continuously challenge you against people with more power and the z06 will challenge you to harness that power and keeping it on the pavement. You can easily fail with both cars and you can easily be rewarded by both. I say if you are an inexperience driver, s2k is the best for you for learning everything you need to know about how the car behaves, and z06 if you are ready to tame a wild beast that will punish you if you get too happy and confident.
I own an s2k and im honoured that its in the same video as a Z06
How about s2000 vs the mullet mustang? Mod v mod. Just get a vented fiberglass hood to keep it from overheating.
I neeeeeed to see badass2000 vs the frs!!
Max Swagg frs will smoke it.
2burning2turning you on drugs bro? Fuq your frs would literally blow the doors of that frs the sht out
2burning2turning LMAO
Johnnyboy JDM can you read? Because the frs is clearly faster on the leaderboard.
2burning2turning go see a video of a frs beating an s2k here on youtube stock to stock i bet my balls you wouldn’t dumbass
I have driven a c6z06 and that car is a beast. This is coming from a guy that drives hondas on the track. I have to be honest I really though it would be sooo twitchy on the corners but with good tires that thing hooks up well.
I stand 6 foot 2. I have a very difficult time trying to drive the s2000. That said I would take the vet everyday all day.
What is up with those S2000 shifts?? Slipping clutch?
The Honda feels fast and the Corvette is fast
I've had both cars and like most I considered adding power to the s2000 before moving on, but adding power isn't as simple as slapping on a super / turbo charger - how will the car be able to put down that power coming out of turns (especially with the short wheelbase of the s2000), how reliable will the F2xC engine be at Z06 level power (keep in mind the LS7 will still have a torque advantage [more area under the curve]), but most importantly how well will the s2000 chassis interact with that drastic of a power increase.
The Z06 had factory R&D and engineering behind making the chassis work with that kind of power level. One can spend all the money and research into building a stock Z06-killing S2000 for sure, I have no doubt, and for some it's more fun doing things this way; the whole "BUILT NOT BOUGHT" mentality, I completely respect and understand that.
The Z06 is already that capable in stock configuration and you can add a warranty on it with all that performance. Plus what happens when one mods the Z06? Just as there are cars that will completely destroy the Z06 stock for stock / mod for mod - the Z06 isn't the best thing since sliced bread, it's just a massive value proposition for its out-of-the-box performance envelope.
Now that's not to say I don't miss the s2000, as I miss it every day. The Z06 does not "react" as quickly to driver inputs as the s2000 IMO as it's a bigger and longer wheelbased car, and driving an s2000 top down in the canyons is an experience that cannot be replaced in its entirety by the Z06 IMO. In the perfect world I would have both cars, and I would enjoy the hell out of an s2000 near its factory power level, as it was intended to from the factory. Driving a slower car faster is more often than not more fun than driving a faster car slower, and the s2000 is an absolute sweetheart in that regard.
Flame suit on.
Top post, thumbs up!
Agree there is no need to boost the s2k, enjoy it in it's purest form - N/A
You had the Old RS3s the s2000?
