Might be the best audio quality in an action camera I've heard.
yeah, I'm pretty sure all the wind noise was unavoidable consider how small it is. No matter where you mount the mics they're gonna have a lot of wind
Idk if it can really be called an action camera considering the durability of true action cameras

Even in the wind the audio sounds surprisingly good!
I guess the faster he rides the bicycle the worse it becomes. It's hard to beat physics. I like the idea they also sell a Mic kit. That wireless mic with wind jammer aka "dead cat" should be very useful outdoors...

I'm already disappointed with it because they provided no option to use a external mic and a external mic with a external power bank.
Both those are important for activities like fishing....
Also while they have a remote control now I bet it can't control two cameras in sync again important for activities like kayak fishing..

I'm really amazed at the amount of technology and new features they were able to build into the Action 2 and then to make the physical thing smaller than any action cam I've seen so far! It's a sure thing now! The new Action 2 will be my gift for myself!

This is insane! Love how easy it to switch to different angles and view. DJI define the new Action camera design to what we wanted. I would like to see how it perform in Low light
Crappy
Look at the video from the trampoline segment, notably in the shadow areas; it's very noisy. This is mostly a function of sensor size; anything w/a sensor under 4/3 or APS-C is going to struggle in low light due to physics...

I love my Osmo Action 1...surely the battery life will be less with this smaller form factor?

the battery life is better if you attach the battery mod, but only the camera mod battery life is definetely smaller.

@@papierkorbknackwurst if you only fly cinewhoops, maybe. If you fly 5inch quads then hero 10 is best, if you find it too heavy look up the battery delete mod

The thing is that I would have to upgrade from 4s to 6s because of the high weight. So would have to buy new motors and batteries.
Now the question is, upgrade to 6s and stay with the hero 10, or take the dji action 2 and stay on 4s
Thanks for the review! The Action 2 is very unique. Love the form factor. It’s a bonus that DJI came up with an extra accessory to protect the camera and also gives extra recording time.

I'm a bit dissapointed, was hoping for a 1'' or close to 1'' sensor..I mean Insta360 has it for quite some time now. However, the modularity and magnets are THE way to go!1 Super quick and easy to operate 😁

the innovation here amazes me, i always thought there isn't any more improvement that can be done, gopro has the best form factor, but this form is super interesting
The non-replaceable lens cover and wierd stabilization makes this a no go for me as a replacement for the Go2 / Hero10 for FPV, but I do appreciate the product.
Same, I've cracked the insta360 go 2 lens guard 3x already. It's been a real life saver having that extra buffer, not to mention it still working unlike the action 2 which died after that fall.

There's nothing unique here, it's mostly Insta360 features.

@@DingDongDrift this is different from the one R. the one R needs all three modules attached before you can use it. this can work with only the camera module, plus this has the magnetic mounting system, the one R doesnt have.
The mic is surprisingly good even without the front facing module.

If I want to do POV kinda thing, should I choose GoPro over Action 2? I saw the long recording (10:50) that it could last 1 hr with screen off
I also want to do POV when I shoot weddings or senior portraits. My issue is that I need landscape lock so when I mount the camera to the top of my Canon R6 and photograph vertical shots, the camera will still look like its landscape. Will this camera do that or do I need the GoPro 8, 9 or 10? Awesome video!
As always, a very detailed review. Just wondering if this does cut the video files every 4GB like the gopro? Can you recommend an alternative to this or the gopro, one that records beyond 30 minutes and just one file only. Thanks!
It's FAT32 restriction, no matter what camera you use if it uses sd card formatted as FAT32, the max file size will be 4GB
@@mstvir believe that this is formatted exFat so 4GB is not a limit. Besides REAL movie directors and cameramen DON'T shoot continuous video. Next time you go to a film, a real film, check out the length of scenes. Try around 10 seconds.

I've been using DJI Osmo Action for 4 months now and most of my videos here in my channel are shot using it. But after seeing this Osmo Action 2, seems like I will be upgrading soon.
It took awhile but, when it finally arrived, it was such a drastically different camera from the previous one that no one is going to accuse DJI of just coming out with minor iterations every year. So are we calling this the DJI Session or the DJI One R?
Here are the MAJOR problems with this new device. Battery only last about an hour and it only has 32gigs with NO memory card slot to add your own.
So you can only go out and shoot with this thing for a half hour before the battery dies or the internal memory is full. Now you have to stop and go offload the video to free up the memory and wait for the battery to charge before you can keep using it.
If you add the external battery, it's now too big for action use and it's no longer water proof.
The original Action let you easily and quickly swap batteries and memory card in about 3 minutes and keep capturing video and it was still waterproof. You can't do that with thing. By the time you add the optional attachments, it's more expensive than a GoPro of the same capability.
This is a poor design, restricting and makes you jump through hoops to use it.

Can you imagine you being out with two of your friends, you're using this and they are using a GoPro 10 Hero and after only a half hour of activity you have to stop and wait an hour to recharge the battery or have to take the time to offload your video footage while your friends can quickly swap batteries and memory cards and keep having fun while you're sitting on the sidelines?
People are willing to jump through those kinds of hoops and hassles for a device that's only a half inch smaller than a GoPro or the original Osmo Action? I think once they buy this device and experience those hassles, they are going to quickly regret buying it.
@@mrspeeddemon727 Or you could just charge your camera, download your footage and tune into their feed while they fly. There’s no real need to all be flying at the same time. But I’m not arguing with you. I own a GPH 10 and have no plans of spending another 500 bucks on another action cam. Call it what you want.

Internal storage, uh? These days it's quite uncommon, it used to be normal with digital cameras, I honestly kind of miss that. Anyway, DJI keeps pushing forward, that's good!

Man I'd never trust those magnets alone to hold an action cam on to my FPV quad.

i WISHHH that the 1 inch module would actually look way better than the gopro with a sensor that's over four times smaller. In every comparison they look kindof samey for me.
I just want the maximum image quality I can carry on a 5 inch, and I think I might even order the one r 1 inch to try, but I'm concerned that I'll be disapointed with a lack of a jump in image quality from gopro despite the hardware being so much better on paper.
More compact and powerful. DJI did that! Really impressed with Action 2 so far!

@@allthecommonsense these companies are mass producing it. it probably cost them max $100 each. similarly phones cost the manufactures about $300 each yet they over price it. action camera price max should be $299 and phones prices max should be $600.

This is a really nice in between from the insta360 go 2 and the GoPro 10. I think the power combo is a great deal especially because the camera is all about a versatile form factor and quick-swap, so it’d be a great tiny all the time camera that you can just dump onto an SD card in the power combo whenever you want! That’s so fast and convenient compared to the 360 go 2!

I worry about durability in comparison to the GoPro. GoPro’s have a long history of insane testing with pro athletes in all types of conditions and if I were to pick just one, it might be the GoPro. This looks/feels like a solid B camera. I definitely want to try it.

Nice comparison between Action 2 and the hero 10! Is there a gimbal for action 2? Because it would be pretty useful for motion lapses and hyperlapses to lock on to the subject.

Honestly my first impression is that this is kinda disappointing. The whole modular thing imo is a hassle and just a way to accumulate more profits for more perceived value. I think the original one is actually better. But this is the first vid five seen of it other than their own promo vid
not really a hassle. you have the ability to use the camera mod only, or with the battery mod together. therefore having a bigger or smaller camera form factor. i wouldnt say one is better than the other because this is a unique versatile camera. just like how it would be wrong to say a gopro is better than this or better than insta360 one R since that is also versatile. so in summary theyre not really competing, the buyer has to see which fits into their usecase. this can be used in a standard action camera way, or as a chest cam, or on fpv drones, or magnetic attachment to any metalic surface = versatility. the gopro or osmo action 1 is a basic action camera to mount in a regular action camera mount.

Like you mentioned, I think this will sell crazy among FPV enthusiasts, because for a long time, there's not been anything close to perfection like the action 2 is for FPV drone use.
The gopro is so heavy using it for cinewhoop flights is almost impossible. But the action 2 fills in that top-tier quality video at lightweight size for FPV use cases gap.
My only concern is why it doesn't do at least 5K30. 5K is such a bonus these days, I feel disappointed they didn't add that.

2 years behind the GoPro HERO10.
Major issues with DJI Action 2:
- overheating
- no SD slot in main camera body, so if you run out of storage you need to tether and dump to a computer
- no 5.3K
- RockSteady not as good as GoPro
- expensive
- only 12MP still photos
The bottom line for us is while the "key opinion leaders" all ran through the specs and are promoting the Action 2 in a separate affiliate program (DJI shut down it's main affiliate program in May) almost NONE of the KOL's are saying anything really positive about the Action 2.
Totally agree especially the lack of SD slot. Video quality + the size are the biggest positives but the lack of memory is the total deal breaker for me...
you literally saw both gopro and action 2 overheat about the sametime.
no sd on the main module but on the batter module, making it almost same size as gopro. therefore making this more versatile.
5.3k is cool to have but not really necessary. dont forget this has a slightly bigger sensor than the gopro so probably better low light.
we havent seen side by side to see if the rocksteady is good as gopro 10.
both gopro 10 and this are $399, and both are overpriced. not expensive but overpriced.
iphone still at 12mp and no one is complaining. what matters is image quality not mp.

Hey, a Three-Footed Monster! I backed the Kickstarter campaign for that last year and have really enjoyed mine. :)
Lot of interesting features in the Action 2, and I love the magnets - can't wait to see what kinds of additional accessories come out for it.
Most the other reviews on this I wasn't too sure if it was a product for me but you showed so much better how this can be used and should be used that you sold me! I do hope the sell the lower mounts additionally later on. I could see buying extra lower mounts so I can have one set on my quick go tripod, one on my car suction, etc that way I can quickly use one camera. Right now I use 3 gopros.
I just saw want to know 2 things.
1. Is it robust when it comes to vibrations and jello. (Old osmo action sucked for jello)
2. Will insta cooperate with reelsteady for ultimate smooth stabilisation?
I don’t really have a use for this but I love what dji is doing with cameras it’s so cool I love my osmo pockets
