Wanna know the genius of this song? Listen to it every 5 years or so. Every time it will mean something different to you. Each listen.
I listened to it for the first time in years this month and do the words sung hit like a ton of bricks. the stuff I used to think was bullcrap really caught up with me about how fast 10 years comes and goes. made me cry a little as the thought of death bearing down on you is inescapable.
And Roger wasn't even 30 when he wrote these lyrics!
Pink Floyd has sent more people into space than NASA. 😊
Pink Floyd, Headphones, a comfy seat,...close your eyes and enjoy the ride... 🤘❤️
I remember my grandfather saying to me 'time is precious, use it well', when you're 5 years old, a day is forever and a week is a lifetime, that was 1970, now at 58 I wonder where the years went, this song is so relevant to everyone's life
"Every year is getting shorter..." 'Dark Side...' isn't my favourite Floyd musically (that's reserved for 'Animals', 'Wish You Were Here' and 'The Wall') , but lyrically this is just fucking sublime.
@@svartmetallBut this album was number one for an incredible length of time. Years!
i remember listening to this song when i was 20. 42 now. years passed like one day
Do the furthest things first and the nearest last
Sixty two years. I miss my youth this album was certainly a big part.
Time is their most underated song ..and everyone most valuable thing we all get
Play the whole album while listening with your headphones on in a dark room !! So happy you are loving the journey so far !
That's indeed the best way, headphones, comfy seat, closed eyes and enjoy the ride...
We always had a dark room with laser lights set to the music. The 70's were the best!
Welcome. All PINK FLOYD fans are AWESOME 🤘😎💪👊🔥 STAY AWESOME 💯
David Gilmour is the lead singer and lead guitarist on Time. Syd Barrett had left the band a few years before this album was released.
This is David Gilmour singing the verses and Richard Wright singing the alternate parts.
This album is a masterpiece my friend.i suggest having the lyrics available.
Welcome to a time when music was real.
This is from probably their biggest selling album “Dark side of the moon “ hard to believe it’s 50 years this year since it’s release
The reason Pink Floid have long introductions is because they are about the music, not themselves.
Syd was already long gone by then, David Gilmour on lead guitar and vocals, Richard Wright ( r I p ) on keyboards and the main vocals on the chorus
I remember in 1993 In my local pub we were playing a darts match against some fellas from a local social club and this song came on the jukebox and all the old fellas started running out the pub they thought the fire alarm was going off bearing in mind we were all stoned out-of our heads and everyone couldn't stop laughing 1 of the funniest things I've seen in my life 😂😂😂😂😂
You sure the youngsters didn't run out? Us oldies would of recognised it we've been hearing it since '73 😅
@BLew657 very sure the oldies were that old they had signed bibles 🤣
@@vinstar9922 They probably bought those off Keith Richards 😆
'Time Gentleman please '
'Aint you got no homes to to !!!!....'
Old enough to remember it well!!
The 'Nags Head ' the wonderful dodgy/edgy live music pub, my local, for my misspent 70s youth!
The landlord had two Dobermans that he released into the bar at closing time!!...
Great memories!!....
I would give anything to be able to hear The Floyd for the first time all over again.
I've found that different emotional states, points in my life, and intellectual bends at a given time, they all make these new all over again, even as they're so intimately familiar to me.
This album is musical perfection.
Dark Side of the Moon was my introduction to Pink Floyd. I was 19 years old when they released this album, and played it constantly as I read the Lord of the Rings trilogy. So I will always associate Pink Floyd with J.R.R. Tolkien's work. Pink Floyd will always be one of my favorite bands of all time.
Just so you’ll know, Dark Side Of The Moon was on the U.S. Billboard charts for “988 weeks” and went fourteen times platinum in the UK.
The first singer in "Time" is David Gilmour who also plays that ethereal incredible guitar solo in the middle of the song! The second and more ethereal voice is Rick Wright the keyboardist.
Also this album came out in 1973 and Syd Barrett, he stopped being a part of the band in 1968! Reason being, he became schizophrenic and it was possibly brought on by way too much LSD!! They had to leave him behind because he was becoming destructive to the band. He would just play one note over and over or detune his guitar during live shows so on the way to a gig they just did not pick him up one time and that was it!!
Don't fret!!! They did not abandon him at all, EVER!!!; They made sure he got everything he deserved and even helped him on 2 solo albums later on when he seemed to get a little better! At that point he didn't want to be a part of the band anymore! He was worth 6 to 8 million pounds at the time of his death in 2006 so as I stated they did not abandon him!!
David Gilmore is the master of slow intensity and introspection
The lyrics of this song won't really hit home until you are much older, I'm glad you are on the Pink Floyd journey, I hope that you turn your friends on to the journey, as others have stated their albums are meant to be listened too nonstop from start to finish, all of them ! Put your headphones on, lay back, relax and enjoy my friend 🙂 God Bless.
You have no idea how wonderful it is to get to experience them through a new persons eyes…all over again.
Their albums are really meant to listen to in their entirety, from start to finish.
Hate to reach the end of "Time" and not have GGITS start!
@@curtadams7406 Actually I hate to reach the end of Eclipse, because... It was TOO SHORT ! I need MORE !
Not all of them.
@@rmyikzelf5604 "A Momentary Lapse of Reason" being the exception? LOL!
@go-nogo1475 yeah for instance. Or Piper, or Ummagumma. Or Atom Heart, Meddle. Even The Division Bell doesn't tell an overarching story.
Play this at least once every decade of your life. Hits hard always. One day you find, 10 years have got behind you...
Syd was no longer in the band when DSOTM came out. He left in '68. David Gilmour does most of the vocals (and often harmonizes with Rick Wright, keyboardist) as well as guitar. Roger Waters wrote the lyrics and played bass.
RIP Rick, RIP Syd.
btw, there is a new documentary about Syd (and Pink Floyd) called: "Have You Got It Yet?": "The story of Syd Barrett and Pink Floyd."
Hey MollyBoy, this was David Gilmour singing on the album "Dark Side Of The Moon." Syd Barrett's last album with Pink Floyd was called "Saucerful of Secrets" which was released in 1968; the founding members of Pink Floyd were Syd Barrett (lead vocals, guitar and primary songwriter), Nick Mason (drums), Roger Waters (bass and vocals), and Richard Wright on (keyboard, vocals). David Gilmour joined the band in 1967 shortly before the departure of Syd Barrett. Gilmour joined as a guitarist and a co-lead vocalist he also wrote songs for the band. (I hope this helps) Here's another song by a different band, if interested. "The Doors - The End (Toronto, 1967)" --This is Jim Morrison, the lead singer and frontman for the band the Doors. This was fun thanks for sharingpeace out~
Looking forward to your reaction on this. Get ready for another Floyd build up to a great song with hard hitting lyrics and of course a top class Gilmour guitar solo!
Best way to listen to Floyd... Lava lamp on big lights off lay back on the bed and chill.... Mind blowing ❤
If you haven't done so already, you really need to listen to the entire album straight through.
Time hits harder the older you get. Listen again in 10yrs
You really need to listen carefully to the lyrics. There is always an important message, observation or comment that gives meaning to the song!!😁🇬🇧
Amen.
This piece you’ll appreciate and relate to as you get older. The older you get the more it’ll mean to you and the more profound you will find it. It’s outstanding.
The Dark Side Of The Moon was recorded in 1973. Syd Barrett was only in the band until early 1968. Most of the vocals since then have been sung by David Gilmour. In this case, along with keyboardist Rick Wright (as in Echoes, for example). Occasionally (and later increasingly) Roger Waters also sang.
Only occasionally did someone outside the band sing. For example, the next song after Time is called The Great Gig in the Sky. This was sung by Abbey Road studio backing singer Clare Torry. And it's another gem of rock music. It's sung by all three backing vocalists at the Pulse concert. It's also gorgeous, though I clearly prefer the studio version.
David Gilmour does the vast majority of the vocals. Syd was only really on the first two albums PiperAt The Gates Of Dawn and Saucer Full Of Secrets then left due to mental health problems. If I remember correctly, Gilmour came in during that second album. Lead guitar was always David Gilmour after that.😊
For some epic David Gilmour guitar solos I recommend High Hopes (live from Pulse), Dogs, and Hey You. There's so much more but these will give you warm fuzzies for sure. 🤘🏽💗
yes...the slow brun of david gilmour is a thing of beauty!!!
I'd like to throw in a request for Animals for when you get around to whole albums. 🤘🏽💗
Always setting the mood first.... then guitars, it's Pink Floyd, teaching us patience and focus.
if you want to know just how much Gilmour can do with so little, react to shine on you crazy diamond. preferably the pulse version
The whole album is absolutely brilliant!
High Hopes from the Pulse tour is outstanding too. The whole Pulse tour is amazing and you will not be disappointed. Guaranteed!
The two words that best describe David's playing are blues and spacey.
David’s guitar is plugged into his SOUL. Keep the Floyd reactions coming! Love your reactions! Your life will be forever changed listening to this band.
As someone else has mentioned, always try to have the lyrics with you...all their songs are always deep and meaningful. This song will make more sense to you the older you get...trust me on that. The Dark Side Of The Moon is a work of art...a true masterpiece. Once again, have the lyrics drawn up when reacting to it.
The great thing is that I can listen to these songs and it takes me back to some crazy times when I was in high school.
Back in the day when we all got together and listened to a great stereo or quad system doing you know what..............
Also when CB radios were the thing, LOL.
One of the greatest songs ever period
And one of the most relatable the older you get
I was like 18 when I listened to Pink Floyd for the first time, but I wasn't able to appreciate it until I was around 25 or so. DSOTM is indeed a masterpiece, but Animals is still my favorite album.
To hear Syd Barrett you need to go way back to their album The piper at the gates of dawn, from 1967.
Love your reactions to pink floyd, I'm a massive floyd fan and it always make me happy when I see a younger person discover pink floyd
Remember, it takes TIME to get through all Pink Floyd tunes ... they are in no hurry to finish a song. It's done when its done. Just like a good steak.
Heed the message of this song young man. Love seeing your Pink Floyd journey!
You are too young to fully comprehend the significance of the lyrics in this song. When I was your age and first heard this song, I was unaware of the profound depth of those lyrics. Now, after quite a few decades, I can feel the impact of this text. Enjoy yourself while you're young! 👍
Pink Floyd has been my Absolute Favorite Band for over 35 years. Truth!
Hello from Australia again, i left this as a selection after i commented on your Comfortably Numb live version. the lyrics are 100% true. don't stop the journey you won't regret it😀😀😀
That was greatr ,I enjoy watching lads like yourself hear Floyd for the first time , reminds me a lot of myself at your age. Lucky man ,there's loads to come from Floyd. cheers. Pulse, Learning to Fly is immense.
Roy Clark sure can
Syd Barrett was only part of their first two albums. After his mental issues made continuing with the band impossible, he was replaced in 1968 by David Gilmour. This album - "Dark Side Of The Moon" was their 11th, and Syd was long gone. Their next one - "Wish You Were Here" - is their tribute to their fallen founder, highlighted by the track you did just prior - "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" (Syd). They will once again pay homage to Syd on the final track - "High Hopes" - of their final studio album - "The Division Bell".
By any reasonable measure, Gilmour may well be the best guitar artist in of all rock history. He is capable of carrying more emotion with a single bend than most can do using the entire neck. As you get deeper into their catalog, it will become clearer.
I love how you said "this is a long introduction" right before the words picked up. Pink Floyd music is a master class in attention span.
OMG. Just realized after 50 years after first hearing this song. The long introduction has the feeling & sounds before being born (watery & heartbeat, distant percussive noises). Then it moves through the 3 verses, one for each stage of life, youth, middle age & old age. Don't know about you, but my mind has just blown despite knowing this song 5/6 this of my life🙃
Welcome to the world of Pink Floyd! You have so many brilliant songs, so many masterpiece albums to listen to. As others here in the comments have said (you will hear this a lot, lol) many of their albums are meant to be heard in one sitting. These albums are a part of a whole concept. While you can certainly play the songs one at a time, I highly suggest a playthrough of this particular album, Wish You Were Here, Animals and The Wall in one sitting, as they are meant to be heard-whenever you get the chance. Enjoy your journey listening to the best band that ever was!
54 years old and every time i hear this song it hurts more. Soon i don't think I'll be able to listen to it.
I remember listening to this with headphones and being amazed at the stereo on it . Remember all these groups were playing with it to the fullest they could . They did it so well 😊
Got high with a friend of mine at 14. He says lets go to your house i have something new to listen to. Turned on Dark Side. Mellow listening and then the alarms and bells go off. SURPRISE
Damn that was 48 yrs ago.
A fan ever since
"It couldn't have happened THAt fast, right Dad?"
"Of course not, Son. It was even faster."
David Gilmore is the most beautiful man GOD ever created. His voice soothes my soul and his fingers massaging those strings, soothes an entirely different area.
My favorite Floyd song, and one of my favorite songs to sing
Roger's songwriting on this one: brilliant. "So you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking, racing around, to come up behind you again." The sun is time, time is the sun. You can't catch time but time will catch you.
Live version of the great gig in the sky by Pink Floyd
It's a great pleasure to just watch the reaction and appreciation on your face.
David GIlmour gets more emotion out of a guitar than anyone I've ever heard. The part of the guitar solo at 6:04... love it every time. Nothing else like it.
that was so funny what you said about "having a go at you"...Never heard it quite like that before... and I like your reactions
Pink Floyd & Supertramp are my top top dear to my heart favorite!!🤗😊🤗😊🤗😊🤗😊🤗😊🤗😊🤗😊
From the Pulse Concert, check out the live performances of LEARNING TO FLY and also RUN LIKE HELL.
And Keep Talking
@@ianfortier6796 …and all of Pulse!
Probably the most epic guitar solo in all of rock history.
You don't need drugs to enjoy Pink Floyd.
You need Pink Floyd to enjoy drugs.
Some of the most eternal lyrics *ever*. (and if you don't get goosebumps and/or shed a tear during the guitar solos -- you might wanna check your pulse to see if you're still alive)
Enjoy the journey young man, so glad to see your generation is starting to appreciate the classics. My son has also just discovered Floyd. Nice reaction
This is after the Syd era of Pink Floyd. David Gilmour (guitar) sings lead along with Roger Waters (bass) on this album, though there is ample use of session vocalists.
PINK FLOYD is Awesome mollyboy , Great reaction !!! ✌️🔥🎸💯... David Gilmour is the lead singer !!! ✌️🔥🎸💯...
One of my favorites! You are young, you still have TIME! USE IT WELL
As others may have mentioned, Syd Barrett only appeared and sang and played on their first album, "Piper at the Gates of Dawn." This song has David Gilmour, guitarist, sing the verse, and Rick Wright, the keyboardist singing the chorus. Roger Waters, on bass also sings but not on this. Nick Mason is the drummer. This is a great, great song.
High Hopes from the Pulse concert is a must listen. David Gilmour does most of the singing and his guitar work always does something with your emotions. Peace!
Saucer full of secrets 1967-8ish was Floyd’s last album with Syd Barrett. Regarding Gilmour’s guitar playing… David doesn’t plug his guitar into an amp, he plugs it into our soul.
Yes, no one can make the guitar sing like David.
In my opinion, this is their masterpiece. And the Wall album
See your really getting into PF now, great.
the back round video on the live version is quite something
These are two songs. The second one is " Breathe (reprise) ".
A good idea would be to have the texts to follow, just as important as the music. Nice to see you dive into this rabbit hole... (:
Really enjoyed this reaction. You should have a listen to the title track from ‘Wish You Were Here’.
This is the best music ever created ❤
Syd only sang on the first album with Floyd before his mental breakdown. All of their biggest most iconic albums throughout the seventies features David Gilmour lead guitar and vocals and Roger Waters the bands Lyricist and bassist doing co-lead vocals on many albums especially after DSOTM.
I have to agree with the previous statement... David Gilmour says as much with his guitar as a Lyricist does in pages of written word.
"Shine On You Crazy Diamond" 1-5 next.
Studio first for the full sonic experience. 👍👍
This whole album (Dark Side Of The Moon) is a masterpiece, bought a copy when it first came out, it was at the top of the album charts for year sand years. Good one.
Do something with your life MollyBoy as they say 10 years go so bloody fast thanks for your intelligent reaction absolutely right I never cried so much in my young life when I heard Pinks for the 1st time was 17 I think the vibe is amazing.
EVERYTHING off MEDDLE.!!!
Truly enjoy your videos of music I grew up with
When it comes to getting emotion from a guitar Dave Gilmour, Joe Satriani and Steve Vai are my top three.
En una entrevista David guilmour dijo que, Pink Floyd hizo música para tocar la sensibilidad del ser humano 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
This will take on a whole new depth later in life, I lost my wife 8 years ago and this song just cuts through my emotions like nothing else.
THIS IS Gilmore vocals!!
Way back in the early nineties I was woken up by the start of this song an hour or two after falling asleep (somehow) shortly after necking some LSD and putting a tape on with Wish You Were Here on one side and Dark Side of the Moon on the other, that was a start of a confusing but fun night.
You might want to listen to Easy Stars All Stars reggae cover version, they did the whole Dark Side album and I think I can remember one of the surviving members of Floyd recently being quoted as saying it's the best cover version he'd heard. Keep up with the reactions bro you doing good work.
This was the best tripping music.
Great reaction!! This song is perfection!! That solo by Gilmour is sublime. Time has LONG ranked in my top 5 Floyd tracks.
With all this Floyd - I think it's high time (pun intended) for Welcome To The Machine!! Prepare for a sonic adventure when doing so (and maybe a pre-smoke!!) Cheers.
