  • How we gave this patient his living/growing hairline back !
    He had attempted to regain his hairline using a different hair transplant clinic but the results were not that good. The hairline was made too high and too angular and the grafts used were the old style minigrafts and not modern Follicular Units.
    To repair him we dropped his hairline by using DENSE PACKED follicular units that included the exclusive use of one hair follicular units at the very front of the hairline. The results and improvement are undeniable.

    Awesome result as always!.. Dr feller, Do you recommend treating the recipent site with saline solution post op? Also, which is better for donor scar post op, bacitracin or vaseline. Thanks!

      Thank you, Bill.
      In general no, I do not recommend treating the recipient site with saline solution post op. It isn't necessary and is just a throw back from plug and minigraft days. I also don't recommend putting anything on the donor site either. The body knows what to do, it doesn't need help.

    My concern would be that as he grows older, his other original bio hair behind the front hairline all the way back to the bottom back side of his crown could now start going bald, so he would then be left having a halo effect, or a hair band on the front hairline, and could eventually go totally bald elsewhere on top. That would look awful, I'm sure you would agree? So isnt it better to wait until a man is almost bald enough on top to do almost a total top coverage transplant? Otherwise he will have to go back for more surgeries as time goes on, right?

      Dense packing the front like this was controversial about 15 years ago. Not today, though. With small incisions and better graft handling by greater numbers of techs these procedures are fairly routine. Vascularity problems are always possible but the overwhelming majority of patients have no problem if the procedure is done as a true Follicular Unit surgery and not a mini/micrograft surgery.

      It depends on the patient. A young, healthy patient with minimal loss may be able to handle upwards of 55-60 FU/cm^2 in the frontal regions of the hairline (not all the way throughout), whereas an older patient or a patient with a chronic smoking history or a diabetic patient, for example, may not be able to go anywhere near that density without complications. Doctors needs to plan accordingly before they begin to dense pack on a patient, and they also need to pay attention to the feedback they are receiving from the skin/blood supply as surgery is occurring and modulate if necessary.

    • @fellerandbloxham

      Temple area work is quite common, but because balding is progressive and unpredictable many who could benefit from temple point work opt not to have this area done so that there is enough hair to place in the more important areas like the hairline or just behind. The severe limitation of ANY and ALL hair transplants is donor area. If we had unlimited donor area we could completely restore just about everybody including their temple points.

    I'm assuming this guy is on propecia to slow or stop his hair loss before giving him this youthful hairline. If he's genetically predispositioned to be a norwood 6 or 7 then he would not be a good candidate to have such an aggressive hairline?

    To be honest, I feel like his previous hairline kinda looks more natural than after. The before hairline kinda looks like he's having some hair loss which in my opinion is more normal? Idk maybe I'm wrong

    • @fellerandbloxham
      @fellerandbloxham  Před 5 lety +1

      MrKlassy,
      No, the hairs will not fall out. They are specifically taken from a permanent region in the safe donor area (hair on the sides and back of the scalp) which should be resistant to the hair loss process -- meaning the hairs will stay forever.

    I feel you brought his hair line to far forward. His before kind of looked more natural in the sense despite the bad work. I would had just took out the old job with electrolysis in the front 1/2 and then start feathering in the single units. I am sorry but others might disagree with me. This guy is way to young to do any hair work. 30 years from now things might look real awkward. Because a man in his 50’s does not look like he did in his early 20’s with such a low hairline like that. You don’t know what a patients real pattern will be until his mid 30’s. Other may disagree with me. Why would I know because it happened to me. I did some really stupid things in my 20’s and this was one of them. I tell anyone thinking of doing this is to hold off until you are 35. Doctors are in this business to make money so please let’s not forget that. They say they are compassionate doctors or are conservative doctors when it comes to work but I don’t see it here. I strongly suggest avoid seeing these kind of doctors in your 20’s. Granted the techniques are better these days but a strip procedure will always show the scar unless you have an excellent supply in the back of your head and a very small percentage of males have that very good strong supply. So you can really never have your hair cut short in the back of your head. Some will get shock loss around the scar and the hair never came back and some will have a doctor that did not do a good job in closing the skin. Some have such a bad scar that body hair is used just to fix the scar area because there is no supply left in the back or sides of the head plus putting transplants in scar tissue is not an easy procedure. I am just telling all young guys is to do your research well and read the pros and cons and yes do take in account the stories of older guys who made mistakes when they were younger. I get it, when you are young the fact that you are losing your hair can be very traumatic and when your friends/women make fun or jokes of your hair loss it can be a big blow to your self-esteem but please do not rush into something like this because things might be a lot worse when you become older.

      @dphotos007 Před 2 lety +2

      @John Wiesmer I think these doctors need to show every patient they work on. This kind of operation needs to be very conservative. This operation only works with with those with a very strong supply of donor hair and do not believe one doctor that says you never lose your donor hair supply. As you age it will thin out a bit on the sides and back. Look at Prince Harry’s side and back hair supply and you can see it is thinning out. Genetics can cause the sides and back to thin too. I agree the conservative approach is best. These patients will not look natural when they are moving past their 50’s. I always have to say this, These doctors are in business to make money and they have their rent, supplies, insurance and staff to pay also so I feel they don’t always give an honest answer with every patient. This is just my opinion and patients should also talk to their independent GP doctors to get an independent opinion about the operation and hair supply on their sides and back part of their scalp.

      You may certainly suggest a hairline and then we can work on where to put it together. In the end it mostly depends on the amount of donor hair available.
