I really like the modularity and portability of Action 2. I also uploaded some reviews on it. I think the heating issue is the main reason for switching back to the old design.
does the DJI Osmo Action 3 have overheating issues? I heard the GoPro had those, but its hard for me to pick now if they both have overheating issues. I want to make some skiing edits and I am going to Iceland soon so I have to find something quick that looks good and doesnt overheat or shut down in cold temps.
@nicolai5295 I also went with dji because of this and haven't had any over heating issues, only time I get it is when I occasionally use it as a dash cam and leave it on the window all day then it'll over heat but besides that no issues with it
As much as i like the fact you have reverted back to the original design and love a lot of the new features.
The key flaws are as follows-
1. You need to make the charging door operate differently so that you dont have to remove it to attach external mics
2. Have a mic 3.5mm input there also so we can use any type of mic such as rode directional mics etc
3. A bigger sensor would have been the best feature as low light performance isnt the best
I hope these are included for next years model

My biggest issue with my original osmo action hasn't been changed, which is the focus distance. In a vlog type scenario the background is incredibly crisp, sharp (not over sharp) and beautiful, but the person is a touch softer, not really out of focus, but it's near the limit and it's so noticeable to me. This bums me out because I was hoping it would be better. Fixed focus on action cams make sense for most of it's uses, but it would be so nice to have it an option to change focus, or fixed.
Great Review.Seems like the same camera as the Action 2 just redesigned. I just got the Action 2 about 1 month ago. I don't use it in extreme conditions or for longer period of times. I think I'm going to stick with the Action 2 because I love its unique design
Same. I have had zero overheating issues. I usually shoot 24fps though. Even at 120 though I have taken several minutes of clips with no issue. The size is perfect...won't be upgrading to the new model.
Same here, if Action 2 could get that 10bit color by firmware upgrade would be great.
Same here got the 2 for $287 with screen mod on prime days. I am sticking with the 2 for now.

@@omegamanGXE that is a great deal as long as it is working properly. Enjoy because it is a great little camera when you use it for vlogging. I have been thinking about getting the remote/selfie stick. The problem I don't need another selfie stick I just want the remote. Wish DJI would just sell the remote by itself.
Wow i only just reviewed it the action 2 and absolutely loved the compact size and magnetic stuff. However wasn't impressed on the battery and overheating 😭

Wauw! I am so excited to discover this! I am still using the original Osmo Action for my Motovlog and I wasn't happy about the modular system with OA2. This is exactly what I need! The increased battery time and widescreen with 120 FPS is perfect!

You are correct in a way but the action 2 should have not been the action 2. It is a camera all it's own and great one at that. Hopefully DJI does not abandon the action 2 design and rebrand it as a camera all it's own.

I actually like the footage of Action 2 + the size being smaller as well is much ideal than this new outdated design on the osmo 3.
I’m using the Action 2 on my race bike clipped discretely under my bike computer to film when I’m crit racing. It’s size is perfect for that as it’s all about aerodynamics. I’ve also used it on a gravel race but the problem with anything but a short race is battery life and the internal storage of the Action 2. While this Action 3 looks to have fixed those limitations to some extent the larger form factor isn’t going to suit criterium racing.
I can see having an action 2 and action 3 as a nice combo that would allow for two perspectives during shooting and also the small form factor. I have the action two and that size is nice

Nice comparison review! I was once attracted and then frustrated by the modular Action 2. And the Action 3 without 1 inch sensor doesn't seem convincing enough. Personally I would prefer the latest Insta360 X3 which has more and better new features, and the change of aspect ratios is nothing new in 360 camera as X3.
Your videos are awesome mann, i use to watch your videos before updating my camera, i bought the Dji action 2 ( 8 months back and its still unique❤❤, i prefer to buy 1 more Dji action 2 as it is comfortable for me for my job.

DJI really makes some incredible products
The dynamic range seems slightly better on the 3 than the 2, which is good because it was kinda bad on the 2. Shadows and dark spots still look not-great, but I do honestly prefer the DJI Action 2/3 look (and many other features) over the other action-cam brands. Hopefully going 10-bit opens up the dynamic range. That could get the 3 pretty close to perfect.

When you see the side by side one, the image is identical.

Seems like they reused the Action 2 in another optimized housing - like that. Furthermore it seems accesories are resuable because of same? quick release. I am very satisfies with my Action 2 - but this would be a useful upgrade if it will be necessary in futere.
I LOVE that they follow the magnetic click path - so the DJI Action 2 does not feel as a complete misconception. The Action3 is the next model with "only" a different housing (and updated components) and NOT "a complete Throw away of Action 2 concept"
Agreed
As an "action camera" the action 2 does still feel as a misconception. Especially it's tower-like appearance when using a second module combined with the magnet mounts createt way too much potential for vibration. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice camera but not for action shots.
The updated magnet mounts of the action 3 still are prone to vibrations - if this wasn't the case I'd go for the action 3 over the gopro.
But since I use these cameras for their original purpose: action, I prefer the gopro 11.
@@Marcus_R the action 2 with tower design is great for me as a photographer for example.
The magnetic clic connection is really sturdy also when bumping around at a Moto-Cross track. That was my experience
@@Marcus_R on the other side. How fast can you mount or unmount a gopro? That’s a very slow connection. The DJI mount is super fast
@@Marcus_R having used the Action 2 on my gravel and mountain bikes since it came out I’ve had no issue with the magnetic clip. It’s THE major convenience feature for me that I’m so glad is back on the Action 3. It’s proven secure and solid for me down mountain trails. It was the small single module size that attracted me in the first place as the big fat boy GoPro is too big for criterium cycle racing. Tiny & aerodynamic is what we’re all looking for in that world since GoPro dumped the Session and DJI just executes better than GoPro. But Action 3 probably won’t be for me as it’s too big for my needs even with the magnetic mount.

I've been looking for a deal on the Osmo for half a year now since they had different stopped the $200 sale. I'm glad I held off, I will order one of these 3's right away
I just wish they would add a vivid colour mode. Yes I know you can do it in post, but for a quick social media post it would be great. I know it has great natural colour, but sometimes the GoPro popping colours are nice.

Hey! You forgot one thing in the spec thing (oa3) the horizon balancing *IS* 45° balancing but there's also horizon steady. Which is 360°
I really liked my original Osmo Action, but it had a wonky sensor. When you set it dead level the picture wasn’t level, so i sold it and got an Insta360 one x2.

I guess what I'm curious about is how the Action 3 handles low light. The Action 2 does have some issues with Rocksteady in those situations.
What do you expect of digital image stabilization?
It needs high shutterspeeds and clear frames to align those. So there won't be remarkable improvements.
For those situations you need a gimbal.
@@Marcus_R Is agree with your perspective but in particular this is a weak point of tha Action 2 that other action cams have less of an issue with. Its probably partly due to the sensor size and reduced light sensitivity in the Action 2.
Does the action 2 have that always horizontal view that the Action 3 and Hero 11 have?

Arrgg... I want to stay loyal to the brand, they do deliver quality, but the brand new insta360 X3 seems a better deal overall looking at the ratio of features/price, and fits more of my use cases. I mean unless you're a hardcore pro diver, skater vlogger, etc. If it's only for content creation the X3 delivers more.

Did they add a heat sync to prevent the overheating issues? That's the reason I stopped using the Osmo Action Camera and switched to GoPro...

Have you ( or any commenters) tried the small rig fpv mount kit? I think this could be a good option for the fpv.
Can I do 4k25? & 4k100 for slow mo? I shoot mostly at 25fps, so need to be on a 25 timeline, so 50, 100, 150, 200 etc. 4k25 and 4K100 will be ideal for me. x

Watched two reviews...neither mentions the one big complaint about Action 1...the lag on the front screen....guessing DJI said don't mention it...we haven't fixed it.

I see every comparison except Osmo 1 and Osmo 3. A lot of us never bit on the Osmo 2 and don't do GoPro.

Got this camera today. Is not just like the original. DJI left out the burst photo mode which was great on the first Osmo Action. Huge issue for me. Not a fan of leaving that out.

How’s the overheating? Is it the same as the Action 2?
It seems, Action2 has better results. Action3 looks like GoPro. I guess it is made for extreme sporty shooting with many water, dirt and so on.
I just hate that they don't have (1) a remote control for capturing with multiple cameras, nor do they have a way to externally power the device while allowing external audio capture. Fix those two items and it'll compete with the GoPro better. Also, add 10-bit, D-Log, and a 1" sensor please!

This is a great review! I am now second guessing the Action 2 I just bought! Question since you have experience with the Action 2 - will it automatically switch from the internal memory to the card when you have the dual screen module attached and the internal memory is used up? I went down a white water river and the thing only recorded two 5.20 min clips and one 1.17 min clip in 2.7K 60. All on the internal memory. I turned it on at the start and wanted if to run until the battery died - it missed 3/4 of my trip! I have no idea why it recorded clips in 3 segments - it should have kept rolling! I still had 100% and 58% of battery life.!? Thanks for any insights. It was in a waterproof case - the footage it took looks awesome - it just stopped! What a drag!

Can you speak about how hot is the camera? Is it as hot as the Action 2?
The Action 2 can be really hot, and not so usable if you can't set up high temperature threshold. Except on a bike. On my helmet it worked fine with any settings, but I always wondered at a red light, when it will shut down.

hi anybody knows if the lens r da same size as da original action camera. so I could use my nd filters on action 3. don't have my action 3 until 2 weeks from now.
How sure you are it will have 10-bit? I'm currently considering getting Action 3 over Hero 11. This would just really solidify my choice.
