    The Walmart where I live is having employees scan the items for you at the self-checkouts.

      Costco does all your big items (sometimes small ones too). So it almost defeats the purpose. But I gotta say, it goes by MUCH faster than the employee checkout lanes. Those are reserved for the old people or ones that are so needy with certain things.

    Target scaling down their self checkouts in my area. I rather not deal with people, so I hate this.

  • @puravida5683
    @puravida5683 Před 3 měsíci +3

    Not to mention, the legal issues they are facing! Accusing and detaining people for stealing, even after they scanned the item, and have a receipt!

  • @Alexvander10
    @Alexvander10 Před 3 měsíci +1

    I wish they would do away with self checkout for sure. My only problem with it is they will still think they can operate with 1-2 cashiers in the entire store with lines backing up.

    Not removing them in my area! They’re amping up security around self check out. More receipt checks at door.

  • @advanceddarkness3
    @advanceddarkness3 Před 3 měsíci

    They dont need to look at your receipt, that little phone thing they're holding already tells them everything you scanned thru the register. Plus, once paid for thats MY PROPERTY and you have zero right to look thru it. When/if they ask for my receipt I just keep walking.

    I see the point of them doing this, easy for thief...Which is sad. I did too once walked away with a 24 case of water in my cart by accident,
    I called cub immediately once I got home the guy at customer service liked my honesty but I still felt so guilty, I returned it and paid for the case the following day. I apologized again the next day.

      Walmart gross profit for the twelve months ending January 31, 2024, was $157.983B, a 7.06% increase year-over-year.😂😂

      @@JacobsNews When Wm started rolling this out 15ish years ago, I took advantage of being a thief. I don’t anymore consider wife/family and career. But I would buy milk and cut out the barcode. Would bring that in with double sided tape and stick it onto whatever I wanted to steal that’s not oversized. Cause that’s what they check like VB said. Needless to say, I got tons of stuff but was never caught. Course, I can’t risk that anymore these days. Can’t imagine myself being handcuffed and asking my wife to bail me out. 😅

    I try to avoid Walmart it feels like im walking into prison everytine i go there not a very friendly place to shop and the lines can have u waiting to checked out for sometimes up to twenty minutes then when your done with that you have to wait in line to get your recipient checked.

    I don’t like thieves. Im really laid back about a lot of stuff but not stealing. I remember I went to my local Walmart and when I went to one of the self checkout and noticed someone had scanned like 140 dollars in stuff but never paid for it, they just scanned the stuff and left. I told one of the employees working there and were shocked at what had happened. There still using self checkout here where I live in New Mexico.

      @Kay13Jay Před 3 měsíci

      @@vanburen20 We have a scale where you put your bag so when an item gets scanned you put it into the bag and it knows the weight. If it doesnt register the item in the bag or the weight goes over the screen pauses and a supervisor has to sign it off. There are ways around this also but it's hard.

    Here is the real problem. LOW WAGES and management who doesn't give a damn.! My local Walmart greeters don't even check my cart as I'm leaving. And yes, I see theft openly happen every time I shop at my location. They see my receipt in hand and I guess that's good enough. If Walmart wants to really fix the problem, they would follow a REAL model like Costco! Pay your employees a decent living wage with real benefits and stock options. And yes, the cheap bastards can afford it!!! Like their products, make your employees feel like they are a GREAT VALUE!!! And have checkpoints where security can be better reinforced. There are so many better ways of addressing this issue without removing the self-checkout lines. Just my two cents... Thanks for the video! You rock!!!

    • @lasskinn474
      @lasskinn474 Před 3 měsíci +1

      i find it funny they would have self checkouts while still employing greeters.
      I would think they're trained to just spend the time on high value items though when checking.
      no stamping of the receipt?

      Agree! I worked at Costco for 20 yrs before retiring with a huge chunk of money in my 401k. Makes me sick to see how much Walmart CEO's make per year while their employees struggle financially. Costco Creed "Take care of our members, take care of our employees and reward our shareholders"

  • @mario4356
    @mario4356 Před 3 měsíci

    4:10 Onwards - Places like walmart that are using self checkout actually saved and made money compared to paying for just workers. It's more than workers. Important thing you overlooked is a company like them has to pay into 401k, salary, benefits, healthcare, workers comp for hundreds of thousands of people for thousands of dollars. It's got nothing to do with hourly wages. VB, Walmarts got over +1,700,000 employees. Cutting that number for tech is extremely smart. K-Mart died because they stopped investing in technology. Think about the worse of 2 evils. Would you rather trust the people with self checkout and the greeters doing their job or those extra employees hired on doing crooked activity, time steal, mass theft. So you have essentially a trust the community and see who steals too much or domestic theft from your own employees from having too many (Let's be honest, Most people who work at Walmart more than likely commit theft.)

    Walmart spokensperson reported yesterday that only a few are doing this specifically for those stores nationwide they will still be using them heavily. EDIT: I lied, charles crawson said this 30 minutes ago. From someone in the industry they are going to remove them from high theft regions until they figure a better way but they are in fact investing more into selfchecks

    It really sucks that everyone loses out on a helpful convenience because you have a few who don’t want to pay for their things. But that leads me to ask why the thieves aren’t captured on the surveillance camera? Or at least stopped by the security sensors?

      @@vanburen20 Yeah, that's very true. Also, sometimes there are no security guards present as you're leaving. Or if there are, they don't pay attention to what you have as long as you have a receipt. It was like that at a Best Buy I went to, even though they don't have the self-checkout kiosks yet. But the one I saw was on his cell phone instead of doing his job.

    Closing self checkouts is a pretty mild response to skyrocketing retail theft. In some areas national chains are closing locations due to how bad shoplifting has become. Employees hands are tied because of fear of lawsuits. Some employees have been fired by trying to stop shoplifters. Police hands are tied as well due to new policies that make it far harder to charge shoplifters.

    You can't steal from a corporation. That's just taking, for it to be stealing it would need to be a person. Calling your friends crap for taking from a literally soulless corporation says more about you than them. (And no, prices don't reflect shoplifting. Prices are as high as the market will bear, never lower.)

    • @thesuperjag
      @thesuperjag Před 3 měsíci

      You can absolutely steal from a corporation, because a company is run by a GROUP of PEOPLE! No need to lie about things!

    • @lasskinn474
      @lasskinn474 Před 3 měsíci +1

      I don't think you understand how stealing works. it is stealing. if you like to steal just say you like to steal but don't pretend that it's not theft or that you have some corporation size limit at what it ceases to be theft. like how do you think it anyway? 3 employees and owners = theft, 30 owners = not theft?
      most criminals have some kind of a tier system of what's "bad", like for many stealing isn't too big but they wouldn't commit robbery.
