A four day motorcycle ride following many of the Idaho and Montana rivers. This is a bucket list ride for any motorcyclist. Motorcycle: 2020 Africa Twin CRF 1100L Adventure Sports
Only thing I don't like about this is that now all the stuff that no one ever knew about is getting famous. I liked it better when everyone thought Idaho was one big potato farm.
My great grandfather homesteaded on Iron Creek 19 miles south of Salmon. He built a barn that is still standing along Hwy 93 just south of Salmon close to the Salmon Airport in 1916 , shortly before he died. He is buried at the Lambeth- Hussey Cemetery At Iron Creek, just south of Elk Bend, Idaho
1981! That's awesome. Are you still getting out? I was 8 yrs old in 1981. My sister, 59, is one day away from completing a coast to coast bicycle ride. I did it in 2016 on my bike. I hope you're still active
I've ridden US-93 from Missoula into Idaho and US12 ( Lolo Pass) several times as well as having driven US 95 from Lewiston to I-84 in a semi truck several times. Absolutely beautiful part of the country and well worth the drive/ride regardless of your mode of transportation.
Lolo Pass is at the top of my favorite rides. You know it's gonna be good when you see the sign at the top of the pass notifying you of a twisty road for the next 99 miles. Been on all these roads (except for the dirt) and this is a great ride. Thanks for sharing.
I've ridden northern Idaho several times and was surprised at the great motorcycle roads there as I rode through Kamloops BC on the way down from Alaska into Idaho. Nice video and some new roads to ride hopefully one day soon.
Beautiful scenery with the canyons and rushing streams. My daughter used to live in Great Falls, Montana, which I had the opportunity to visit. Loved the "big sky" country. Very enjoyable video, thanks!
We did part of that route. 2009 ride meant 2400 miles for 9 nights and 8 days. 11 brave men and 1 incredibly courteous woman. ONE OF THE GREATEST THINGS i have done
@@troutdogadventures7751 Nevada to Colorado. 8 states we were on a fire road in California. The ranger asked us if we did the entire trail. He said he wasn't on that road in 5 years
Great job on this video, enjoyed the tour. I've done a bunch of these roads touring out of Oregon over the last 45 years but I've never done the Salmon to Lolo bit. Guess I need to head that way again. Thanks!
Very well done video and commentary. I just got back from a planned motorcycle trip through these areas, but unfortunately we had to return back to Cd'A and take the car. Still made the trip going the same motorcycle route and now I will be making a detailed itinerary through this area again. So many times you come around the curve and just say, WOW, look at that. It has to be experienced on two wheels. Thanks for the video!
Living in Indiana and retired I try to get out west on my big rides. Beautiful well done video. This summer 2022 looking at US 89 most or all of it. Been on some of 89 but not much north of Utah. Subscribed.
What an amazing ride. And that's the best way to see it... rain and all. We are riding most of that in July from western Colorado. Heading to Elk City for some R&R. Then headed east towards Red Logde, Montana. Thanks for sharing. Ready for a long ride now!!
The CZcams algorithm read my mind cause I was looking at this route about a month ago on the map. Thanks for the video and pointing out the places of interest.
I cruised along the Salmon River myself a couple of years ago. I loved that short detour to Ramheads by Nothfork. It took me a couple of weeks to drive because I kept stopping at all the free camp spots along the river from Missoula to Sun Valley. Thanks for the video and a reminder of my own roadtrip. I almost bought a place in Kamiah, since it's on the way to the Lochsa, from downriver. I don't think fuel prices are going to come down with the people currently in charge. Besides, a guy just flew into town in his private jet to tell me that your trips are just causing too much harm to the environment and you're just being selfish. You need to own nothing and be happy.

@@troutdogadventures7751 A motorcycle could do our loop, iirc. The USFS roads were gravel but in decent shape. I am checking out your videos for more ideas to travel in your state. This was a very interesting video although it could have been more so how do you stopped in a few of the towns like Darby that you thought would be a great place to stop and also Hamilton was an interesting place with lots of history. Lolo does also have some history and a really nice information center that describes where Lewis and Clark stayed when they were coming through. Lots of the same scenery, but really good.
I did a similar ride. My wife wanted to visit her sister in Boise. We live in NE MN so my wife flew to Boise and I rode. It was all freeways and high speed as I earned and Iron Butt Bun Burner, Silver. 1500+ miles in less than 30 hours. We spent four fun days in the Boise area and when my wife flew home, I slowed the pace and rode up to Kooskia, then to Lolo and Kalispell for the night. This was at a much nicer pace. From Kalispell the next day it was the Going to the Sun Road through Great Falls and on to Glendive. The next day I returned home. US 12 was the the best. The Going to the Sun was fun, but I enjoyed the near solitude of 12 more. Great video, I enjoyed it thoroughly! Here's my video, but if I had it to do over, I'd narrate it rather than songs. Good story and nice video! Thanks for watching.
I hang my hat in Boise, and will ride this summer. Thank you!
You'll like it - plenty of options to make it shorter or longer. Here's a link to the actual route. tdnotion.com/links/
Awesome
Nothing beats my home state
I agree! Thanks for watching.
Have you got that whole route posted somewhere? I'm planning to visit a friend in Hailey and would love to spend some time making that ride. Great video, the perfect length.
Thank you so much for watching! That's a good idea - I'll put it up somewhere today and reply back.
I posted a Google map of the route here: tdnotion.com/links/
If in the area, also go see the Yankee Fork gold dredge and the ghost town of Custer. Well worth it!
@@troutdogadventures7751 Awesome, thanks. I've got a buddy in Hailey I'm planning to visit when I retire in 3 years. Looking forward to doing some exploring.
Just found this great video. Thanks for sharing. I might do this exact ride this spring. Any idea about the best time of year for this?
I did it in July, which ended up being a bit warm. If you're not doing any of the BDR portions, I'd say mid June would be perfect. Stay (or at least do lunch) in Darby instead of Lolo. Endless possibilities. I need to go back. Thanks for watching! Here's a link to the exact ride: goo.gl/maps/bUngHNCyuH933Fmm9
I did some of this. I loved the two guys with purple mohawks each with two hand guns, one on each hip in Helena, Montana I assumed they were loaded. They got into an argument with a barrista on the sidewalk outside of the cafe. I didn't stick around.
Leaving PA for some of that ride in 48 hours.👍👍
You're going to love it! Keep an eye on the weather this time of year. Ride safe.
NICE!
