Always surprising that these CZcamsrs never mention that recording videos on internal memory and then moving to external overwrites the recording date/time metadata on the files. Almost as impressive as DJI getting this basic part of the firmware absolutely wrong. I returned mine for a GoPro 10 and couldn’t be happier.
just dont drop that gopro! Its probably the action cam that can take the least amount of action.
@@arniebmx What would that have to do with crappy firmware and metadata being lost when using a core feature of the camera? (as if the aluminium finish of the Action 2 could take any action at all.. ffs)

I bought one when I saw it was $359 but used if for a couple weeks and ended up taking it back and getting a Hero 10. It is okay but leaves you wanting a second camera or wishing the front screen was waterproof too.
I really like my Action2 camera. But it has a big problem with overheating. The low light performance is also not that good- but it‘s the same with the gopro 10 and comes with the small sensors.
The more I use my Action 2, the more I am falling in love with it. No glitch of any kind, everything works smoothly and efficiently. The user interface is user friendly, simple. and overall a pleasure to use. The App is superb! It starts instantly. Now as to my GoPro hero 10? Not a bad action camera but it is glitchy, interface is not smooth, it takes for ever to start and to connect with the App. It is simply not as well thought out, not as well engineered and not as user friendly as the DJI.

Internal battery and internal storage, that’s a no go from the start, it would be great to shot stills as you can mount it on magnets everywhere but that’s it really

I am debating between this and the Go 2 and I am leaning towards this just because of the ease of internal transfer to an SD card as opposed to an unnecessarily long app export with limited battery.
Action 3 is coming
I was hoping for a video that talked about some of the cons and if they've improved. As far as I can tell the only reason actual worth considering this now is price. Everything else was just features.
Has firmware improved functionality?
Is it easier to use?
Has the workflow improved?
Or maybe this title is not the best fit for this video.

I have to say that this is an excellent high-speed summary of the features and benefits of this little camera. The Action 3 is said to be due for release in a couple of weeks or so, so people might want to hold onto their wallets to see what that has to offer if a more conventional action camera format appeals to them - and just maybe the Action 2 price will fall even further then?
Just got it week ago.. Still heating issues 😣
DJI Action 2 is a great concept however has a overheating problem, I got this Action camera after its lunch last year 2021 $849 AUD. After firmware updates it still can’t record up to 10 minutes i there bought DJI Pocket as a supplement, please don’t waste your money on DJI Action 2. The DJI Osmo Action was the best of all.
Still use my osmo action to record videos.
It gets super hot and can use as a heater in the winter.
Nice review, at this price it's a good Camera like Insta360.
Can't wait to see what September has in store for us, Gopro Hero 11 and a DJI Osmo action 3 in the format of the first DJI Action according to rumors.

Strong rumors have it that DJI will be releasing Action 3 some weeks into September 2022 hence the reduction in market price. Same with GoPro. GoPro is to introduce Pro 11 in September 2022.
I hope the 3 is actually good with some substance instead of just good looking and “cool”

*The DJI Action 2 is a "sleeper" of a camera indeed ! 👍😃 This camera has a slightly higher bit rate encoder than the Action 1, and OSMO Pocket 1 & 2. Has much higher resolution Time-Lapse movie output (2.7K & 4K UHD) versus 1080p only on the OSMO Pocket 1 & 2. The Action 2 has a slightly sharper lens and larger sensor than the OSMO pocket 1 & 2.*

I absolutely love this camera. I understand that the 3 will be shortly but I really like the form factor of the 2. I don't use the camera for anything crazy, just to document my travels and to hassle my six year old . I will be picking up a few more if the price continues to drop.
the 3 is really a different camera and a mix between the 1 and the 2. The updates for the 3 are really action-cam oriented.
I think the action cam 2 was begged for due to the reality of the videography market, vlogging and so on, and I think this market needs to be further realized by Shenzhen as well as larger companies. While action cams are a huge seller that might sell units to many traditionally non-videography oriented people who just want to capture their sport of whatever variation. But there's a growing segment of people who want to document their travels, sights, reflections; often those making a "fly on the wall" experience for the viewer. Sony has done extremely well selling the ZV-1 and the ZV-1 directly applies to this market segment that I'm talking about. But we're also at the point where vlogging cameras don't all need to follow the model of the DSLR/compact camera world, and that's where DJI has the Action 2 and the Osmo pocket banging on the door.
In terms of Action 2 vs 3 -- Bigger screen so that is nice, longer internal battery so that is nice, more resistant to temps and elements, so that's nice, but pretty much none of those things replace the functionality of the Action 2 for people who aren't hiking fridgid mountains or surfing -- and for those rather uninhibited by the lil ol external battery. And, when it comes down to it -- and regardless of durability -- the Action 2 is the sneakier camera. If you want to wear it, it's smaller. If you are traveling, it's smaller. And if you don't have much mounting room to work smaller is going to be better.
As some one else said -- getting hot and things like that don't seem to be perfect about the Action 2. The Action 3 is going to prove to be a better action camera than the Action 2 in most use-case scenarios. But the Action 3 is probably not as good of a travel/vlogging camera beyond it's bigger screen, so it doesn't make sense for all potential buyers to simply buy the Action 3 because it's newer*; at the given moment, there's a use-case dilemma and the Action 2 may be a better option in some ways.
Also, I don't think I understand dual screens on the new model. While they may not have been able to charge more for the Action 3 without stuff like the dual screens, I think a lot of action-camera people have expressed over the years that there's something nice about just hitting a button and recording because the user is trying to live in the moment, and not think about their experience from a videography standpoint. So I don't understand the decision on screens. Dual screens makes considerably more sense if they were to rehash the Action 2 and make it more of a vehicle for minimalist vlogging. People using action cameras can't look at one screen, why are there two?
I might get one now they're cheaper (and you can pick up barely used ones for really good money). I feel like most of the complaints come from people wanting 4k all the time (or bizarrely people filming going through the airport at 4k 120). I think I'd just stick to 1080p 30. I haven't got the means or desire to work with anything more and I only realised recently that I've been watching most of my YT videos at 720. I didn't really notice. I'd like to think that at 1080 30fps most of this stuff goes away.

Yeah I came to same conclusion even though I have GP10 because of it’s magnetic design and all the positives you mentioned in this video.
I was able to buy 2 dual combos for the price of 1 on Ebay as lots were dumping it because of the overheating negative feedback from key influencers. Gotta thank them!
Before the firmware upgrades to allow the temps to be higher with the DJI cage, I used the Xioami’s fun cooler magnetic fan with a velcro strap and plugged into Ulanzi’s BG-4 power battery grip and tripod and run it without any overheating whatsoever.
DJI added the cage did not improve the overheating. All they did was use the magnetic detection from the macro to know that the cage is on and therefore allow for the temps to be higher than 53degC and with the cage, your hands will not burn or you may let go and drop the A2 and have a lawsuit.
Sony had the standard temp for handheld and high temps for tripod mode. Then GP added it to GP10 and now DJI. GP just turned certain features like GPS, BT, wifi, etc that will cause overheating faster. It’s like turning on airplane mode and so only the processor, LCD screen, and microSD are working hard (writing to card).
But I believe in UK, EU, and maybe Oz, their safety regulations are more strict and don’t allow above 53degC and hence why high temp mode is not allowed.
Anyhow, glad you’re sharing this lower price makes the A2 a good option to have.
I think the best accessory aside the magnetic cooler, power battery grip and tripod, is the headband because the viewing angle moves with your eyes (more natural) while the necklace pendant bounces when you run or the backpack straps only moves when your body moves (unnatural).

I have every model of GoPro from 7 to 10 and dji action 2. For beginners, dji action 2 is way easier to use through their app and on the camera itself, it also has a better touch screen.
FML. i JUST got mine in the mail today. "activate for use " is grayed out. DJI's ONLY solution is to have me send it back for replacement. :(

You didn't mention the unbelievably high grainy video quality in medium low light. Basically any video not taken during full sunshine is grainy

Funny how everyone is complaining at the GP, Insta, and this DJI. They ALL overheat!! and they will ALL shutdown. All action cameras do that. Thats why these cameras are meant to be used outdoors. If you want use it indoors with no airflow, then buy a Sony. If you want a camera that is perfect in every way, get a RED.

Here in Rip-off UK I just bought this (with screen module) for £319. Not sure what that would be in $ just now but it's a fair price, at last. No doubt DJI are looking ahead to its next expensive iteration. In my opinion it's always been an impressive (semi-)action camera, and heat issues were always related to bad shooting choices. While this video runs like a glowing endorsement-cum-advertisement I'd have to agree that at current prices it's a good buy.
Hi, I'm curious what you mean about "heat issues were always related to bad shooting choices" I have tried everything to prevent mine from overheating, but nothing works other than shooting at 1080 which in my opinion, defeats the purpose of this cam.
Yeah, but the dynamic range and overall picturequality are so much worse than on Gp10.
just record in flat and grade to your preference.

The quality of this camera is really bad, it's like buying a go pro 5. It's has a very shaky camera, it's not native 4k, the app never works and the battery doesn't last long.

The rilidiculius size if the onboard memory is a 100 % no go killer criteria for me.slow data transfer speed the 3rd. What you said is not wrong, but it just ignores these facts making it useless. Thus your video is useless.
