    Owned the 18-105mm,sigma 30mm, sigma 16mm and sony 50mm. but the one that i mainly use is currently 18-105mm. It's a very versatile lens and only downside is that it suffers in the low light situation. Otherwise, it's a beast. Subbed to your feed and you found yourself a fan from Malaysia.

    Thank you so very much for making this video. I am so grateful to you for pointing out exactly what I needed to know about these lenses. I will be using an a6400 body and had concerns about OSS as a6400 lacks IBIS. It is strange to me how many lens options there are for e mount aps-c cameras that lack any image stabilization. I found lots of great reviews that helped to demonstrate photo quality but almost everyone I came across neglected to discuss video and which lenses would appear more stable while recording. You made the choice very clear for me after a week of researching non-stop.

    Absolute agree with the lens choice. I also use the Sony 18-105 F4, Sigma 16mm1.4 and the Sony SEL35f1.8 on my NEX-VG30. And if I would only be allowed to keep three lenses for filming, this would be my choice. Although a wide angle lens, you can get a shallow dof with nice bokeh on the Sigma 16 mm. For work with gimbal, the Sigma and also the Sony 18-105 are too protruding and heavy with a camcorder body, and the smaller Sony 35 mm lens has a too long focal length for gimbal work. So for gimbal, I have a small Sony 18-55 mm zoomlens, that does a good job.

    I have the sony a6000 and I find myself loving videography. I have the kit lens and the Sony 35mm 1.8 which is AMAZING for portraits, but not for travel video. I've been looking into getting the Sigma 16mm or the Sony 10-18mm. Sigma is the more affordable one, but is heavier than the 10-18mm. My videos tend to be shaky because I'm using my camera handheld and any added weight effects the shot. So I am ALSO considering gimbals.
    This is an expensive hobby! lol

    • @MountMediaChannel
      @MountMediaChannel  Před 3 lety

      Yes, that's true. I was in a similar situation and I bought the Sigma 16mm. It will give you a more cinematic look and you can take nice closeups with a blurred background for b-roll. But the 10-18 has of course other advantages: OSS, wider etc.

    Hello! Thank you for this video. Definetly one of the best explained about video lenses for APSC.
    I have a sony a6300 and about to buy my first lens but i have some big doubts. ¡Hope you can help me!
    1) if i want to shoot interiors with low light would be enough with a f2.8 or is much better going for a f1.4. ¿Is the difference so big between both and the camera ISO enough for a f/2.8?
    2) If i get a Sigma 16mm with no stabilization... ¿a cage handler is enough to stabilize the image, or a gimbal would always be needed?

    • @MountMediaChannel
      @MountMediaChannel  Před rokem

      It all depends on what look you want to create - if you want your clips to look smooth, I think you need a gimbal. 1.4 is definitely better on APS-C than 2.8 also because of the cool background blur.

    When I tested it on a Sony a6400 body with a Sony NEX-7's 18-55mm kit lens, the focal length I wanted was 30mm. The distance between the subject and the camera is 2m. In this case, with a sigma 30mm f1.4 lens or sony 35mm f1.8 lens, the crop body is about 50mm, so if I want to get the 30mm I want, should I look for a 20-24mm lens? 18-105 is one of the most disappointment lens of mine. Heavy & quality isnt really good.
    I have been through with 16-70 F4 Zeiss & 18-105 Sony G Lense. I eventually end-up with 16-55 F2.8 Lense along with Sigma Trio.

      CZcamsrs push every lens they can for affiliate cash. When is the last time you heard one of these "influencers" NOT recommend a lens?

      Yes - but there is a new and very interesting zoom lens by Tamron (17-70 2.8)

    Sony lenses are overpriced. The sigma make this system reasonable, but these zoom lenses at f4 costing $900-$1500 are ridiculous. The canon EF equivalents are so much cheaper. And then people keep telling you to just get FF because a73 is cheap and you have 2 Cheap Tamron zooms. But they don’t tell you the G Masters and primes are even much more overpriced and often ridiculous and weighs like a mountain. Sony is quite quite over-rated for consumers. Yes, for pros all the features make their jobs much easier, but for consumers it’s a trap. For consumers, the only real selling point is the AF system, otherwise I say stick with Canon EF-S.
